An abusive ex. A quick getaway to start over. A rich and debonair vampire who could be her chance at romance or a one-way ticket to a bad end.
Aurora needs out. She lives in terror of her abusive boyfriend, who controls her entire life. She vows to escape, and when she gets hired aboard a superyacht cruising the Mediterranean, it seems all her dreams have come true.
Especially when she finds herself drawn to the Lair’s reclusive and dazzlingly handsome owner, Adrian Voper. The only problem: the pale-skinned billionaire is as controlling as her ex, and when his female guests keep disappearing under mysterious circumstances, Aurora realizes he is concealing a nature far more monstrous than her former abuser’s.
Shaken and terrified, Aurora must now confront the reality of life with a vampire. The damaged parts of herself drawn to such abuse. And what, if anything, can free Adrian from his curse.
Give me a vampire story and I will read it...no problem there. Lair is a nice addition to the genre, serving up a story that gives you a strong female lead, a brooding billionaire who likes coming out only at night, and minor characters that go missing daily.
Did this feel a little like an adult version of Twilight? Yes, but I didn't mind, especially with a little Buffy the Vampire Slayer thrown in. Aurora gets a job as a stewardess on a yacht called Lair. All she knows is that the owner of the yacht is a secretive billionaire, Adrian, who prefers roses, blonds and firing people on the spot. But once she spends a little time there she begins to suspect that there is more to Adrian than meets the eye. Very soon after her first day their connection to each other deepens. But there are things about being with a vampire that Aurora can't live with and things quickly go south.
There was a lot being thrown at me but not enough time to delve into it all. I felt like I was being told to read it and read it quickly. I needed more about Aurora and definitely more time to have the romance develop before the two profess their love for each other. However, the story itself is clever and I liked the way Sullivan writes. I didn't put the story down so that tells me I was invested. There are two more books in this series that takes the two MCs and their relationship further but this one is great all on it's own as well.
Adrian & Aurora: This Series is Off to a Good Start! 5 Stars
This book was simply awesome. If you are a sucker for a beautiful, vampire romance, you need to buy this book right now!
LAIR is the story of a young woman named Aurora who is currently in a very abusive relationship. Finally deciding she's had enough of the emotional, verbal, and physical mistreatment, Aurora escapes with the help of her friend and heads to Florida where she begins work as a day-hire crew member cleaning the luxurious yachts of the obscenely rich.
While at work, Aurora receives a call for a job interview as a stewardess aboard the LAIR, the yacht belonging to the mysterious, illusive, multi-billionaire, Adrian Voper. With the opportunity too good to resist, Aurora heads overseas to join the crew of Voper's yacht and slowly finds herself intrigued and drawn to the brooding, albeit OCD tycoon. Adrian is equally intrigued by Aurora's odd quirkiness and despite his best efforts to put distance between them, cannot deny his attraction. However, the further out to sea they travel, the more bizarre secrets become revealed. Soon, Aurora begins to wonder if she didn't escape her past trauma but simply exchanged it for a new one.
This book had me within the first three chapters! I instantly felt a connection to Aurora and applauded her decision to flee from her abuser. I felt Adrian Voper's commanding presence the minute he stepped on page. The chemistry that existed between Adrian and Aurora was electric. Not only did they connect in spirit, but the pair connected through painful pasts. Adrian gave Aurora the safety she needed, and Aurora gave Adrian the closure he needed. Brilliantly, they poured into one another, and I love how they were the remedy for each other's grief. By the book's end, you will see just how much these two love each other and the lengths they will go to make each other happy.
Author, David Sullivan did an amazing job of breathing life into these two complex characters. Although both characters were on different ends of the financial spectrum, I'm so glad that this wasn't made the basis of their conflict; A typical storyline fail-safe I'm so glad this author avoided. It was a pleasant surprise and a relief. Instead, the focus was on a much deeper conflict that kept my attention. Honestly, I could not put it book down. I finished it within a day!
The story contains some spice between the main couple but nothing hardcore. I didn't mind because the plot and storyline were engaging enough that I barely noticed. LAIR doesn't necessarily end with a cliffy, rather an HFN. The story does continue I cannot wait to read LAIR RISING, book two where the story leads off into another chapter of Adrian and Aurora's quest for a life together.
