Karea is princess of the faeries in the Kingdom of Light. Raised alone by her father, Karea wants for nothing, is denied nothing.
Except the magic of her people.
After a startling betrayal, Karea must flee the only home she's ever known. Three years later, broken and hunted, with a war threatening everything she holds dear, her only hope comes from an unexpected source.
Auberon, prince of the Kingdom of the Dark has no love for the sworn rivals of the fae throne he is set to inherit. Yet when he comes across the fallen heir in need, he cannot turn away.
Drawn together by forces beyond their control, Karea can't run from the flames of passion igniting between them.
As the war intensifies, a deeper danger threatens the two races, and a prophecy ties two lovers together.
Okay, I feel kinda weird doing this because it's my own book, but I have so much pride in this. I worked so hard on this and poured my love and soul into this book.
I hope you enjoy it. I won't be the type of person to read reviews as this space is for readers, not me. But I hope you enjoy the little world I made.
ARC reader: For a first novel from this author, I am very impressed. The story was incredibly interesting, and I was invested in the characters from the beginning! The romantic banter was very cute, and I liked their relationship. The one thing that took my rating down just a notch was that, at times, the story and/or the dialogue felt rushed and a little cliché. But not enough that it severely detracted from the story! Thank you for allowing me to read this interesting story early! ☺️
I absolutely loved this book! A romantasy story of balance between the Goddess of Life, the Goddess of Death, the Kingdom of Light, and the Kingdom of Dark, and the great sacrifices made to save them all. It has Fairies, Fae, Magic, Found Family, War, and Fated Mates with a dash of spice. With this being the first book by H.L. Charlesworth, I cannot wait to see what is next.
I really enjoyed this book! It was a great read, the characters and storyline were amazing. Bron and Rea complimented each other so well. I really liked how we got to watch their relationship develop. I also loved how different the storyline was , it felt so knew and H.L. did a great job telling it. The ending did feel a little quick but the execution was really good and I don’t think it took away anything from the story. I can’t wait to see what else she writes!
Bound by Starlight is a lovely debut novel. I'm honored to have received this as an ARC. This was a 3.75⭐️ and 0.5 🌶
The FMC, Karea, is a sheltered princess who is coming of age. When tragedy strikes, she is forced to face the real world that she was never prepared for. Her naivety was annoying for me, BUT it was necessary. She was severely sheltered after all. I've read a string of overly confident morally grey FMC, so it was just simply a change of pace for me.
What Karea lacked for me, the MMC Auberon made up for with some boldness. He complemented her well. The side characters also kept the book interesting.
I enjoyed the journey with these characters and their found family. The build up to the end was fast paced, but I didn't expect the climax to end so abruptly. It felt a little rushed at the end. I needed a little more fight.
Overall, I'm glad I had the opportunity and time to read this story. I look forward to following H.L. Charlesworth's career and what else she has in store for us!
I received this copy as an ARC and I have to say I was blown away. For a first book, I wasn’t expecting to be drawn in so quickly!
The romance was wonderful, I challenge you NOT to fall for the male main! If Mr. Darcy was a fae warrior prince- level swoon!
The female is a little *annoying* in how she treats him for a good portion of the book… but she is also only 21 and went through horrendous trauma. So bear with her!!! Damn near everything was kept secret from her and she has no idea what’s going on around her.
Most of the side characters are also fleshed out. Each has their personality.
But the strongest point of the entire book is the world building. It could be a movie.
My only real issue is that the climax seemed too easy, over in a few chapters. I spent the whole walk up to the climax crying and then it just finished. I want a happily ever after, don’t get me wrong, but I also love it when the stakes couldn’t be higher and it looks like there’s no hope. I had to go back to reread it.
I hope there’s a second book because I love the world that was created but everything tied up so nicely I’m not sure what the second book would be.
Good debut Romantasy. Pretty standard for fantasy romance, fated mates. There was a bit of predictability to it, but not in a bad way. I hate when things come out of left field in books just to shake it up, and then they don't make sense. This didn't do that it had a pretty logical development to it. Spice level is low but present for those who look for that info before hand haha.
