A rhyming picture book from singer-songwriter Tyler Hilton, with a musical bedtime routine to bring the house down!
Who’s ready to sing? Who’s ready to play? Then help me in welcoming DADDY on stage!
Daddy is going to bring the house down with a private concert in the living room. Bring all your stuffed friends to the living room and enjoy the show! From actor and musician Tyler Hilton comes a sweet window into the mind of a child, Daddy’s #1 fan, as her father serenades her with all her favorite nursery rhymes and bedtime songs. With hilarious illustrations by Eugenia Nobati, Live in Concert is a rockin’ good time until bedtime.
This is a raw, emotionally charged experience that feels less like a performance and more like a heartfelt conversation with the audience, his family, specially his girl child. Author's vocals are warm and intimate, carrying a quiet vulnerability that emotions land with genuine impact. The setting allows storytelling to shine, revealing layers of emotion, nostalgia and personal reflection that serious versions often can’t capture.
Concept makes you feel present in the room, sharing in the highs and heaviness of this theme explored. The emotional depth and sincerity easily outweigh the minor shortcoming that was there in terms of some more enlisted songs.
Overall, it is a deeply touching listen that showcases author’s growth as an artist and storyteller, making it a must-experience for fans who value emotion over spectacle.
Firstly, a big big thank you to the author, Tyler Hilton, the illustrator, Eugenia Nobati, the publisher, Familius, and Net*Galley for the opportunity to read this children's picture book, Daddy: Live in Concert. After coming across the book and thinking the cover was cute, I noticed the name Tyler Hilton and it struck me as familiar, and then I remembered - I had jammed out many a time, windows down, to Tyler Hilton's songs and still have his CD. I ran to get it and listened as I read, so I have to say this was a pleasant surprise and I got to listen to his music for the first time in a little while. It was just as good as I remember!
Onto the book review, this book is a super cute bedtime story with lovely illustrations and a sweet story. The story itself is a rhyming ballad written in an ABCB rhyme scheme, which is quite clever as it's a rhyme scheme more closely associated with music and the story is about a concert. I really liked this extra touch once I noticed - and the lines themselves do flow very well and the story is well-paced. A small girl is invited to a concert, and discovers the artist is the one and only - Dad! After singing her favorite songs with his guitar, the audience gets quite sleepy and ends the night with one last song. I would definitely recommend this one for children aged 0-5, who will really enjoy the colors of the illustrations, the rhyming pattern, and the context of the story!
The cover is very fun and light, and drew my attention immediately. I love the bright sign with the title, which really pulls forward the "concert" element of the story in a clever way. I also really enjoyed the illustrations throughout, especially the ones with backgrounds of the house and the details. All the details made the family's house feel real and loving.
Bedtime is super fun when you have a dad like this one.
It's almost bedtime, but then, a ticket appears slid under the bedroom door. The child can't believe her luck—she's going to a concert. There's a reserved seat, she needs to bring tons of her stuffed animals with her, and she has to appear in her pajamas. When she gets to the room, where the concert is taking place, she discovers Mom and her baby sibling already waiting for the show to begin. And what a show it will be, since it features the most amazing dad in the world.
A little imagination and silliness can go a long way, and these pages prove it. The girl's excitement for the concert radiates from the page, and it's inspiring how much effort her parents put into the fun. The preparations are simple but will have readers wanting to join right in...and be ready because they very well might insist on experiencing something similar themselves. But it's exactly this parent-child activity, which inspires in all the right ways. This gains an almost immediate interactive aspect, too, since the songs the dad sings are familiar to many young readers: Wheels on the Bus, Old McDonald, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
These pages make an easy read-aloud with a short, four-lined poem, which flows well. The illustrations are fun but carry a dimmer tone to match a darker, concert type of atmosphere...which slides right into a bedtime one, too.
This is a fun, simple enough read, which opens the door to some activities along the way. I received a DRC and found this to be a fun read.
