Very well written story with a slight take off of Snow White, the fairy tale. Full of drama, betrayal, kidnapping, romance, mystery, love, villains, family, revenge and intrigue. Faine is the son of a Marquess but has become a physician in the country. He also has lost his wife and has children to take care of. Being a single father it's hard to understand what they need as his wife was always there. Sophia is at a ball when she starting feeling sick so her stepmother takes from the ball. Only to claim that someone kidnaps her before she can get into the carriage. When Sophia is found, she can't remember who she is and what happened to her. Faine takes her home to care for her. He and the children learn to care for her and feelings for her. Sophia has the same feelings for them. Has lots of action and fantastic characters. What happened to the stepmother? Lady Sophia White is the only and most cherished child of the Earl of Winland. When her mother was dying, Sophia made a promise that she would only marry for true love. And keeping to that promise she ran away with a man that her father would never approve of, but one she believed loved her. Her dream of happily ever after is dashed when the young man was easily bought off by her father and she learned that her mother had passed away. Heartbroken, Sophia and her father mourn for a time, but eventually her father remarried, and Sophia’s stepmother pressed Sophia to marry. Sophia promises to try and find a husband, but her efforts are cut short when she is abducted and left for dead. When she wakes, she cannot remember who she is or how she came to be in Painwick. She was taken in by the local doctor and his family, and slowly she falls in love with all of them and makes promises that she has every intention of keeping. But when her past catches up with her and she is forced to return to her former life, will she be able to keep the promises she has made and the love she has found? And what of the villain who has tried to kill her? Clearly, Sophia’s future hasn’t been determined, and true love may yet prevail.
Dr. Faine Knight is the youngest son of the Marquess of Ashbury but turned his back on his family many years ago when he was forced to choose between them and the woman he loved. He chose love and married Mary, a healer in Painwick, together they had three children and led a life of contentment. But sadly, Mary died and with her Faine buried his heart, or at least that is what he believed until he found a badly beaten and unconscious woman in the forest. He brings her home and nurses her back to health. When she finally wakes with no memories, they name her Cecilia, he tries to keep her from his family. But Cecilia and his children ignore his dictates and begin to form a bond. Little by little, the walls he had built around his heart begin to crumble, but loving Cecilia terrifies him, and when her father shows up to claim her, he gives her up without a fight. But letting her go is not as easy as he thought it would be and when her life is once again in peril, he knows that he loves her and will do whatever is necessary to save her and keep her forever. But has he waited too long?
This was a well-written, very loose retelling of Snow White by a new to me author. I liked this story, but I will admit I found Faine to be difficult to like; he was quick to judge, moody and wishy-washy. I understood his pain and his reluctance to risk his heart, but it just dragged on for way too long in my opinion. Sophia was delightful and my heart broke for her time and time again. I think the thing that bothered me the most was Overall, this was a good start to a new series with interesting characters, steamyish love scenes, a truly nasty villain, a HEA complete with an epilogue and the potential of more books. And while I did have some issues with this book, I did like the author’s writing style and would certainly read the next book in the series.

This is a historical romance Snow White retelling, and amnesia, second chance at love, differing social status themes.
Initially, this started very aligned with the various Snow White stories we know with the beloved daughter, Lady Sophia, losing her mother, and gaining the stepmother who conspires against her.
Because of the stepmother's mechanisms, Sophia ends up being found unconscious in the woods, and as she recovers from her injuries cared for in the home of the local doctor, they find she has profound amnesia, not remembering anything about her past, not even her name.
But the story told here does not march side by side with the tales we know from the past, and pleasingly so. Faine Knight, the hero of the story is anything but a prince charming as he fights many demons in his own mind and life. He is a widower single father, trying to raise his 3 children, keep them safe, while providing medical services to his community, and reconciling himself to the loss of the love of his life, Mary. When Sophia lands in his life, he is deeply conflicted by many things, including his attraction to her, and his desires to maintain boundaries between her, himself, and his family.
I am glad this story does not follow the traditional tale, but gives us a better, deeper story with a complex character such as Faine, and his relationships. He is an imperfect hero that at times is quite frustrating in how much he fights his own past, and mind, and in doing so hurts those he loves. But while it makes me want to shake him, it makes me empathize with him as well, as he has very real feelings of fear, and self doubt, and likely guilt as he tentatively opens up his heart and family to this stranger he has let in their lives.
