David's last years were spent in his own home overlooking the Momella National Park in Tanzania. In July 2015 David travelled his last safari accompanied by his family and hundreds of African and European friends
This is the third of David Read's memoirs centered around his life in Tanganyika and Tanzania. As someone who also grew up in the same area, I especially enjoyed the first two memoirs, but I found this one too disjointed. Most of the chapters center on the years he farmed land on the slopes of west Kilimanjaro at a place called Ol Molog. Most of the chapters center on the early 1950s but some jump to the late 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. The chapters are all given titles but the events go far beyond the titles within the chapter. He tells of several affairs he had but gives no background on why he had these affairs and they come out of nowhere. Several chapters bring out interesting information about the Maasai. I do recommend his first two books. Give this one a try, if you want, but I found it somewhat disappointing.
