Lark Hughes is the kind, sweet, and outgoing veterinarian who owns Toute la Famille, a non-profit veterinary clinic on the outskirts of Philadelphia. It's a typical night for Lark, working a late shift at the clinic, when one of the players from the Divine Flyers soccer team arrives with his golden retriever rescue, Pickles.

He clearly takes them both by surprise when he asks her out. He's attractive and kind and makes her insides feel like they're melting. So why does she say no?

Unfortunately for Lark, the answer isn't a simple one. The fact that her father owns The Divine Flyers is a blip on her radar compared to the real issue.

Her crappy boyfriend, Tyler.

Gianni Amato-De Laurentiis is a shy, thoughtful, and compassionate soccer player with several hidden talents. But he's just never felt quite right. He's had a long battle with depression, and when his best friend, Alex Casillas, passes away in a motor vehicle accident, his whole world is turned on its axis.

It was already hard enough for Gianni to make it through life with Alex. How is he supposed to continue without him?

Once Lark makes it out from under the roof of her cheating ex and into the arms of Gianni– who's more than happy to do the things her ex never would– is it possible that she could help him too?

They each share their Lark with her type 1 diabetes and Gianni with his depression. Through unlikely friendships, therapy, tons of paint, just about every musical instrument under the sun, and, of course, Gloria De Laurentiis's "Always Smutty in Philadelphia" book club, can Gianni and Lark find their way to the happy ever after they deserve?

Book 3 Philia Players

Firstly anything that Giuliana writes I will devour, secondly, I will then require several working days to get over the beauty in her stories, as well as to get over the swoonyest men you will ever meet!

This story follows Gianni De Laurentis and his journey with his mental health struggles band how meeting Lark Hughes changes his life, I honestly cannot say much else because it will give it all away, but I will say that it is all absolutely beautifully written, and the attention to detail with Larks diabetes as well as Gianni's struggles.

As someone who has shared very similar struggles herself, reading this and how it was all handled was a lot but also refreshing, there were many moments where I squealed and kicked my feet, firstly I also love Jane the Virgin! It will never get old and will forever be on my rewatch list and now will think of Gi and Lark when I watch it.

I highly recommend that you give this and the earlier books in the series a read, you will not be disappointed, for fans of Soccer Romance, Mental Health Rep, Lots of Doggos, Found Family, Strong Female Friendships, Neighbours to Lovers and of course Spicy Content.

“𝐼 𝒶𝓁𝓌𝒶𝓎𝓈 𝓈𝑒𝑒 𝓈𝑜𝓂𝑒𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝐼 𝓁𝒾𝓀𝑒 𝓌𝒽𝑒𝓃 𝓎𝑜𝓊’𝓇𝑒 𝒾𝓃 𝒶 𝓇𝑜𝑜𝓂 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽 𝓂𝑒”

WOW is the first word that came to mind after reading.

The prologue had me in tears, Gloria had my stomach hurting from laughing, Lark and Gianni had me fanning myself from the heat and chemistry between these two.

This is book 3 in the series while it could be read as a standalone to truly feel the emotion from the prologue you have to read Quiver. The way this story handles grief and depression is as always done beautifully and emotionally. With the sadness we get the laughter with the mom we all want to adopt us Gloria and honestly she is the best and her unfiltered mouth I am sure where Ale and Gianni got their filthy mouths from.

Lark deserves so much better than what she has dealt with but she is such a positive ray of sunshine and as much as I love Tiny and Pickles I will say Rex stole the show when he dealt with her ex. I love the growth of their relationship it is definitely one that they are brought into each others life at the right time to bring each what they need.

This was such a great story I cannot wait to see what is in store for the family grump Luca.

I could not stop reading this book and finished in under 12 hours...would have been all in one sitting, except I did need to get some sleep lol.

The way Giuliana incorporates mental health into her books is one of my favorite parts of reading them. She doesn't shy away from the characters experiencing heavier emotions and how they process and work through them. I also love how she incorporates other health issues as well, making everything so much more realistic and informative for her readers.

That being said, I felt for Gianni from the start...he's been going through it and struggling to get by. But a certain red headed vet seems to spark his interest and once they get to know each other more, they quickly become so cute together! They are so kind and caring towards each other, and it made me smile. Plus, once that tension breaks and they give in...chef's kiss! And there are some really HOT scenes in this book with some kink exploration!

What to expect:
-Soccer player MMC
- Veterinarian FMC
- Owner's daughter
- Forced proximity
- Neighbors to lovers
- Type 1 Diabetes rep
- Grief, therapy, healing, depression & anxiety rep

Thank you so much to Giuliana Victoria for letting me read/review an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

“This woman has somehow managed to invade my brain in a matter of weeks. No, minutes. Everything about her makes me feel like a live wire lying over a car on the road.”

