"Laura Jean Libbey was author of sensational dime novel romances for women. In the course of her career, she completed 82 novels, enough one obituary noted, to fill an impressive five feet of shelf space." - http://chnm.gmu.edu/dimenovels/the-au...
Within the first few pages, I began to wonder if I would be able to finish this book. It seemed like a 19th century version of a crappy Norah Roberts novel, but it wasn't. It is a romance, but it is also a suspense, as much so as romance, I think. The twists and turns never stopped and I couldn't stop reading it. Of course, it's quite unrealistic at times, but a good read nonetheless.
Yes, it's an old story (1892), and yes, it can be corny and repetitive at times. But the author has a talent for plot twists and turns and I dare you to read the first few chapters and put it down...
