Return to Woodvalley Pines…where a sexy police officer comes across one troublemaker that he’s determined to pin down.
Cat is looking to snag herself a cowboy. After all, what else is there to do in the small town of Woodvalley Pines. And after the year she’s had, she deserves to treat herself. There’s only one problem. Cody freaking McBride. The devil himself. And the bane of her existence. It’s bad enough she has to look at his smug face most days, but now he’s made it his mission to meddle in her love life. Which means only one thing, it’s about to get ugly.
Single dad and local cop Cody thought he was done with love. He was content in his routine. Work, eat, sleep, repeat. But then Cat shows up in town. Lighting fires wherever she goes and hurling insults his way while she’s doing it. He actually finds himself enjoying fighting with the little she-devil, it’s the most alive he’s felt in years.
Woodvalley Pines is about to witness the ultimate showdown. Where clothes aren’t the only things getting torn to shreds.
Cop-Off is set in a small town filled with sassy heroines, hunky heroes, and busybodies who can’t help but share their two cents. Fans of Any Man of Mine by Rachel Gibson and Worth the Risk by Jamie Beck will love Isobel Reed’s steamy, snarky romance!
Isobel was born and raised in London. While she’s a city girl at heart, she loves daydreaming about running away to a charming small town—though she’s not entirely sure her husband and son would share her enthusiasm for the move. When she’s not writing small-town romantic comedies or growing unhealthily attached to the characters in her books, you can find her reading, chasing after her very active toddler, or attempting to channel her inner domestic goddess in the kitchen (with varying degrees of success).
Known for her witty dialogue and swoon-worthy small-town heroes, Isobel signed with Inkspell Publishing in 2021. The following year, she released Love Tools, the first book in her four-book Bluestone Series. In early 2024, she launched Toasted, the debut novel of her seven-book Love Burns Series, which will roll out over the next year.
Cat is looking to start online dating and land a cowboy, but it is all thwarted when Colt McBride finds out. If there was a person she loves to hate it is Colt and the feeling is mutual. With their friends determined to push them together to bury the hatch. Their efforts have different results and a heated moment leads to something more and both begin to see different sides of one another. Can the hot cop single dad and the feisty Cat find a happily ever after together or are they doomed to fail?
Such a fun book, opposites attract. Really liked all the characters and Colt's son is adorable. Really enjoy this authors books, each character is different and the stories pull you right in. Highly entertaining.
Cat moved to Woodvalley Pines, Wyoming to give herself time to find peace and heal after some family chaos and stress. After a period of time, she realizes she has missed the peace you can find in a good partner...and the idea of having something more entertaining to do with her free time and a sexy cowboy doesn't hurt. She was living with her best friend Libby, but the decision was made for Libby's boyfriend Zach to swap apartments with Cat - so he moves in with his Libby and Cat gets her own space. With her newfound free time, Cat decides to try her hand at online dating and sets up a profile.
Unfortunately for Cat, Zach's best friend is the most ANNOYING MAN EVER, a single-dad cop in town named Cody. Cody and Cat are like vinegar and oil, always clashing, trading snappy comments and irritating the hell out of one another. Since she doesn't know much of anyone else, they always end up together being invited by their own best friends to join to fun. They both consider the other an annoying aspect of their friendships and can't help but trade barbs when they're together. However, when Cody finds out Cat has set up an online dating profile, he can't control his jealousy and pulls some strings to get her account removed. Cody realizes some uncomfortable truths about just why he hassles Cat so much all the time, and when he finds Zach set Cat up on a date with his brother, he is so bothered by it that he crashes the date.
Before Cat and Cody realize what's happening, they're making out in his truck on the main drag with an entire restaurant full of people watching! They end up realizing they are wildly attracted to each other and that's what adds to the animosity they treat each other with. When Cody's son, Dylan, and the local busybodies have to be considered, they are forced to confront what is happening between them and reflect on past losses and lessons to decide what is the safest choice for them all.