There is no one sweeter, more thoughtful, and dirty than Gianni De Laurentiis. Holyyy cow. 🥵 he IS the perfect man imo. Sure, it takes him a minute to come out of his shell but once he does? I’m literally obsessed.

I loved how much Lark grew throughout the story and found her confidence again after Tyler. The relationship between Gianni and Lark was beautiful and I loved watching it unfold.

As always, I loved seeing all the side characters again from the previous books. The De Laurentiis family is one of my faves! And I loved Lark’s friends. And the doggos 😭 Rex cracked me up (IYKYK) and I loved Pickles and Tiny too.

this book was so cute omg. I loved every second of it. the whole entire plot and storyline was amazing with the interactions and the characters. Lark is amazing and I loved getting to know her more in this book. Gianni is such a sweetheart and the struggles he went through were so sad but I’m so happy that lark helped him and that they both had their happy ending. Also I LOVED the book club and the dogs I really appreciated the mental health rep in this book because I feel like it just makes books better because it feels more real. I would definitely recommend this series and book because they are all just so easy to read and cute! thank you so much to Giuliana Victoria for allowing me to read this arc copy and I am so excited to see what more amazing books you have in store💗

Gianni and Lark - THE IT COUPLE
Omg first time reading from this author and I will have to go back and read her other books.

So many closed door representation representations that you don’t often see and just well rounded story. I love how the author capture these types of relatable situations from her own experiences but also keeping the story for these characters flowing in a professional way, and some how relate to the characters a little bit more by adding some “realness depth” to them

Thank you so much for the eARC!

This was such a cute book!
I really enjoyed it! Our MCs were such cuties and I love how they were able to help one another! It was obvious from the start they were made for one another!

Following the character while they were battle something within themselves was so interesting. It was so heartwarming when the characters embraced the flaws they believed no one would live!

I loved this even more because our FMC has a Great Dane and I have one! This is my first book where a Great Dane was mentioned.

The raw emotions. The growth in self esteem and realizing your worth. Finally living your truth. Ugh the love between ago and Lark is so raw and passionate, it literally made my heart swell. I love that there wasn’t a third act break up and their happily ever after was the cutest. The bonus scene was not expected but well loved! Good for Damien

Giuliana’s books are full of emotions! They always make me feels all the feels as I read these epic stories of real life and how these wonderful couples overcome.

This is Gianni’s story, he meets Lark at the emergency vet when his dogs needs help. He knows right away she is special but she has a a boyfriend. But she somehow she becomes entangled in his life and when her boyfriend becomes her ex they also become neighbors.

The family and found family in these stories is top tier and make these books even better!

Bee: The queen of representation did it again. Giuliana consistently holds place for mental health and chronic illnesses and we love her for that. What Giuliana also has a knack for is making strong FMCs whose illnesses don’t define them and that is something I love even more. Lark was such a compassionate FMC and I was so happy to see an MMC like Gianni taking care of her. But also, her taking care of him. Gianni is such a tortured soul who desperately needed someone for him. The two of them just made sense fully. Also, the cameos from past characters never get old.

Nik: Ok so first Giu completely wrecks you, I mean just devastates you. But then she puts all the little pieces back together in the most beautiful way. Watching Lark help bring Gianni back to life was just amazing. The emotions were so intense and you could see him slowly become himself again. Lark was a badass Veterinarian who needed help putting herself as a priority again. These two together were just fireworks. Loved it! As always, love seeing the rest of the De Laurentiis family cameo and bring the whole story together

This was my first novel by this author and I enjoyed not only this book, but also her writing.

Quake is a hard hitting novel that focuses on self discovery and healing.

This novel resonates with anyone who has ever dealt with loss and what life looks like after loss. The grief journey someone takes( especially if they think they are responsible) is different for everyone, but one thing we have in common and the support system in which we keep tether too until we are ready. Gianni’s journey through this was hard to read, but so authentic that hopefully it helps others.

Lark, the fiercely independent woman who is wanting so hard to make her mark and do so on her own terms was also written beautifully. Her own health journey is written authentically as well.

I loved the love and support that surrounds these two is beautifully. The fact that they are each others calm is something I love between characters who are broken in some way.

Thank you Happily Booked Pr and Giuliana Victoria for the ARC in return for an honest review.

This book includes a Content Warning Page as well as a Spice Index—which I’m grateful for because sometimes I’m in the mood for spice and other times I just want the story without having to read those scenes. A playlist is also included, which I found extremely enjoyable to listen to as I read as it consists of many artists I adore. Since there are some time skips throughout the book, I found it extremely helpful that there are dates included at the start of some chapters so you don’t get confused about the timeline.

