I loved this book! It was dark and thrilling and i didn’t know where this book was going. I was hooked from page 1! The dog on the cover is what got me. I had been in a reading slump before this and this book was perfect to pull me out!
I think this is a series- I’m hopeful it is because I want more from these characters.
The author is talented and I can’t wait to read more from her!

Bridgette Ampersand is an eye doctor working inside a Target store clinic. She is good hearted but is full of self-loathing. She also has a gift that allows her to see peoples' thoughts. Into her life returns her childhood best friend, Caleb. He's handsome, rich from an app he created and sold, and now a cop. He has sought her out to ask for help on a case that seems unsolvable. He hopes with her gift that she can find the truth of what is happening by meeting with the people possibly involved. He also wants to go back to the way things were when he and Bridgette were kids, but when he and his family moved away during high school, he never kept in touch, breaking Bridgette's heart. She now has a love/hate relationship with him.
Bridgette is one of those characters I am SOO sick of, the character who fights any good thing coming her way because she believes she doesn't deserve it. The only thing she truly loves is a 15 year German Shepherd she saved from a dog fighting ring when he was a puppy.
She wants Caleb and lets him go so far sexually and romantically before pulling back, then she goes back to teasing him. She deliberately insults him while loving him.
The case Caleb has asked her to help him with becomes dangerous and sucks Bridgette into danger. Someone is murdering people and leaving clues for her to find.
While readers DO discover who the killer is, and why, the story isn't finished. Book 2, which I will NOT be reading, continues the story. But the story is depressing, Bridgette is whiny and annoying and I could barely force myself to finish. The writing is great and the mystery is vicious and intriguing. I just don't want anything more to do with her.

I was a beta reader for this book, and I have to say OMG! EN Crane draws you in from the first sentence, and keeps you there. I found myself emotionally invested in the characters. I found myself continuing to read, even when I was supposed to be making dinner, just to see what was going to happen next. I liked the relationship between the two main characters, but it was a little heartbreaking that she couldn’t forgive him for things he had no control over, because he was a kid. I’m hoping there are more books coming so I can find out what happens between them. A definite addition to the TOP of your TBR pile.

A tense paranormal thriller packed with twists and action, 'Without Intention' shows us how the mistakes of the past can rip our futures apart. Bridgette Ampersand really wants a quiet life as an optometrist, but she can't resist using her mind-reading abilities to help others. Escaping by the skin of her teeth from life-threatening situations, she ignores all the warning signs that tell her she's going to get hurt. When her unreliable ex-schoolmate Caleb enlists her help in solving a series of murders, he is not part of the solution...

Emotional Story

Oh boy. I hardly know what to say about this book. Emotionally, this story took me up and down and down still further. By the end I was in tears. While the feelings and thoughts it provoked made this a difficult book to read, I would read it again and, probably, again. I've already read the last chapters twice. I just have to read the next book in the series to find out what happens to all these wonderful, diverse and broken characters.
