The Chosen #1

Chosen by the Vampire Kings Bundle: Part 1-6

Rate this book
Every hundred years, tradition dictates that all eligible females in Sweetwater assemble for the choosing ceremony. Two vampire kings have separate territories within the surrounding countryside. Both are eager to pick their future brides.

What a waste of her freaking time.

Tanya is among the many women at the choosing ceremony. As far as she’s concerned it’s an outdated, sexist event and if it wasn’t mandatory she so wouldn’t be here. It’s not important that the two males are ridiculously rich and handsome.

Deep down she knows a plain Jane like her will never be picked by one of the kings anyway. Many of the women in the town square are stunningly beautiful and model thin. Most seem enthusiastic about being a queen even if it means being mated to a blood sucker, which suits her just fine.

Imagine her surprise though when King Brant sets his sights firmly on her. Once a vampire king has decided, there’s no going back. But her home is in Sweetwater. Being forced to live amongst the vampire species…big gulp…forced to mate with a vampire…is not what she had in mind for herself. Maybe she can convince him to let her go, to pick again. If not, she’ll have to find a way to escape his - very muscled and rather delicious - clutches.

What's better then a hot and sexy vampire king..... two hot as f##k vampire kings!!!! My God these vamps are so sexually arousing and the whole good boy, bad boy twist was fabulous!!! Brant and Zane are both dominate males and so different and Tanya is a curvy, strong and not afraid to tell these guys what she thinks! I love her!!! I really loved the storyline and the characters were so interesting as well ,even secondary ones were very intriguing !! When you've read as many vampire romances as me it takes a lot to get and hold my attention and Hartnady writes a damn good tale! I haven't read many books with multiple partners because frankly it's not my thing, but when you read erotic done well it seems almost natural ! I can't wait to read more of this series,if the the other books are anything like the first Hot Damn !! The next book in this series is Stolen By The Alpha Wolf 💋💖

This book has so many issues that I feel this review is about to become a rant of all the things that drove me crazy.

The Choosing Ceremony is a sexist and barbaric practice for modern times. All single females must attend the choosing ceremony and whomever the vampires Zane and Brant choose as their mate must comply.

I have a theory that has never failed me yet. If I hate the heroine, I will hate the book. It doesn't matter how wonderful, romantic, perfect and sexually awesome the hero may be. It can never compensate for a stupid heroine. Please join me as I list all the things wrong with Tanya.

Body issues from hell--- She claims to love her big tits, and luscious hips/ass, but is beyond jealous of the female vampires' taut lean bodies with their perky tits and slim thighs. She is very insecure in her own skin. There is a bit of fat shaming as the female vamps insult her size, calling her robust multiple times. Some mean it as a compliment when they tell her she has birthing hips...but we all know what that really means!!!

description

Damn if this heroine isn't wishy-washy--- I really needed her to make up her mind and try to be a tad bit consistent. She's totally offended that the vampire kings want to feed from her and only agrees to it because she is jealous when other females offer to feed them. Zane is attacked by the elves within the first hour of her visit and needs her help to remove the poisoned arrow from his shoulder. He is very weak and needs her assistance in the shower afterward. She refuses to have sex with Zane or allow him to drink from her which will help him heal, but gives him a blow job in the shower before they've ever even kissed. When another female offers to feed the king because he is so weak, she gets jealous again and allows Zane to feed from her. He is not allowed to touch her during the process but she proceeds to finger herself to orgasm as he feeds. Aaannd then she gives him shit for jacking off. I mean why is it ok for you to hike up your skirt and finger yourself as he feeds from you and not expect he may want to get off too???

She has refused to have sex with Zane so he tells her he will have sex with other females while she is off sleeping with the other vampire king, Brant. Of course she gets jealous even though she has declined sex with him....Then has sex with him less than a few hours later.

...Make. Up. Your. Mind. Already!!!

Lack of priorities---There has been a breach in the parameter and the king is summoned to the site with all haste. After begging to go with Zane, know he needs to leave in a hurry, Tanya goes to the bathroom to dress. But then decides its a good time to brush her teeth and put on make up. I mean, WTF Lady???

Using sex to get your way Whenever Tanya isn't happy with a decision the kings make, she threatens to withhold sex to get her way.

The sex in this book was erotic, but the only likable character out of this threesome was Zane. I will read the next book in the series just out of curiosity and in hope that the main couple is more tolerable.

So. Vampires. Smut. I can't seem to fucking help myself right now. I don't know if it's because it's the *wiggles fingers* month of love or some shit. But I cannot stop reading smutty books.