I don’t think I’ve ever related to a book as much as I have this one. This has a special place in my heart. The characters are extremely well-written and the story progression is smooth. Reading this story brought on a roller coaster of emotions for me. The conversations over anxiety, depression, and grief hit too close to home, which is exactly why I love this story so much. I truly hope you read the Forward page, which I know most people skip when starting a book, but the emotions written in this book are real and raw and can only come from someone who has experienced these feelings firsthand.

The first two chapters hit hard. I cried while reading what happened in the first chapter—I don’t care if that makes me come off as oversensitive, it’s the truth—and over what Kat said to Gianni. I wish I had someone to tell me what she told him. It’s nice to hear that you're supported without feeling like that support is only given if you’ll put in the effort to “get better.”

My initial impression of Lark was not so good. Her second meeting with Gianni actually pissed me off. She made the assumption he was in a relationship which made NO sense at ALL considering he asked her out. Is it so difficult for people to believe that a man and a woman can be friends!? I’m glad this was cleared up rather early though because I do not do miscommunication tropes. Besides that initial blunder, I actually liked Lark. She is vastly self-aware and truly cares for those she loves.

I have yet to read any of the other Philia Player Series, so this is my first time meeting Gianni, but I loved him from the get-go—maybe it’s because I can relate entirely too much to certain actions of his. His fears and anxieties were explained so effortlessly that there was no confusion about where they stemmed from. I loved how aware he was of his emotions and of the help he needed. Gianni's commitment to getting better was so sweet to read. You can't get better no matter how much support you have unless you want to. I'm so very happy this was how his healing was displayed because a lot of people don't understand this and most romance books I've read with anxiety, depression, and grief representation tend to have all these conditions magically go away when the romantic love interest is involved, and as much as I love a good fairytale, that's not how it works.

The fact that Gianni and Lark decided to learn more about one another before putting a label on their relationship was something I found comforting. Gianni was just leaving that dark headspace that comes with grief and depression, while Lark had just gotten out of an unfulfilling relationship—her ex-boyfriend cheated on her for an exuberant amount of time. They each needed to grow a bit more and happened to do so while in the comfort of one another. I loved the establishment and re-establishment of consent that was laid out during the spicy scenes. It’s always a good idea to check in with your partner.

Giuliana Victoria wrote that this story was a love letter to her husband, and you can feel that throughout each turn of a page. Gianni’s strength is so apparent in his battle with depression that there were times I had to put the book down and take a breather as some scenes and discussions hit a little too close to home. This is the first book I’ve read written by Giuliana Victoria, and I am pleased to write that I will be reading more!

If you are looking to read something that will punch you in the gut with feels, give this book a try. It’s gritty, it’s sweet, and the title drops throughout the book are genius.

A Few of My Favorite Quotes:
My chest is heating, my stomach filling with what might be butterflies, but who knows? It’s the shit you hear people describe in movies, but for all I know, it might just be anxiety.

"[...] You’re not just my muse. You don’t just inspire me to work on myself for you or anyone else. You make me feel whole in a way I’m absolutely certain I’ve never experienced and will never be able to accurately describe. Being with you is my every desire encapsulated into one,” I tell her, my voice cracking as a tear breaks free.

Her fingers tangle in my hair, and she releases a contented sigh. “What will you do when we’re old and gray and my legs stop working?” she muses.
I peer up to meet her gaze, a small smile playing on my lips. “I’ll wheel you around, obviously.”
She rolls her eyes gently. “And what about if you can’t walk either?”
“Well, then I’ll hire somebody to push us both at the same time, side by side, so we never have to part,” I tell her, knowing there’s absolutely nothing that could stop me from fulfilling that promise to her. Not even divine intervention.

Thank you to the author for an E-ARC of Quake! I wish I could give this more than 5 stars!!!

"You never know what you can overcome if you don't stick around to find out."
"You might think you hide it well, but everytime I see you, your eyes lose just a bit more light."
"People who carry greif, love with fierceness that no one else knows."
"Find the one that makes you Quake with need and emotion."

Wow. Wow. My heart is so warm and in shambles at the same time. I am honestly blown away with how this story took me through a wave of emotions as Gianni and Lark conquer, and explore self discoveries in their own ways. I could not put this book down, I was captivated with the story from the very beginning. I really think the author did a stellar job setting the tone of the story with the Foreword, and provided not only a safe space for readers, but to really understand the bigger picture and message surrounding Quake. I love the vulnerability and awareness the author exudes with their stories and providing that extra protection for readers to read and discuss serious topics and themes. Once again, this author did not miss and their writing continues to get better and better.

Lark and Gianni fit so well together and their chemistry fit like puzzle pieces because they truly completed and enhanced the other so well. I like how they both supported one another and was always honest with one another. They both knew what they wanted, and did not let any miscommunication come between them.

