Ehvy has dreamt of the same man her entire life. Vicious, bloody, decadent visions haunt her nights, but she’s never paid them any mind. Until a chance encounter has her face to face with Will, the literal man of her dreams, and she begins to wonder whether they were dreams at all but memories. As Will drags Ehvy deeper into her darkest desires, he wakes up the monster in her that has been lurking just under the surface. As Ehvy wrestles to separate nightmare from reality, she rejects the notion that she is some lovesick girl taken in by a handsome man. Instead, she’s a woman ready to rip the corrupt heart out of the world and will sink into the pits of Hell with Will to do it.
Rian Adara is a multi-genre author who has a deep love of morally gray (or black) characters, writing with a hint (or a lot) of darkness, and varying levels of spice. She enjoys destroying her readers with her words and riling them up at the same time. And may or may not derive joy from creeping them out, too.
With its shrewd, cutting prose and heavy dose of horror, A THING DIVINE is a sultry, gothic, and dark romance that doesn’t flinch away from being bloody and gruesome to show the true extent of the characters’ all-consuming obsession and depravity. The sensual vampirism doesn’t mean we can’t also get a heavy helping of visceral carnality. Highly recommended for fans of erotic horror who enjoy vampires with both a romantic and monstrous streak.
"A Thing Divine" by Rian Adara is a darkly enchanting tale that will grip readers from the very first page. The story follows Ehvy, a protagonist haunted by vivid, violent dreams of a man named Will. What begins as a mere curiosity about her nighttime visions quickly spirals into a gripping confrontation with reality when she meets Will in person. Adara masterfully blends themes of desire, identity, and the blurred lines between nightmares and memories in this immersive narrative.
Ehvy is an incredibly complex character—fierce and determined, yet vulnerable and introspective. Her internal struggle to discern whether she is simply infatuated or awakening to a deeper, more sinister truth is portrayed with sensitivity and depth. The chemistry between Ehvy and Will is electric, layered with suspense and palpable tension. Adara's characterization allows readers to experience Ehvy's transformation from a lovesick dreamer to a power-driven woman unafraid to embrace her darker impulses.
The prose is both poetic and harrowing, creating a rich atmosphere that draws readers deeper into Ehvy's psyche. Adara’s skill in crafting vivid, dreamlike sequences immerses us in a world where the line between reality and fantasy is tenuous at best. The author's ability to evoke strong emotions and convey the intensity of Ehvy's desires is commendable, leaving readers questioning the nature of their own dreams and aspirations.
As Ehvy follows Will into the depths of her darkest desires, readers are taken on a wild ride that explores themes of corruption, morality, and the fight against societal constraints. The stakes are high, and the journey is anything but predictable. Adara doesn't shy away from the gritty aspects of her narrative, ensuring that the path to self-realization is fraught with challenges and moral dilemmas.
In "A Thing Divine," Rian Adara delivers a compelling story that blurs the lines between love and obsession, dreams and reality. Fans of dark fantasy and psychological thrillers will find themselves captivated by this gripping tale of desire and redemption. Be prepared to lose yourself in the haunting yet beautiful world Adara has crafted, where every dream has the potential to become a terrifying reality.
This was my first ARC and what a way to start! I saw "erotic horror" and just knew it was up my dark alley. As other reviews have mentioned, Rian Adara doesn't shy away from gore, which I loved. I was maybe expecting the spicy scenes to be more BDSM in style, but that's probably just me and my spicy brain wanting more!
I enjoyed the writing style - you can picture what is happening without there being too much descriptive fluff, and the quotes at the start of each chapter are a really nice touch, helping to set the all consuming, obsessive scene. My main take away from the book is that in "A Thing Divine" Adara has given us a FMC who is actually genuinely likeable and realistic - something I often struggle to find in dark romance stories. I particularly enjoyed her "alone time" scenes and the fact that she isn't some early twenties slip of a girl that I can't relate to.
Granted we don't get to know Ehvy or Will that deeply, but what we do get is a feeling of wanting more of both of them. I would love to see a sequel - that final scene left me feeling as though the author has only just scratched the surface with this dark and powerful pairing. My only complaint is I would've liked it to be longer - but I mean that as a compliment.
If you're not squeamish and you love to read about dark, sexual and undeniable romantic connections between twisted souls, you will definitely enjoy this!
First off, I want to thank the author for providing me with an ARC copy of this book. I will be eternally grateful.
⭐️9/10⭐️ 🌶️4/5🌶️
I LOVED THIS.
