Creepy Christmas
Strange things are occurring in the neighbourhood. A mysterious snowfall, one Santa too many, and eyes of coal that watch you wherever you go.

Kaity is a ten year old girl who hates her mom’s new boyfriend. She wants to get her parents back together as quickly as possible. But to do that, she needs the new boyfriend out of the picture. Preferably before Christmas.
One day she wakes up and there’s a snowman in her garden. Not just her garden, but every garden. Her mom’s quite excited that someone went through such great lengths to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. But Kaity thinks there’s something off about them.
After school, Kaity goes to her dad’s work. He’s a shopping mall guard. They have two Santas there. One who’s a nice, gentle old man and has his heart in the right place. And a mean one who doesn’t seem to have any of the qualities required to be a Santa. So why did the people at the mall hire the second one?
While the Christmas-themed plot is good, it’s the characters who leap from the pages here. It’s hard not to root for Kaity and her little sister as they desperately want their mom and dad to get back together again, longing for a Christmas miracle. And because Kaity’s so desperate, her attempts don’t sit well with her mother. This hurts their mother/daughter relationship and drives her mother even more into her new boyfriend’s arms.
I do have some small gripes. I feel the antagonist could have been fleshed out a bit more. And I would have liked it if the snowmen had played a bigger part in the story. But apart from that, it really is quite an amusing Christmas story.
It’s like a character-driven Doctor Who story for kids. Which is right up my alley. On one hand you have the family drama, which is the core of the story. And on the other hand, it’s a Christmas-themed story with a light fantasy touch to it. Which is just really fun. A bit slow-paced. But highly enjoyable.

Ten-year-old Kaity (no that isn't a typo) is devastated when her parents separate and her mother invites someone she met via the Internet to come and stay with them. Thankfully she can still see her dad at the mall, where he works as a security guard. And she makes friends with a very charismatic Santa and his remarkable assistant. But things get downright weird when snowmen start popping up out of nowhere, another Santa appears at the mall and toys start doing odd things. The chances of a good Christmas are starting to look pretty slim.
Jaimie Admans does a great job portraying the distress of a little girl--albeit quite a precocious one--in the face of family breakup. And she shows admirable skill in the way she makes her plot unfold. Elements of magical realism are introduced so adroitly that it is easy for the reader to suspend disbelief. And although some very creepy things are going on, the book is filled with comic touches and wry observations.

Jaimie Admans is a phenomenal writer - she has this easy going style that lets you slip in and out of her stories, and yet, still be affected by her themes. Creepy Christmas sees how divorce and separation can affect children. Mix that with the festive season and you've got one loveable, charming, but sorrowful novel.
Does it have a happy ending? Well that's the thing, Jaimie keeps things real. I appreciate that, perhaps above all else. Her sense of magic and of the Santa myth adds a sweet twist to the story, but it is her ability to keep the story grounded throughout that kept me hooked.
It's a tough one to place as it feels very young-adult, but I think Jaimie successfully gets within the mindset of a ten-year old, which is vital and important to note for adult readers. We all know relationships can sometimes end, but it's hard to know how this affects the children, and I think adult readers will get a lot from this wonderful festive story. I also thought the dad in this story being portrayed as the one suffering and struggling refreshing.

I liked the characters and I thought it was a cute Christmas story. However, I could not get over the actions of the mom. She drove me CRAZY! What kind of mother invites someone she DOES NOT KNOW to LIVE with her and her two children?!? I just get so mad thinking about it. Then she badmouthed her ex-husband (Kaity and Pippa's dad) so freaking much in front of them (why call him a psycho?) and I hated it. I just couldn't stand the mom or that part of the storyline. I thought she got off the hook too easily at the end and the story wrapped up too quickly for my taste. Not a bad storyline, just a really bad mom.

Poor ten-year-old Kaity is having a bit of a rough time of things at the moment. Her parents have just split up and her Mum has moved her weird new boyfriend (who she met on the internet – imagine! He could be anybody…) in with her and her younger sister.
Missing her Dad, the one thing Kaity wants for Christmas this year is for her parents to get back together, but things are looking bleak. Or at least they are until she meets the new Santa Claus working in her local shopping mall this year. It’s clear he takes his role very seriously and mysteriously he seems to know rather a lot about Kaity and the predicament that she’s in…
Things are about to get a whole lot weirder when Kaity discovers another Santa Claus at the other end of the mall. As if having two separate Santa’s working in the same building isn’t strange enough, with the arrival of Santa Number Two it looks as though things are set to get rather creepy in the village of Chelferry this Christmas…
Jaimie Admans has been an author I have been wanting to try for ages, so I figured as it’s December I would get stuck in to Creepy Christmas. After reading this funny, magical, heart-warming story all I can do is ask myself why on earth I didn’t read anything by Jaimie sooner…
Creepy Christmas is recommended to be a read for anyone 8 or over, but I can’t see a reason as to why anyone wouldn’t enjoy this lovely, festive, (yet slightly scary!) novel. I am 25 and I loved it (ok, I may still have tendencies to behave like an 8 year old, but regardless…)
Kaity is one clever kid and I thought she was fantastic. Jaimie really brings her to life and your heart will immediately break for her and her sister as their parents split up. I just wanted to give the girl a massive hug and help her with her plan to get her mum & dad back together.
However, Kaity is a tough cookie and extremely smart – she needs no help from me! I loved her determination and her wit; she may only have been ten but she is very savvy indeed and seems wise beyond her years. When the spooky things started happening I would have been hiding under my bed, but not Kaity; she didn’t seem scared in the slightest.
I wasn’t sure how I would find a story narrated by a ten year old but Creepy Christmas completely won me round on that front. I don’t know how Jaimie got into the mind of a little girl experiencing such turmoil at home but she did – and she did it so well.
Creepy Christmas is very, VERY Christmassy and it certainly got me feeling festive. It’s also not called Creepy Christmas for nothing – some of the things that happen freaked me out (those snowmen! Eeek!) But I found this really exciting and it made for a unique and highly addictive storyline. Apart from A Christmas Carol I’ve not really read many stories that balance Christmas with creepy which made Creepy Christmas quite an unusual read for me and certainly something that little bit different.
This is a charming, festive and extremely exciting adventure of a story for all ages. It may be my first Jaimie Admans novel but it certainly won’t be my last…