I thought this was an excellent debut novel and I recommend it without reservation. If you're looking for a book with a sweet heroine and tortured vampire to root for, you've found it right here!
Great book. Not much to say without spoiling the book. This book is about the yachting community and what happens daily in their lives. But this has a twist to it. I love aurora and Adrian. Aurora started off the book living with her boyfriend but she wanted to leave so she did while he was sleeping. Her friend Cailee was waiting for her so she could leave. You found out later on why she wanted to leave. Great book. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
HOLY SHIT! This book was all Consuming from the moment you pick It up the very end! If you are a fan Of Buffy then this series is for you. The journey that Arie and Adrian take To find love is one full of mystery, fear, Anger and thrills. This PNR is simply Amazing and I can’t get enough of It! Now leave me alone so I can get the Next one and devour it!
Lair by David Sullivan is a billionaire vampire romance set on a superyacht that travels the seas.
The story begins with a retelling of female lead Aurora’s story of how she finally finds the strength to leave her abuser Josh with the help of her friend Cailee. They make their way to Florida with a plan to work as yachties to meet rich men.
When Aurora finds herself working aboard a superyacht called Lair for billionaire Adrian Voper, she discovers that strange things are happening. Fleeing from abuse once has her on edge and when she finds out the truth she has to decide if she’ll stay or if she’ll leave.
I loved reading Lair so much that I read it through to the end in just a couple of sittings. The slow burn was full of tension that kept me wondering when they would finally come together. The superyacht was described in such a way that I could easily picture each scene as the story played out in my mind. Towards the end I did find myself wondering who she would choose and was surprised in the end by her declaration.
I very much look forward to the next book in this series, Lair Rising.
This was an Good Book. I never read, this author, before. It been a while since I read a book like this. This book is about a vampire. With romance , a companion of thrillers and fantasy. Love the plot and these characters. Will definitely read more of his books.
This book was so so good! Single POV from FMC, she’s traumatized and has been through the ringer, he’s a vampire with a sad past, can they come together or will her minds idea of right and wrong split them forever?
Aurora is strong but has been broken before, in this story you watch her evolve into a survivor! Adrian is a vampire who witnessed something horrendous and mourns that every day, but with our lovely aurora you watch him blossom into more than just his grief 🩵💕
The idea of the book is very good, it captured my attention until the main female character spoiled my desire to continue reading. Very annoying and selfish and suddenly Buffy who wants to kill an ancient vampire.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
OMG. Vampires and yatchies. I love it. I watch Below Deck on TV and when D V Sullivan asked if I was interested in reading a copy of Lair, I dove right in. I can see why he thought of yatchs as a setting, seeing he has been a yatchie himself. What an original idea.
Aurora runs from an abusive boyfriend, running right into the arms of a billionaire vampire. I have never read about vampires on yatchs and I love what D V Sullivan has done with them. Of course, he has a steady supply of blood, seeing his employees are handy and easily disposed of. Can a vampire fall if love with a human? Can Aurora fall in love with Adrian?
Aurora coaxes Adrian into trying to cure his curse and I sure didn’t see the outcome. I am really curious about the future books in the series.
Hot Damn! This book gabbed me and refused to let me go till I finished it. From the second I picked it up and read the first page, it was all I could think about, and all I wanted to do was read this book and learn more and just figure ever nuance out.
If you loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then you will love this series. I couldn't believe the journey that Arie and Adrian go on to find love. It's full of myster, fear, anger, and thrills.
I am not going to say much about this book. Not about the characters, about the plot, sub-plots, or the storyline. I am going to leave my normal style of reviews alone. I don't want to spoil this book. But, I do have a few tidbits that I will give you, a few drops of blood.
It starts with the day to day of a yachting community. Adrian has this aura. So complex. Aurora started off living with her boyfriend but decided otherwise, so while he was sleeping, she leaves. Cailee, Aurora's friend, was waiting for her so they could leave together. You'll find out later why they really want to leave. That's it. Those are all the blood droplets I am going to give you. You need to go and read Lair to figure it all out for yourself. Now, as book two is already out and ready for me to read. I am going to go and read it and learn even more, so excuse me. I am off to read. (I already did, but that is not for this review. hehe.)
From the beginning of this book I know I would love it. The way this writer writes is amazing ,and he sucked you right in.
