Dragons and distilleries, secrets and danger, Drake McAllister's return to Kodiak Island is anything but peaceful. As the new alpha of the Northern Lights Dragon Clan, he must uncover the truth behind his father's mysterious death. But when he crosses paths with Megan Reeves, a charming bourbon enthusiast with a hidden agenda, their mutual suspicions ignite a sizzling tension.

Undercover ATF agent Megan Reeves is on a mission to dismantle a sophisticated smuggling ring operating out of the McAllister family distillery. Forced to rely on each other, Drake and Megan form a precarious alliance, navigating a world of betrayal, hidden identities, and dangerous adversaries. Their growing attraction becomes impossible to ignore, but trust is a luxury neither can afford.

She's an undercover ATF agent looking for clues to a smuggling operation. He's the new leader of his clan and an ex commander, Navy. His clans distillery is in the cross hairs. Can they figure out who it is before it's too late. I'm loving this series more and more.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
🌶️🌶️🌶️

I was so excited for this book having read a previous book in this series, not to mention I’m a sucker for a good fated mates book. This was book 7 in Delta James’s Alaskan Tails series. The book was good, however it seemed a little rushed. The book details show that it’s 108 pages, but it in fact is only 98 pages. The rest of the pages are lists of her other books.

The Plot:
The story had a great plot. Father is murdered. Who done it type of plot. I’m in!

The Spice:
I gave it 3 peppers because yes, it was totally spicy. I didn't give a higher rating because even though the mates were fated, I feel as though there could have been way more angst and push back.

The Characters:
Loved the characters. We have a strong FMC who isn’t afraid to stand up for herself. Then we have the dominant MC who won't take no for an answer once they find out they're fated. The evil character who did the dirty deed. The one we love to hate.

The Problems:
1. At one point in the story, the main characters are getting ready to have a huge argument, but we don't get to hear it. instead, we get "Their argument escalated, voices rose as they stepped aggressively to one another, the intensity of their emotions surging, But as words ran out, something shifted." WHAT WORDS? It would have been much better to have actually had some context to the argument.

2. It ended too abruptly. We go through this massive climax and we know there are going to be logistical problems between to two main characters, but instead of seeing them work it out, we’re cut off. The End. WHAT?? 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'll definitely read more of Delta's books. I like her short stories, but I feel like this one was rushed and it could have been done much better.

TRUST THE FIRE WITHIN

The Alaskan Tails series is a spin-off from the Mystic River Shifters Series. It will showcase people that were mentioned, but never had their own story. The stories in this series are shorter novellas, unlike the longer tales, which are about twice as long. Once again, it was fun seeing characters that we met in previous stories have their own tale.

With the unexpected and questionable death of Magnus McAllister, Drake will resign his commission and leave his position as a Navy SEAL. It is time to return to Alaska, assume the Alpha's position, and continue with the family’s business, Northern Lights Distillery. The distillery had been the pride of his family for generations.

“Trust the fire within, for it knows the path you must take.”

Megan Reeves, aka Megan Reynolds, is ATF working undercover in Alaska. She has managed to snag a ticket to one of the most highly coveted bourbon-tasting events hosted by Northern Lights Distillery. She never expected to meet Drake and discover they are fated mates.

“She was old enough to know the physical symptoms of finding your fated mate. She didn’t need a fated mate. She didn’t want a fated mate. She wasn’t having a fated mate. Whoever he was, he could just bloody well do without her.”

The story is a fast-paced, action-packed fated mate novella. I liked the two main characters, Drake McAllister, a dragon shifter, and Megan Reeves, a lynx shifter. Both are instantly aware of their fated status—but she has a job to do, and has no plans to be a mate to anyone. Only fate, and that of an alpha dragon, things will change. The chemistry between them oozes off the pages, and when they are together, you feel the heat of their passion. While the sex was mutual and consensual, the claiming wasn’t.

“Dragon? The last thing she needed was a dragon-shifter mate. Dragons were arrogant and powerful. They didn’t take no for an answer.”