There is tension throughout the book that you can only find in horror stories. All the unanswered questions, wondering what's real in the story and what's not. I don't think there's many erotica horror books that would actually have a scary element, but this was just exquisite. I only have one wish: I WISH IT WAS LONGER. And not like it felt incomplete, no definitely not, I would just love to see more of the characters, because they were perfection. All of their thought process, internal monologues and everything was done just right. Will is utterly devoted to Ehvy as soon as he meets her, and it is done just right. No third act breakups, no unnecessary drama, just purely a story that is so fulfilling and leaves you satisfied with the outcome.
Rian Adara is infinitely having a place on my TBR, as soon as she publishes more of her writing ♥
A Thing Divine was my introduction into the Erotic Horror genre, and was truly a hard book to put down. From page one, the hauntingly beautiful descriptive manner of the books characters, surroundings and the house in which the story takes place makes you feel as though you are seeing everything with your own eyes. The main character Ehvy is a smart, likeable, and relatable character, and you can really feel the chemistry between her and the MMC Will.
The writing style, from the beginning reminded me of the writing styles if authors such as Christopher Pike and Anne Rice. If you like your books spicy, and don't mind the triggers, this is the book for you, as Rian Adara threw out spice everywhere she could, and boy was this book STEAMY. I would have loved this book to be longer, I wasn't ready for it to end.
My thanks to Rian for giving me the opportunity to be an ARC reader, and fingers crossed for a sequel.
This novella is erotic horror. Ehvy is our main character, she is a medical examiner, a bit quirky, she has been having odd dreams. She goes on a tour at an old manor and realizes the deceased lady of manor who she sees herself as in the dreams. She meets the current owner of the manor, and he has been in her dreams too, sexually. Little does she know, he is a Vampire. The story unfolds from here. It’s spicy, bloody, sexy and a sucking good time. Great read, and I would recommend to anyone who likes it spicy and can handle some blood. Don’t be intimidated by the trigger warnings.
most people enjoy vampires and romance, but if you enjoy vampires, romance, and a heavy dose of erotic horror then this might be the book for you. I feel like the need to point out that this is not really a romance book it is an erotic horror so check your tw's and be mindful of your own peace.
our vampire is deliciously unabashedly dark with his lust for blood I mean man is not afraid to make his bloody fantasies come to life .
that being said it's a bit of a slow burn, with lots of blood & spice mixed together. With a gothic feel to it, including a creepy Mansion filled with past memories and flashbacks that our fmc finds herself pulled into and isn't sure why or how but she's drawn to will and the Mansion.
Thank you so much to the author for sending me across an ARC of this book, it was everything that I was hoping for and more! ♥
I am a massive fan of vampires and particularly love stories where vampirism is played with. In this book, our vampire is Will and he is deliciously dark and depraved! Whilst the blood-drinking is played as sexy in this story and we do get a good dose of blood play, we also get to experience blood-drinking in a more body horror sense. Adara does an incredible job and toying with where the line between dark romance and erotic horror is.
This is not going to a book that is for everyone's tastes but I am confident that a lot of people are going to have an absolutely amazing time reading this book and BEGGING for more from Ehvy and Will in the future.
You know the iterations of the Dracula tale that have Mina as Dracula's reincarnated lover? Ever wish Mina had been all "hellyeah" and eagerly embraced the darkness and blood? Then you'll love this book.
Plus the story has all the gothic goodness: An ancient manor full of secrets and a mysterious lord, a heroine drawn to the forbidden, and intoxicating prose. A Thing Divine doesn't shy away from the steam or the gore. In fact, it combines the two, and managed to be hotter than expected.
Fans of dark romance and horror will be very happy with this bloody and sensual story.
My goodness, this book did not hold back. When you check the trigger index and see the words "destructive fisting", you know you're in for a ride.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. A Thing Divine is a tantalisingly written erotic horror that does not shy away from the gore. Intense descriptions throughout, both of the viscera and the spice.
The story itself was also compelling; it kept me reading, desperate to know more of Ehvy and Will.
Deliciously gothic, it gave me Rebecca vibes at certain points of the story (which is apt given the name of one of the characters..)
I definitely recommend if spicy horror is your thing!
Well. There’s dark and then there’s DARK and this is a pitch black Romantasy horror. I’ve never ready anything quite like it. It’s fast paced and unapologetically brutal avoiding most of the expected lusty vamp fiction cliches. The leads are equally hot and stone cold, the story equally uncomfortable and un-put-downable. I don’t want to get into too much for warning so if you’re made of strong stuff and ready for a step away from the usual spicy noir this may well be for you. Check the trigger warnings as always.
