9/23/24 😅 TBH I was kinda like "😱 holy cow self how the hell did you read this book in a day?!" And yet - I did. O_o. ANYWAY. Heh I dunno how/why but for the LONGEST TIME I thought it was that xianxia where ML is in the mortal realm "hiding" and he picks a dancer who is actually an assassin to help him ascend/take back his rightful place. And I kept like ... waiting for that - then had to read the MDL blurb and was like "🫠 guess not?" Cuz lowkey [highkey] like... FL is the one who is going to "reclaim" her spot. Or maybe it IS that story but the original blurb/description posted was totally wrong? Cuz FL is NOT an assassin.

Oof. I ... want to say ML was so supportive but TBH he wasn't at all. At least not initially. I think he definitely caught feelings way before he realized/would admit but ... definitely didn't realize till it was too late. So I appreciated all the "wife chasing" and how FL was like "fuck this man." Only *sigh* she wasn't. Cuz she never gave any other man a chance. *sigh* Because OF COURSE she didn't. 😒
Don't know if this is cuz it's a censorship/backlash/cnetz thing. [Gotta be with the first guy you have sex with no matter what - or be with the first guy who penetrates you cuz damn there are WAY TOO MANY FLs with their rapists. Not rape here, but just... general commentary.]

I mean ML here DID win me over - he had to W O R K for it though. And even when they were finally together FL turned down his proposals for like at least a decade. LOL.
Did feel the ending/extras petered out [and as mentioned - inconsistent/ridiculous/stupid with that secret guard who "couldn't find" ML and FL like - if they're SO FUCKING GORGEOUS which the author harps on forever ... duh they'd stand out?] Ugh - very annoyed by that.

Super chill FL - very much liked the book overall iirc and could see myself re-reading it.

I felt like the story had a slow start but once you get into the story it's good. The push and pull dynamic between Ming Yi and Bozai was fun.

Though I did feel like some side characters weren't utilized well, some character's (Bozai) motivations weren't clear, and the pacing felt a little weird in some places. Toward the end after Bozai became emperor it felt like the story was meandering. The conflict/miscommunication between Ming Yi and Bozai? Okay fine I understand this is a part of the romance genre. But what was the point of drawing the story out for so long? Did it add much? Not really. It was just a bonus for people that like the wife chasing crematorium trope.

The first half of this book was really enticing, the MCs had a push and pull relationship, they were using each other to achieve their goals. He uses her to do his dirty work. He falls in love with her eventually, but I don’t know when she falls in love with him because she doesn’t think he’s serious about her. He’s very insatiable, when he meets her, he doesn’t want anyone else. For her I don’t get the impression of her really into him, she just wants to get the cure from him, but she maybe had some sort of feelings for him, because she is butt hurt he married someone else to get the army.

The second half of the book went downhill. I did kinda glazed over the tournament scenes. That part was just too long. There was no intimacy after the second part, just the female having a harem after she finds out the ML married someone else.
For me the intimacy was the best part of the book, and some funny parts. After that was gone I kinda lost interest.

Pretty great. For a Chinese novel, it’s very modern. The tv drama producers adapted well from this novel, and if you go in expecting a deeper exploration of the same tv story, you’ll be disappointed.

While there were some parts I’d tighten up, overall this was a great romance/fantasy/xianxia novel. Has all the elements of:

- one true love
- breaking down predefined gender roles (still prevalent in some places of the world)
- romantic angst

The tv producers took elements of the novel and condensed characters (as they should), tightened up plot devices and skipped some chapters. I think I’d have preferred more of the ZZH angst in the story but I guess Situ Ling played that part.

Now I just wish there was a novel that took it all the way, the same way regency/highland romance novels do!

Originally I just wanted to sneak a peek at some spoilers because I really couldn’t wait for the new episodes of the drama.. who would have thought that I wouldn’t be able to put it down?

To be honest, I only red the second half of the story but even so, I found it entertaining, unpredictable and fun. Surely one day I’ll catch up on the whole work. :)

Sau 1 năm chờ đợi thì phim cũng được Youku phát hành. Dàn diễn viên xinh đẹp và hợp vai không chê chỗ nào, khá viral cả Trung và Việt. Nhưng đã đọc truyện rồi thì sẽ khá thất vọng vì tình tiết phim gần như là thoát ly truyện.

Mình nhớ là mình đã rất tưởng thưởng tư tưởng của truyện vềbình quyền và giải phóng phụ nữ của truyện, cũng như sự thú vị khi chuyển giữa các map thi đấu (từ thành này qua thành khác). Nhưng phim bỏ qua tất cả những điều đó (vì kinh phí đồ họa chăng?), sức mạnh của nữ chính cũng bị giảm đi rất nhiều so với truyện.

Thế nên mình phải đọc lại truyện để bù đắp sự thất vọng đó =))

Truyện được dịch sang tiếng Việt là Nhập Thanh Vân (đang được chuyển thể thành phim).
Đời thực càng căng thẳng thì mình càng có xu hướng đọc những truyện giải trí hài hài :)

Khởi đầu truyện khá hứa hẹn, nhưng phát triển khá bình thường. Không phải là cốt truyện không hay, nhưng mình cảm thấy tác giả chưa đủ chắc tay để tăng chiều sâu nhân vật cũng như tăng tính thú vị của hội thoại.

Mong rằng phim chuyển thể sẽ được đầu tư sâu hơn những mâu thuẫn nội tâm, và phát triển tốt hơn tư tưởng bình quyền, bảo vệ nữ giới. Nhưng mình e là với sự kiểm duyệt của đài Trung, các tình tiết nói về bạo hành và mua bán trẻ em gái chắc không được đưa vào.

I read this because its my most anticipated upcoming cdrama as some of my fav actors coming in as the main cast so I wanted to get an idea of the storyline as it's based off this novel (I can already tell some things will be very different and that's okay)

I rated it 3 star as in the beginning I did not care so much for the ml but he eventually grew on me, the storyline got much better a bit later and kept me wanting to read more. Unfortunately about the half way point things went a bit more downhill, losing my interest and just getting frustrated they couldn't communicate properly (I personally despise miscommunication tropes)

I was a bit disappointed that some things the author mentions that could've led to a really interesting or even cool storyline got completely brushed away and never really mentioned again (small example: the mls power and again near the end when it talks about his change)

All in all, I believe it was a good story and am excited to see how and what the drama decides to keep the same and change from this novel!

It had everything—angst, sweet moments, and great character growth. The world-building was so well done, and I was completely hooked. My only complaint is that the ending felt rushed; I wanted more time with the main leads, but the epilogues focused mostly on their kids instead. Still, it was an awesome read overall.
