A rebirth, second chance story about a proud, spoiled, and haughty princess who's married off to a general for political reasons.
In the first timeline, she couldn't stand her husband's vulger, lustful nature, and lack of manners and always looked at him with disgust. As a result, within a couple of years, her husband dies fighting on the battlefield while his family is unjustly accused of treason and exiled or killed. It's only after his death that she begins to regret her decision to divorce. After rebirth, when the princess wakes up in the 2nd timeline, a year into their marriage, she decides to treat her husband better this time around and prevent his family from falling into a pit of political machinations.
If you like proud, tsundere charcaters who only soften their edges for one person, you'll probably like this. The romance is sweet and has a steady buildup with the characters slowly understanding one another and falling in love. But it is mostly surrounded by a lot of political drama and scheming as the princess tries to prevent the tragedy of the first timeline from repeating itself. Time also moves pretty fast with the story spannning almost 7 years and following the changes in the lives of these characters. But it is fairly easy to understand despite spending so much time on court politics. Overall, 4 stars for an easy, breezy romance about two people learning to communicate and compromise while living together as a married couple.

The best Cnovel I've read in a good while. Absolutely loved it!
I'm sure I'll reread it again. But I am still sad that I won't be able to read it again for the first time😭😭😭
Our FL, Hua Yang, the most favored princess of the emperor, goes back in time after her husband's death who she despised for being ungentlemanly (lustful) and unrefined (men being men) before. And she redresses her regrets so that her loved ones can have a good ending.
I loved Hua Yang's character. She was arrogant and always maintained etiquette befitting of her status. She was a tsudere through and through. She may not even say one sweet word to the ML but her love for him was obvious.
The same can be said for our ML, Chen Jingzong. Let alone, Hua Yang, even I wanted to beat him up sometimes. His antics were a delight to read. Thankfully, he didn't follow the typical male lead route. He was unserious but never joked around in major matters. Even when Hua Yang was arrogant and despised him, and he became frustrated because of it, he never took it out on her, just called her "his ancestor" 😏😏 iykyk
One thing is for sure though. 24/7 without any break, this man constantly thinks about specific bedroom sports with his ancestor🤣🤣
Many may say that the disaster of their marred life previously was solely the FL's problem or the ML's problem. But I disagree, both of them were equally stubborn and hard-mouthed and even prejudiced towards each other. The circumstances also didn't allow them to have a sweet married life.
However, in the current timeline, the sweetness more than made up for it. Be warned, the romance here isn't much in quantity that it would give you toothache but there would be some lines here and there that would send you pink bubbles. On top of that, the bickering of the couple was one of my most favorite part of the novel.
Chen Tingjian, the ML's father, was another fascinating character. His relationship with his wife, Sun shi, was delightful. This old man couldn't take a break from his fourth son😆😆
Chen Jingzong was also jealous of Hua Yang's admiration for his father and brothers. I especially enjoyed the chess games between Hua Yang and Chen Tingjian, this pair of father-in-law and daughter-in-law.
And sorry for misunderstanding our Eldest young master Chen, Chen Bozong. This man is cold on the outside but hot on the inside for his wife, Yu Xiu. For Yu Xiu, I can only say, go girl!
The third brother, Chen Xiaozong, was also slick as fox. His banter and teasing of his brothers was hilarious.
And how can I forget Empress Qi, FL's mother? I felt bad for her especially towards the end. She didn't deserve her ending in the previous life. She was the typical Asian mother though.
But Emperor Jingsun's last moments really made me cry. He can barely be considered a good but lazy emperor. He was a scumbag husband. However, undoubtedly he was a great father. His concern and affection for his daughter, Hua Yang, was genuine. Even in his dying moments, he didn't forget to care for her😭😭
Yet, at the same time, I feel complicated towards FL's brother. He was a normal teenager who got easily influenced by others. But he was also an emperor who mixed personal with professional affairs. He was the only one who didn't get his just ending. I guess, it wouldn't have been possible either way.
Qi Jin was disgusting though. I am glad that for Hua Yang, he was just a passerby all along.
Phenomenal historical Chinese web novel. Would absolutely recommend. Kudos to the translator too for doing such a great job👍🏻👍🏻

I have... hm slightly mixed feelings about this book like I think maybe some cross cultural aspects got me like I don't "respect" the princess enough? I thought she was a dislikable brat. Felt she felt she was "owed" too much just as a princess. Was ML sometimes gross, sure, yes, but he changed a LOT for her.
Also these two idiots why couldn't they ever COMMUNICATE with each other?! BUT at least they had this tacit understanding ... and for the "little things" neither cared enough to clarify. They're both smart enough - ML being much smarter. He just doesn't give a fuck for a lot of stuff.
And 😅 is really into FL's looks.
Honestly it just ... for a LOT didn't seem they liked each other at all? I dunno.
Dunno if it was the translator's tone either. [Which I know they just "edit" MTL. And they went through a lot while working on that book so....] *sighs*
I've been thinking about the book though and feel I do need to give FL more credit for steadily working to change "everything" from her past life/resolve all seven charges against her FIL. But TBH seriously it almost felt more like she was way way WAY more into her FIL than ML. And the thing is he even notices and comments on it like a LOT. I just ... t;oigjro;stjknrwglkrt
I did like this book. But ... I dunno about re-reading it. It's definitely interesting - just the romance is ... lacking. It man I dunno. Can't even really think of sweet moments. I guess other than him carrying her up the mountain for the sunrise on her birthday.
I did like her she had candid conversations with her FIL and her empress mother once she got older. And she realized what was going on with her younger brother once he became emperor.
ML really overall was so so so so so good to her.
TBH like 50% of what was good about this book were the hilarious author's notes. [Really missed those in the google translate book I read by this author...]

In Reborn After Widowhood, Hua Yang cannot stand her husband - right up until he dies. Now that she's a widow, Hua Yang misses the good things that she had overlooked in Chen Jinzong (the husband). So when Hua Yang is given the chance to try again, will she treat her Prince Consort differently?
I actually enjoyed every piece and particle of this book. The only thing the article could have done better was make a pairing that I just knew couldn't happen, but still liked the thought of.
I would not consider this a Marriage in Crisis, but communication between the two parties could have helped the situation. Somehow, despite the two deliberately riling each other up, they manage to implicitly trust each other from very early on. This novel is really just about the journey, and it's an enjoyable one.
If you like, rebirth, marriage stories, and good people, this is worth a read.

I love it! I didn't expect to like it as much as I do but I really do. I was laughing most of the time because of the ML and FL. I love their banter as well as the banter between the Chen brothers. The pacing of the story was very good for a very used up trope in Chinese webnovels.
I find that a story is really good when ai love not just the main characters but also the side characters. There were emotional chapters where I shed some tears as well. This is definitely a must-read!

As you all know, I will read anything with rebirth but what I hate the MOST is when the next birth is wasted by being pedantic ! I am of the opinion that no time with any of the characters should be wasted even at the expense of "slice of life" tag. Lack of planning, slow execution and vexing FL.
