Elemental wolf-shifters rule the Seven Isles, but revolution is in the air. There is no tolerance for a love affair between humans and wolves, but that hasn't stopped Adriana, a human slave born in captivity, and Destin, an Oceanborn wolf of the royal fleet, from finding love and meaning in each other's arms. When their tyrant Fireborn queen compels the two on separate paths, the pair and those they love must find a way to ignite revolution and survive the tides of the war that follows.
D. Brumbley is a husband/wife duo from Kansas City who spend most of their time in each other’s heads. In suburbia the duo lives in a simple house with a dog and two feisty kiddos.
One half of the duo loves football, baseball, libraries, and romance.
The other half of the duo likes D&D, Fantasy novels, Marvel Comics, and cheesecake.
A country girl and an east coast boy met online, became best friends, fell in love, and somewhere along the way decided that telling stories together would be fun.
Werewolves, each with unique control over one of ten elements, vying for control over an ocean archipelago while also dealing with their own interpersonal drama, including the relationship between the 'wolves' and the humans who live alongside them as slaves. I love this world, actually better than the modern-Earth Ironborn Cycle. The conflict between the different factions is compelling both on a political scale and on an interpersonal one. There were so many fascinating relationships and personal journeys playing out all within the wider action.
The character development was on point. Trying not to get too spoilery, there was at least one character I started the book despising only to begin to root for them by the end. One of the romantic parings had such incredible chemistry that every time I got to one of their scenes, even if it wasn't a romantic one, I was super hyped.
All in all, I'm going to need the author to hurry up and put out the next book because I need to know what happens next.