You have Aurora that needs to get away from her abusive boyfriend Josh and she will do anything to do that. Her long time friend cailee takes the chance and does so. She picks he up in the middle of the night after Aurora drugged him and the dog with sleeping pills. Yes the dog is abusive to her as well. ( This author gives great details) They barely get into the truck before caught and off they go. To Florida. Where she starts her new life as a worker on billionaire yachts. But something is strange about these boats and she can't put her fingers on it. Until she meets her new boss and starts to hear things....
The whole time the past still hunts her and I love how he switched back and forth and still added the ex into the story. I am sure a lot of women can relate to that part. I know I can.
I went into this book completely blind and when I found out it was about vampires I was so excited. I think going into this one blind, I enjoyed it so much more. The whole time I was trying to guess what happened and I loved it. If you know me, I completely love monsters ... Movies, books, anything really and this book completely does it for you. It's fast paced and has so much drama I couldn't really put it down to tell you the truth.
The details in this book makes it just as interesting too. Why all the girls on the boat have blonde hair, why no one sees the new boss all day until might. And it goes on and on and on! This book leaves you wanting more and can't wait to start the next books and see what happens
Such a fun read! I’ll try not to give spoilers here… From the very beginning, this book held me in its grasp. We met Aurora when she’s fleeing her abusive relationship. Her friend picks her up and helps her move across the country to start a new life in the yachting business. Fairly quickly, it seems, she gets invited to interview at a prestigious yachting company, which we as readers know is owned by the billionaire vampire. Things happen on the yacht that give Aurora pause, but she overlooks them as the billionaire’s quirkiness. She ends up finding out that he’s a vampire, blaming herself for not seeing it, trying to change him, running away, etc. If you want to find out what happens, you’ll need to read it for yourself! Be aware that there is some talk of DV in this book and a little bit of victim shaming (not shaming in the sense that it’s her fault, but getting her to recognize the traits in herself that could attract her to an abusive partner and vice versa, patterns of behavior, etc). Overall, this book was everything I’d hoped for after reading the description! As a reader who knew about the vampire on the boat, I was screaming at her to see what he was! And then screaming at her for the choices she was making after she found out! I thought I knew where the plot was heading, but then it flipped, and then it flipped again! I have a pretty good idea of what the end game is here, and I’m looking forward to reading all the twists and turns to get there! I’m so glad that we don’t have to wait too long for the next book, which is supposed to come out in less than a month!
2024 is my year of reading more vampire romance books!!
Im a big PNR fan but tend not to gravitate towards the vampire side of things however this book has more than sold me, I think the last vampire book I loved and haven't been able to stop thinking about is twilight, and if you enjoyed that book as much as me then you need to pick this up asap because its basically the same but this one is on a yacht and a bit more spicier.
From the start we meet Aurora a girl who hasn't had the best past who has decided to take a stand for herself and start working on a luxury yacht as a way to escape her previous life. In walks the handsome and rich Adrian who has a shroud of mystery around him. These two had tension right off the bat and the chemistry between them was so well written that I was caught up in these two characters from the start.
David took his time crafting this story, every scene and character was so well portrayed and thought out that at times I felt like I was living on the yacht with them and what a life to live!!!! if you're looking for your next soul sucking read filled with amazing characters and a plot that will keep you turning pages from the first chapter you need to pick this book up!!
This is a great novel with a disturbing take on vampires. They are all rich billionaires enjoying the super-yacht life and picking up wannabe supermodels and feeding on them. Short of that, they hire temporary boat crews who serve up a tasty snack at the end of their shifts. It’s brutal. And it’s highly troubling. And our heroine, freshly escaped from an abusive relationship, seems destined to be on the menu, except…
She catches the billionaire vampire’s eye and interests him in something more than feeding for the very first time in decades. On the one hand, there is a nice little romance coming, but the reader has figured out the billionaire’s secret and we all know this isn’t going to end well—especially when our heroine finds out that vampires are real and her beau is one of them.
There’s a nicely developed moral quandary as the reader works toward one of two seemingly inevitable endings—either one more or one less vampire inhabiting the world. I loved the way Sullivan brings us toward the conclusion and I found his solution to the heroine’s dilemma absolutely satisfying.