A sweet story that is more than just a retelling of the well known fairy tale, with several short people, but not a dwarf to be seen.
But just an FYI, there is a bit of a cliff hanger - just not to Faine and Sophia's HEA.
I really like this story. It is filled with intriguing characters, traumatic experiences, tension, distrust, conflict, intense emotion and multiple story threads. Lady Sophia, the only child of the Earl of Winland, had promised her dying mother that she would only marry if it was true love. At one time she had tried eloping with a footman whom she loved, but soon discovered that he loved her father’s money more. Several years after her mother had dies, the Earl remarried and the new Countess was eager for Sophia to marry and move out. Since it appeared to Sophia that the gentlemen who paid attention to her were more interested in her dowry and a connection to a powerful Earl than they were in her, she decided to throw herself into charitable works. Eventually, Sophia’s stepmother made her promise to try and find a husband this year, requiring Sophia to participate in the London Season. While dancing with Hunter Stokes, a man just introduced to her by her stepmother, Sophia began to feel disoriented and ill. Her stepmother whisked her away to an awaiting carriage where a man held a rag to her face, threw her inside, and drove off. Fast forward and Sophia wakes up in a bed in the home of Dr. Faine Knight. She has cuts and bruises all over her body, hurts everywhere, especially her head, and has no memories. What follows is the story of her physical recovery, her interactions with the widowed doctor and his three children, and the relationships they form. Just as things feel like they are falling into place, everything is disrupted and evil strikes again. This story will engage your emotions, ignite your ire, break your heart and have you shaking your head, before it reaches its promised happy ending.

Sophia is the perfect young Lady: kind, caring, doted upon by her father, the earl, heiress to his fortune, and set on keeping the promise she made to her deceased mother - she will only marry love. Not easy when her stepmother keeps pushing her into the throng of vultures. Born a marquess’s fifth son, Faine chose love over society and was cot off from his family. But his wife died, leaving him a heartbroken country doctor and struggling father to their children. Boisterous and wilful, they are his greatest challenge and the only reason wake up every morning. Until one day his son finds a woman, bruised and battered, barely alive, lying in the woods. Against his own better judgement, Faine takes her into his home and when she wakes without a memory, he finds he cannot let her go.
He’s frustratingly stubborn, lives his life in boxes and is so bloody angry at the world. Stuck in his grief, he’s trying to freeze time and terrified of losing another person he loves - be it his children or her. He wants to love again, but doesn’t know if he can. She’s just as stubborn, frustrated by her inability to remember, and with each passing day a little more in love with the children and their father. She’s the one who forces him to open his eyes, see the world, breathe and start living again.
I was completely absorbed by this fresh Snow White retelling and its perfectly flawed protagonists! The little girl in me was looking for similarities, and the big girl was mesmerised by the delicious slow burn sizzle. The mystery wasn’t that difficult to solve - the stepmom did it, no secrets there - but there was nothing sweet and sappy about this tale either. It’s raw emotion, vulnerability, conflict, growth, mistakes and make-ups. The whole thing unravels slowly and blossoms. It was simply enthralling with a nice evil twist at the end, and yes, the witch-hunt continues in the next book... I can’t wait!
Widower, father, and doctor Faine Knight discovers an unconscious woman in the woods and, like any true knight, decides to bring her back to his home for recovery. When she awakes, she has no memory of who she is or how she got there. Her internal monologue in these moments was so well-done and I appreciated how the author handled these initial thoughts and anxieties when waking up with amnesia. Despite her lack of a memory, she does has instincts that tend toward kindness, care, and fun particularly when it comes to Faine’s children. As Dr. Knight fights his growing attraction for his patient, Sophia navigates her lack of memory and horny thoughts for her doc.
