Lord of Bones

Rate this book
Rayven

Kidnapped. Collared. Trapped.

I slink through shadows and steal from the deceased. It’s my passion, until I steal from Death himself…

Then it becomes my curse.

I’m a prisoner in the realm of the dead, at the mercy of the beast who calls this labyrinthian castle home. The walls are alive, with shifting corridors and eyes that follow me everywhere.

He’s given me three days to escape. Then I become his property forever.

But what happens—after everything—if I don’t want to escape his cruel love at all?

Belial

I will break her. I will take her. I will make her mine.

My little thief will pay for what she stole…In blood. In fear. In sweat and tears.

I’ll own every drop of her, brand my name upon her bones. I'll carve my obsession into her soul.

She thinks she can escape me. She’ll soon discover she’s already mine.

My new queen will look so pretty with a crown upon her head, and my lap for her throne.

I am death incarnate. I am the Lord of Bones. And I am hers.

Lord of Bones is a dark demon/monster romance inspired by Beauty and the Beast and Labyrinth, featuring themes that may be triggering for some, including gore, murder, kidnapping, and graphic sexual content. Excellent dark erotic horror romance!!!!
Lord of Bones is like nothing I've ever read! The writing and storyline were fantastic and the characters new and exciting!!! When Rayven and her boyfriend Mark rob the Petherick mausoleum and Rayven grabs a necklace from the neck of lord of bones dead lover Catherine both her and her boyfriend Mark will pay the price. Mark with his life and Rayven will be collared and chained and become the new pet to the dark depraved King of Limbo to do with as he pleases. Rayven is tough and smart and isn't afraid to go toe to toe with tall dark and scary but when he drags her to his underworld full of lost souls and chains her like a animal with no way out she realizes she's in big trouble this time. But she's a fighter and will not easily submit to this sexy dark prick who loves fucking with her head and if he thinks he'll break her with his dark and depraved plans of pain and humiliation. He's in for a big surprise! Rayven not only loves pain but she needs it to get off! Good luck asshole because your gonna need it with her. Lord of bones/Belial is playing a game with his new pet and while he thinks he holds the winning cards with coming to her as Belial the demon ferry man for the lord of the bones it gets turned on him when his beautiful captive falls for him. Full of twists and turns and fabulous main characters and side characters and some really graphic sex scenes that give a whole new meaning to dark and dirty depraved primal sex! And a villain who'd I'd drop my panties for anytime of the day or night with equally amazing writing, its no wonder its one of my favorite reads of this year! I loved the cliffhanger and can't wait for more from this world! I knew when I saw the cover that I had to have it! Until next time Luv's💕💋

Y’all know I hate it when authors take one book and make it into multiple short ones. I get it, it makes more money for indie authors. As a reader, it irritates me.

Otherwise, for a shorter book, this one drags a bit and I can’t really put my finger on why. It covers, maybe, 4-5 days and a lot is going on.

Still a fairly fun read.

I think I would’ve liked it better if the reader wasn’t in on the deception. If we didn’t know that Belial and the lord of bones was the same person. Sure, the reader will suspect, but it would’ve upped my enjoyment 🤷‍♀️

This book reads like a 14 yr old goth girl's fever dream after she watched Labyrinth, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Legend. I gett the impression that the authors saw the words "monster f*clear" somewhere and a checklist of all the "necessary options" to be one and kept adding things to the book to check all the boxes. NONE of these characters are fully fleshed out, none of them have a personality other than "morally gray villain", "edgy goth chick" and "side character". I did finish the book, but only because I DETEST dnf's on my lists. The words out of my mouth when It ended was "thank fuck!"
It covered all of maybe two weeks in the book, and the characters were "in love" by the end. The trigger warnings were incomplete, because the near drowning by her "lover" was horrible to stumble across, and worse written.
Please, take a few classes in writing or edit your drafts a few times before you publish. Thank fuck it's over.

