After her bakery went up in flames, Maura left her homeland, Beitar, behind for the shores of the Vaporiad Sea. Though the locals warned her of the vicious sirens that made that coastline uninhabitable, she doesn’t take their warnings seriously... until an unfortunate slip sends her tumbling into the brutal, icy waves.
Siren prince Anatolius never quite fit into the role his fathers expected of him. Though he is meant to spend his days monitoring the northeastern coast, he finds himself watching the curious human he discovered inhabiting the old fisherman's cottage. Watching her is the highlight of his day, until one afternoon he sees her fall into the unforgiving sea. He rushes to her aid, determined to get her out before the other sirens find her and punish her for entering their territory, only to find her as… an otter.
To keep Maura from facing the wrath of the other sirens, Anatolius claims she is his bride-to-be. The two must work together to navigate the delicate situation in the siren court and get Maura back home alive.
The Siren & The Sea is a standalone novelette set in the world of Domhan na Rùin. The three books in the series can be read in any order.
I love me some siren romance! Maura left her home after her bakery went up in flames, and is now living isolated in a siren territory. Unfortunately, she fell down in a cliff and shifted into an otter. What makes matter worst, she was captured by a prince siren, Anatolius. However, it seems they needed to perpetuate a ruse as to not get Maura killed and that means they are engaged.
Oh wow, it was very quick and fast-paced that we dove right into the story. Very easy to follow along, and there’s some fantasy elements but you don’t need to use your brain cells to read it.
I love the story, and wished it’s longer but honestly, it was great on its own. We saw their tentative alliance and how overtime developed feelings for each other. It was great to see! This book is short, sweet and spicy!
Eek!!! I absolutely adored The Siren & The Sea!! This was my first read from Emma Elizabeth and she did not disappoint!! She has done an amazing job building the world of Domhan na Rùin. I just fell completely in love with her storytelling and the novella’s main characters; Maura and Anatolius! The Siren & The Sea is an incredibly sweet, swoon-worthy romance full of magic. Ana and Maura’s journey is filled with super cute otter & siren swims, fake courting, fated mates, sweet love and a bit of spice with twice the fun! 😘 I’m really hoping to visit Maura & Anatolius in another Domhan na Rùin novella. You can also read about more magical romances from this world in The Songbird & The Forest and in The Lion & The Thief✨
THIS WAS SO GOOD I WAS KICKING MY FEET THE WHOLE TIME!!
I was completely taken by both Maura and Anatolius. Maura, the feisty otter shifter she is, completely captured me. The atmosphere of this book is unreal and it’s done so masterfully in such a short amount of time! The cabin by the sea to the city under the ocean, it was all just so wonderful.
I absolutely fell in love with Anatolius. His patience, kindness, and overall just personality was so warm. He’s like a nice cup of earl grey tea ☕️ I JUST LOVE HIMMMMM

The Siren & The Sea was a magical read! It was so swoon worthy and sweet and the author did such an amazing job building the world while keeping the book short. I fell in love with the characters, and Emma made them memorable for me. I read so many books that it’s easy to forget characters in books over time. But Maura and Ana are such a beautiful couple. The spice was nice! I was not expecting him to have 2 of them. This was my first Emma Elizabeth book, and won’t be the last!
This novella was the perfect little edition into the world of Domhan na Rùin. We follow the story of Maura the otter shifter and Anatolius, a siren prince as Maura literally falls into his life unexpectedly. The story was short, and sweet with a sprinkle of spice. Although there was an underlying reason for the entire story happening, the story itself still felt pretty low stakes, which was perfect. If you're looking for a quick, under 100 page novella to break up your reading I 100000% recommend this one. I devoured it in a night and loved every second. 🩷 If you have read and liked Emma Elizabeth's other works then this will be for you.
Love love love this book. It's fast, very fast, but really fun to read. Maura and Anatolius meet in a 'not so perfect' way, and have to work together to keep each other alive. Love being able to read more into this world that Emma has created. It's great world building.