This book irritated me with the way it's set up when you get it on your kindle. It has all the books on what I thought to be book one. THIS MEANS I HAVE TECHNICALLY READ 6 FUCKING SUPER SHORT BOOKS!
description

But I didn't know this till after I tried to look these fucking things up. Like ... like who does that!?! These are not like supposed to be separated by 1.1 or 1.2.
description

LIKE! STOP! THAT!
description

This now means that I have to go back and fucking review each. fucking. chapter. as though they were books. Because hello! You can't get them as individual. fucking. books. SO when you see all of my hot mess of epic proportions, you now know why this little Dark Lord was so fucking pissed.
description

Okay. Rant over. On to the review now.

SO. *ahem* I wasn't to sure about this particular series. I was worried that it was going to go in a direction that I sooooo wasn't really digging. But thank goodness I had kept at it.

I swear to the book-gods, if I was a man while reading this (though would it be weird if a man read this?) I would have blue balls. I think I'll float away on cloud nine now.

5 “ I want a vampire sandwich-“ stars! 💦

Original, fun, sassy and badass!
This series had it all. If you love PNR this is a must-read.
Tanya is chosen as a mate at the “Chosen Ceremony”. She will mate Brant and become Queen of one of the two ruling covens in Sweetwater. Only problem? She is so not having it!
Oh and to complicate things Zane, the other vampire King evokes the “Mate’s Lore”, which means that Tanya now has to curt both.

Having two sexy, strong vampire Kings fighting over her is what every girl in Sweetwater dreams about. Tanya? She just want to return to her sweet little bookstore.
The Kings?
They. Want. Her.
Their problem? They are sworn enemies and WILL NOT share.
Things are about to get bloody. (Yes, pun intended😂)

I have one complain though. The cover. It’s pretty enough but it doesn’t give the characters justice. AT ALL.

Read: 01/07/2018

Listen. This is what it is. Macho vamp smuttysmut.

I don't even know why I wanted to read this. Let's blame it on the pregnancy induced insanity and call it a day. The beginning is tough, lots of males doing stereotypical machismo bullshit. Then... the fun happens and it's delightful. I don't enjoy this kind of smut often, I usually find myself offended and pissed. I dunno, there is more to this than that. I enjoyed it. No shame.

I don't know why I finished this book. I wanted to like it. It had a somewhat good concept. But there was soooo much wrong with this.

First off, the world building was non-existent. Where did the vampires live? They lived on earth and had human technology, but didn't interact with many humans, I guess. They had some human lingo but then didn't know about some things like blowjobs. It would have been better if they lived in a different realm or something.

Secondly, the whole selecting of the women could have been polished up a little bit better. There were plenty of women that would have gladly gone with them that they probably were sexually compatible with, but of course, chooses two women that didn't want to go with them.

Thirdly, Tanya has got to be one of the worst main characters I have ever read. She was so self-conscience even though in the beginning she was fine, but as the story went on, she became more self-conscience, which was really annoying. She was so fucking whiny! She didn't want to be chosen and yet she got all pissy when she saw Brant with another woman. And then she didn't want to be passed between the guys, but she gets all pissy again when another woman tries to get with Zane. Sorry, but you can't have it both ways, honey. And then forbids them from being with other women from the very start even though she was still unsure about being with them. Ugh, and then when they were going to fight each other before the actually mating ceremony and she leaves and refuses to go back with them. Even though they were trying to get back with her and even showing her they could get along, but still she wouldn't believe them. How is it that two men wanted to be with her? It didn't make any sense other than she was sturdy enough to be with them and had birthing hips. She even stomped her feet when she wasn't getting her way. Hated the way she got into the business with the elves and talked Estral into her needing to date. Come on, if this was a true supernatural/fantasy world, then she would never be able to push her agenda and views the way she did and expect everyone to change their ways to her views in life.

The writing wasn't that bad per se. I have read books a lot worse, but the content was bad. The concept could have worked if it had better characters and had better world building.

DNF at way too far into the book.....

Welp this was terrible. I don't think menage is my thing. But also, what the hell was going on with the story. Tanya was just plain dumb as shit and the vampire kings weren't even hot.

Ridiculous

I got to 80% on my kindle and really stopped caring. It was ridiculous and unrealistic reactions between characters. I really couldn't care to finish it. It reminded me of kids playing make believe. Things just happened there is no build up. I really wanted to like the book but couldn't. I am glad I got it on kindle unlimited. It says 18+ but it is like a teen romance.

Charlene:
Your plot....WACK
your vampires....WACK
your representation of women ...W-W-WACKKKK!
I✨️ hated every moment ✨️

I should've DNF waaaay earlier. ( DNF at 50%)

This...this is just smut. No Plot. No conflict, just sex in all the chapters. The vampires suck ( hehe, a pun). Tanya has the most plot heavy plot armor on.