Just wow.
If you like deliciously dark smut with a dash of horror this is the book for you. It was a mixture of Labyrinth, Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera, and Alice in Wonderland. Rayven is a grave robber who accidentally steals from death himself. As punishment, the Lord Of Bones captures her and takes her back home with every intention of torturing her. It’s a slow burn with a lot of trigger warnings. I went into this blindly and I was not disappointed.

It’s not often I indulge in a bit of paranormal/monster romance, but I couldn’t help myself when I spotted this beauty. The demon King of Limbo kidnaps a grave robber that chose to plunder the wrong mausoleum, whisking her away to Hell to become his to punish in every way? YES, YES AND YES. Lord of Bones was the first novel I’ve read from both Aiden Pierce and R.K. Pierce, but it most certainly won’t be my last. I absolutely loved this one, simple as that.

Gorgeously atmospheric with gothic Beauty and the Beast vibes, this book tells the tale of Rayven and Belial, the Lord of Bones, where dark secrets and deception control the narrative. Belial has lorded over the dead for so long that he craves to own life itself. His obsession with women that are alive always seems to get him in trouble, and when his path crosses Rayven’s, the fiery brat she is, he gets more than he bargained for. For the first time in a long time, he’s able to *feel*.

All I have to say is Bone Daddy is EVERYTHING. Whether we get him in his monstrous form or the scarred dead man behind the mask, he knows how to inflict pain while doling out pleasure in equal measure. The mouth on this monster and his sadistic ways are enough to make even those with the strongest conviction melt and kneel at his feet. What he does to Rayven is just obscene…in all the best ways. Who cares if he’s a devious bastard?

The authors tell this story seamlessly with a cohesive voice, immersing us in this world of black halls, blood red skies and a labyrinth that stretches to the horizon. The plot within these pages is so engaging and told in a unique way, allowing it to burrow its claws in deep, dragging readers beneath the surface of the crimson River Styx. There’s a lot of richness to this world, but I feel we’ve barely scratched the surface.

If you’re looking for a book ripe with morally gray characters, a beautifully realized setting, and some clutch-your-pearls steaminess, this is the one. Originally meant to be a standalone, I was thrilled to learn I get to come back for more, because I NEED more. Yes, there is a cliffy, but it’s tolerable, gently tying up one plot thread right before the authors pull the rug out from beneath us. I’ll just be sitting patiently awaiting the Queen of Carrion. Just read this, you won't regret it.

Gothic MF Romance
Dark Fantasy
Monster Lovin
Masked MMC
Secret Identity
Spunky Goth Girl

My goodness this was a fun little smutty read. Dark fantasy with a hot monster/devil and feisty grave robber. Blurb says it’s like Beauty and the Beast, and I can see that but the MC is masked and gives off Phantom of the Opera vibes. So good! And Belial is pretty damn swoony. There’s a lot of touch her and die, and super possessive vibes at play. My only complaint is that it’s kinda insta-love but that’s just a minor complaint, and everything else is so cool that’s it’s easy to overlook. There are some genuinely creepy horror moments in this story and great whimsical characters. Very entertaining to read!

This is a duet and sounds like shit about to get real in the next book!

DNF at 12%. I couldn't do it anymore. The FMC was an insufferable twatwaffle and she was blowing the MMCs smoldering high with her stupidity and crassness. I would read to see if he gags her. Then like murks her Silas Wife style (iykyk). And then finds a new woman. Alas that clearly does not happen. Poor Shadow Bone Daddy

“you’ll be mine forever. even as the world falls down, little human.”

HELLO SEXY DEMON MONSTER PARANORMAL LORD OF THE FUCKING DEAD 😍 honey i’m in love with this man and his multiple hot as all hell personalities !!