What a debut! This book has it all, excellent world building, fated mates, battle, sacrifice and magic. Lovely story telling through alternate pov. Highly recommend.
I had the pleasure of reading an ARC copy of this book. The ups and down the emotion I loved it every step of the way! Be prepared to cry but the way the story ends ahhhhh I love everything about this book if I could rate it more stars I would💖
A captivating read - this debut novel is something the author should be so so proud of.
Fae kingdom versus faerie kingdom with a goddess twist, not to mention a fated lovers storyline. The spice doesn’t spice just for plot filler, it’s slow burn and when it finally happens it works. The other characters are fun and enjoyable to read. The world building is enthralling as is the duality of the kingdoms magic systems.
FMC starts off a bit annoying but hang in there you’ll be rewarded for your patience. MMC all I have to say is drool for goddess’s sake, the FMC says it best “for someone so tall and broad and handsome, he could at least do us all a favor and be clumsy.”
The 1 horse traveling is done exactly as a fantasy novel should be…I’ll just tease that part only no spoilers!!
So grateful to have had the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this novel.
Debut author HL Charlesworth has delivered an amazing first novel. A standalone romantasy that draws the reader in and keeps them entertained until the very end. I was so happy to be reading a standalone. I enjoy series a lot, but I’ve read so many with massive cliffhangers lately, it was much needed to have the story all tied up in one book. HL gives us romance, intrigue, amazing world building, and characters I dare you not to love.
Karea has gone through a trauma that has caused her to be sheltered from the world. A fae princess, who is naive, but the growth she goes through throughout the book is so worth the read. I love a FMC that grows into her own strength; realizing she was capable all along, just needed to be given the opportunity to rise to the occasion. Know that she is not who she starts out as and HL does not disappoint in delivering a strong, amazing FMC.
Auberon is a fae, warrior version of Mr. Darcy! The amount of swooning this character caused me to do…lord help me! He compliments Karea so well, but never doubts her abilities. He meets Karea at her lowest, but can’t deny the help she needs. Although they start out as enemies, the romance that HL cultivates between them is beautiful. I love a good enemies to lovers trope and this book delivers.
HL wrote a beautiful debut novel that I fully enjoyed. Not only do her main characters give amazing energy, her side characters are vital to the flow of the story and provide our MCs with needed companionship. I hope to see more from HL and more within this universe as well.
As always, review any author notes before reading.
Tropes: ⚔️Enemies to Lovers 👑Fated Mates ⚔️Found Family 👑Opposites Attract ⚔️Forced Proximity 👑Prophecy Ties
For a debut novel this was a great story filled with much loved tropes such as he falls first, touch him and die, and fated mates, but also had some unique takes on magic and the history behind the main characters creation. Bonus points that it's also a standalone novel so there are no major cliffhangers to worry about.
Shoutout to H.L. Charlesworth for giving Prince Auberon brown eyes! This was a minor detail but honestly made me enjoy him more because it's not as common in a lot of Romantasy. If you like the swaggering, muscular, borders on overly confident, warrior type, then Auberon definitely delivers on some of that, but overall his character is actually quite sweet and comes across quite innocent, minus the bits of spice sprinkled in.
Karea is a switch up from the usual FMC's you find in Romantasy. Admittedly, this kind of annoyed me at first because it felt like she had no real purpose that she took seriously and just lived a pampered life, but that's part of her growth and by the end she really came into who she was and her role. The tone of her inner monologue does feel a bit young which made some parts hard for me to connect with, but that's personal to me and may not detract from the story for another reader.
As many have mentioned, the last half of the book really ramps up and the ending comes kind of abruptly. I think an extra 100-200 pages of build up and breakdown of some of the major events would have been awesome, since there are some big moments and revelations to unpack. Regardless, the Epilogue is sweet and was a lovely way to end the story!