Faine & Sophia Boy’s got a temper on him, and I truly like this dichotomy of Faine being both a doctor/caregiver but also a bit of an a-hole. It adds layers to his character and made me like him more than if he was just generically vanilla, which is what I often expect from his character type. Clearly man is grumpy for a reason, and watching Sophia slowly break down those walls was sweet. The moments where she is explaining to him when and how he’s in the wrong, particularly when it comes to his children, were so poignant and needed. Faine feels so lost in parenting by himself, and he honestly needs the help. I was so happy to see him grow out of the somewhat toxic relationship he had with his eldest daughter (all bred from fear) and truly let her be herself by the end of the novel.
This author did a fantastic job with her debut novel! It had all the ingredients for a great historical romance and was told with a refreshing voice. While I’m typically not a fan of the amnesia trope, I do love a good fairytale/myth retelling and this book seamlessly folded these together. There weren’t too many twists and turns, but the character’s growth and change provided a great base for this story. I’m excited to see where Dylan’s story takes us, and see how Anastasia continues to build this fairytale world. If you enjoy historical romances with a fairytale twist, definitely check out this debut!
3.75 rounded to 4 ⭐️. Thank you to the author for an eARC of this debut.
I don’t usually read remade stories, however I decided to read this one because I do like regency romances. Anastasia Hayward has written “Sophia White and her Seven Promises”, book one of her upcoming Historical Ever After series. This is the first book I have read written by this author. This story touched on elements we find in fairy tales—the widowed noble, an evil stepmother, henchmen, and an innocent young woman. Lady Sophia made a promise to her mother that she would wed for love, a promise she was determined to keep. What Sophia hadn’t anticipated was the passing of her mother and her father remarrying a woman with ulterior motives, mainly getting her hands on the family wealth. Definitely the basis for a fairy tale. Sophia ends up injured and amnesiac while trying to survive her stepmother’s machinations. She is taken in by a country doctor, Faine Knight, a widower with children. Of course the man in the story has closed off his heart because of past hurts. This sets the stage for the love story between Sophia and Faine. It took awhile to get into the heart of the story. The pacing was a bit off. The characters were typical for this type of story. The intimacies, while steamy, seemed forced, I didn’t get a sense of natural chemistry between the two. No surprises along the way, everything played out as you would expect. Overall, I was disappointed with this predictable story.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review, my thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
Sophia White is the daughter of the Earl of Winland. She made a promise to her mother before she passed that she would only marry for love. She always keeps her promises.
Faine Knight is the son of a marquess and is a physician. He defied his father to marry for love years ago and left society. His loved passed away and he closed his heart to love only focusing on his children and treating people.
Faine finds Sophia in the forest hurt and in need of medical help. He struggles with what to do since he keeps his work separate from his family. Against his struggles he takes her home to help her recover. As Sophia recovers the barriers that he has built over the years start to crumble. In the end will love be the ultimate healing?
Snow White is one of my favorite stories and I want to congratulate Anastasia Hayward on her wonderful job of retelling this story!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and thought it was fabulous!! You could feel all the emotions in the book from the pain, the sorrow, the struggles and best of all the love throughout the entire book. I particularly enjoyed reading how Sophia broke through Faine’s barriers to show him how to have fun, enjoy life and love again. The children were absolutely delightful and really added to the story. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next book in the series!!
I had the distinct pleasure of reading an advance copy!
Given how much I enjoy the authors social media content I wasn't surprised by how much this clever, funny story had me giggling and kicking my feet. I'm not usually a fan of stories with children, but the little girl in particular in this was so SO STINKIN CUTE. I also adore the amnesia and caring MMC tropes so this was a slam dunk for me. The ethereal nature of the prose and the wittyness gave me strong Mercedes Lackey 500 kingdoms vibes (a fav series of mine). I also loved how the FMCs entrance into the MMCs family healed so much trauma, it was very satisfying. The tension of waiting to find out when and how she would recover her memories really kept the story moving.