i’ve been dying to read this for the longest time and i’m finally getting to it 😩 this was such an easy read to get into !! so perfect for wanting to try a dark demon/monster/underworld type of book. it definitely wasn’t what i was expecting. i literally went into this blind and all i can think about right now is this panty dropping filthy mouthed masked demon 🤤

rayven is a cute gothic grave robber and when she stumbled upon a well protected and super rich tomb, she found herself witnessing the most gruesome death. she meets the lord of bones and death himself in that eerie cemetery where he sweeps her off her feet and into the underworld (literally). and now she’s running around in circles of his castle and maze trying to find a way back to the mortal realm 🖤 belial aka lord of bones made a deal with her. if she can find a way out of his realm within three days then she is free to go. but when the time is up … she is his forever and will be queen of the dead. he plays two characters, messing with her mind. there’s a sweet and nurturing side where he shows up whenever she’s in need of help. and then there’s the monster side, the one where he torments her and shows her the darkest most depraved acts he does while being the lord of the dead. rayven doesn’t know they’re one and the same. so when the three days look closer and closer, there’s only one way to get her to stay … sell her soul to belial 🤭

immediately running to book two in this duet !! i need to know what rayven is gonna do when she finds out 👀 belial better drag her little ass right back to hell and claim her omg !!

🌶️🌶️ (i need that demon monster dick RIGHT NOW)

I absolutely loved this book! I definitely see why this is compared to The Labyrinth but I got more Wonderland vibes than I did Beauty and the Beast although I do see why that was mentioned.
Rayven is a graverobber but, she robbed the wrong grave and the Lord of Bones arrives to seek justice. This had everything I love. Gothic vibes, labyrinth halls, garden maze, a bit of gore, sprinkles of smut with a dash of horror and I am all in. I can't wait to read the next one. The only reason this is not 5 stars is there were a couple of lines regarding bi polar that I thought were in poor taste. I don't think it was meant to be malicious but, it took me out of enjoying the story. I would still recommend this and am so glad I found this on KU.

Okay, I was not expecting this…told from both POV. The story was gripping while also being spicy and crazy at times. Definitely some dark…though at times, it’s so sad. Both characters were interesting and raw. Both trying to find their way.

With my little thief, I wanted everything. Her pain. Her pleasure. Her fear and loathing. I wanted to wring every drop of blood, cum, and tears from her. I wanted to taste every inch of her. And when I inevitably broke her, I wanted to piece her back together so I could do it all over again.

Loved this dark monster romance! It has Labyrinth meets Phantom of the Opera vibes that sucked me in from the first page. I did not want it to end, so thank goodness there’s a book two on the horizon! (Hopefully, sooner rather than later.)

The FMC is a sassy and stabby graverobber – fearless and a bit unhinged. She catches the attention of a death God, who becomes obsessed with her, wanting to punish and consume her in equal measure. She probably shouldn’t have robbed a crypt he was keen to keep secure…

This book is medium burn and spicy MF romance with multiple dark kinks explored, including degradation/humiliation, somno, bondage, and make-it-fit.

Genre: Dark Gothic Monster Romance
Tropes/Features: Gothic vibes, Labyrinth meets Phantom of the Opera, horror elements, enemies to lovers, captor/captive, graverobber FMC, masked death god MMC, fancy peen, pierced peen, degradation/humiliation, somno
Narrator: Dual 1st Person POV
Relationship Type: MF, medium burn, spicy (darker kinks)
Book Type/Ending: Book one in duet, cliffhanger

Spent at least 75% of this book screaming to Rayven that she was dumb because clearly Belial was the Lord of Bones and she couldn't put 2 + 2 together, but she clearly defeated a giant snake by herself. FFS ... I was almost DFN'ing it at 91% but decided to push through
NOT WORTH IT

There are hardcore labyrinth vibes in this book and I adore it. Think darker, sexier, gothic vibes.
It also had some Beauty and the Beast vibes going on with the way the characters are presented, plus some talking household items.

The FMC Rayven is a brat and I loved it. She's funny, sassy, and isn't afraid to say what's on her mind.

Belial is so dark and in control of himself. I loved watching him discover new aspects of himself as he spent more time with Rayven.

All in all I loved this book. The characters were fun to read about and the spice was delicious! I read it in one day because I just couldn't put it down! I'll be excited to read book two and find out what happens next.