What a fun, fast read! The banter was so much fun, the genuine emotions of love and loss, fears and expectations were so true to life. There was some spice but my favorite part was watching Cody and Cat and the way they work together, or maybe work against one another? I'm tracking down more reads by this author.
Another wonderful standalone small town romance in the love burns series. This time following Police Officer Cody, and Libby's best friend Cat. I absolutely loved the enemy to lover tension, all their hilarious banter and jokes towards each other, and the nicknames were brilliant. This made me smile so much, they think they hate each other but all that frustration and tension builds into steamy passion and chaos. With the added inexperience of dating and not knowing how to show his feelings, single Dad Cody becomes a raging ball of possessiveness and chases away any attempt for Cat to date someone else, which only ignites her fury further. It's a fun slow burn that also explores patience and vulnerability on both sides, and a lot of empathy and understanding. Cody's kid Dylan is also the sweetest and very accepting of Cat. Overall this is a sassy, feel good romance with a touch of spice. Looking forward to the next book.
🚨 "You get those claws of yours filed down?" "Why don't you come a bit closer and find out for yourself?"
🚨 "One minute he was ribbing her, the next he was oozing sex"
🚨"Don't make me get out my cuffs, kitten" "Don't make me shove them up your arse, Satan"
🚨"The idea of you with another man makes me want to burn the goddamn world down"
🚨 You think a woman wants to be with some manwhore who has the emotional intelligence of a two year old! Hell no! We want a real man. And you, honey, are it."
Cat has had a year and thinking moving to a small town would help set her life back in motion, that is until Cody McBride comes into her life. The lawman is the bane of her life as there banter and insults become something she looks forward to is there something wrong with her, or is she falling for the infuriating man.
Cody was drifting through his life not really wanting to get involved with anyone until the hell cat came into his life. Cat is forth rite, opinionated and has lit something inside of Cody which has not been there for a long-time. Her insults and banter feel like foreplay and his attraction to her is becoming more and more with each interaction. Can he put his feelings aside or are they destine to get together?
I love this author, her ability to draw you into the story and become a part of it is wonderful and her characters are always interesting and well developed. Cat's character is full of spice and sass which makes her a brilliant counter part to Cody who is himself fun and the banter between them had me laughing out load at times. The way the story weaves through both the main characters is brilliant and would love to be there to see these interactions.
Although this is part of a series each book can be read as a stand alone and I recommend if this is the first delve into the world of this author you need to read more.
4 stars “He actually finds himself enjoying fighting with the little she-devil, it’s the most alive he’s felt in years.” LOL "Don't make me get out my cuffs, kitten" "Don't make me shove them up your arse, Satan"
Cop-Off is the second delightful book in the Love Burns series by Isobel. Woodvalley Pines is where it is all happening and like any town there are the quirky and nosey residents who keep the rumour mill flowing. I love it. It is a slow burn enemy to lover’s trope that sets the town on fire. If you are like me and love a good Rom Com Isobel provides. I haven’t laughed so hard in ages, and I was laughing out loud throughout this wonderful tale due to the wit, the banter, the cross winds, the name calling. But there is also a vulnerability to the characters underneath their hard exteriors. They are so good that those pages kept turning. Cat is unabashed, free willed, saucy, loud and proud and don’t get in her way. Cole is a lawman just going through the motions, but he meets his match, and she sets him on fire as she goes about town causing mischief and mayhem wherever she goes. With sparks that fly, chemistry that oozes off the pages, tension that is palpable talk about hot, hot, hot. Cop-Off is a small-town romance with lots of sugar and spice, sexy cops, and sassy leading ladies. I am waiting with anticipation for the next book.