I have to say Gianni's pov's were so real, raw, and true to heart. It was heartbreaking to read how his life did not feel whole for him, but the surrounding themes amonst mental health and seeking help was executed perfectly by incorporating the hesitancy in the beginning, not wanting to bother anyone, and just not having the energy to do anything new or different. I like how as the reader we experience first hand thoughts Gianni has and the other impacts of his mental health on his daily life.

The sisterhood that Lark has and the constant support she received with no judgement from her friends was beautiful to see. No matter the day she had or what was going on in her personal life or work life, her friends supported her and entertained her and held her accountable for herself and her feelings. Their groupchat was the comic relief I didn't know I needed.

OH the dogs were absolutely the best additions / characters in the story! Seeing the first had experience of what life could be like for someone living with Type 1 Diabetes and a service dog was very interesting. The highs and lows of keeping track of the sugar levels, and the impacts it can have when the sugar level is too low, how the service dog reacts when their owner might have an episode. I was blown away how the author incorporated these very real lived experiences into the story and the mental / emotional thought processes that come with it. Also Rex the dog is absolutely hilarious!

Lastly, the spice was spicing as always, and it is so nice that Lark goes on her journey specifically about her body, Gianni was patient and created a safe space for her to explore more with him.

✦Series: Philia Players, book 3
✦POV: Dual first-person
✦Pub date: 18 December 2024
✦Spice: Explicit, open door

» Lark is a veterinarian with a heart of gold. She lives with T1D and struggles to manage her disability while maintaining financial independence. It gave me the warm fuzzies that she was so focused on making sure veterinary care is accessible to all folks regardless of their socioeconomic status. Gold star human!

» Gianni is a pro soccer player on the team Lark’s dad owns. He’s grieving the devastating loss of his best friend and navigates his mental health with Lark’s support. He’s surly, except where Lark is concerned. He wants to maintain a distance from her because she’s the team owner’s daughter, but those intentions go up in flames REAL quick.

» They have immediate chemistry that’s so damn hot. AND they are willing to push their own boundaries for each other which is a welcome change! She needs control? No problem, she can have it. She wants to do some masked man primal sh*t? Get ready to “Run.” Three cheers for MCs who are GGG.

» The characters in the Philia Players series have all been delightfully crafted and every time they appear on the page it feels natural and adds depth to the story. I love them all. The way the women of the family (and friend group) embrace Lark is beautiful, and makes me yearn for that kind of girlfriend connection.

» Giuliana Victoria has been wowing me since Quiver and I am a happy consumer of her stories. She knows how to deliver some steamy AF spice, and it gets better and more varied with each book. I love her writing, devour each new release faster than a pamphlet.

✩ Honourable mention: Did I already mention the spice? Yes? Ok, how about the dirty talk, and shared Dom-ing? The smutty book club Gianni’s mom hosts? K, I’ll just leave those there... 😈
It’s like he’s taken a drive down memory lane of every one of my fantasies and somehow managed to bring them to life, bigger and better than even my imagination could render them.

♡ I loved everything about this, and I am so stoked for book 4 in 2025. I could go on for ages to describe all the ways I love this book, or you can do yourself a solid and read it.

I can't express how much I love that there's not only Diabetes representation but mental health (depression). Mental health is one of my babies. I suffer from a few conditions including MDD, so I understand the feeling that Gi was going through. I also understand not wanting to burden your family because you believe others have it worse. Or just don't want to worry them. It was a lesson I had to learn for myself, and going on the journey with Gi in his discovery was beautiful.

I loved the words: There's no reason to suffer in silence. It's true and I wish people knew that more.

My mom also suffers from Diabetes, type 2 but it's still the same struggles. I love love love love that this is represented, and actually discussed. Not just a character that has it. But describes in detail what it entails. I know this book was very significant for Giuliana and her husband. It meant a lot to me too.

Lark and Gi are so adorable I can't. Lark deserved better than Tyler could ever offer her. She's bright and shiny and he existed to dull her shine. Gi waited until she was ready, caring about her emotions. Her feelings the entire time. He never wanted to push her. He was the perfect gentleman the entire time they were together. And man oh man do I want a Lark for myself. I mean come on. The art room. I weep. I don't even do art and I want one.

Alex would have been so proud of Gi for all that he's accomplished on his journey. For reaching out when he needed help. For taking the steps that he needed too. I suffer from MDD too. And I know how soul-crushing it can feel. How living is sometimes the only thing you can accomplish for the day. It's hard to explain to those who don't have it. I feel this book helped express it in a way those who don't have it can understand; and those who do have it feel seen. And that's so important.