I was given the wonderful opportunity to be an ARC reader for this book. Bound By Starlight is my very first ARC so it will always be a very special book to me. As a first book for this author this story and how it was written was AMAZING! I will most likely be purchasing the published book! I absolutely love this story. I enjoyed Rea’s character development throughout the book. I found a bit of myself in her and Rea will always be a special character to me. I loved how Rea found her strength and became the Queen she was meant to be. I loved getting Rea’s pov for the first part of the book. It was a great way to get to know her character. I enjoyed the shift to the dual pov for the remainder of the book. I love getting both povs of the main characters and I liked that there was some overlap in the povs. You get to see the same scene through both main characters pov. I sobbed pretty consistently in the last chapters of this book. I became so fond of Rea and Bron and seeing their relationship grow. It’s going to be hard to leave them behind. I would definitely read an update about Rea, Bron and their little Starlight! I would without a doubt recommend this book! It’s a great feel good book with a good ending. I really enjoyed this as a break from some of the dark romance stories I had been reading. So if you’re looking for a lighthearted story this is it!

Okee, so Bound by Starlight is officially my new obsession. let me just say THIS. STORY. IS. EVERYTHING. 🖤✨
From the first page, I was hookedddd! Faeries, magic, betrayal, and an enemies-to-lovers romance that burns! this book hits all my favorite tropes.
Tropes You’ll Love: Enemies to Lovers 🗡️❤️ Fated Mates 🌌✨ Found Family 🫂 Opposites Attract~Light Princess Dark Prince🌞🌑 Prophecy Ties 🌀🖋️ Slow Burn with Spice 🔥 Battle of the Gods ⚔️👑
Karea is such a strong FMC. I just want to wrap her in a hug. She’s been through so much, but she still keeps fighting for her people. And don’t even get me started on Auberon (aka Bron). This dark, broody prince with a soft spot is hands down one of my new favorite MMCs. 🖤
The worldbuilding is so immersive and beautifully detailed.💗
This is one of those books where you look up and realize you’ve been binge reading for hours. The tension, the heartbreak, the redemption, and the romance all weave together so perfectly. And while the ending is tied up beautifully, I desperately hope H.L. Charlesworth revisits this world someday because I need more, plzzz 🫶🏻
If you love romantasy with magic, war, and a love story that will make your heart ache (in the best way), DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS BOOK. 💫
She’s the one with the one with wings in this tale. Twists and turns kept me on my toes as I read. Karea was sheltered as a princess but who comes into her own as she finds herself on a journey she never expected. Bron, the warrior prince, is fiercely loyal, protective and charming. There are side characters, including a cheeky horse, who add to the banter in the story. I love when the side characters mean just as much as the main characters. The story gripped me from the first chapter. The thing I love most about Karea is that she loves her people and will do what’s needed to help them even if she’s scared of what she needs to do. Bron is one of those MMCs who is completely swoon worthy: cinnamon roll with touch her and die vibes. This is a standalone book with an HEA after lots of twists, turns and secrets revealed. If I could take away one thing this book made me think of is that sometimes you just know the one for you when you meet them, regardless of what logic tries to dictate!
What a great first novel for this author!! This was very well written with unique world building. Obviously, this is a romantasy, but I never felt like the MFC's and MMC's relationship was the only thing we were reading about. There was a great plot along with their story. I really liked the character growth, not just for the main characters, but also for the side characters. I thought Rea and Bron complemented each other very well. I was also invested in how Leita's and Alvise's story turned out!
There are a lot of common tropes: 💗One Horse 💗Fated Mates 💗He Falls First 💗 Forced Proximity 🌶️1 💗Dual POV
This book was fast-paced and probably could have been extended and made into a series. I definitely would have kept reading! I would reread and recommend this book! Overall, it was a great standalone romantasy!
This is a terrific first novel! Heirs do not follow the oaths set out by society, and while trying to determine their own destinies, are caught by a fate set out for them centuries prior. Charlesworth weaves a world with dual paths of magic, goddesses who are stymied by their creations, and an inspired scheme to save a world on the edge of extinction due to greed…said scheme unfolding over hundreds of years. Karea and Auberon are the delightful and sometimes frustrating (because they get in their own way) main characters, and the supporting cast will also keep your attention. Spice creeps in when appropriate, and only adds to the plot. Bound by Starlight is well worth your time and I encourage you to buy it and keep it close to your heart.
“she began leaning into me for warmth. My heart began pounding. Goddess, every time she touched me it made me want to devour her whole.”