This is the second book in the series and I feel that it can be read as a stand alone. That being said, you will want to read the other books in this series because of the way this one was written. This book was a quick and easy read for me. The words that the author put together on the pages just flowed from one to the next, before I knew it, the book was over and I was left craving more. This is an enemies to lovers trope which I find that I enjoy. It is the push and pull of the characters that really allowed me to sink my teeth into this book and just get lost in the story line. It is a small town romance which makes it even better because with all small towns everyone know everyone and is connected somehow. When one decides to try online dating and the other stands in the way of that of course there is some friction but there is also some steam. This book has some amazing banter between the characters that will help you love them even more. I just can't get over what a great read this was and now I am looking forward to reading more from this author. If you have an afternoon or a couple days depending on how quickly you rad, I highly suggest this book. It will transport you into the small town and you will feel like a friend in their group of people. What a better way to read a book than to feel like you could live it.
This is the second book in the Love Burns series. This is a very steamy romance with off the wall chemistry and emotions that run high. I love the characters of Cody and Cat. Both of them are likeable, realistic characters. I couldn't help but feel total immersed in their story.
Cat and Cody share best friends but their relationship is definately one filled with hate. They can't go 5 minutes without ripping into each other. But as people say there is a very thin line between love and hate. What if the explosive chemistry is more to do with attraction than hate? As it turns out that is just what it is and when they give into it they both risk getting burnt. But things won't be easy, both of them have issues in their past they need to work through. And when Cat runs back home what will happen? Will Cody keep his promise to be by her side no matter what or will Cat leaving mean the end of this relationship before it even begins.
This is a really engaging romance with so many emotions wrapped up in a steamy chemistry. The sexual chemistry has more to deal with than just the couple issues as Cody is also a single dad so there is the additional element of Cody's son. How will their relationship affect him?
I loved this story. It is filled with so much passion and love. I can't wait to read more.
Cop Off was not my usual romance. It was fun, spicy, and actually made the reader feel for the characters. They were kind of relatable in a sense which made them well written main characters. I’ve read this author before and I’ve read another book in this series. I’ve enjoyed them all! Cat and Cody are at odds. Can’t stand to be near one another besides the attraction and tension between them. Instead choose to ignore it and continue to barb with one another daily. Well it changes and it changes rather quickly because Cody is done fighting what he wants, which is her. Feeling honesty was the best policy he instantly did a 180 and slowly pulled her in. Cat is skeptical but she can’t keep fighting her wants and needs. Plus she’s starting to really enjoy being around his son. With everything going on around them will it work out? These main characters learn valuable lessons about love and trust throughout this story. It’s what sucked in. It’s also why I’m here now. I enjoy a good tension filled romance every so often. And though I mentioned previously this book is part of a series. But it doesn’t have to be read that way. The author gives it its own substance making it read like a standalone novel. What I will say is once you read a book from this author, you are going to want more.
Cop Off is the second book in the Love Burns series by Isobel Reed. This is another witty and fun contemporary romance with a small-town setting, single dad, chemistry, spice, angst, emotion, humour, endearing characters, snarky banter, funny quips and antics, feel-good/heartwarming storyline, and just enough drama to keep things interesting. We join Cat and Kody (whom we meet in Book #1- as they are Libby, and Zack’s, best friends) and follow along as they find love unexpectedly. This has a bit of an enemies to lovers feel to it as Cat has decided that Kody is the bane of her existence and aims to ‘show him the error of his ways’. But the verbal sparring sets of sparks, which unexpectedly ignite into much more than either anticipated. Add in plenty of fun, snarky banter, heartwarming romance, friendship, and family- and their story takes a captivating turn. Can’t wait for Book #3, ‘Baked, which is Hunter and Rachel’s story. Happy Reading…
I am loving the Love Burns series. Here we have Cat, Libby’s best friend from book 1. Her and Cody have a funny and amusing relationship in which they rag on each other constantly. Their chemistry is sizzling, you can tell Cody, even though he is always running his mouth at her, is in lust with her, and Cat is too but it takes longer for her to admit it. It was a relief to finally have Cody go all alpha male, the woman is mine, to finally put them both in the frame of mind that they are in a relationship. Everything seems like smooth sailing until, issues with Cat’s family cause her to think about her relationship with Cody. My heart breaks for her and I totally get her confusion and emotional turmoil concerning her family. I love Cody’s patience and love towards Cat and her situation. The ending is wonderful, I loved the epilogue more than anything and now I can’t wait to read about Rachel and Hunter!
