Esta colección ilustrada dedicada a los fantasmas japoneses es un compendio de las más impactantes representaciones de los yūrei y yōkai. Entre sus páginas habitan espectros inquietantes: el alma atormentada de Oiwa, con el rostro deformado por el veneno; la enigmática Yuki-onna, que roba la vida de sus amantes con un beso helado, y la desdichada Okiku, condenada a vagar sin rumbo tras ser arrojada a un pozo por su amo. 4.5★ Un llibre meravellós (i macabre).
Un preciós repàs pels tipus de fantasmes i esperits de la cultura i la mitologia japonesa, amb les seves corresponents llegendes, el context històric i la importància que tenen i com estan representades en el teatre Noh (能, teatre clàssic i espiritual) i en el Kabuki (歌舞伎, teatre popular). Tant és així, que inclús el teatre forma part d'algunes d'aquestes llegendes, com en el cas de Kohada Koheiji.
El principal valor d'aquest llibre (un artbook) és precisament això, les il·lustracions i l'edició. És meravellós: amb pàgines dobles per evitar que les il·lustracions contaminin el revers de la pàgina, la densitat i gramatge del paper, els cantons tintats de negre, l'enquadernació clàssica amb una cinta negra per tancar-lo... BRUTAL. Pel que fa a les il·lustracions, es tracta de pintures clàssiques, gravats i panells exposats en museus i galeries d'arreu del món, que no només il·lustren el que s'explica al text, sinó que acompanyen i representen perfectament el to de les llegendes que es narren.
Algunes d'aquestes llegendes ja les havia llegit a "Cuentos tradicionales del Japón" de Alianza Editorial. De fet, aquest és l'únic punt negatiu, crec que les llegendes i mites estan explicats molt per sobre, m'agradaria que s'hagués aprofundit més i la part de "ficció" estigués més treballada. Això sí, està ben complementat amb informació tècnica/històrica.
També crec que es pot gaudir molt i el pots trobar tremendament interessant tot i no ser particularment amant de la cultura japonesa, com és el meu cas, tot i que totes les cultures em semblen interessants. En particular m'ha agradat el llibre perquè crec que conèixer les tradicions i tot allò que envolta la mort i el més enllà, explica molt d'una cultura i de la seva gent. Fins i tot, també he entès millor les peculiaritats que té el cinema de terror japonès i d'on es nodreix per ser tan terrorífic, valgui la redundància.

This is an informative and captivating collection of Japanese art, specifically of works depicting different ghosts and yokai.
Each chapter is comprised of a brief description of the folkloric figure and a series of artistic renditions. The artwork is vivid and visceral, capturing the brutality that so often brought these yokai to life. The dark history behind the mythology reveals much about the time period in which the legends began as well as about the human condition and what we imagine the afterlife to be—who is haunted and who is not.
I enjoyed this a LOT.
As an admirer of Japanese culture and storytelling, I found this collection to be interesting because of how it shed light on and provided insight into several motifs and characters from my favorite Japanese media. Several familiar ghosts and creatures appear in this collection, including the yuki-onna and Okiku (inspiration for the “Ring”).
Anyway.
I’d recommend checking out this collection alone just for the artwork. It is such a feast for the eyes~

I like other people's ghosts stories and the extent of my knowledge of woodblock printing is having had to catalogue them for a museum many eons ago so this was a fascinating journey into very creepy art and I mean that in the most complimentary fashion possible.
(Part of the problem of meeting the world through fiction is that you then encounter things again and have to have the moment of "wait, HOW much of this is actual and how much was made up?")

