Jen Meyers grew up in Vermont, spent three years in Germany when she was a kid, and now lives in central New York. When she’s not reading or writing, she’s chasing after her four kids, playing outside, relishing the few quiet moments she gets with her husband, and forgetting to make dinner.
She is the author of the highly-rated Intangible series, a young adult contemporary fantasy, and numerous contemporary romance novels.
Now let me make this perfectly clear for everyone-- I love Jonas. I love, love, love Jonas more than you could possibly imagine. He is by far the object of my obsessions and I swear to God I wish I was Sera.. *daydreams for a moment*
Ahem... SO, anyway, when I found out J. Meyers was writing a short just about Jonas, I--proudly--stalked the woman like a lunatic for any information she was willing (or accidentally) dropping. I've been dying for months, over here.
Indomitable is a prequel novella to Meyers' first book, Intangible (which I lurve). The story focuses on Jonas' life before he was a vampire in "flashbacks", along with shots of him currently, and God, let me tell you... I don't really cry easily. And while I was reading this novella, I didn't cry. I did contemplate throwing the Kindle across the room and hoping it shatter, and I did consider building a time machine just so I could...well, I can't tell you.. Spoilers. Doesn't that just bite for you curious folks out there?
When I finished, however, I sat in the back office and just bawled. And even though this short ripped me apart (and then stabbed me and tore out my heart and shoved it in a blender before running me over with an eighteen-wheeler...), I have to say it's only made me love Jonas and the Intangible series all the more. Cannot WAIT for more!
So when I got the opportunity to request this novella for review from J. Meyers I simply couldn't resist and jumped at the chance. Boy I'm super glad I did too. This novella accompanies her book Intangible which is the first in the series, which I enjoyed to pieces and my favourite character was Jonas. This story of course follows Jonas before our first meeting with him in Intangible as well as enlightening us on his life on the night he became a vampire, the death he had to deal with and what it was like becoming a vampire and visiting The Realm for the first time. It was all pretty wonderful and honetly I just want more chapters/stories from Jonas' point of view 'cause he's so completely bad ass and still retains some form of humanity too! Fifty pages wasn't enough to quench my thirst so I'm just going to sit and wait somewhat patiently for the sequel of Intangible ;) Thanks again Jen!
I received a copy of Indomitable courtesy of the author in exchange for a review.
I was pretty happy to get Indomitable from J. Meyers, since I really enjoyed Intangible and Intuition! Indomitable tells us the story of Jonas, and how he came to be. It starts in present day, then goes back 200 years. Nothing I love more than insight into mysterious characters. It makes me feel like I'm being let in on a secret! I can't wait for the next book to be out!
This was exactly what I wanted after reading Intuition and Intangible. More Jonas. Elusive, intriguing, and unpredictable Jonas. Thank you, J. Meyers. Thank you. Not only from his POV, but also his past AND present? What a treat. Just enough to give those that haven't read them a "taste" of the mysterious Jonas, and those of us that have, a greater appreciation of this fantastic specimen. Now where's that sequel?
This is great start to the Intangible Series. You get your first peak at Jonas here and see how he functions in the present time. You also get get quite the look at him when he was human. I'm honestly surprised Jonas feels as he does toward humans after all he'd been through in his life. A lesser being would have been lost forever, yet Jonas somehow found his way back. The Realm is described in such vivid detail you can almost smell the air there if you try hard enough. Lilith, while we all know she's the mother of all vampires. I have to ask what happened to the first she sired. The rumors buzz about Jonas being Lilith's chyld like it's a shock, yet how are all the others that follow her there if they weren't sired by her. Surely there must have been one or more Jonas that was sired by Lilith to make the rest. As early as 50 years prior to Jonas since Adrian had only been turned 50 year before they meet. Regardless of whether or not you're a fan of the series, or like me, just discovering it? You'll fall in love from the first sentence. I give this book 5 of 5 paws
This was a GREAT novella - told from the perspective of Jonas. By the second chapter I was so full of righteous anger, I could have killed one of the characters myself!
As these short stories become more prevalent in the YA genre, I'm starting to develop a definition of what makes a "good" x.5:
1. I want it to add detail to the story I know: Indomitable definitely showed me an aspect of the Intangible world that I hadn't previously seen. To be able to see the world from Jonas' eyes - especially how it felt to have his powers - was very interesting.
2. I want it to shed light on the motives of others: A novella should explain why someone in the story did something you didn't agree with. Most people aren't evil for evil's sake - even if they appear that way from the side of good. I want deep characters with a history, and a past - not just your cardboard cut-out villains or champions. This definitely gave me the background I wanted.