This can absolutely be a stand-alone book if you choose. You will still want to read the other books as well though. This book is one you cannot put down and it keeps you wanting more. Which, with wanting more that is why you can’t put it down. There is a lot of spice and some tension. Cat trying to get her life back on track and back together, after family drama. This book goes into that you can view someone one way, then something changes (in sort of a beauty and the beast way) and Boom all you want is that person. With the characters in this book, you can genuinely relate to someone at some point. It seems it could be something a writer went through to an extent. There is tension, love, irritation and really everything one can go through to find love. This book was an excellent choice for a quick read (because you cannot put it down) with fun and spice all while being easily relatable. So go read this book and snag all the books from this author as this will suck you in.
I have enjoyed reading this author’s books from the first one I picked up. This is one of my favorites yet. I enjoy this author’s creative writing style that makes the characters come to life. They are written with a lot of heart and are steamy as well. This is a well written story about Cody and Cat. He is a cop that has signed himself off of love and she is looking to find herself a cowboy. What she didn’t expect was to find Cody. I enjoyed them and what they brought to the story. Their journey and growth throughout the story made it easy and entertaining to read. I enjoyed their connection and hoped they found their HEA at the end. Their story is a fast paced, hard to put down story. An engaging story that you don’t want to miss. I highly recommend this book and I look forward to seeing what is next for this author.
4 Stars Cop-Off (Love Burns Series Book 2) by Isobel Reed
Cop-Off is the second book in the Love Burns Series. This is a Contemporary Romance that had me turning the pages till the end. I literally read this in one afternoon because I couldn’t put it down The characters are relatable, developed and creative, they make the story come to life and make you feel like you apart of it. The storyline flowed so well that I got lost in the pages and read this book in one afternoon. Get ready to be taken on quite the journey with Cody and Cat. He’s a cop and a single dad and Cat hasn’t had the best year so she’s looking to get herself a Cowboy. These two definitely have chemistry between them. Can they work out their differences? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I’m looking forward to reading more from this Author.
Another enjoyable and engaging romance set in the small town of Woodvalley Pines. The storyline has an enemies to lovers theme which kept me happily turning the pages. Cat has had a bad year and so she’s looking to treat herself, with a cowboy. However, police officer Cody McBride is meddling with her love life. As a single dad Cody keeps to a routine, work, eat, sleep, repeat. Then Cat turns up in town and starts causing trouble wherever she goes, whilst also hurling insults at him. Cody is surprised to find that he feels the most alive he’s felt in years, and Cat reluctantly admits that although not a cowboy, the local cop is rather handsome. Once again Woodvalley Pines came vividly to life through the descriptive narrative, making me feel immersed in the story. The chemistry between the likeable and relatable Cat and Cody came across in the narrative.
Cop-Off (Love Burns Series Book 2) by Isobel Reed. This is the 2nd book in the Love Burns series and its just as sizzling as the 1st. It's the story of Cat who is tired of the sleepy town of Woodvalley Pines and she is in the mood to find her a cowboy. Cat has had the ultimate crappy year and she is determined to find her some happiness. Cody is a single dad and a cop in town and he has sworn off love forever. He and Cat bash heads right off the bat. He gets on her nerves and she gets on his. Everywhere Cat goes she stirs up trouble and Cody has to be there to get her out of it. She pretends she can't stand Cody but each time she sees him, he gets cuter. Cat drives Cody crazy but he can't stop thinking about her. The sexual chemistry between Cody and Cat could be felt hot off the pages! This book will get your hot flashes going along with your funny bone!
I have read a few books from this author and she continues to blow my mind. This is the second book in the amazing Love Burn series. I love a good officer romance but this story exceeded my expectations. I could not get enough of these characters. I was so excited for this book I started to read it right away. I could not put it down until the end. It only took me a little over a day to devour this great story.