Ein sehr hochwertig gebundenes Buch mit einem hübschen Verschluss und farblich bedruckten Faltseiten.
Eine gute Übersicht über ein paar Geister der japanischen Mythologie mitsamt dazu passenden Illustrationen, welche Farbholzschnitte diverser Künstler sind. Die Zusammenfassungen der Geschichten und auch die Abwandlungen sind informativ und laden auch zum Nachdenken oder gruseln ein.
Wer sich für Japan und Mythologie interessiert, wird hier definitiv seinen Spaß haben. Ich für meinen Teil hätte gerne mehr gelesen 👻

Fantasmi Yokai di Philippe Charlier è un'opera affascinante che esplora il lato più oscuro e inquietante della tradizione giapponese, mettendo in luce la figura degli yūrei, i fantasmi più temibili tra gli yokai che popolano il folklore del Sol Levante. Le leggende yūrei raccontano di spiriti erranti, bloccati nel mondo terreno, che spaventano o impietosiscono i vivi: come Oiwa, la cui bellezza è distrutta dal veleno, o come la spaventosa Yuki-Onna, la donna di neve.

Ein im wahrsten Dinne des Wortes sehr schönes Buch. Die Gestaltung mit dicken Doppelseiten und Bindebändchen macht Lust, es in die Hände zu nehmen; kurze, einsituierende und erläuternde Texte und eine sehr überzeugende Auswahl an Illustrationen ergänzen.
Dazu schnell die Erkenntnis wider Willen, dass die traditionelle japanische Gesellschaft zumindest misogyn dachte. Ausgangspunkt zur Verwandlung in einen Geist oder ein Ungeheuer waren Motive wie Morden aus Eifersucht, Missgunst oder wegen einer neuen Liebschaft, Untotsein wegen Kindestod - und fast immer sind die Frauen die Bösen oder die Opfer oder beides.
Trotzdem tolle Darstellungen.
Dazu schnell die Erkenntnis wider Willen, dass die traditionelle japanische Gesellschaft zumindest misogyn dachte. Fantasmas yōkai me ha gustado muchísimo. Es un libro espectacular tanto por contenido como por su edición que es cuidada, elegante y perfecta para lucir en una buena estantería.
Si te atraen los relatos de terror y la cultura japonesa, este libro es una puerta de entrada excelente al terror nipón.
Además, ayuda a entender el ritmo propio del terror japonés, cómo se construye, cómo ha evolucionado y cómo muchas de estas historias han llegado hasta el terror japonés actual. Los relatos son ingeniosos, inquietantes y muy representativos de una forma de entender el miedo muy distinta a la occidental.
Un libro imprescindible si te interesa el folclore, el terror y Japón.
Si te atraen los relatos de terror y la cultura japonesa, este libro es una puerta de entrada excelente al terror nipón.

Eine schöne Sammlung an vielen japanischen Malereien und ein paar Hintergrundgeschichten von japanischen Geistern.
Der Einband ist sehr hochwertig verarbeitet. Der Inhalt ist dann jeweils auf gefalteten Doppelseiten gedruckt. Auf Hochglanzpapier hätte dies sicherlich besser ausgesehen.
Einen Abzug gibt es, weil einige Bilder auf einer Doppelseite gedruckt wurden und man oft nicht gut sehen kann, was genaue in der Mitte abgebildet ist. Wäre sicherlich schöner gewesen, wenn das Buch in DIN A4 Format gewesen wäre und man die großen Bilder im Querformat auf einer Seite abgebildet hätte.

Davvero un prodotto ben fatto: un libro che racconta le leggende degli yūrei con tutte le loro sfumature, varianti ed origini, il tutto correlato da delle stampe veramente meravigliose; un piccolo gioiellino da avere se si è appassionati di folklore e storie di fantasmi.
Unico dubbio è sul formato scelto: le pagine accoppiate sono una scelta veramente pericolosa, si rischia di rovinare accidentalmente il libro durante la lettura. Per il resto, la copertina telata rigida è veramente bella.

Ein sehr hochwertig gestaltetes Buch, mit bedrucktem Seideneinband, Schleife zum Verschließen, hochwertigen Druck und Seiten, die gefaltet wurden, sodas sie doppelt sind.
Jeder Yurai hat ein bis zwei Seiten Infos und dann ein- und doppelseitige Abbildungen.