Drake: Now you’re bound to me.
Megan: You think you can just take whatever or whoever you want?
Drake: I did what had to be done. You’ll understand in time.
Megan: You think you can control me? Think again. If you think just because I wasn’t born drakaina, I’ll be easy, you couldn’t be more wrong. I won’t be a docile mate.
Drake: I don’t want docile. I want strong. Fierce. Exactly what you are.

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. Someone is making and smuggling counterfeit bourbon. Lives have been lost and more are on the line—as well as reputable businesses being at risk. Together, Megan and Drake will uncover the truth.

“Love conquers all. You’ll find a way through this, I’m sure of it. Trust yourself.”

Wonderful read, characters that are written wonderfully, action and adventure that keep you captivated
Drake is a Dragon shifter and when he was hit by a wave of senses that let him know that knew that all these senses were associated with the fact that a “Fated Mate” was close by and his dragon is more than a little enthusiastic to discover who this individual is.
At the tasting even that was filled with a good number of visiting individuals he had carefully looked at everyone and then had spotted an elegant woman that was seemingly overly interested in what was happening in the tasting room.
He had decided that he would introduce himself formally as Drake McAllister and then had discovered that she was Megan Reynolds and as soon as he had seen her face he was certain that she like himself was a shifter, what type he was a little unsure of at present but knew he would discover that little fact in just a matter of time.
As they had spoken and Drake had made it quite apparent that he was not going to stand for any of her nonsense trying to hide her true identity and the reason he was in his winery, she needed his professional help and it was apparent that this was the reason that she had sought him out.
Commander McAllister had been back on line and had known that she needed to discover is he would be willing to help her she knew that he was the only person that would be able to help her and would hopefully allow her to succeed.
It was obvious that he would be able to help her to attend to the major problem that faced her and she knew that if she failed it could cost individuals their lives including herself and this was not something she wanted to happen but it was essential that they the choices be made and she also knew that there was a connection between her and Drake.
This is a riveting read and I do not want to spoil the story for other so will be careful that I do not spoil the plot for other fans such as myself.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

3.5stars--HIS BRAZEN MATE is the seventh instalment in Delta James’ contemporary, adult ALASKAN TAILS erotic, paranormal, romance series-a spin off from the Mystic River shifters. This is former US Navy SEAL/ dragon shifter Drake McAllister, and ATF agent/ snow leopard shifter Megan Reeves’ story line. HIS BRAZEN MATE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual omniscient perspectives (Megan and Drake) HIS BRAZEN MATE follows ATF Agent Megan Reeves as she goes in undercover to ferret out a possible smuggling operation tied to the bourbon industry. Drake McAllister is the new alpha dragon in the wake of his father’s death, and running the family owned bourbon distillery finds Drake caught up in a potential illegal operation, an operation that may have gotten his father killed but Drake is about to come face to face with his fated mate, a woman investigating a case against his father’s operations.

The relationship between Drake and Megan is one of fated mated but Megan is a snow leopard, and the dragon’s have a reputation of brutality against their mates. Megan wants nothing to do with forever but Drake is willing to prove he is worthy of love. The $ex scenes are provocative and passionate.

We are introduced to several secondary and supporting characters including Drake’s aunt Victoria, a dragon shifter with an agenda of her own, and distillery owner Michael O’Brien, a businessman struggling to stay afloat.

HIS BRAZEN MATE is a fast paced, novella length story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, family and obsession, acceptance and love. The premise is entertaining and intriguing; the romance is fast and furious;the characters are energetic and powerful.

