Brittany Bromley is the debut author of Finding You, book one in The Switched Series. After growing up in both the states of Tennessee and Mississippi, she now calls the wonderful state of Tennessee home. She can be found there with her amazing husband and three beautiful daughters usually watching entirely too much reality TV. You can find her on twitter and Facebook.
Big beautiful interior design books are one of my guilty pleasures. Relaxed Elegance is a pleasure to read and gaze upon. I appreciate that Brittany Bromley relates her design process in the text that accompanies the pleasing photography. I'm sure I could never afford her services, so it's helpful to learn from her in these pages. Although I enjoyed looking at and reading about these projects, I was struck repeatedly by the scope and cost. (Bromley doesn't disclose the cost, but it's obvious.) I think the textiles or wallpaper from a couple of the rooms probably cost more than my house. There is a mistake on page 229--the text begins in the middle of a sentence without a beginning to the sentence. I wondered if a page had been left out. Bromley thoughtfully includes an extensive resource list at the end of the book.
It wouldn’t be fair for me to rate this book, since I didn’t read it, just flipped through to look at pictures and read a few captions. I’m looking for inspiration for my own home in the dream that years from now I will actually own a home which I can decorate (I’m 43, so this is very much a dream).
This book is full of homes with bathrooms equal to the size of half my current rental house, so it turned out not to be very helpful. Her style also doesn’t match mine whatsoever. While there were details here and there that I liked, I’ll be returning the book to the library.
For the curious, I’d say the styles shown in the book are French and floral, or modern plus French & floral, and very very expensive. Based on the other reviews, other people found it more inspiring and relatable than I did.
Brittany Bromley's work is classic and stunning. I enjoyed how she took us through each home featured in her book (including her own!) and gave the details behind many of the design decisions. She also included some paint/wallpaper/finishings brand names (and colors). Her own dining room is the stuff of dreams... and I really really want those owl prints from Casa Gusto!