I can't express how much I loved this book. How much I love Lark and Gi. And Tiny, Pickels and Rex. This was so wholesome. Plus I was living for the shoutouts to other amazing novels. Absolutely a book that should be on everyone's TBR.

The Afterward made me tear up. I have a semicolon tattoo to remind me that my story is not over. I hope this book warms the hearts of many as it did mine. Thank you Giuliana.

I wanted to like this book. I had high hopes for it because I’ve read something else from the same author and liked that. But I just couldn’t with this book. Maybe it was the story but I couldn’t stand the characters.

Every character was overly dramatic and judgmental for no reason. One example is that one of the characters hasn’t been the best and another one asked if they were okay. The first character said he was fine and they second that fine was an acronym for not okay. Then the first character stormed off to the bathroom. The second character banged on the door for him to open up and then was pouring tears and asking for forgiveness for pushing him too hard.

I wish I could say that I was exaggerating that scene, but I’m not.

But also there was unnecessary long parts. Like there is over a whole page on a character taking a shower. Just a regular shower. With a whole long paragraph about her washing her hair. I didn’t need a paragraph about her lathering up her hair.

The main characters lacked chemistry and I cringed during their interactions. Like I said every character was overly dramatic and judgmental. Like he asked her out and then a week later saw him talking (just talking at a pet class) and she just automatically assumed he was a cheater said they were an asshole and a horrible person and he was what was wrong with the world. When literally anyone else would have seen that and thought he moved on or just making conversation. They were literally making small talk.

Another thing that annoyed me about the characters was that every character had something with them. It was like there was a bingo card for representing disabilities and the author was going for blackout….on two cards. Yes, I’m all for representing people but this was overkill. I think what made it worse but that everyone’s disability was their whole personality. It was like “I’m diabetic, Hi” instead of “Hi, I’m Lark, I’m a vet and love animals and oh yeah I’m diabetic.”

I’ve read other books with representation and even where the two main characters were representing something, but it wasn’t their whole personality. Yeah, they were affected in their day to day life but that wasn’t the whole story or their personalities. But that wasn’t the case in this book.

𝑴𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔: Can I just say I adored the book and will always have a piece of it in my heart?

I sobbed from the start, lol. I gasped and immediately texted our Dear Author for breaking my heart in the beginning itself, lmao. I really, really liked that character, and it left a strong impression on me.

Coming to our story, this was such a cozy and comfy romance with everything entwined. You have sports romance, with a great family and strong female friendships, pets, mental health rep, and diabetes rep; what else can you ask for in a book? This is utter perfection.

I loved how Lark helped Gianni see that asking for help is not necessarily wrong and that catering to our needs is okay. Their relationship progress was a delight to read. I was squealing with joy, snorting with disbelief, and giggling like a proud human while having a front-row seat to their journey, and I devoured it with every inch of my soul.

Some of my favorite moments were when Gianni didn’t make her feel guilty for having Diabetes. Instead, he was mindful of it. I also loved that he can play loads of Instruments, lol. (I would love a Bonus scene.) And, of course, we must remember the book club part, lol.

Thank you, thank you for this incredible book. I loved every piece of this fantastic book.

𝑭𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝒒𝒖𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒔:
‘Never, ever feel embarrassed for something that’s keeping you alive, Lark.’
‘It doesn’t make your struggle any less real, and its no one else’s business’

Lark and Gianni are *chef’s kiss*. They are so beautifully developed, and really serve as a reminder that there is beauty in the breaking. Lark is a strong, feisty woman that cares deeply for those around her, even if sometimes it’s at detriment to herself. Gianni has just experienced a major loss in his life and is drowning in his grief and depression when a fluke incident (or maybe not such a fluke) puts him right in Lark’s path. These two help each other accept all of the parts of themselves, even the darkness. And the spice? Dang, it was good! The side characters in this book were top tier. I would do anything to be a part of It’s Always Smutty in Philadelphia. And the dogs? They all deserve treats for being amazing “little” animals.

"I call you my starry sky because even through all of that darkness swirling around in your head, you still manage to act as a bright star for those around you. As corny as it sounds, it’s like you’re the North Star, leading your loved ones home, even when you yourself have been led astray. I don’t think you even realize the impact you have on the people around you."

This was my second read by Giuliana Victoria, and they keep getting better. Not only were the characters amazing, but Giuliana doesn’t shy aware from broaching serious topics or representing marginalized groups. The depiction of so many different mental health conditions, diabetes, LGBTQIA+ community members is such a great way to include members of those communities in books when they tend to skipped over. I absolutely loved this book, and I think you will too. I suggest you have tissues nearby.

"Please remember that you are worthy of joy, and your story is still being written. Don’t type a period when a semicolon is just above it."

Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ½

I have been reading the Philia Players series since book one and each time I read a new story from Giuliana Victoria she gets better and better with her writing. Quake deals with something that I deal with every day with anxiety and depression and the last few months have been hard not just for me but for a lot of people. Giuliana wrote Gianni with grace and love and showed how they can work through it if someone has the support system and the help they need. Yes, the days are never perfect but that is what life is.

Right when I saw Gianni and Lark together in Quake, I wanted them together. Finding out Lark was in a relationship that wasn’t treating her well broke my heart. But when Gianni comes in, just by chance and how life is, it’s great to see her go from someone who stays in the background to someone who will step into the light to be seen, to be loved and cared for like she should.

The growth between Gianni and Lark in Quake is done so beautifully that I can’t wait to pick up this book again. Quake is able to show that when you find the right person and have the right person in your life you can shine and be treated how everyone should be. With love and kindness and let’s just say Tyler (Lark’s ex) got what he deserved 100%.

Quake is a 4.5-star read that you will not be able to put down. You will have moments where you go from awe to laughing and that is what a great book does. This book also helped me get out of the real world and into a world where I could smile and feel love. But not only is there plenty of sweet moments it’s a book written by Giuliana so the spice is there and hot! This is a spice level of three and boy oh boy there were moments I needed to fan myself.

Quake was just released today and is available wherever you get your books. And good news if you are a Kindle Unlimited member. Quake is included in your membership so there is no excuse for you to not read this book.

I was hooked by Giuliana when I read her Christmas novella Mistletoe Misconduct. I couldn’t wait to read a full length novel by her, if she was able to write such a good story within the novella. I was blown away by the beauty of this story and the writing of the characters. I loved the depth she gave her characters and the complexities they go through as the story develops.

Gianni De Laurentis is fighting an inner battle. His mental health is waning and his job does not allow for any distractions. I loved how Giuliana brought pro athlete mental health to light, as it needs to be done more everywhere. And bringing male mental health struggles into light too. Having an MMC who is vulnerable and realistic with his struggle is refreshing when read about in a book. I love that our author is breaking the stigma that mental health doesn’t affect men.

Lark is just the person who Gianni needs too. She has health concerns that aren’t as easy to hide and helps Gianni through his own struggles. Her journey through this book was amazing to read. I love her and everything she stood for. Her confidence grew exponentially as this book progressed. The romance that blossomed between these two was beautiful to read also. I swooned, laughed, screamed, and cried.

As more and more authors become more vocal about mental health, in both men and women, I hope it serves the purpose. It is wonderful to feel seen and heard without judgment and the stigma that still surrounds people not being perfect. Giuliana wrote a story that flowed perfectly, ebbed and flowed to keep the reader intrigued, and didn’t shy away from the hard stuff. I love her as an author and am excited to read more by her!

As always, review any author notes before reading.

"My social battery is officially drained."
I am sure I am not the only one that can relate to this quote 🤣 Everyone can relate to the characters in this book and dog moms & dads

It all started with a dog called Pickles and that's how he meets Dr Lark Hughes. Gianni & Lark love story is about understanding someone darkest within them and health them with your love. AND a dogs love is is the best medicine and yes I feel in with the this book because of the adorable illustrations on their dogs 💞🐾

Gianni lost his brother and has the pressure of football AND he suffers from anxiety and Kat helps me with that by taking him to group...no spoilers. He has amazing family and I love that Lark knows his mam because she goes to his mams book club 🤣 I just love that fate would find a way to get them togther ot was destiny

" That sounds eerily similar to something Alex said on a daily basis. "Do something today that brings you joy, even if it scares you,” he would say. A lot of the time, it grated at my nerves because I’m not so sure I’ve ever truly felt joy."

Then we meet Lark dogs Tiny (GREAT DANE) and Rex. I related to Lark alot I have a disability and I have dogs that helps me. I have MS and mine warn me when am going to have a attack & help me with my daily routine. She is just feisty and when she knew that her attraction to Gianni is strong she starts to questions about her love life.

Best moment in the book:
" This one simply reads, “Find the one that makes you Quake with need and emotion.” "

Never give up on finding your people, don't settle for twats and dogs are gods gift 🐾Love will find you in the end and new friendships. Get ready for the banter especially the book club run by....no spoiler😅

Despite the sweet cover, this book deals with some pretty heavy topics such as grief, depression, PTSD, as well as on-page death and therapy so please read the author’s trigger warnings before reading the book.

That being said, if you do decide to read it, you will find the sweetest two MCs in the world, fighting demons and health battles but still find it in themselves to be good people and find each other. There is no miscommunication trope or third-act break-up here, just a very spicy couple who are so good for each other.