3. I want it to change my opinion or question my thoughts on a character: My feelings on Jonas in Intangible were already mixed. I knew there was more than meets the eye, and I wanted to get a better understanding of who he is and what he stands for. You will definitely understand him better after reading this novella.
4. I want it to whet my appetite for the next novel: Or in this case ABSOLUTELY SLAY me with desire for the next book. I've actually tried to pick the book back up three times since I finished it, expecting more.
5. I want it to be a complete story: I know this will never happen, but that's what I want. It didn't happen here either.
I can't give it five stars only because I'm left with a sense of incompleteness. However, I am absolutely DYING to read the next book in the series, and also considering re-reading Intangible, just to see the world from Jonas' eyes throughout the first book.
Indomitable is a prequel novella to Intangible by J. Meyers and it focuses on Jonas and how he became the powerful being he is when we meet him in Intangible. I didn't think it was possible to like Jonas anymore than I already did but I was so wrong. He has overcome SO much in his life and dealt with so much tragedy. My heart just broke for him as I read this novella. There was quite a bit of crying going on here. I went through half a box of kleenex. J. Meyers, you've done it again. I get more enthralled with these characters with every tidbit you give us. I can't wait to see what you show us next! ~Mel

If you've read my review of Intangible (which you probably haven't, but oh well...), you know that I absolutely loved Jonas' character. So I was very excited when I saw that this short story about him had just been released!
This story takes place before everything that happens in Intangible. It switches between present time and 200 years ago. The part of 200 years ago tells you something about how Jonas became a vampire and what happened after that.
Even though you get a free preview of Intangible at the end of this story, I wouldn't recommend reading this before having read Intangible, because I think you'd understand some things a little bit better if you know more about the world and the characters. Also, it has a spoiler for Intangible in it, about a character.
So yeah, I would really recommend this story if you liked Intangible, and I think you'll definitely like it if you liked Jonas!
Well, I totally loved this mini book! I've read 2 other books from this author and i've absolutely loved all of them!
Point of View. I've talked so much about a book's point of view in the past that I think everyone knows that I love First Person. For whatever reason, i usually have a hard time getting into stories written in 3rd person. The books written by J.Meyers are all third person but they are written so beautifully and craftily that i didn't even realize! They are so captivating i didn't have time to concentrate on the point of view! Another thing that these books do great, is that they switch between characters. This gives great perspective to the scenes without getting confusing. I enjoy reading J.Meyer's 3rd person books.
Plot. The purpose of this companion is to help establish Jonas' back story. In Intangible, you can absolutely tell he's a different sort of vampire and he alludes to his past and what how his past shaped him, but since this books it's all about him and his struggles, you can really see it firsthand. It's switches between "now" and 200 years in the past (when he was still human) which gives an excellent overview of his character! It's truly a heartbreaking story but i'm glad to know more about one of my favorite characters of the series.
For me this book was over too soon. I def wanted to know more! I cant wait to read the the next book in the series and i would def recommend this novella and the other novella, Intuition, to anyone wanting to get into a great paranormal series!
Jonas was a vampire. He wasn't a usual vampire, he was special, the chosen one. But he hadn't always been. He was human once.
This was a short novella that played as a bit of an origin story for Jonas. It is entirely from his point of view, flashing back and forth between his past life and his current one.
Jonas is a really intriguing character. So much is unknown about him, and this novella answers quite a few questions, while making you want to know him more. His origin is heartbreaking. As you read, your heart bleeds and your chest just bursts open. He rages, and you want to rage right along with him. It's awful, what happened to him, and it's saddening that this kind of thing was very real back then.
I was happy that I read this after I had finished Intangible. It wouldn't have mattered, storywise, as it only set up Jonas' place in the story a bit more. I liked reading this after though as I feel that knowing his origin has forever changed my outlook and opinion of him. I had more fun falling for his character in Intangible, and I feel like it would've been corrupted had I known this first. His origin makes you want to feel sorry for him, and if he could jump from the pages, I think he would be upset with you for feeling as such.
Definitely was worth the read, especially if you are as captured by this series as I am, but I do recommend reading it after Intangible. I think it will make it a better series for you if you do.
I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.
Indomitable is a novella about a character Jonas out of J. Meyers novel Intangible. Jonas was one of my favorite characters from Intangible. I hope that Sera and Jonas get together in the next book Imaginable. I have read both Intangible and Intuition and loved them both. If you have not read them yet then I think you need too. Why? You may ask well because they are very great, fantastic reads.