David is a new author to me, I wasn't sure what I was going into, as I like to go in blind and be surprised, and surprised I was. I loved it, I couldn't put it down, page after page I wanted to find out more. I just couldn't get enough of them and their story.
Aurora has been through so much, she's broken beyond repair or is she? She escapes and applies for a job with a yachting company. We get to witness her growth, becoming stronger and all round a bada** women.
Adrian is a billionaire vampire and is the owner of said yachting company. He's been through alot and seen alot and still to this day is haunted by things. He's mysterious and handsome. The attention between are two main characters is something else. Their chemistry is fire. She sparks something In our vampire that he hasn't felt in a very long time. But things ain't plain sailing. Grab the book to find out more..
It's a rollercoaster ride that has you sitting on the edge of your seat that's for sure. The author went all out in this one, it was wonderfully written, the characters are great and it's filled with so much mystery, spice and more. I can't wait to read more by this author. I was so lost in the world off these two, you will be to. Highly recommend.
This book checked all the boxes for me tortured vampire, unsuspecting girl, romance, exotic setting, and heat.
When I first downloaded this book I thought it would be a really short story and only be a few pages. However, I was pleasantly surprised to get an entire book. It was a quick read for me as I could not put it down.
When we first meet Aurora she is a victim of abuse. She has little self-confidence and is pretty scared. But soon we see the real Auroa emerge and it is with the help of Adrain. I loved watching Aurora blossom and grow. It was so nice seeing her go from victim to self-assured woman.
Adrain was everything I wanted. Handsome, tortured, and rich. He checked all the boxes for me for being the vampire lead in this story. It was fun watching him come to life under Aurora's presence. I also enjoyed it when he made little jabs at the other models who weren't so nice.
Overall a wonderfully written story. It has everything I wanted and more. It kept my internet, had a great storyline, and had the right amount of heat.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I have a real soft spot for stories including Vampires, I absolutely adore them. So when D.V. reached out with the premise of their story, I knew I had to give it a read.
This was a really good first instalment and intro to the series. Although the stakes didn’t feel too high, D.V. successfully introduced the world and its nuances; we meet our 2 main characters and get an understanding of their backstories; and we also see how the series will progress in the next book.
I’ve always had an itch to learn more about being a yachtie (something sounds so cool about the ‘living out at sea’ vibes and working on a boat - but not something I think my stomach would permit IRL)
One thing I would have loved a little more was a bit more exploration to Aurora’s previous relationship with her ex, and a little more of the getting to know stage of the MCs once they met/interacted.
Other than that, I really enjoyed this story and I’m very much looking forward to the next book!
Aurora has had enough of her abusive boyfriend and summons the courage to leave him with the help of her best friend Cailee. Fleeing in the middle of the night, the two women head to Florida hoping to become yachties and meet rich men. Aurora receives a call to interview for a position on Lair, the superyacht owned by the mysterious billionaire Adrian Voper. After accepting the steward position, she quickly learns that difficult guests are the least of her concerns. She and Adrian seem drawn to each other, but can she embrace his violent world?
I’m not going to lie-Lair is my first vampire read. Now I’m wondering why it’s taken me so long to jump into the world of vampire romances. D.V. Sullivan has created an intriguing world where billionaire vampires live on superyachts, traveling the seas to conceal their true nature. I highly recommend Lair to fans of romance with a supernatural twist. It’s a great start to the Lair series!