TRUST THE FIRE WITHIN

Drake and Megan. Drake is a Navy commander being celebrated for his service. Hes covert ops. He has a new medal. He was going back home to Kodiak to lay his father to rest. He is part of the Northern Lights Clan of dragons and now their new leader/alpha. They toasted Drake with a bottle of his family's bourbon. It tasted off. The party was his last official duty to the Navy but was reminded of all his friends in the military and intelligent community. While his dragon was out flying he noticed a wildfire and a Drakaina trying to shift the direction of the flame away from Kodiak. He helped her and flew away not wanting to interact. There's a mystery surrounding him in messages. He had more questions than answers. He reached out to friends for their special talents finding something dangerous. He dreams of a woman that says come find me. Megan is renting a cabin on the Alaskan Peninsula. She was there for work but she's also a snow leopard glad to be able to embrace that part of her here in Alaska. Tomorrow she would continue her investigation and attend the tasting event at the Northern Lights Distillery. The now dead Magnus knew who she really was and wanted to share information and she now wondered if his son Drake would be as forthcoming.
So many hidden truths and digital shadows. Accidents that aren't accidents. Now that I have whetted your appetite for this entertaining passionate adventure between these two shifters you have got to read this series and this book. As always Delta James never disappoints, and no one can weave a shifter romance with adventure like her.

Gotta start by saying I am in love with Drake McAllister. A Burbon making retired Navy SEAL, he is honorable, dependable, determined, stubborn, protective (um... that's an understatement), posessive, totally Alpha, dominant and unapologetic. Yeah, part of that is his Dragon, but if your top of the heap, who's gonna stop you?! In this case, that would be Megan. Or at least she thought it was gonna be, at first.😉 Megan Reese is a kick A ATF agent and a snow leopard. Investigating smuggling already, a call from Drake's dad had her heading to Northern Lights Brewery. The meeting with Drake was way more than she ever imagined, and opened up a few more issues than she wanted to deal with at one time, not that she had a choice.

Agreeing to help eachother, for professional and personal reasons, they dig into the mystery of what exactly is going on at NLB. Megan tried to kerp her secrets, yet Drake was exceptional at reading her (which unnerved her cause she certainly wasnt accustomed to THAT). She was also determined to deny her fated connection to Drake, and it was highly entertaining. She knew it was pointless, yet she still played mind games with herself. The most fun part was her reaction when she finally admitted to herself just how in/effective she'd actually been at fooling Drake. 😖

These two were meant to be together. Well yeah, fated mates and all. Find out just how well they do work together, and how disagreements are resolved, by reading for yourself. This is a great series and can be read in any order (though experience tells me greatest pleasure is derived from reading them in order). I was highly fortunate to receive a gift copy of this book and volunteered my review. Happy Reading Y'all 📚

Very enjoyable fast paced story. Megan is an undercover agent and is trying to stop a smuggling ring. Drake is a seal who's father dies suddenly so he resigns and goes home to become leader of his clan. Finding cryptic messages, strange ledgers and more things point up his father being murdered. As he's trying to figure things out he stumbles across his fatedmate at a party he throws. Read to find out what happens between them and the case which is fraught with danger, mistrust, betrayal, secrets, lies and more. Can things work out between two ppl not expecting to find love with their fated mate.

Story could have used more depth around members of clan and the distillery as the story mainly focused on two lead characters with next to no world Building or details in support of plot. Everything but two MC's was pretty vague just mentioned in slightest way to have story make sense. Also the connection between Megan and Drake was basically insta-love which given their nature's and careers didn't really make sense. I think trust would have been much harder to achieve esp when drake claims her without her consent. Should have been more conflict around this as what woman is ok with her choices being taken away from her. Felt a bit like story was rushed to the conclusion without enough meat in the middle.
I received an arc copy from book sirens and this is my honest voluntary review.

I’ve just finished His Brazen Mate, book 7 in the series Alaskan Tails, by Delta James.

Drake returns to Alaska upon the death of his father; he has inherited the name, the business (a bourbon distillery), the clan. He has also inherited his father’s papers and soon realizes that everything is not as straightforward as he thought.

Soon after returning home, he meets Megan, a beautiful, observant guest at an event at the distillery. It doesn’t take long for Drake to realize that Megan is his fated mate. But, Megan is there for reasons of her own.

The story that follows is, primarily, how they each react to that discovery.

DF heroines’ might ‘enjoy ‘ a hunky man, they don’t ‘need’ him. Not that the man, hunky or otherwise, ever simply accepts that! How they navigate those feelings, the give and take, is always a blast.

Do they resolve things between them? Do they resolve the mystery Drake found? Do things get steamy along the way? Will there be an epic battle in addition to the battle of the sexes? It’s Delta James. The story will be a HEA, but expect some squirming before you get there.