Jonas is a vampire who in Intangible was sent to kill Sera and her twin brother Luke. Indomitable tells us who Jonas is and how he became a vampire. Jonas has been a vampire for 200 years. Indomitable tells of Jonas' life before he became a vampire and who his maker Lilith was. Jonas' was a slave with a very mean, cruel, evil "overseer" a sorry excuse of a man. I don't see how he could even be called a man much less a human.
Jonas is a man or I guess I should say vampire with a very big heart. He is just an all around great guy, Just don't cross his ass or mess with anyone that he cares about because he just may come around for a visit and bite your ass.
I can't wait to read Imaginable to find out more about Sera, Luke, Fye, Jonas and all the other characters from Intangible. Will Sera and Jonas become a couple? I certainly hope so. Will Luke and Fye get together? Hopefully, yes. Can Jonas save Sera and Luke with Fye's help? I am anxiously a waiting the arrival of Imaginable.
This is the prequel of Intangible, and it's AMAZING! This GREAT little short story is of Jonas and how he became to be and what he had to go through in his human life to his vampire life!
I've always had a soft spot for Jonas. In the first book Intangible, he was such a strong, important character and I always felt Jonas would do to great this in this series! I always secretly hoped for something more between Jonas and Sera, and I'm praying we get to see that in the second book in the series!
This book takes you back and forth through the present and past time, and what Jonas went through in them times!
The book starts with Jonas already a vampire in the present time and it show his struggles through day to day while he's having flashbacks when he was a slave and how he was turned into a vampire.
Jonas is struggling with his sisters death over 200 hundred years ago and can still hear her screams. It haunts him everyday, while he's reliving the day of her death over and over again!
Jonas may seem hard on the outside but Jonas is really a big softy in the inside! Jonas has dedicated his vampire life to protect the innocent, including the prophesied twins, Sera the healer and her brother Luke the seer!
This is A MUST READ for ALL Intangible fans! You definitely don't want to miss Jonas's story! When this was over I wanted MORE of Jonas and how he became the man or should I say vampire is his today!
If this novella is an indication of how the Intangible series is going to be, I am very glad I went ahead and purchased all of it that's available right now! I'm looking forward to reading more.
This short novella gave an in-depth look into the past of the character named Jonas. You find out who he is and how he became the way he is today by delving deeply into his past. By the end, the story leads up to the characters that are going to be in the next book, or one of the characters, and very short meeting with that character with surprising results. I'm trying not to give anything away so it's a very cryptic explanation here so please read it to understand this much better!!
It doesn't take a lot of time to read this novella and if you are even considering reading this series, this could be a very good start (though you could also start with Intuition which is a bonus Intangible short story that is really good and introduces you to the main characters really well. It's free on Amazon as I type this so grab it if you haven't!). I have a feeling you could really enjoy this after you've read the series as well as a way of going back and learning more about the character of Jonas.
Any way you go about it, I'd recommend reading this book as it's well written and you won't be able to put it down. I really enjoyed it and am now going to read the first book in the series.
I got a copy for review in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, so I was excited when I heard there was another short story coming out. This short story tells Jonas story, only minpoint is that I couldn´t remember who he was exactly he was, because it has been some time since I read book 1. Later on I found out that actually this short story takes place before book 1 and it isn´t nessecary to know who Jonas is.
This story gives us some more background about Jonas. The beginning I was a bit confused about who Jonas was and when it all took place, but in the end I finally got a good sense when this took place. Some parts are flashbacks, which I am not a big fan of, but at least it was obviously which chapter were in the past and which in the present time. Some parts contain some gruesome details and his past is a bit dark, but it was interesting to know how he became a vampire. I especially liked the ending because there was a link with something that happens in book 1.
To conclude: a nice story, that gives us some backrgound about Jonas. I was a bit confused at first about who Jonas was and when this took place, but in the end this became obvious. I liked the ending and after reading this I am really looking forward to read book 2.
So… Indomitable is a prequel to Intangible told in Jonas’s POV. In case you haven’t read Intangible, I wont have any spoilers, but it is about twins, a brother and sister, who are prophesied to either destroy the Realm (where the supernatural live) or save it. Because of this, many want to kill them, and some want to protect them.
Jonas is a vampire who was originally meant to kill them when they were born. But he didn’t want to kill innocent babies, and didn’t. Instead another vampire was said to have killed them.
This is a short story, that tells some background into who Jonas is, and what makes him who he is. The things he went through in his human life (being a black man, he was a slave and had to watch some horrible things happen) and about how he went all vengeful after he was turned.
Jonas was one of my fav characters from Intangible, so this was a great treat for me.
It was too short for me, a little teaser, and I really wanted more. But the writing was superb (even though it was an unedited ARC) and I enjoyed learning more about Jonas.