The first chapter set a very good background on the female lead’s backstory moving forward. It gives a sense of what she’d been through and her thought processes. In the beginning, she did come off very endearingly. However as the book progresses, there was a bit of cognitive dissonance in her general mental state and I started to wonder if it was her PTSD acting up. That aside, the storyline was interesting enough with quite a bit of plot twist towards the end. That itself deserved the 4-star rating I am giving this book. Warning- the last chapter read like a revamp of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (for those old enough to have watched the series), so if that’s up your alley, the follow up books (hinted by the author at the end) would be a reliving of your teenage-vampire-slaying-fanfare moments!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Bring on book 2!!! Lair by D.V. Sullivan was well written, has MCs you can’t help but root for, and keeps you hooked wanting to know what happens next! Aurora is a victim trying to overcome past trauma. Only to question if she’s setting herself up for a situation similar to the last. When she’s invited to interview for a stewardess position aboard the Lair, she has no idea what the future holds in the yachting community, or surrounded by hotties. Mysterious billionaire Adrian is a mysterious playboy, set on a life of extravagance and runway blondes to dull his past… until he meets Aurora. Despite the icy beginning of their acquaintance, Aurora and Adrian are drawn to each other in an otherworldly way, senses crackling with unspoken desires. But will they heal or destroy each other in the process…?! If you’re a fan of paranormal romance with a hint of Buffy action, I highly recommend! Finishing on a cliffhanger, I can’t wait to see where this story goes! 4.5 ⭐️ 2 🌶️
Whether you are into romance, thrillers or fantasy, this book offers a taste of all three. You feel drawn to each character and their history, all of them almost fated to meet. As you follow Aurora on her efforts to run from cycles of abuse, each interaction feels familiar yet new and promising. She finds an escape among the world of yachts, passionate characters, and dark secrets meant to be revealed. Not only is the yachting industry a novel and creative way of building a world for the characters to develop, the lore and backstories leave you hungry for more. I highly recommend this book for anyone who feel characters and effective plot development are integral to storytelling. Will be following closely for the sequels release!
This is the first book I have read from this author and I didn’t know what to expect. This is a mysterious, spicy, nautical story and I absolutely devoured it! Im so glad that this is a series (trilogy) because I absolutely need more.
After finally getting out of a DV situation, Aurora finds herself working for a mysterious nocturnal billionaire on his yacht. I have so many questions about what is to come with them!
Well done David! Well done!!! I had all of the feels in this book and I am obsessed!
Please note, this book does have a few TW so please note them before reading!
“Pain seeks pain, after all. All it wants is to be understood.”
Vampire on yachts! I knew this one was going to be good based on that fact alone, and I was not disappointed. Aurora finds herself aboard a superyacht owned by a reclusive billionaire of a man. Adrian is an enigma and becomes wholeheartedly captivated by Aurora's willingness to survive. They are an example odlf when opposites attract but are also united by their traumatic pasts. I loved how they learned to confide in each other enough to get past the hurdles. I also rather enjoyed that first mate learning the hard way that Adrian doesn't share. We love some vengeance unaliving for our girl. The ending has me running to the second book in the series because Aurora's plan has definitely got me hooked! I'm ready to see them pull this off!
I received this novel as a ARC and I have to admit this has been one of my favorite novels so far. The story of Aurora escaping an abusive relationship. She is whisked to the Mediterranean where is employed to work on a yacht. There she meets Adrian the owner he is very reclusive loves to be in control and he is himself is controlling. This novel has it all Vampires and drama and suspense a bit of fantasy and romance and thriller. I enjoyed this novel very much. And has you wondering the ending that when you get to it you won’t be disappointed. I want to Thank the Author for the copy and I am leaving a review voluntarily. Excellent novel. Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book is perfect for a summer beach read! The female main character is learning to stand up for herself after leaving an abusive ex and ends up on a boat with a vampire. The main female gives me Buffy vibes and the main male gives me Angel vibes(IYKYK.) but they are rich and on a yacht. I really like this book and it definitely looks like there will be another. Based on the title, I thought this book was going to be a lot darker than what it was, but maybe it's just the books I've been reading lately.
As far as spice, I give it 🌶️🌶️ there are a few scenes, some behind doors.
Are you into romance, thrillers or fantasy? This book has all three! Vampires are real but they're all billionaires and live on mega-massive yachts ! This is the first time I've seen the yachting industry used as a setting. I really enjoyed it. The characters were fun to meet, each had interesting back histories. The female main character, Aurora OR Arie as her friends call her, is learning to stand up for herself after leaving a very abusive ex. Seeing her overcome the mental abuse she lived thru was refreshingly real. The male main character, Adrian, has a past that is heart-breaking. There is some spice, but this book is a slow burn romance. I enjoyed it & will definetly read the second book soon!
I want to start off by saying that Lair is my first book by author David Sullivan. I opened this book and as soon as I started reading it, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to put it down. This book is so effing good! It’s a billionaire vampire romance that will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time you’re reading it. There is mystery, romance spice, mean girls, and a bad to the bone FMC. I cannot wait for more!
As always be mindful of trigger warnings, what I like you may not.
