Catapulted into a strange medieval-like world, Lexi discovers the inhabitants are in need of a celestial maiden to awaken the stone warrior to defend the realm. It sounds better than being mistaken for a witch.
The catch is that the sacrifice must be willing and Lexi has a real problem with the 'sacrifice' part of that charming legend.
Like many authors, I spent much of my childhood days dreaming about being somewhere other than school. I'm happy to report my teachers were wrong when they said no one ever got anywhere daydreaming all day. I have a far more active blog at: http://www.nicoleash.com/blog

This was okay. I had been wanting to read this story for awhile and now I did. It's wasn't as good as I was hoping. The romance was okay, the story was just barely okay. Not my favorite. 2-1/2 stars
The only reason I tried this book was because it had a snippet at the end of The Ninth Orb (which I LOVED & constantly reread).
Don't waste your time, even though this story is relatively short. It's bland & irritating. The hero Cairn (stone warrior) lacks the character depth required of a frat boy, much less a mythical hero. Lexi is so very annoying. No spine, hand wringing, orgasm factory. Weak.
The story of Lexi and Cairn. This wasn't really my thing for several reasons. I liked the beginning, it held promise, but the story quickly became quite one dimensional. Lexi is transported from Earth to a strange world after reading an ancient book. Cooool. She is given as a sacrifice and strapped to a huge statue of a stone warrior. Cooool.
But...
The story just didn't progress much for me. They go on a quest which is pretty boring and not much happens, then the end seems to happen very quickly. They don't have many erotic moments and fall in love with each other pretty quickly. I just didn't feel their connection. Why was Lexi in love with him suddenly? I was hoping for more hot scenes, more reason to sense a growing closeness, but didn't get any. It could be because it's just too short a story to carry that kind of slow build I like.
It's also set in a medieval, backward civilisation which isn't really my thing at the moment. I prefer more space/sci-fi stories at the moment.
I liked the beginning but then suddenly it started to feel very rushed... Lots of questions were kept unanswered... and the ending was not satisfactory... It felt unfinished. Overall it felt like the author was rushed to finish the story... She finished it, lost inspiration and instead of waiting and making it better, update it and round the ending, she just published it.
I liked the story overall, but I'm not sure if I'll read any more of the author as the story didn't have a satisfactory ending...
Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas are decidedly not in this little paranormal ditty of alternative dimensions, stone warriors and their celestial maidens, and evil kings. A modern day heroine is transported from her cozy, book-filled apartment to an alternative, medieval-style world, where's she's literally strapped to a stone warrior as a sexual sacrifice in order to make him come to life.
Yup, you read that correctly.
The story could have gone up or down from there. Unfortunately, down it went, assisted by the poor editing and the consistent misuse of "it's/its" and "loose/lose". For a heroine who protested such a love of reading in the opening chapter, I was hoping a little good grammatical sense would have rubbed off.
Anyway, stone warriors fight, celestial maidens find true love, and everything is neatly resolved in about two pages.