Her best characteristic is that she's wide hipped, large breasted, chubby woman, and so she's destined to have a successful pregnancy.... and the vampires all in in awe with her chubby self and perfect child birthing hips. AND ITS JUSTTHAT FOR THE NEXT FEW CHAPTERS. HUH!?!? BROTHA EWWWWWWW.
(This is a common reminder as the mosquito chested female vamps all envy Tanya and her huge bazongas) GTFO 😭😭

You mean to tell me this is basically a pregnancy story of two childish men fighting over a MarySue who is in love with these charters by the third chapter?!?!

and she goes from "im not like the other girls. im in my jeans and a tee in a room full of dresses and heals. Look at all these sluts throwing themselves on those two arrogant fools. " To " oh. i love you two even though ive known you for 1 day. please, let me have BOTH your babies uwu"

It's like reading a train wreck of a story where al you want to do is die because praying for the story to get better just doesn't cut it.

AND NOW THE WEREWOLF KING ALSO WANTS OUR MARY SUE!?!? And he's with the elves in fighting spirit?!

Should we also have the sandman join in this action? Maybe the grim reaper as well. SMH.

A very easy 1 star rating.

Chosen by the Vampire Kings is the first intriguing book in the enthralling Chosen Series by Charlene Hartnady. I have read a lot of this authors books and was already in love with her writing, but this series sealed the deal and raised the bar she is one of my favourite authors.
I am ADDICTED to this series; I can get enough of this paranormal romantic goodness. With alpha males in all shapes and sizes with Ménage à trois, MFM love triangle (eat your heart out), Vampires, Shifters, and Elves. It is Sexy, it is Sizzling, it is smoking Hot, it is Erotic so much so that it jumps right off the pages and leaves you needing a cold shower.
Everyone wants to be the one selected but only two make the grade but only one sassy, headstrong female makes it. Where fighting to the death is not uncommon. So, what happens when two smoking hot soul-destroying vampires Kings, mortal enemies want the same thing; this is where things get so interesting, and the fun begins. These men are ruthless, they are vicious, power players, they are violent. There is lots of action, danger and war around every corner but given all that they love fast, they love with their whole heart and make you want to go and find your own.
Charlene has woven a captivating, tangled web of lies, deceit, suspense, drama and love that will leave you breathless. The characters are to die for, and each have their own voice in this series. I love that we get their POV because it makes them more real.
It is not all doom and gloom though there are plenty of witty moments and humour that will have you laughing out loud especially Zane and Becky, they crack me up.
Don’t even stop to think just click and read and tell me I am not wrong. Happy reading!

A REALLY TEPID 3 STARS

As a one time, easy read, this was ok.

The 2 alpha male leads in this weren't exactly my ideal book heroes, but they weren't terrible. Tanya was ok-ish as a heroine, at the start I thought she would be fierce and kickass but that doesn't happen. The characters didn't really grasp my attention and keep it.

The author needed to undertake some world-building, I think that would have added a much needed layer to this book.

This was just a series about two vampire kings and their chosen woman together.

It was a little all over the place and kind of cringy at points.

I overall really liked the premise of the book and how it sets up for other books in this companion series.

It was an okay book, but I want to continue with the series to see what happens.

Chosen by the Vampire Kings is the first book in The Chosen Series by Charlene Hartnady. This is my first read from Ms. Hartnady- and with this book I’ve discovered that I’m quite late to a really rockin’ party! I have had quite a few of Ms. Hartnady’s books on my Kindle for a long time now, and am really kicking myself that I didn’t dive into them sooner to discover what a brilliant storyteller she is. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this book/series, so much so that I’ve gone on a one-click spree and purchased many more of her books to explore ASAP. My TBR is out of control (lol)…. But now that Ms. Hartnady has made it onto my radar, she will firmly stay on my ‘Must Read’ list.
This is an incredibly good paranormal romance, with wonderful originality, Vampires, Elves, Shifters, a love triangle, Ménage (MFM), suspense, danger, action, adventure, some angst, and a bit of drama. All added together made this an intriguing, HOT, sexy, erotic, and captivating read.
The characters are all really well developed- with their own individual personalities, quirks, and flaws. The chemistry between them was electrifying! But that’s not all that made this such a great read- because the story is really well woven too, with an intensity I never expected. There was a little humour, and plenty of emotion too- which helped to balance the sexy, dramatic, and suspenseful elements. We get to hear from all three main players, and this made the story even more intense and intriguing.
This isn’t just a sexy love triangle, where two vampires compete for their chosen female- there is so much more going on. This is a war of species, with unusual alliances, hidden agendas, power plays, tenuous truces, ruthlessness, violence, danger, choices, being hunted, hope, reconciliation, unity, heartache, health scares, miracles, and so much more.
If you love paranormal romance, sizzling storylines, love triangles/ménages, wonderful characters, dominant alpha male types, feisty stubborn leading ladies, vampires, action, and suspense- all wrapped up in with wonderful emotional elements, then this is definitely a story you won’t want to miss out on!
Superb!