What seems a misguided book to me, but then as a non-breeder I don't exactly have any youngsters hanging around to check with. This starts with a child exuberant, exhilarated and other ex-things, at the idea of a rock concert from her father. Front row pillow, plushies in a moshpit, here it is – until after two rip-snorting songs from playschool she's too tired to continue, so gets a lullaby instead. The idea is that the dad is wondrous for knowing and performing the playschool songs – I think he's a miracle-worker for having the girl so het-up and lively and joining in one minute, and in the land of nod the next page. Surely a book can't be this energetic and kinetic and still so sleep-inducing? Still, if it does work then more power to it, and at last something to get a child appreciative of their father – I bet the shelves are normally balanced towards the mother more times than not. As a mood-changing drama, this is probably a strong three stars – as a soporific, I doubt its success.
Heartwarming, tender, and full of sweet surprises—this charming story hits all the right notes.
In Daddy Live in Concert, Tyler Hilton beautifully captures the magic found in the simple moments between a father and daughter. The story begins when a mysterious ticket slides beneath a little girl’s door, inviting her to a special private concert. What unfolds is an endearing performance filled with love, laughter, and the kind of warmth that only a daddy can provide.
I adored the way Hilton brought to life the wonder through a child’s eyes—every page felt like a soft melody of love and comfort. The illustrations perfectly complement the gentle, joyful tone of the narrative, adding to the overall charm.
This is a wonderful read-aloud book, perfect for bedtime routines or any cozy parent-child moment. As a parent myself, the story resonated deeply, reminding me that the greatest shows are often right at
This is a really fun book that marries the magic of concerts and power of family. The father in this story gives an amazing concert to his daughter, and it absolutely makes her night. I really hope (and believe) that this book gets kids to be excited about concerts that they are attending, or to be inspired to attend concerts. However, the specific concert in this book illustrates a heartwarming familial connection. It's clear to readers how special and important Daddy's singing is to this book's little girl, and it truly makes readers very happy to see this. Lastly, this book is written in such a way that it makes for a perfect bedtime story, or anytime story. The story ends with the little girl getting a final song and being tucked into bed, which is an ideal ending for a bedtime story. Bravo!
Mother of two here! We loved the way the author, Tyler Hilton, hilariously set the stage for a fun, at-home concert. As a parent, I know the struggle to make the mundane (and sometimes long) days at home more exciting. I loved the goofy dad’s willingness to put on a show, for the entertainment of his wife and children. A rhyming children’s book is always a major plus for our family, too. The illustrations were absolutely adorable. My children and I loved spotting the different stuffed animals attending the show alongside the daughter. This book was original and clever, I would highly recommend it to any family with elementary-age kids.

Daddy: Live in Concert is the sweetest bedtime story to share - especially with those who have a music artist in the family. The artwork is engaging and accompanies the sweet storyline perfectly, allowing you to point out so many cute details to your little ones while reading. My favorite secondary characters would be the black cat, stuffed frog prince, and bunny slippers! I can't wait to purchase copies for all the little ones in my life.
Most dads are rock stars in the eyes of their children. This cute picture book by real life rock star Tyler Hilton celebrates that love with a story about a private concert in the living room. In the cute rhyming story Daddy rocks out with all the classics: Wheels on the Bus, Old MacDonald and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. The concert turns to a lullaby as Daddy carries the little one to bed. The adorable illustrations by Eugenia Nobati capture Hilton and his wife actress Megan Park. The scenes are in darker hues than usual for a picture book, creating the evening atmosphere perfect for bedtime. Picture books with celebrity authors are a trend with uneven results, but this little treasure is a big hit.
What a sweet story about the parent-child bond. This one will be fun for kids and will encourage parents to create magic for their children by simply “elevating” favorite activities (in this case, reframing the singing of lullabies as a concert). It’s a great reminder of how our kids view us and the ways that we can make them feel special and seen. Love it!

This adorable picture book is so much fun! Daddy doesn't just give his family real concerts, he sends out invitations and takes requests! And when you get tired, he'll help you off to sleep. I'm sad my daughter is too old for this in her night routine. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this.
A cute bedtime book featuring Daddy. If you have ever sung to a child at bedtime, or been sung to as a child this will bring back some pleasant memories. If you haven't, this book may just inspire you to sing at bedtime.