DF does show us Drake’s dragon; in DF’s world, the dragon pretty much is the apex predator and will overwrite other DNA. Will we see Megan’s dragon later? Please?

Drake McAllister has resigned his commission in the USN and returned home to take control of his dragon clan and their bourbon distillery, Northern Lights. The accident that took his father's life is brought into question by an anonymous note, and the distillery's possible involvement in a counterfeiting and smuggling scheme has Drake doubly worried. Finding his fated mate and discovering that she is an ATF agent investigating the smuggling is not necessarily a good thing, but he wants her and he needs to get to the bottom of what is going on at the distillery.

Snow leopard shifter and ATF agent Megan Reeves is not particularly happy to find out that Drake McAllister is her mate. His clan is part of her current investigation and she already had to worry about exposing the shifter world while solving it, now she has the added complication of her mate being head of the dragon clan embroiled in the case. She has finally worked her way up the ladder at the ATF, she really doesn't need a mate to mess that up. But dragons are not known to take 'no thank you' as an answer when it comes to their mates.

The story is a little rushed due to the restriction of it being a 'short.' Other then that, it is an action-packed insta-love HEA. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

Drake McAllister is called in by Admiral Whitaker, and is congratulated and is asked to stay in his service. However, with Drake’s father’s death, he must return home to Kodiak, Alaska, and to take over Northern Lights Bourbon. He was also going home to be Alpha to the Dragon Clan. He reaches out to his friend, Jasmine Chen, as he gets a note telling him that there is more to his father’s death. There are also documents showing that there is a counterfeit ring around bourbon as well. So he has a lot of work to do at home. He meets Megan Reeves, a snow leopard, who is undercover ATF agent looking into the counterfeit ring, etc. Drake notices that some of the people he had known before going into the service are a bit different now. His Aunt Victoria seems to close mouthed. All of this worries him. Drake sees Megan and knows that she is his fated mate and he does things to that he deems will protect her. I laughed myself silly a lot during this book. *shakes head* Alphas. Pffft. I really enjoyed their verbal sparring and how good she is at her job. I knew who was part of the ring immediately once Drake went home and Megan was introduced. I can’t wait to see what happens next. As always the fight scenes are awesome.

Megan Reeves, aka Megan Reynold, is an ATF agent, and snow leopard shifter, who is investigating a smuggling operation which just might have a connection to the owner of a famous, and very exclusive brand of bourbon. Drake McAllister is a dragon shifter, and former Navy SEAL. When his father is killed in an accident, he resigned his commission to return to Kodiak Island and take his place as alpha of the Northern Lights Dragon Clan and head of operations of the distillery his clan has operated for many years. Neither of them is looking for their fated mate and had pretty much decided that they would never find one. But they will soon realize that together they just might be able to uncover the truth about the death of Drake's father and uncover the identity of the criminals behind the smuggling ring.
I think that these are absolutely wonderful characters that have both focused on their careers with no thought given to finding their fated mate. There is action, romance, and surprising twists in the plot of this book that make it impossible to put down.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

I enjoyed this little piece of heaven with its touch of magic scattered through the
pages. This short novella packed a punch, and I was glad to be back on Kodiak Island. This time with Drake McAllister and Megan Reeves. Drake finds himself the new Alpha of the Northern Lights Dragon Clan, and he has the family distillery to oversee plus investigate the circumstances around his father’s death. On the other hand, Megan was an agent sent to look into the dirty undertakings at the distillery, but as it happens, Drake recognizes Megan as his fated mate. Not that she was happy about it, but Drake was not willing to allow Megan to be harmed.