*The TW are extensive in this book. Please take a look at them and decide for yourself.*

I received an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

Whenever I start a story, I am usually quite eager to see how I find the characters and the Lord of the Bones is the epitome of dark, depraved and dangerously alluring. Despite his dark demeanour, Belial is a complex, multilayered character - I greatly appreciated his vulnerability and ability to show true care for the FMC even when he was walking on the fine line between possession and obsession. In this particular case, it worked beautifully as such traits did fit the MMC perfectly and frankly, that was part of his charm.

Rayven is a feisty FMC, one that shows courage, strength and determination. Her connection with Belial is undeniable and what started off as a fight for her life started to turn into something else.

This Gothic monster romance is quite well written and I did enjoy the story. I am interested to see how Rayven's journey continues.

Belial.. 🫠🫠 I have been waiting for this one since these two announced they were cowriting together and I was NOT disappointed! It was everything I love about them mashed together beautifully. Lord of Bones takes place in limbo. Rayven is drug there after taking something that wasn't hers to take.

Rayven is bound and determined to make it back to the land of the living. She goes through a lot during this book, but it also shows how strong she is. She doesn't know that things aren't as they seem. I loved her and Belial together. They are 🔥🥵

I cannot wait for the second part of this duet. I am so ready to find out what happens at the stroke of midnight!

🌶️ 5 Slow burn but worth it!
⚠️Lots of Trigger Warnings/ 🖤Kink Shopping List

I read this book in one day it was so good I could not put it down! The things that demon did 🥵 I will always keep a bottle of wine in this house! This had such an interesting and unique storyline with wonderfully dark gothic world-building. I loved Rayven and her badassery! The mind games Belial and/or The Lord of Bones were dark and sadistic making me completely jealous of Rayven.

I'll be back to finish this review when I'm more comprehensive 🌹🫠
Just go get the damn book and your favorite toy and enjoy!! 😉
I'll be requesting the arc for book 2 because I cannot wait to read how Rayven responds when she finds out...Cliffhanger! 😮

The smut was 4/5 🌶️
The book will absolutely keep you intrigued the whole time you’re reading. If you’re not into dark romance, then this is NOT the book for you!
So glad I got to read this book right before Halloween 🎃
The cliffhanger was a perfect place to stop/start the next book. It’s not one to leave you on the edge of your seat but still keeps you waiting for the next book!
I cannot wait to read the next book in this series!!🥳

While Rayven knew it would be risky to enter the Petherick tomb, it turned out to be worse than she bargained for, because this crypt was being protected by the Lords of Bones and she will pay for disturbing what is his… but that might be a match made in Hell for the goth girl who prefers monster romance to human company 😈

She caught his attention by Grave robbing his ex, that’s a new level of complicated without even mentioning he’s a demon. The build-up of this book was like a dream and a nightmare rolled into one 🖤😍

The Labyrinth had me HOOKED in 💀
I was told to expect dark&depraved, and not only did it deliver, it showed me a new meaning to those words.

4.5 ⭐️ because that cliffhanger although subtle dropped my jaw enough to be worth the half

It's an M/F gothic romance that says inspired by Beauty and the beast and the Labyrinth. I would've said Beauty and the beast, Alice in wonderland and Phantom of the opera. I haven't seen Labyrinth. The story starts off strange with Rayven being a grave robber and desecrating the wrong grave. You've got the layers of hell with Belial being the apparent softest of his brothers, but heartbroken all the same.

Rayven has three nights to escape before she becomes Queen. I did like the dual identity thing. It was sneaky and blatant lying but it was interesting a gave a semi-mysterious vibe. It was okay and I'm curious what will happen when she finds out the truth. I think I was expecting something a bit slower and more haunting and that wasn't there.

Pfff.

To pretend I absolutely detested the book would be a lie. It’s smutty fun for sure. With a lot of motifs I enjoy as a goth girl.

But.

And it’s a big one.

Parts of this were omega cringe.

The whole grave robbing thing. Like. I get it I suppose. But, not all of us goth girls like to sit around and stare at bones. 🦴 We don’t all roll that way. But Rayven (my god that name 🙄), loves bones but is creeped out by the undead librarian who has teeth in his eye sockets instead of eyes. Like, gimme some consistency here. She is either down with the creepy shit or not. Get it together.