Another great romantasy! And it’s a standalone!
I really enjoyed this story, even though some aspects were predictable, it kept me engaged throughout. I enjoyed the fact that they grew from enemies to friends, then to lovers. Makes the romance more believable, in my opinion. All the side characters were super enjoyable! I also loved the “kingly” horse, Arion 😆 It does move with a fast paced timeline. I do feel like the ending was a bit rushed. But the epilogue made up for that 😊
💜 Dual POV 💗 He falls first 💜 Fated mates 💗 Touch Him and 💀 💜 Forced proximity
This was such a great debut novel! Bound by Starlight had me hooked right away, the pace a steady one with plenty of hills and valleys (metaphorically speaking). Auberon and Karea’s romance had me kicking my feet and giggling, gasping, and a couple times there were some expletives too. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was an easy read for me, and I can’t wait for the next book by this author. If you love fated mates, gods and goddesses, fae/faeries, found family (that will make you cry all the tears), and multiple types of magic, you’ll love this book! There’s court politics and plenty of danger too. Thank you HL Charlesworth for the gifted review copy!
I love Dual POVs and have been on a mission to read them all. I picked this book because of the amazing description but scrolled and saw only one POV in the first few chapters. It was by accident my finger slipped and I landed on the MMC POV. I then begin reading and I’m so glad I did.
This author does something that is super difficult. She develops well!!!! She took her time to build the world while building the story at the same time. She slowly intertwined character building and world building then later the climax and character development absolutely artfully!!! I highly recommend.
This book was amazing!! Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop! The plot is epic, the characters are lovable. There is nothing but amazingness in this book. I will never forget the tale of the young princess and Prince. The ending was everything I ever needed. I love a great story, but the endings that give you happiness and closure are the best! I would never guess that H.L. Charlesworth hasn’t published a hundred books, she wrote her debut as if she’s been publishing for years. I love this and have a new author to add to my favorites!
I was honored to be a critique partner for this story and it was amazing to see how far the writing came from day one until now! This story has all the best things for a fantasy romance lover & is sure to keep you flipping pages until the end! The main characters are hard not to love, each with their own hardened pasts that they must trust each other to unravel. My favorite part was definitely the sassy horse, if you know, you know. Quick read, but one that's sure to leave a lasting impression long after you've closed the book
I don’t really know what captivated me about this book. Conceptually, it was fantastic - the Goddess of Life and Death and their implications in the fae and faerie realms hit the mark. My issue with this book is the editing and writing style. Now I don’t know if this was because I read it on my kindle, but the amount of simple typos was appalling. “Now” instead of “not” and I stopped counting the number of character name typos. I get frustrated because this is the EASY stuff. Anyway, if that can be addressed and fixed I think it’s a really well-written first novel!
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I was trying to get out of a book slump from of a recent amazing read. I didn't want to start another series. At the beginning I was a little skeptical that she was going to be able to make this a standalone book without it feeling like it was rushed. I was wrong! What an incredible story. I felt really immersed in the world and like I could visualize everything. The plot twist had me gasping. The writing had me smiling. Overall extremely well done.
Bound by Starlight by H. L. Charlesworth has strong ACOTAR vibes while still feeling fresh and unique. The world is beautifully built, with rich history that draws you in from the start.
The two main characters are a standout -- their chemistry is engaging and REALLY easy to love. The story blends romance, adventure and just the right amount of spice without overdoing it. Honestly, a lovely read with a satisfying ending.
I enjoyed this so much. This was so unique. I was able to relate to the characters, and I fell in love with them.. there were twists and turns I didn't see coming. I love books with Fae and magic. I love that there was a dash of spice. The spice did not get in the way of the plot. I can't wait to see what happens next.
this story is a slow burn fated mates from light and dark fae and fairies kingdoms come together in an unusual way and end up working together to stop an evil from taking over one of the kingdoms and possibly the world. spice is 2ish/5. oh yeah did I mention there's basically a talking horse with attitude he's the best.
Great first novel for this author! Loved the story and the world. The development of the MFC was spot on. I wish she had fallen for the MMC sooner but with the development of the story it made sense.