Cat finds herself in the small town Woodvalley Pine and she is not ready for this kind of life. She had a rough year and now she is ready to have some fun. Cat has always wanted to find a cowboy and that’s what she wants. She is on the prowl and she runs into Cody. Cat finds out that he is a local cop and now he is interfering with the guys she likes. She starts to get to know him and the sparks start to fly. Will Cat be enough for Cody or will she find herself alone?
Cop-Off is book 2 in the Love Burns Series. Many characters from book one are I. This book as well so it's best to read them in order.
I absolutely love Cat and her Spunk. Cat and Cody are so hot for eachother, all they can do is argue until Cody realizes why he teases her so much. They start off as hooking up her or there but the feelings burn deep for both of them. Cat leaves town in the middle of the night leaving nothing but a one page letter for Cody that she left the country to go back home and she wasn't coming back. The only thing Cody could think to do was go to her and show her how perfect they are together. Will Cat realize, Cody is in it for the long haul and as much as she thinks she doesn't, she does deserve him? Such a great addition! I love the banter between them throughout the book! Cannot wait book three, Baked!
I loved this one! Really just everything about it was perfect. The bantering between the two MC was so good making the back and forth exchanges were expertly done. One-liners, zingers and double entendre..check..check! I have never been a fan of the endearment “kitten” but in here? The way he says it makes me want to be called kitten! These two have a hate/hate to insta love that makes my head swirl. The possessiveness that overtakes him towards her makes my heart thump.
This quickly grew to be one of my favorites! The personal stories that each one bears are heartwarming and mix that with their hate/love relationship and I could not turn pages fast enough. The secondary characters help make this what it is. We see Libby and Zach their besties and get insight into a few future books with the rest of their friends. I look forward to reading the next in the series.
Cody McBride is a young widower and single father at the young age of 34. He thought he was done with love and content to just live his life with his son. That was until Cat came into his life and pretty much flipped his world upside down. There was something about her that he couldn't quite figure out. Cat on the other hand was hoping to rope herself a cowboy and forget what was happening in her life. She had a plan and was all set up on a dating site until officer jerkface decided to meddle in her love life. Can't these two just get along? Their form of flirting is to hurl insults at one another which had me laughing from time to time. Their chemistry was off the charts and it was easy to see the mutual attraction even if neither party wanted to admit it. This is a fairly quick read, less than 200 pages, and can be read as a standalone.
There is nothing better than a great ongoing snarky romance. But Cat and Cody are out to get on each other's nerves. They are both the devil in disguise, just ask them. Cody is a single dad and a cop. Cat on the other hand has had a crappy year, living in the small town of Woodvalley Pines, she is determined to find her happiness. This story is fast paced and the main characters are snarky to each other. Which makes for a great read. This is a romance to remember, so fun to read and watch Cat and Cody work through their differences. I really enjoyed this story, and know you will too. I have read other stories from this author and she never disappoints. Get ready for another must have series.
Having never read a book by this author before, I don't know what to expect. I also picked this series up on this book which is the second book of the series, but I wanna say I was pleasantly surprised how much I like this book. This author's writing is sharp and witty, capturing the chemistry between the characters while also exploring their personal struggles making the dialogue feel authentic, and the pacing keeps you invested from start to finish. The dynamic between the characters is particularly well-crafted, with trust, vulnerability, and the complexities of love shining through, alongside with chemistry and funny back and forth dialog which I loved. I also love the epilogue and now I can’t wait to read about Rachel and Hunter! And to go back and read the first one.
This author is one of my favorites because every book I’ve picked up by them is addictive! This is the second book in the Love Burns series, and although you can read this as a standalone, you’ll likely find yourself coming back for more. The character development is incredible, and I really loved the banter between our two main characters, Cat and Cody. There is a little spice thrown in as well, but it is not overwhelming whatsoever. The flow of the book feels natural while at the same time being filled with palpable tension. If you’re a fan of the enemies to lovers trope with a police officer thrown in, look no further than this amazing book. I am already eagerly awaiting the third book so hopefully the next two months fly by!