Also.

There’s this huge leap that occurs around 33% when “Belial” enters the picture. I actually went back and reread a few times. He never introduces himself as Belial and she somehow knows his name - says it in her head when referring to him. All of this gave me whiplash and just didn’t work for me. She just assumes that he’s a whole separate person from the Lord of Bones. Just goes to show how sloppily that section was handled. I don’t buy it. Not for a second. Editing problems? I don’t know.

Another thing. As a weirdo goth girl, I know my demon names. Belphegor, Asmodeus, Belial, Leviathan, etc. In this narrative we are led to believe they are “brothers.” And that all these brothers are not minor demons, but Hell Lords. Okay. Belial tells Rayven (I cringe just typing it I swear) a story about one of the demon brothers transforming into a female and tricking Asmodeus into #@$%ing them. So we’ve established they’re brothers. These Lords of Hell. We’re to believe Rayven wouldn’t make the connection with their names? That Belial was not only one of the brothers, but also a Lord of Hell like the others? Idk 🤷🏼‍♀️

Because of this I can’t give it a higher rating. I just can’t. It doesn’t mean I don’t want to read the next book. Which is insane. Fml. The inconsistencies in the narrative really frustrated me. The devil is in the details. And the details were just missing.

I was given this ARC for an honest review. First and foremost I loved it. LOVED IT! With all the references to Labyrinth (one of my favorite movies) the adorable Beauty and the Beast aspects. This book was phenomenal. The spice was delicious, Belial makes me want to sell my soul to a sexy mask wearing demon. The authors definitely knew what they were doing, but that cliffhanger! My heart is in a damn chokehold!

This was not the book I was hoping it was going to be. One dimensional characters and lazy world building. The authors gave me no reason to care about these, frankly, unlikeable characters and I have no desire to find out what happens in the next book when really not much happened in this book. It felt dragged out and unnecessary. Booo

Title: Lord Of Bones
Author: R.K. Pierce and Aiden Pierce
Stars: 5/5⭐️
Spice: 5/5 🌶
Spoilers:No
This Book Left Me Feeling:
*Screams Repeatedly* 🥵🤬😭😱🥴😍
Genre:
Dark PNR Romance
Tropes:
Monster romance, Gothic, K!dnap, Enemies to lovers, Dub con, Masks, Panty melting d!rty talk.

My Favourite Quotes:
"Show your Lord all that he owns.”
“Soon your screams will join their forsaken chorus. And it will be my name in your mouth. Not God’s.”
“Remember what you say to your God when he makes you come?”

About The Book:
Without giving away any specifics this is a book about a hot goth girl who finds herself trapped in purgatory with the equally hot and FILTHY mouthed Lord of the realm. Gives off the best vibes of Alice in wonderland, labyrinth, beauty and the beast, the sandman and just everything else that's hilarious, heated and immersive in all the best ways.

What Will Stay With Me:
The aesthetics of the characters and realm. This is the first world that I have wanted to live in with absolutely no changes. The vibes are IMMACULATE. Not how everyone would wanna live but from beginning to end I was ready to get a mortgage out there and build a home.

Review:
I am going to be gushing over this book for the foreseeable future. It was absolutely everything I never knew I wanted. I'm gonna order myself the paperback and read it again as soon as it comes because I am smitten.

I have never been so completely in love with the aesthetics of a book. The world and characters are all just so beautifully put together and it's all just so wonderfully dark and gloriously gothic. I want to live there with them.

The characters were just as expertly crafted as the aesthetics and I feel like we really got to know them during their story. Some more than others and I honestly can't wait for the next book to be able to connect with these characters again and learn more about them.

Without getting too lengthy and risking spoiling things this book is a must read for anyone who enjoys dark, gothic or enemies to lovers books. This is not one, but if you love hades and persephone or beauty and the beast retellings then this is gonna be absolutely for you and if you love the labyrinth then I see no way you could not love this.

TlDR:
Buy the book. It's my new favourite book of the year and I love it to death!