Lark is a veterinarian with Type 1 diabetes who meets the adorable Gianni, who plays soccer for her dad's team when Gianni brings his equally adorable golden retriever Pickles into her clinic after eating a chicken bone. Gianni is struggling to even get out of bed most mornings, suffering from the traumatic loss of his best friend and teammate Alex. As they keep running into each other, especially when Lark moves into Gianni’s apartment building, they get closer and Gianni starts finding reasons to live again, whereas Lark finds her inner sex goddess and works through her kink list with Gianni, something her ex would never consider.

There is an instant connection between Lark and Gianni, their bond is quickly formed and the trust is there almost instantly. I did struggle a little to understand how Lark could trust him so implicitly so quickly when it came to some of her wilder kinks, I would have expected those to have come much later but it also does highlight how right these two were for each other.

As deep as the story was and dealt with some heavy topics, there were also great comedy moments such as the way Lark’s chihuahua dealt with her cheating ex and Gianni’s adoptive mother’s smut book club.

Gah! I knew I’d be in trouble with Gi and Lark and god damn it, I was right!

Gi is troubled. From his haunting childhood to his recent grief, he has gone through the mill and his mental health is in shreds. His existence is meaningless and his days are dark, until his meet cute (or two, or three) with pretty, veterinarian, Lark who ignights his broken heart.

I can’t stop thinking about these two. Gi was so willing to take any pieces of Lark she was willing to give him. And newly single Lark was treading so carefully around a new friendship with Gi that she didn’t want to jeopardise or risk him closing off when she could see he was slowly opening up to her. They were just everything for each other 🥹 The acts of kindness, unmatched 🫶🏼

There are also some really… memorable, spicy scenes which… yeah, I was not expecting. The previous books in the series were smutty but geeeesh! Giuliana cranked up the heat with these two and I’m not mad about it👌🏼🥵

The mental health rep swerved close to my heart… as do many of the themes in Giuliana’s books, I’m noticing 🫶🏼 She takes her role as an author and shines a light on such an array of cultures, backgrounds, ethnicities, mental and physical health issues. And I absolutely salute her for her efforts 🫡🫶🏼

Thanks so much for the wonderful ARC of Quake, Giuliana 🫶🏼 Book three of the Philia Players series is out now and is free on kindle unlimited.

“I’m beginning to think fate really did bring us together: But not how you seem to think.”

Gianni De Laurentiis, a pro soccer player, is struggling to cope after the tragic loss of his best friend, Alex, who died in a car crash on their way to pick up a guy friend from a party—someone Gianni didn’t even know anything about. Still numb with grief, Gianni finds comfort in his golden retriever mix, Pickles, whom he adopted from Pawsitively Purrfect. When Pickles swallows a chicken bone during a walk, Gianni ends up at the clinic of Lark Hughes, a compassionate veterinarian balancing life with Type 1 diabetes and a mission to keep vet care accessible for everyone. From their very first interaction, the tension between them sizzles. Gianni tries to draw boundaries—Lark is the team owner’s daughter, after all—but that resolve doesn’t last long. What begins as emotional support quickly heats up into something much more intimate, pushing them both out of their comfort zones in the best way, with spice that’s off the charts—complete with dirty talk, shared Dom-ing, and Gianni’s mom hosting a smutty book club!

From the cute dog photos at the start of every chapter to the emotional depth that really hit me, this story tackles heavy themes like grief, guilt, and healing. The biggest revelation had me seriously shookt. With forced proximity, neighbors-to-lovers vibes, and even a smutty book club, the romance is steamy and real. Plus, the way it handles Type 1 diabetes and mental health struggles feels super authentic. Overall, it’s a powerful story about trauma, forgiveness, and finding family in unexpected places—and totally worth reading!

A big thanks to Happily Booked PR and Giuliana Victoria for sending me a digital ARC of this book!

Wow, where do I start with this book? This is going to be a long review! This book had me all in my feels! I love, love that Giuliana has shown so much representation about mental health & type 1 diabetes. So many people live with both of these & they go unnoticed.

She put so much time and thought into this book & it blew me away. This book truly shows, you never know what battles anyone is fighting. No one should have to suffer alone. Everyone is special no matter who you are or what you may be going thru. I may not have type 1 diabetes but I did get diagnosed with type 2. I know type 2 is nowhere near what it’s like to live with type 1. But I have so much more knowledge & info with my diagnosis. Type 1s are the real warriors.

Giuliana did an amazing job writing this book! I devoured this book & I was hooked from the first page. It was hard to put down, had me so engaged! I loved all the characters & she put so much thought and time into Gianni & Lark. I fell in love with this couple & the love & care they have for one another. Your person is out there & there is someone that’s willing to go that extra mile! And everyone should know their worth. Gianni is added to my book boyfriend list 😍 So much to take in & so worth taking the time to read this AMAZING STORY!