Recommend for fans of - Mercedes Lackey - Fairy tale retelling - Witty banter - Kidnapping - Amnesia - MMC cares for FMC while recovering (a fav of mine) - Physician MMC - Single father - Multiple POVs (not just FMC and MMC) - DRESS SHOPPING - Tearjerkers
This book is a sweet and steamy Regency romance with a fairy tale feel. Lady Sophia promises her mother she will only marry for love, and she takes that promise seriously. I liked her quiet strength and how she senses something is wrong with her father’s new wife before the truth comes out. The danger builds slowly, which kept me interested. Faine Knight is a brooding hero who has been hurt before and lives by strict rules to protect himself. When he finds an injured woman in the woods with no memory, he knows helping her will change everything. I enjoyed watching him struggle between his fear of love and his growing feelings for her. The amnesia adds mystery, and the romance develops naturally. There is good chemistry, emotional moments, and enough steam to make it fun to read. Overall, this is an easy, enjoyable romance with danger, heart, and a happy-ever-after feel. Perfect if you like fairy tale retellings and Regency love stories. I received a complimentary copy from StoryOrigin and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Trust, Promises, Caring Family: A very enjoyable retelling of the old fairytale that didn't quit retell the original, but it was an intriguing romance anyway. The characters were complex, the plot emotionally challenging and the attraction continuously growing Sophia of course had memory loss, but she was kind, smart, courageous and thoughtful. A wonderful character. Faine was a doctor that took exceptional care of her to the point of some frustration on my part. He was a bit controlling until his affection for Sophia finally took over to reach a HEA which was quite terrifying the last few chapters due to the wicked stepmother of course. (A little cliffhanger there) The story had all of the elements I enjoy in a good story. Desire, sizzling passion, chemistry between characters, intense foul play, and a caring wonderful family. Mature Advisory💋💋💋 🙋♀️I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy for my honest thoughts and opinion. 📖Book Rating 4.5 ✔
🔥 Sophia White and Her Seven Promises – A Regency Romance with a Fairy Tale Twist 🔥
If you love Snow White, this loose retelling with Regency elegance and just the right amount of spice, Sophia White and Her Seven Promises is your next must-read.
Sophia’s journey is full of heart and slow-burning passion, especially when it comes to Fain—brutish at first, but with reasons that make his transformation oh-so-satisfying. And let’s not forget the villain—perfectly wicked, cunning, and impossible to ignore, making every moment of victory even sweeter.
With its fairy tale charm, slow-burn romance, and an antagonist you’ll love to hate, this book delivers everything you crave. No actual magic—just the irresistible spark between Sophia and Fain.
💖✨ A must-read for lovers of Regency romance, fairy tale twists, and tension-filled love stories.

This was such a great read. I have come to love stories-based loosely on fairy tales. Sophia White had a hard time of it after her mother passed. She was dealing with not only a broken heart but much guilt also. She had decided to run away with a groom filled with young love after her father, a Marquess told her she could not see him anymore. Her mother was very ill and made her promise to marry only to someone who loved her. Unfortunately, she learned a hard lesson when her fellow was all too happy to take her father's money and leave! Her mother passed while she was gone. When her father remarried the new countess was beautiful on the outside and very evil and nasty person. She didn’t like having a pretty young lady around and disliked how close she was with her father. While her father was busy her step mother told her she needed to marry this season. She wanted her out of the house. Dr. Faine Knight gave up a lot for love. He was the son of and Earl and use to society and its expectations. But when he met his wife, it was love at first sight. Now he is a country doctor with three children trying his best to survive and keep everyone happy too. He is also worried about what could happen if his kids are not where he can watch the. As the oldest, Silas is a lad who dreams of being a soldier. His father is totally against it. His oldest daughter, Eleanor wants to help people like he does. She like looking for herbs and plants. The baby, Aurelia just wants to be loved, and have someone to talk to her and spend time with her. Faine keeps the kids away from everyone except their governess. He never brings patients home till his son finds a lady near dead in the woods and he must care for her. She is badly injured and he doesn’t know if she will live. After weeks of his care, she awakes not knowing who she is, where she is from or anything about her life. As she heals, she meets the children to Faines dislike. But with her in the house they end up spending time together. As all grow closer, and Faine starts having feeling for her. Neither have any idea how much trouble she is in. Her father has hired Mr. Stokes an ex solider and investigated who finds lost people. Her father is beside himself, all he knows is what her stepmother told him. They were at a ball and a strange man took She was feeling ill after dancing. Lies, all lies. After promising her mother, Sophia feels promise are very important and not to be made lightly. As she makes promises to the children and Faine she knows she needs to keep them no matter what. I loved the interaction between all the characters and how they helped each other. This story was not only a romance, but a mystery and had a lot of suspense too. Many secrets are uncovered. Lots of twist and turns you will not see coming. I was a little disappointed by the ending but the epilogue helped some. Am looking forward to the next story which is going to be about Faines brother, Dylan. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion an am freely giving it.