This was such a perfect blend of spooky and spicy. It was so up my street! 🖤🖤
The story follows Ehvy ( a medical examiner) she visits an old manor house in England when something draws her into an off-limits area. She finds the literal man of her dreams.
This dark gothic horror romance had everything, Vanpires, Ghosts, Gothic Atmosphere, Blood and Gore, Spice and Tension, all wrapped up in less than 200 pages!
If you like a bit of blood and guts with your erotica, definitely check this one out!
Move over Baby and Ginger, there’s a new Spice Girl in town and her name is Rian Adara!
Dark romance isn’t my usual genre but when I read the synopsis and it sounded more gothic and horror to me, I wanted to give it a go. I’m glad I did!
It’s hard to believe this was the author’s first novel as the writing is so beautiful. Yes, even the sexy scenes. I don’t want to give too much away but the whole back story was exciting and I couldn’t wait to see where this story went.
This book exceeded all expectations! Rian has a great writing style. The story was intriguing and suspenseful, having me hooked from the start. I loved Will and Ehvy. The horror and gore were good, and the spicy scenes were great. This book may have you questioning your sanity and "interests" a little bit by the end, but it's so worth it. 🥵
** NOTE: Please read ALL TWs before reading this book! It contains graphic content that WILL be disturbing to some readers. ESPECIALLY CHAPTER 4 🫣 **
This book was phenomenal. I am a huge vampire lover! This book reminded me exactly why that is! It was such an intensely thrilling book. I finished it in less than 24 hours. Absolutely phenomenal work, both the male and female POV were breathtaking. It’s like I WAS THERE myself. The spicy romance was top tier. This book is now one of my all time favorites, and I highly recommend this book if you like spicy romance, and vampires!!
I absolutely love completely depraved and down and dirty vampires. None of these sweet and redeeming characters for me. Give me the blood dripping, the kinky, the gore, and all that goes with it. That’s exactly what we get with this story. Erotic horror that had me captivated from the first page, reminding me why I love the genre so much.
Holly crap, this book was hot times ten. All I had to do was read the first chapter, and I was immediately hooked. Rian Adara's attention to descriptive detail is phenomenal, and when it comes to the spice, she does not hold back if you know what I mean. I've read vampire books before, none as descriptive as A Thing Divine.
⚠️This is not a dark romance this is erotic horror ⚠️ This was twisted and wild and I literally couldn’t put it down as soon as I started. I would definitely read more about Will and Ehvy.
This book is not for the weak! Will and Ehvy will have you panting. A Thing Divine is wickedly delicious. While I loved the story and the spice this is only a 4 ⭐️ read for me. 10/10 will recommend, but it doesn't make my re-read list
Im extremely new to the gore side of this genre so it definitely was a lot at first. i like the characters but wish there was a little more of rebecca and ehvy spice though 😅🥵🤣 a good quick read and im looking forward to reading more from Rian.
I really enjoyed this. The explicit scenes were great but I just loved the gothic romance feel of this book. That old house, the vampire…ahhhh. Love it.
I wanted a bit more at the end but as long as you check your trigger warnings, VERY CAREFULLY, this book will lead you places you will question if you like and you may find you love where you end up.
An interesting take on a human reincarnation and her vampire lover after the death of the original vampire lover. Both sides of this intense relationship are haunted by the presence of the dead lover as they are brought together in an erotic reunion that edges into the horror genre along the way. A bit on the short side but very enjoyable if this is of interest to you.
Squeeee I'm so damn thankful to have had the chance to ARC read this. This was everything I could want from a dark horror romance with vampiresssss 😍😍🥵🥵🥵🥵 Look, almost 2 months after reading this book the first time and I'm still so happy I got to ARC read this. The vampires were so damn perfect, and 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭. I loved every single little bit of Rebecca, Will, and Ehvy. I need 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 of them... but I suppose I'll settle for getting the physical book as soon as it releases 😍😍
I just could not get through this book without pushing myself to finish. I tried so hard to get into it, and I just couldn't. There's almost no character development. They meet on a house tour, and FMC is drawn to a smell where she meets MMC. Everything feels like it happens in the span of like 3 days.
I wanted more. More suspense. More character development. I wanted to feel the longing, the connection, the passion. It all felt incomplete for me.