I had the privilege of ARC reading The Siren & the Sea, book three in the Creatures of Domhan na Rùin series and I am here to tell you that if you are not hip to Emma Elizabeth and this series that you are missing out.
Emma beautifully weaves fantastical settings in the queer normative world of our dreams in a unique way that is both inspiring and breathtaking. Honestly, these stories pack so much emotion into a novella sized book it’s a wonder how she does it. And they’re funny and spicy to boot!
This particular tale has two pansexual MCs, which is close to my heart, who are forced into a fake engagement to protect the FMC from harm. It also gives forced proximity, he falls first and grumpy x sunshine where she is the grump. I don’t know why the FMC being the grump hits as hard as it does but I am feral for how feisty she is. Follow along as these crazy kids navigate their fake relationship as real feelings begin to bloom. It’s a short, sweet and spicy read that you will be able to devour in one sitting. All three novellas are interconnected standalones and can be read in any order. Just make sure you read all three because I literally cannot pick a favorite.
What a sweet little shifter novella! It was my introduction to Emma Elizabeth, and now I'm obsessed and want to read all of her books!
I loved this story and devoured it in one go! You can't go wrong with fated mates with a side of fake engagement and close proximity. I adored Anatolius. He was sweet, respectful, and devoted, even before realizing the depth of his feelings for Maura. Maura was understandably skittish, but being her feisty self, she didn't let the whole situation bring her down, and was ready to take action into her own hands when needed.
It was a great story, I liked everything about it! I recommend it if you enjoy monster/shifter romance, fated mates, fake dating, with a dash of spice and special peens.
Thank you Emma for the opportunity to read and review this book!
This was such an amazing edition to the Domhan na Ruin Universe! I always find Emma Elizabeth’s short stories in this series to be refreshing and adorable. This one follows one of the shifters, which you can learn more about in Mistress of Hours, and a Siren who should kill her but only wants to protect her. This book has fake dating, fake engagement, telepathic speaking, magical shifting, magic dire powers and Lush scenery throughout the whole book.
It also has sexual tension, growing connections, mate bonds and sire anatomy all monster romance readers love! I think it’s a great quick read that enhances the series as a whole with a great plot, steamy spice adorable characters and an HEA!

Loving all of these short novellas and novelettes from Emma. My brain hasn't been braining lately - so these have been the perfect length and they hold my attention because the writing style is just so lovely. I wasn't expecting some of the story bits in this one - I won't spoil anything, you will just have to find out for yourself. But there were a couple of spots in the narrative that put a big grin on my face.
Honestly, this would be the best little story for Mermay. If you're reading this in the future, preferably May, then definitely pick it up.
I truly believe one of Emma's strengths is world building, and I love this little fantasy realm she's created here.
I ARC read this, but I'm going to pick up a copy whenever there's a paperback available.
Wow! I devoured this in one sitting. This story is the meat and potatoes of a fated mates story - all those delicious scenes and tension in one swoop. The writing style made it really easy to imagine what the main characters were seeing and doing, and there were some awesome siren aspects that Emma did a great job describing. If you want something quick, zesty and unique, this is it! It'll satisfy that craving you get sometimes when you just want the heart of a story right away. I thought it was the perfect length of short and sweet, while still connecting you to the characters and their internal struggles. Loved it!
This was such a sweet little addition to the Domhan na Rùin universe! Once I started, there was no putting it down. Emma's writing never fails to transport me right into the story, and Anatolius and Maura's story just might be my favorite so far! After a tumble sends Maura falling off a cliff and into Anatolius's life, they have moments to come up with a plan to keep Maura safe from the rest of the sirens. But, as fate would have it. Nothing goes according to plan. Their story is so sweet, thrilling, with just the right amount of spice. Now, someone point me in the direction of the Vaporiad Sea. I have a siren to find... for reasons... 😏
Expect: 🦦 One fisty otter 🐚 Fake engagement 🦦 Double the fun 🐚 Croissants 🦦 Old friends
Double mer-male appendages? Check ✅ And a shifting lady-otter than can knot? Yes please ✅
Okay so have you ever thought “hmm… I think I got a hankerin’ for a fake dating/fake mate type of short story”? Yes? Cool.