This was an interesting slant on the original tale and one that I soon found pleasantly enthralling.
Both of the main characters (Sophia & Faine) are multi-layered and consistent.
The supporting characters range from the expected (a "dark, dangerous stranger", the "strict but loving father", and the "scheming stepmother") to the simply charming (and very believable) children of Faine's household.
There is no "need" for a sequel however I really liked the characters so certainly wouldn't object if one should appear in the future. In the meantime, however, I'd definitely recommend you read this one!
(I was fortunate to receive an ARC however the above is, as ever, my own opinion.)
I enjoyed this book so much! Faine and Sophia's story was engaging, entertaining, and intriguing. The characters were so relatable and authentic. I could sense the loss and pain of the couple's individual struggles, and Elenora's desire to be seen by her father and pursue her dreams. Auriella was adorable in her innocence, yet at times, there was a wisdom that belied her young age. I hated for this story to end, so I'm glad a sequel is coming.

This is a Regency romance retelling of Snow White. I have a soft spot for Regency romance, and I enjoy fairytale retellings, so this sparked my interest.
I enjoyed this; it was romantic and satisfyingly spicy, and I thought it was an interesting take on the original story, touching on some darker elements as well. I'd be interested to see if this author has written anymore like this one.

I love fairytales and as an adult, I really enjoy various versions of them. So this book caught my attention and I'm delighted it did. My only negative is it's a continuous story and those aren't really my favorites. Sophia is lovely and when she falls into the wrong hands, losing her memory only to be found by a young boy, her adventure begins. Bringing her home to his doctor father, Faine seems the thing to do. Evenly paced with delightful characters, a good villain and more, this one is a keeper even if I have to wait for the next book.
What an interesting take on Sleeping Beauty. I quite enjoyed this Regency twist. There were times that I didn't like Cecilia's manipulations - they all came from a good place with pure motives - but still. In the end Faine was happy, the kids were happy and Cecilia/Lady Sophia was happy so who am I to quibble? This reads with more of a modern feel to the language - purists you are warned.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
An wonderfully executed retelling of Snow White. Definitely for adults and not Young Adults, as there is steamy, hot, spiciness.
Faine is a widower, country physician, his days are filled with patients and nights with his children. When a women is found in the woods, unconscious and wounded, he takes her in to help her heal. She doesn't remember anything, not even her name, but still turns his life around.

This was an enchanting and beautifully written original regency fairytale adaptation. It had drama, action, betrayal, intrigue, amnesia, mystery, kidnapping, villains, revenge, and so many emotional issues and twists that kept me very entertained. The characters were interesting and likable, and the children were delightful. I enjoyed the characters' growth and how it had a perfect blend of a sweet and spicy passion. I recommend reading.
Widower Doctor Faine Knight is called upon when a young women is found unconscious in the woods. To complicate matters she has no memory of who she is. He takes her to his house to recuperate and there they fall in love. Steamy historical romance with a mystery to solve.

Sophia White tried to run off with the estate manager who only did it for the money. Her mother died while she tried to run away. She was definitely young and not bright.
Fast forward, her pops is remarried and she meets Faine when she’s injured and lost her memory. A few nods to Snow White but with steam.
I enjoyed this book about a socialite whose father supported her desire to marry for love. It’s an interesting twist on Snow White, wicked stepmother and all. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. The characters Sophia and Faine were lovable and well developed as were Faine’s children. However, the conclusion left some hanging threads.
The characters are vivid and engaging! The intrigue and twists evolve this beyond a fairy tale retelling! Love the chemistry between Faine and Sophia and the mystery surrounding Hunter...

I really enjoyed the writing style and how the characters show their personality in a natural way through their thoughts and words. I liked that the characters had realistic flaws, fears, and motivations. And of course, the happily ever after!
This was a really well written boook. This was done by a new to me author. I really cannot wait to read another book by this author. this book was so enduring.