There is a lot more to the story to explore and enjoy on your own. This is a short read, but you will not be dissatisfied. You have a dominant protective Alpha male and a strong, feisty woman determined to right the wrongs in the world. A recipe for fireworks. Despite the paranormal theme, the characters seem almost real and believable. Lose yourself in this exciting read by Ms. James

This author’s stories are so interesting! When his father dies, Drake retires from the military and returns to Kodiak Island. He assumes leadership of the McAllister family’s bourbon distillery, as the alpha Dragon Shifter. Drake quickly develops suspicions about both his father’s death and some mysterious distillery records that suggest criminal activities. At the same time, he meets undercover ATF agent (and snow leopard shifter) Megan at an elite bourbon event. Drake and Megan decide to work together to investigate the criminal activity while realizing they're fated mates. This novella has a mystery, suspense, adult heat and a good conclusion. The limitations and brevity of a novella are a little frustrating since so many things are going on in this plot, but it’s still a satisfying story. Recommended novella and series. Drake McAllister was a Commander in the Navy Seals. He is giving up that life to take over the family business as his father has passed away. He is to take over their distillery business of Northern Lights Bourbon. He is also now the alpha of the Northern Lights clan of dragons. During his going away party someone gets a bottle of his family label, but it doesn't taste right.

Meagan Reeves is a snow leopard shifter. She is undercover looking into the Northern Lights Bourbon distillery. She has gotten an invitation to the annual event held at the distillery. As she enters and sees Drake, she feels him in the only way a fated mate feels her mate.

Oh my. What will this lead to? Both are on a mission that will work better if they work together. Will they or won't they?

This is a great story. One of a series, but can be read as a standalone. Highly recommended.

Enjoy.

Ok Read

This isn’t the first book in this series that I’ve read, I think it’s about the 5th.
I am generally a fan of novella’s, I find when written well they can be great fast paced, fast plot stories that are perfect palette cleansers.
This book just didn’t do that for me, I’m not sure what it was, there were some scenes that just didn’t work for me, too rushed, too random, too ‘out of the blue’.
The idea of the plot was good, I know this is a novella and it is meant to be fast paced but it just didn’t work this time.
I have read others in this series, they are all stand-alones, don’t need to have read any others to dive in, those, in my opinion, flowed a little better than this book.

Wasn’t a bad book in anyway, this one just wasn’t my vibe on this occasion.

I was lucky enough to get a copy of this book as an Arc from BookSirens, this is an honest review with my own personal thoughts and opinions

I loved the sage advice Drake received. "Trust the fire within, for it knows the path you must take". It is so true in the decisions he had to make.

Drake is very alpha. Domineering and arrogant (it comes with being an alpha)

I really liked Megan. Defiant , confident, and willing to put herself in the line of danger to protect others.

Action from the first page. I love the interaction between the two. And Megan's strong feelings about not accepting her fated mate. Of course Drake had to convince her and he did it in a very devious way.

Steam to the romance. This is a novella , so a quick read. But it had everything you would expect in a well thought out story line . Suspense, intrigue and to me a HEA/HFN vibe to the ending.

Megan Reeves, an undercover ATF agent, is in Alaska to break up a counterfeit smuggling operation at the prestigious Northern Lights Distillery. As a snow leopard, she knows all about fated mates – she just doesn’t happen to want one.

Drake McAllister, alpha dragon shifter, has returned to his clan and the family distillery after his father’s suspicious death. He quickly discovers the counterfeiting scheme and is looking for a connection to his father’s death when Megan arrives for a bourbon tasting event. Megan may not want anything to do with a fated mate, but Drake recognizes her instantly and is determined to claim her.

The plot is interesting, the romance is sizzling and the characters are enjoyable.

This is book 7 of the Alasan Tails series. We meet Drake and Megan. The premise was good and had the author stayed with the arc it would have been an awesome story. However, the reason behind the investigation was never made known. The people behind the tragedy and the events were made known. The story seemed incomplete. Drake's claim on Megan seemed at odds with his background as a Seal. It seemed to this reader that the author started with an arc for a full book, and she turned it into a novella but didn't address the number of things happening. Just be prepared to have loose ends. This is not the norm for the author so I can only think that maybe she had several thoughts and in the process of getting them all down, didn't realize the main story wasn't really tied up. Leave behind all hope, those who enter. His Brazen Mate is the seventh book in the Alaskan Tails series, a 107-page effort that fails to deliver, like the preceding six. The further you get into the series, the more you realise each book starts with a good idea; then you realise that each book has a concept that is not fleshed out, there are breadcrumbs of peripheral happenings and circumstances that are not followed up, then the overly repetitive writing and interminable descriptions that don't progress the story.
While each book isn't horribly bad, the same poor writing takes its toll as you progress through the series.
Regrettably, I can no longer endorse these books. I had hoped for an improvement in Ms. James's writing as the series progressed, but that expectation remains unmet. I'm glad I borrowed these books from KU and did not purchase them.

