It's been a lot of fun reading these, having picked them up purely for the Lake District references - but finding plenty of thrills along the way. It's a great cosy crime series, especially if you have Kindle Unlimited.
As for this book in particular... he was a nasty little incel, wasn't he?! 😠 Glad he was dealt with and very much enjoyed
Definitely ready to read something different after 15 in a row, but see you again soon DI Sam Cobbs. 👋
Another day, another cracking book written by one of my favourite authors. As per usual, I cleared the decks before diving in as I knew what would happen... As expected, it sucked me in right from the start, held me captive throughout, spitting me out at the end, exhausted but wholly satisfied. Obviously I am going to recommend you start from the beginning and read in order even though I do appreciate you will have 14 books to play catchup with! So, in this book, we start with a girls' night out. five friends actually managing to fit one in in their busy work and family lives. They have a great time, not too alcohol filled as the only mutually convenient night was a school night! But despite this, when Emily gets up to leave, she figures she must have drunk more than usual and decides not to share a cab with the others, instead wanting to get some fresh air. She is no alone, Amy, one of her friends is with her, but together they realise that Emily is not really fit enough to walk and are relieved when a cab pulls up. Amy deposits Emily into the back seat but is shocked when the car drives off without her... She is even more shocked when she realises it has turned round and is now gunning for her... Next day, Sam and her team are called in to investigate when Amy is found unconscious and whisked into hospital, but being unconscious she can tell them nothing. They remain clueless until they get hold of the CCTV and see what happened, shocking being an understatement... And so begins a cat and mouse game as Sam and her team have to play catch up as the perpetrator really starts to up their game... But Sam isn't without her own worries as Rhys is still affected by what happened to him previously and there is a member of her team who has medical issues... I love this series, actually I love all this author's series. I also love them all the more when they "cross pollinate" as they do herein. How blooming exited was I when I saw THAT city pop up, followed by THAT name! Especially as I have been asking for another book in their series for ages now. It's been over three years already, no wonder they are wanting to be heard, pull your finger out lolz! Anyway, as well as catching up, albeit it briefly, with an old friend, this book ticked all the usual boxes for me. Cracking characters, great plot, no waffle or padding, and an ending which wholly satisfied. The veritable quadfecta (which may or may not be an actual word but I'm sure you understand). All in all, a worthy addition to an already impressive series, and indeed back catalogue... Roll on next time...
M.A. Comley’s To Fear Him is an enthralling crime thriller that grabs the reader's attention from the first page and doesn’t let go until the last. This gripping novel is part of the DI Sam Cobb series and showcases Comley’s skill in weaving an intense, suspenseful narrative with well-drawn characters and unexpected twists.
The story follows DI Sam Cobb as she investigates a series of chilling crimes that rock her community. The central antagonist, a calculating and terrifying criminal, is masterfully written to instill both fear and intrigue. Comley excels in creating a tension-filled atmosphere, keeping readers on the edge of their seats as they piece together the clues alongside the determined and resilient Cobb.
Sam Cobb is a refreshing protagonist—flawed yet admirable, driven by her moral compass and an unwavering determination to bring justice. Her interactions with her team and the challenges she faces both professionally and personally add depth to her character, making her relatable and easy to root for.
What sets To Fear Him apart is Comley’s ability to balance a fast-paced plot with emotional depth. The writing is sharp and concise, ensuring that the story never drags, while moments of vulnerability and introspection add a human element to the high-stakes drama. The descriptions of the crime scenes and investigative process are detailed enough to be immersive without overwhelming the reader.
Fans of police procedurals and psychological thrillers will appreciate the intricacy of the plot, the twists that catch you off guard, and the satisfying resolution that leaves just enough unanswered to keep you eager for the next installment.
In conclusion, To Fear Him is a must-read for thriller enthusiasts. It’s a testament to M.A. Comley’s storytelling prowess and her ability to craft a narrative that is as emotionally compelling as it is suspenseful. Highly recommended!
What should have been a nice night out turns out to be anything but for a group of friends, with one of them close to death’s door and another snatched away. As Sam and her team investigate and start to learn more about Emily who has been taken, for me, I thought I knew exactly where this story was going to go but couldn’t have been more wrong!
With more women going missing, Sam, Bob and the rest of the team don’t get a moments reprieve with them working around the clock to find the women and stop anymore from going missing. Along with this they are also hit hard when it comes to one of their own and I felt sorry for them having to deal with so many things at once. There are certainly some emotional parts that had me tear up.