See my reviews for Intangible and Intuation (another prequel short story).
I received a copy of this story from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Wow! This was a hard hitting, emotional punch in the gut kind of read. I've always been curious about Jonas's backstory and by taking a look into his past, I was given a lot of insight into his present actions and motivations. What he went through in his human life before becoming a vampire was shocking and knowing similar events happened in real life during that period of time in this country is difficult to read about let alone imagine. I couldn't help but shudder.
I can completely see how Jonas becomes the way he is now, and he's become even more likable to me. I've always had a soft spot for him. The action alternates between the past and present, and you can see how his past has affected him. There isn't much diversity in the YA genre, in my opinion, and so it's refreshing to have a major character such as Jonas of a race other than white--he's African American. He's intriguing, conflicted, and complex, and I just really love trying to figure him out. He's an enigma--there are so many layers to him just waiting to be peeled back...I love it!
This is an action-packed, fast paced story that gives us a look from Jonas's perspective and tides us readers over until the next novel comes out. I'm counting down the days in the meantime!! :)
INDOMITABLE is a day in the life and shoes of Jona's - a powerful vampire that was expected to kill the prophesied twins when they were babies. But, Jonas doesn't hurt innocents.... but why? Jona's is one of the most powerful vampires who claims to not have a care in the world. So why did he spare these babies... and why didn't he do anything to them as teens in INTANGIBLE???
In INDOMITABLE, we find out why. We are brought back to what happened to him and his sister all those years ago. How he was created. What he did. And what his purpose was going to be.
It's heartbreaking. I needed tissues.
I liked Jonas' character already - and now, my heart aches for him. And I cannot wait to read more about him.
It is not necessary to read this before INTANGIBLE. But, I'm sure that after you do read INTANGIBLE, you are going to want more of Jonas and how he came to be.
I am really looking forward to book two to this series! I don't read or follow many self-published authors, but I do know that wherever J. Meyers publishes it will always be on the top of my list!
Indomitable was a short story about Jonas, a vampire in Intangible. He was one of my favorite characters in Intangible, so I jumped on the chance to get to know more about his past and Indomitable did not disappoint. The writing was descriptive and I thought the backstory was incredibly creative and unique. I feel like I know Jonas a little better and I know why he was chosen so many years ago by his maker.
J. Meyers has managed to impress me with everything I’ve read. I come across supernatural beings I’ve seen before in her books, but they are different and unique in their own way, which was one of the reasons I rated Intangible so highly when I read it. Jonas isn’t a typical vampire with a typical history that I’ve encountered before.
The only negative thing I can say about the novella is that it was short and I wanted more. Which is not a bad thing at all. It’s not so short it’s not worth buying, it just makes me want to reread Intangible or pick up some of the other novellas in the series!
"Slavery is theft -- theft of a life, theft of work, theft of any property or produce, theft even of the children a slave might have borne." ~Kevin Bales, Understanding Global Slavery
200 years ago a slave named Jonas endured the most hideous crimes against humanity because of the free license to do whatever, whenever all because of one word...SLAVERY. One of the most horrible words in existence.
Except in this story there's a dark twist of bloody revenge...
My thoughts: Jonas was one of my favorite characters from Intangible, Book 1 of the Intangible Series! A vampire with a soul, morals and humanity! This is exactly the thing that kept me watching Buffy and Angel for all those years! Oh how I love a character who...
This is Jonas' story ... and it's sooooo very, very, very incredible!!! You could definitely read this anytime, before/after/during Intuition and/or Intangible, just be prepared to want more of the Intangible Series!!! If you don't know about the series, see my reviews of Intuition and Intangible here: http://knowntoread.blogspot.com/2012/..., but don't worry about this review spoiling anything for those books.
So Jonas is a pretty mysterious (and oh so sexy) guy -- oh yeah, he's a vampire, too. We meet him in Intangible and are given some hints about his past and his thoughts on and history with Sera. In Indomitable we get to spend time in Jonas' head and we get to know his past. I'm not one to spoil and Indomitable is only 50 pages long, so I'm not going to go into any details; just know this is an incredible, incredible novella and YOU WANT TO READ THIS!!!! Abso-freakin-lutely!!!
I fell in love with J.'s writing after reading the prequel to her YA series Intangible, Intuition. I loved her characters, the storyline, just everything.
After reading the first book, Intangible, I knew this was a series that I had to have more of and an author that I could expect great things from.
I loved Jonas' character in Intangible and was thrilled that J. was giving us a story just about him. I knew that big hunk of a man had to have a story, I mean, he has been alive a really long time. How could there not be a lot of history there?