Another awesome book by Delta James, paranormal shifter, Drake's father has died so he heads home to take over the family business, the McAllister Distilleries when he checked the computer to see if anything needed to be dealt with straight away, that's when he noticed some secrets. Megan Reeves is Undercover ATF agent when she needs to return to Kodiak Island she meets Drake they both realise they are fated mates, she is not wanting a mate she has a job. As the new alpha of the Northern Lights Dragon Clan, Drake wants to uncover what his father has found out except he needs help from a friend to hack into the folder. There were a lot of secrets, action, twist and turns, danger, hitmen, fated mates, betrayal, lies, secrets, romance, passion, and maybe even love.

Action, Mystery and Fated Love

Dragon Shifters took and claimed their fated mates, they didn’t wait to ask, it was their arrogant and possessive way and Drake was no different.

Megan was there on a mission, she scented her fated mate the moment she walked into the room and before she knew it she was bedded and claimed!

Working together to solve his father’s death and the smuggling ring, betrayal and secrets are revealed.

Both must learn to trust each other to bring down what was getting more personal to Drake every day.

Another fun, action packed witty read from the Alaskan Tales sure to please.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Once again Delta James has brought a storyline to life within my mind like I was there. Sean, a dragon shifter, gave up his commission as a SEAL when his father died in an automobile accident. It was time he went home and took up the mantle of Alpha to the clan and head of the bourbon distillery business that was his father's legacy. Megan, a snow leopard shifter, was on assignment as an undercover ATF agent. Her investigation had brought her to the distillery but she needed a way in. These two strong characters are both looking for the same answers but when push comes to shove, where will their loyalty lie? It's a bittersweet moment, to say the least. I'll admit, this one left me empathizing with both of them before it was over. You won't want to miss this one.

Very fast paced action packed plot. Drake had retired from the military returning to assume leadership his family’s bourbon distillery after his father’s passing. He is now the Alpha Dragon Shifter and discovers nefarious things. Megan is an undercover ATF snow leopard shifter working at uncovering smuggling. Meeting the alpha Drake and realizing they are fated was not in her plans. But a dragon never accepts no. They work together to uncover hidden secrets while sparks of passion fly. The quick storyline has drama, intrigue, action, mystery, emotion, strong personalities but I confess I wanted a bit more resolution. Drake McAllister is a dragon shifter who returns home after his father's death to run the family's business Northern Lights Bourbon. Upon returning he discovers some counterfeiting of the bourbon is happening and might have cost his father his life. Megan Reeves and ATF agent is undercover to discover who is behind the counterfeit operation. While under cover she encounters Drake who is also her fated mate. They team up to find out who is behind the counterfeiting and the murder of Drakes father. However, someone close to Drake does not want this information to be uncovered. Overall, this was a fast read in Mystic Shifter universe. It can be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait for the next installment.

This is another of the Alaska Tails shorts. Drake is a dragon shifter who comes home to his clan to take over once his father passes. His clan runs a distillery, Northern Lights. He quickly discovers that something is happening with his clan and the distillery. Megan is a snow leopard and an agent with ATF. She is investigating irregularities. Drake and Megan quickly realize that they are fated mates. They have a HEA,

I enjoyed the story and am glad the author is tying up loose ends. I wish the stories were longer to get more details, but I understand why the author uses the novella format.

Drake has returned to Alaska because he inherited his father's bourbon distillery and his clan after his father's death. Megan is an undercover ATF agent who is investigating the distillery for possible fraud and smuggling. She attends an event at the distillery and Drake realizes she is his fated mate.

They join forces to discover what is happening at the distillery and who is responsible. There are some interesting twists to the story that certainly grabs a reader's attention. As always, Delta crafts a terrific story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