And does your specific thought get even more specific with the following? “Hmm.. fake dating/fake mating short story but he’s a merman with surprise anatomy and she’s a shifter than can knot”? Regardless if it’s a yes or no, I personally don’t think you should skip this one. Lol! 🤭
Honestly I can’t get enough of Emma’s little stories and can’t wait to read about other creatures in Domhan na Rùin!
Emma Elizabeth delivers another gem with The Siren & The Sea, a short, sweet, and delightfully spicy novella, brimming with rich character development. The fated connection between Maura and Anatolius is electric, filled with tender moments and an irresistible tension that hooks you from the first page. Elizabeth’s vivid writing brings to life a unique siren lore and a beautifully atmospheric coastal setting. For anyone in search of a short cozy romance that’s both heartwarming and steamy, this story is sure to enchant!
*I was given an ARC copy by the author, all opinions are my own.
This was a cute and quick read taking us back into the world of Domhan na Rùin. We get a look into the Vaporiad Sea and the sirens who live below the sea! Maura falling into the sea and turning into an otter was only just the beginning! From fake dating to getting frisky in the water this was filled with magic, spice and cozy vibes! I do have to say I wish this was longer because I was wanting more from these characters and of course the spice, definitely double to fun! But it was a great addition to a look into the world and we even got a name drop cameo!
This was such a sweet novella to read. It wasn’t rushed and flowed so well from start to end. Anatolius was such a green flag and genuinely cared for Maura. I loved Maura’s feistiness just as much as Ana did. I don’t want to spoil anything but this was a great read! . One of my fav quotes: “My love for you Maura, is as vast and enduring as the sea itself. My soul is yours until the very oceans run dry.”
This story was so cozy and cute! Its as such a fun read to see two different species who were not meant to be but happen to 'fall' together and be destined!
Ana was the sweetest siren and was always considerate!
Emma is an amazing story teller that really transport you into her stories and makes you feel as though you can see and feel everything she writes!
Thank you Emma for the advanced copy I cannot wait to read more!
Such an amazing short story. I'm absolutely loving this series. The books are short but still amazing! Anatolius and Maura meet when Maura falls into the sea. The story is showing their relationship and how it forms! Anatolius is a siren an Maura shifts into a otter. I would definitely recommended this book to any person who likes a monster/paranormal romance.
Such a fun little Novella! I highly enjoyed this! I left me wanting to know a lot more about Maura and Anatolia. Need a palate cleanser? Or only have a short time to read something, like waiting at the Doctors office? Then this is the perfect little novella. It’s short, sweet and has some fun anatomy!!
Quick, short novella but somehow still had wonderful world building. Loved all the characters (well not the guards). I got sucked into this right away and loved every moment. I only wish for more of this world Emma created and to spend more time in it...and maybe an Anatolius of my own.
Spicy, male female, third person point of view, paranormal (otter shifter/siren) romance. I flew through this novella and wish it were longer. Though it was short it packed a decent amount of world building and the fated mate aspect felt totally organic. I enjoyed this author's writing style and will definitely be reading more of their work. A cozy fun read with a happy ending.
This novella is small, but mighty. Packed full of adventure, building anticipation, and love The Siren & The Sea is such a delight. Also, there are sweet Easter eggs to some of Emma's other published works. I love this world she's building and I cannot wait for the next installment!
Well, this was just adorable - like a warm hug by the fire of fantasy. And while I could have definitely read a lot more of this particular love story, I appreciated the short and snappy novella form all the same. In and out with a smile on your face. No pun intended.
Una historia corta y amena, con una pareja muy mona que hace que la lectura sea ligera y encantadora. No me atrapó tanto como otras de la autora, pero mantiene ese mismo encanto tierno que la caracteriza.