Oh & the spice 🌶️ is so on point! Wow 😍

Giuliana, you’ve outdone yourself girlfriend! You’re amazing!

This is an easy 5 💫 read for me!

Review!!

I don’t even know where to start, I had a feeling I was gonna love Gianni’s book the second I learned about him, I have a very big place in my heart for these men who just need some extra love and kindness. I loved getting to see Gianni open up more and find happiness and be comfortable with the idea of therapy, feeling comfortable enough to do that and to tell Lark he thinks he needs it and voicing that he thought he might have depression was a huge step for him. Lark and him really healed things in each other and it was so so great to see! From buying her flowers and keeping one so he knew when to get her new ones to keeping insulin at his apartment just in case was actually the sweetest thing ever!

“Jesus Christ Almighty . Maybe I’m the one with the foot fetish? This delicious fucking man surprises me at every turn, and right now? He’s popping my big toe out of his mouth after licking it like a lollipop.”

“Thirty-six. Thirty-six freckles dust the bridge of her nose and cheeks, with one rampant one taking place in the center of her bottom lip. That one’s my favorite”

“I missed you, ma petite rouge.”
“I missed you too, mon ciel étoilé.”
“My starry sky?” And she speaks French?“

“I call you my starry sky because even through all of that darkness swirling around in your head, you still manage to act as a bright star for those around you.”

“Alex’s voice creeps into my mind. “Just like I’ve always said, you deserve the absolute best, and now you have her.” And the only thing that could make it better would be you, I think to myself, wishing that Alex really were here to see this. But who knows? Maybe he is.”

ARC REVIEW
*I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review*

Big big feelings here 😭💕
How do I bottle up this feeling after reading this book? Like the way I could absolutely relate to Gianni throughout the majority of this book, I've never felt so seen by an author. I know I've said it before but Giuliana Victoria does an amazing job when writing about mental health and illnesses in her books. Showing that it's okay to seek help and that when you do you have nothing to be ashamed of.
Gianni is an amazing soccer player but is suffering from some serious depression after his best friend and teammate passes away. Although he's surrounded by loving and supportive friends and family he understands that everyone has their own problems to deal with.
Lark is heaven-sent for Gianni. The way she just listens and cares for Gianni made my heart melt. She was like his peace in a storm letting him know he can take his time but also showing him that getting help isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Honestly, the way they both cared for each other was just beautiful. From the flowers to learning about her type 1 diabetes to the little French nicknames 🥰 I swooned with every chapter and fell more and more in love with this couple as I read. There were so many layers to this story even with background characters. Be prepared to cry like it's just gonna hit you. Check the CWs before going into this.
Gianni is in the book Husband Hall of Fame!

(Thank you Giuliana Victoria for the opportunity to read this ARC)

📖Quake- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⚽️ “Ever since we met, it’s felt like you’ve been the thread, actively sewing together the shredded fibers of my soul. You’re not just my muse. You don’t just inspire me to work on myself for you or anyone else. You make me feel whole in a way I’m absolutely certain I’ve never experienced and will never be able to accurately describe. Being with you is my every desire encapsulated into one,”⚽️

Every time I read a Giuliana couple, I think this is it, they can’t be outdone and every time she says hold my wine and out does them. I thought Kai and Lea were it for me in the Giuliana universe and here we are not even a month later and they’ve been knocked off their throne by Gianni and Lark.

Gianni is perfection; heart of gold, perfect dog dad, and whew that mouth 🔥Lark is independent, smart, and so supportive & encouraging of Gianni. Still in awe of how Giuliana writes such real characters, with true struggles to work through, all with blush worthy spice. I loved how included the dogs were, they brought so much to the story, looking at you Rex (IYKY 😂😂). My favorite part was getting more of our smut club queen, Gloria. I love her so freaking much and am still waiting on my book club invite!

I received an e-ARC of this book (Thank You, Giuliana Victoria), and here are my honest thoughts!

Giuliana Victoria is one of my favorite indie authors whose books always make me want to dive into the fictional world!
Quake is an epic, engrossing romance that will leave you shaken and stirred long after you’ve read the last word. This isn’t just a love story — it’s a story about healing, self-discovery, and finding your way back to yourself.

Lark and Gianni are passionate but also tender. Their journey together through grieving and self-discovery is nothing short of deeply moving.

What I love about Giuliana's books is the honest depiction of mental health and diverse representation. The author always addresses difficult topics such as grief, depression, and anxiety with sensitivity and honesty.

Overall, Quake is a sweeping and seismic read. It is a story of finding love in unexpected places and learning to embrace your vulnerabilities. I definitely recommend it to readers who enjoy heartwarming romances featuring lots of emotional depth.

Quake is the 3rd book in the Philia Players Series, but can be read as a standalone, releasing on Dec 18th on KU!