To Fear Him was an extremely fast paced read that had me clinging on towards the end. It definitely wasn’t the conclusion I had expected which made it even more thrilling. I liked that there are a lot of strong women in this story as too often women are portrayed to be weak and helpless but this certainly isn’t the case and it makes for a refreshing change. With events from this book, I will be interested to see what happens next for the team. Guaranteed to set your pulse soaring!
My thanks to the author for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
A night out turns into a nightmare for a group of friends. One which ends in one being taken and another clinging on to life. Sam and her team begin to investigate. They can't make sense out of anything, which doesn't give them much hope in getting to the bottom of it all. As events send them reeling, they can only hope they can solve it before someone dies.
Set in the stunning Lake District, the author always manages to bring the area to life in my imagination while I read. It is a place I have visited, so I can picture the settings so easily with writing of this quality.
Sam is a character who I feel like I know, and I always feel like I'm returning to old friends as I start reading a new instalment in this series. I do enjoy the banter between members of the team, Sam and Bob particularly. It always makes me chuckle, no matter how dark the story is.
A fast-paced read with tension that you can almost cut with a knife! I was on the edge of my seat as I raced through the book! To Fear Him is part of a series that I 100% recommend! Each book is as fresh as the first in the series.
After a night out with the girls, one of them is found clinging to life after a hit-and-run, the other is missing.
Sam, Bob, and all the team have no clues to help them with this case. It doesn’t make sense, and with nothing to go on, how can the team proceed?
With an event hitting all the team, can they manage to solve this case before anyone dies?
This is another gripping story in the DI Sam Cobbs series, set in the stunning Lake District.
The camaraderie between Sam and Bob lightens up the difficult cases that they have to try and solve.
The descriptive writing always helps me to see in my mind where the places involved are.
One of the things I love about this series, is that you can see how much Sam cares for people. She’s always there for them, to the point of letting them call her day or night. There aren’t many people who would do that for everyone they come across.
This is book number 15 in the DI Sam Cobbs series and it’s another belter!
A night out turns into a living nightmare for a group of old friends.
When Emily, a local crime journalist, disappears it is thought the motive could be to do with a storyline she’s working on. Unfortunately for Sam and the team no one seems to know what the story was! It becomes increasingly urgent as more girls go missing and there are no clues as to where they are or who has taken them.
In the midst of the investigation Sam and team get some devastating news but for the sake of those missing need to remain professional. Can they get to the bottom of it before it’s too late?
I think we imagine that police have a set routine when a crime is committed well not Sam Cobbs she's like a cat after a mouse there is just no stopping her and the team. One girls drink is spiked and another is run down. What dose this villain really have in mind. Follow Sam's logic a great read with just the right ingredients. A recommend book
This was one hell a book ride, many twists & turns. Sad moment in this book. One heck of a sick person who was the suspect in this book, and just plain weird too. Glad how it ended & a little funny too. Sad end to the book. Hope the suspect got a very long sentence. Can’t wait for the next instalment.
This is an incredible book, one of those that you’re almost too scared to read as you don’t know what’s going to happen next. Five friends meet up for a drink and so begins a terrifying sequence of events. At the end of the night one of the friends is in ITU and one is missing. Fantastically written in a way that keeps you on tenterhooks throughout. Cannot praise this book enough.
Remember, actions may come back to haunt you one day when you least expect it!
Revenge is a dish best served cold! A long remembered slight, a spiteful act and a hurt that has festered. Finally, many years later, it’s time for revenge.
Another gripping tale in this wonderful series. Highly recommended.
Who is trying to hurt two women, then who is gunning for all of their friends? You just don't know what will happen all while the team is trying to deal with personal issues and that can take it's toll. Good read!
What starts as a great girls night out ends horrendously as 1 is kidnapped & 1 is run over. The trouble is more girls go missing and Sam and her team now have to work out why and who would do this. A great read, fast paced and from the heart. Fab series.
This started out as a great night for all the girls involved until one goes missing & the other ends up in ICU. Can the team pull together to solve this case ? DI Sam Cobbs & her crew give 100% to any case they’re on. This book has you guessing the whole way through. A fabulous read.
Another excellent story in the Sam Cobb series with all the usual characters.A great storyline with plenty of action and lots of twists and turns. Great characters.Looking forward to reading more.
Oh wow what a read Sam and her team go the extra mile and in this story they really did anything by MA comley is guaranteed to be a page turner it's 5 STARS from me