Thank you, Ms. Hartnady!

2 vampire kings each chose a human mate at the “Choosing Ceremony”, held every 100 years because vampire woman don’t get pregnant often. Let’s start with that. So, they pick 1 woman every 100 years? That only gives them about 5-10 new vampires in each coven every 100 years (depending on how barefoot and pregnant she stays) and to top it off she’s pregers for 12 months! Yeah ok!
Anyway, Brant choses Tanya as a mate and she is supposed to become queen of his coven. Unfortunately, Zane, the other vampire King, evokes the “Mate’s Lore”, when the woman he chose commits suicide. Now Tanya has to date both and make a decision in 9 days.
In the meantime, the supernaturals have declared war on the vampires, knowing if they kill “the new queen”, there won’t be any more new vampire babies in either coven.

This story flew all over the place and didn’t make much sense when it landed. Like why were the shifters, elves, etc. trying to off the vampires? And how the hell could Tanya possibly be jealous over Zane being with other women when she was screwing both of them. The ménage part of the story didn’t even make sense either because these 2 are sworn enemies.

I should have ended it but it was one of those train wrecks you come across but just can’t look away from.

Super hot Vampire ménage

First let me say that this is a paranormal romance novel, and it longer then most stories, which is a plus in my book. Their is a very interesting take on vampires and humans. I really enjoyed the storyline with all the chaos and hot sex thrown in.
Interesting characters, that make me want to read more stories in the series to see what happens next.

DNF @ Book 4

Okay so this is another case of It's not you, dear author. It's me! I love menage books, especially if it's between two males and a female but so many things didn't work for me in this series. For example, the jealousy issue. I think I enjoy menage books more when they're all okay with the situation. This just seems forced. I felt so sorry for Brant.

I was completely addicted to Chosen by the Vampire Kings, the first book in The Chosen Series by Charlene Hartnady. I can't believe I've been missing out on this incredible author for so long! After reading this book, I immediately went on a one-click frenzy and purchased more of her books to devour. Hartnady's storytelling is simply brilliant, with a perfect blend of originality, steamy romance, danger, and suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters were well-developed and their chemistry was off-the-charts hot. But what really sets this book apart is its intense and intriguing plot, filled with unexpected alliances, power struggles, and heart-pounding action. This isn't just your typical love triangle, it's a war between species with high stakes and complex emotions. If you love paranormal romance with strong alpha males, fiery heroines, and an addictive storyline that will leave you craving more, then do yourself a favor and pick up this book - you won't regret it!

Okay so I’m torn on this one. First I liked the heroine. She was an unwilling participant in the “chosen” ceremony and doesn’t immediately fall into bed with the heroes. I mean it does happen but hey she lasted like two days before banging both dudes. I mean tall dark and obsessed....uhm yes please

Also appreciated when the guys invariably cock up she doesn’t immediately cave but instead proclaims her “I am woman hear me roar” speech and clicks her heels back home. I like a heroine with some backbone who isn’t afraid to stand up for herself.

So why the low-ish rating. Honestly it just got a bit much as the story went on. The “conflict” that occurs got a bit ridiculous and repetitive. I mean if this book was turned into a drinking game every time the phrase “dominant nature” or “dominant” was mentioned this bitch would be turnt
That aside I’ll probably continue in the series to hope that the authors vocabulary expands beyond the “D” word.

2.5 ish Despite the story being quite interesting really, the beginning really threw me off. Human females of certain criteria forced to go to the choosing every hundred years? Say what? In this day and age? Especially when there are plenty of females at the choosing who definitely want to be there. Zane chooses a different female and she commits suicide rather than be with him. That is just awful and really did not set the mood for this book. Not only that but it’s kind of brushed under the rug and not treated like the serious thing that it was and I just couldn’t get over it.

Next, Tanya in one instance is stating she’s not going to go and has a prospective future planned out...and in the very next instant is calmly loading up in the car with Brant.... umm then in the very next instant they are rutting ...and then she’s rutting with Zane. It was so unbelievable that any girl could go from No Way not happening to let’s have a 3 some. Nope I have to have at least some believability or for the FMC to have enough backbone to stand by her principles.

Well this was a fun read.
It needed a little bit more editing.
And I had a hard time getting over the fact that the author thinks women with small hips can't have kids. Yeah, it could be a little bit more difficult then if you have wide hips but it's not a problem. Maybe some more research into this would go a long way.
Anyway, I enjoyed the series, it was entertaining and a fast read.
I will give the next books in this universe a try.