The friendship between Libby and Cat is hysterical. It’s how my conversations with my best friends constantly go and had me laughing out loud often.
You know what they say about the boy that pulls your hair really likes you? That’s pretty much Cody and Cat and I loved it.
These two are angry one second and sweet the next. Trying to figure out what it all means is driving each of them crazy which makes it so fun for the reader.
You can tell the author really has a great sense of humor. She adds in just the right amount of other feelings like love, loss, sadness, and frustration. I found myself 100% wrapped up in this quick read and can’t wait for book 3.
I absolutely couldn't with this book. I had one to many chuckles at the expense of the 2 main characters Cat and Cody. They both loved to get under each other's skin and drive each other up the proverbial wall. Cody is a single dad who is trying to keep to his routine, then Cat comes it and turns everything upside down and turns it all into chaos. I really did love reading the snark that would go back and forth between these two. Cat trying to find a cowboy to get under, and sees Cody and loves to mess with him. The sexual tension was seriously off the charts and I could feel it radiate from the pages. I absolutely loved this book, and I seriously can't wait for the next one to come out!
Book 2 in the Love Burns Series features Cody and Cat, best friends of the main characters from the first book in the series. Cody and Cat do not exactly get along, matter-of-fact they actually annoy the heck out of each other. But could their animosity towards one another actually be lust-filled attraction and the desire to be together? Finding out Cody is a single dad was a shock but makes him even more attractive to the reader. I really enjoyed their snarky comments and their steamy moments. Can't wait for the next book. This series has been great. Love the book length, makes for a perfect quick read.
There's a fine line between love and hate. When Cat and Cody meet sparks fly and not the good kind. Cat is determined to find herself a cowboy while Cody makes it his mission to see her fail. When he realizes why, his demeanor changes. Cat doesn't know what to think but realizes she never really got to know him. Will their new feelings be able to survive their pasts?
Who doesn't love a good love/hate book? It's one of my favourites to read and the author has nailed it. There's spice but it's not too much nor does it distract from the storyline. After enjoying these first 2 books in the series, I'm not so patiently waiting for the third one!
This phrase is precisely how the book opens. Cat, a new resident of Woodvalley Pines, Wyoming, is seeking companionship. The one person she is trying to avoid is Cody, a local policeman and the best friend of her best friend. And yet there is an attraction on both sides that neither of them can get past.
Alternately spicy and sweet, this book explores a relationship where both parties have experienced loss in their life. How do people move on and ahead - even when the person you are most attracted to drives you bananas?
I usually enjoy the enemies to lovers scenario so I wasn't worried about that. What caught me by surprise was how much I fell for Cody and Dylan, almost as much as Cat falling for them.
Cat is an amazing woman, she took three year off from life to take care of her Dad. The love she obviously had for her Dad was the special unconditional love that only a parent and child can share.
Cody was not at all like I expected him to be. He wasn't someone who dated a lot of women when he was so busy working and taking care of his son Dylan.
Very sweet whirlwind love story. Looking forward to the next book in this quant Small-Town.
This was a great 5 star read. I really enjoy the enemies to lover reads. I always enjoy reading this authors stories, she pulls you right in with her writing. This is Cody and Cat’s story. These two have a connection that you can feel coming off of the pages. These two had me LOL at times with their bantering. Their story was so well written and I wanted to see them get a HEA. THe pace was great and I didn’t want it to end. I look forward to reading more from this author. 1-click and get started today.
Enemies to lovers! I loved this story and could not put it down! Love the characters and their personalities which shine through in the words of their stories. Love the storyline and the progress of how everything happens. Lust, sadness, loss, love, and relatability really drew me in more to this whole story and I’d definitely recommend giving this a read! Love the snippet of the next story too and this is definitely a series I’m interested in reading the rest of so all the books in this series will be on my to read list! I really like the way this author tells the story and the originality.