I am thrilled with what J. gave us. Jonas' story was heartbreaking. I felt for him and loved him all the more.
I can't wait to read more about him. I sincerely hope he has a big role in the next book because I want more from him. I want him to have a HEA.
I received a copy of this from the author for review, thank you!
In this short story, we get to see a bit more of Jonas the vampire, before the events of the first book. I liked getting to read this little story and learn a bit more about him, I remember thinking he was pretty cool in the first book too.
After reading this I really feel for him, such an awful thing happened before he was a vampire and it gave him so much anger. It also shows his change, and how he adjusted to his new life and of course his connection to Lilith.
If you liked the first book, then definitely give this a shot! I’m really excited for the next book to be out.
Indomitable is a novella about the character Jonas from J. Meyers full-length novel, Intangible. I loved this novella, I read it in one sitting! I was surprised by the depth of emotion that was portrayed in Jonas' story. I definitely was not expecting such sadness and heartbreak, yet I feel that I now understand his character much better than I did before. I also appreciated that I got more insight into other characters from Intangible through Jonas' story. If you are looking for a light read, this is not it. Jonas' story is heartbreaking. I don't want to say more because I don't want to spoil it. The novella ends right where he meets Sera in Intangible. I appreciated this story very much!!! I hope that J. Meyers decides to write many more books in this series because I can't get enough! Five stars!!!
I received this book for free. This is my honest review.
Indomitable is a short story following Jonas, a boy turned vampire 200 years before the story takes place. We get to see how Jonas became the way he is and get to see glimpses of his past. I loved being able to see how his story and the twins (Luke and Sera) connect and to see why he is the way he is. Why did he go against his creator and risk everything for these two siblings? After reading this story, I really want to reread "Intangible" to remind myself of this awesome story. I feel that this short story can be read before or after reading "Intangilble". It does not give anything away from the story line. It offers just the right amount of background of Jonas to make it interesting and add to the full length story centering around the prophesied story of Luke and Sera. Great way to keep the reader interested with the series while waiting for the next chapter of their story.
Oh wow. Never has a such a short book left me so emotional. I loved Jonas from Intangible so when I heard he was getting his own book I was thrilled! But oh how my heart broke for him. Indomitable tells the story of Jonas' past and how he became a vampire. Being black he had to live as a slave and the things he went through were just horrible. It's just so heart-breaking to know that this is what people did actually go through years ago. Hearing the things Jonas did after he was turned you could fully understand why he did them. But even after all the pain and suffering he went through he still came out a better man, wanting to protect innocents. I can't wait for the next book to continue this amazing story.
I received an ecopy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review
I don't usually like e-novellas. I figure-- if you want to write a book, write a book! But J. Meyers has totally hit me in my sweet spot-- Jonas was my favorite character from Intangible, and I wanted to find out more about him. This novella gave me everything I was asking for.
Indomitable by J. Meyers tells the story of Jonas, a side character in Intangible. This novella explores how he became a vampire, and how he first met his maker, Lillith. His story starts with him as a slave, and terrible events surround his making. I won't say any more as to not give away more of the plot.
The facts that make this work: it is well written, and about a character that is compelling. A must read for fans of Intangible.
I enjoyed this novella told from Jonas' POV. When I read Intangible, I found myself wanting to know more about Jonas. I'm happy that Indomitable provided me with the opportunity to learn more about his character. Now, I understand the horrors of his human years and the nightmare that haunts him. What a vampire! he defies Lillith and strives to protect innocents. I love the scene where he protects the young child. A strong character always uses their power for good. Looking forward to learning more about him and his relationship with Sera. Great, quick read! I always know when I love a book because the end always leaves me wanting more. Indomitable left me wanting more!!
I was provided a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.
This is a fairly short novella about Jonas. He was our awesome yet mysterious vampire from Intangible. I wondered about his past and now I have some of the answers.
There was something about Jonas that just draws you to him. Learning about what his past held, was interesting to follow and learn. It definitely gave us insight to why he is the way he is, and why he was made a vampire by Lilith. I think I like him even more knowing what I do. I can’t wait for Imaginable this year to see more of Sera, Luke and Definitely Jonas.
If you are a fan of Intangible, this is a fantastic way to get to know more about one of the characters. Pick this one up, it is a fast and enjoyable read.
This novella was a great insight to Jonas's past -- how he became a vampire, who he was before that, how he got pulled into Lilith's game. It's pretty sad, but it's well-written, keeps you reading, is a fast read. It still leaves some questions unanswered, making me want the sequel to Intangible (Imaginable) even more! Really, if you liked Intangible, you should definitely read this for that much-needed fix between books.