This is the second Jaimie Admans book I have read and I love it just as much as the other one. Jaimie has a way of making her readers identify with the characters and events in her book whilst also making it out of this world in an almost “you couldn't make it up” kind of way.
In this book Kaity and her sister are in the middle of their parent's divorce and this sets the foreground for some of the events in the book. It's brilliantly paced with a mixture of events which you may or may not see coming. I'd say this book would be suitable for anybody aged 10+. The way Jaimie writes will have even the biggest kids turning pages to find out what's coming next. None of the story feels rushed or forced and it's a really nice way to get into the festive spirit.
I really don't want to say too much about this story line because I really don't want to ruin any of the twists for people who are thinking of reading it. What I will say is this, if you have a child aged 10+ or just fancy reading something fun, buy it. It's worth the money to take a chance and there's a very good chance you'll love it.
Filled with the spirit of Christmas, this book will make you smile and have you turning page after page. There are a couple of minute and barely there typos but you'll be too interested in the story to really notice and they didn't bother me at all.

The title says it all, it’s creepy and it’s Christmas. The story is about Kaity who loves all things Christmassy, But is dreading this years festivities as her recently divorced parents are at each others throat not to mention Mum has a new boyfriend!
Then the local shopping centre decides to hire not one but two Santa’s! One is all Ho-Ho-Ho and the other is all No-No-No! Could this festive season get any worse? I had to ask, didn’t I?!
Weird things are happening and Mums new boyfriend has to go…..But that can a 10 year old girl do? Read Creepy Christmas and find out.
A good read for the teenagers, it’s fun, light hearted and not just a book for Christmas.

And what’s with the snowmen. They mysteriously showed up one night. There’s something not right about them. And was Kaity mistaken, or was the one in her garden now closer to their house?
Anti-Claus is in town and trange scary things start to happen.it’s up to Kaity to get to the bottom of things and save Christmas.
Don’t let the ambiguous cover fool you. This is a delightful and a bit creepy Christmas tale of hope, friendship, and family. There are some heart-warming characters along with some creepy ones.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much depth there actually was to this story.
Grab a cuppa something hot, snuggle in, and enjoy this charming tale.

Although I'm decades older than ten-year-old heroine Kaity, I decided to give this book a try, and am glad I did!
Although it has its spooky / creepy elements, overall it's a charming book, with a strong emphasis on family and friendship, and how to deal with changes in the family dynamic.
Some parts were ... well, a bit creepy ... others were heartwarming; and there is a light touch of humour in Kaity's first-person narrative.
My first Christmassy read of the year, and one which has left me with a warm glow.

This is a book that answers all the questions your child could ever ask about whether Santa is real and how he can possibly be real. There is enough tension and bad guys to keep action fans entertained and enough fluff to keep those who want a gentle happy read satisfied too. The author addresses issues that children will encounter either as individuals or observe their classmates enduring, such as divorce and the pain of seeing parents parents having new relationships, with tact and insight.

Christmas is all about being with your family and loved ones so what do you do when your parents are recently divorced as a 10 year old girl who simply loves Christmas and your family has fallen apart? This story sees Kaity living with her young sister and her Mum who has recently let her new boyfriend, Seth move in but with Christmas approaching can she bring her family back together and get rid of Seth from all of their lives?
With her father working security at a local shopping mall Kaity is delighted that she is going to have the chance to see loads of exciting Christmas decorations and Santa's grotto but when she discovers that there are 2 Santas at the same mall this year can this be a good sign or is this the start of a difficult Christmas for Kaity?
This book is fantastic in the style of writing from Jaimie Admans and has a great flow throughout. I found that all of the characters were well developed and that whilst reading I was visualising the situations going on thanks to the author having worked hard on ensuring that the situations are well described and have a real feel to them throughout. This is a really well written book and if you are looking for a great read in the run-up to Christmas this is well worth checking out.

A cute Christmas Story...
I absolutely love anything written by Jamie Admans and she is a phenomenal writer. She had a very special way of making you connect with the characters and has readers identifying with the events and situations presented within the books pages.
This was a cute Christmas story and enjoyed both the plot and the characters. I don't want to describe the plot too much, not to spoil anything. But, this book brought about a bit of hope and magic, belief and love and was perfect for getting into the Christmas spirit.
Despite the title of the book 'Creepy Christmas', I would probably not describe the book itself as creepy. But instead, a fun, heart felt story of a little girl, Kaity, trying to keep her love for Christmas alive and hope for bringing her parents back together from the midst of divorce.
However, I really did not like the Mum. She drove me a little crazy with her actions and words and thought she was generally just not very nice. I thought she was lucky to get off so light-handedly by the end. The ending also seem to wrap up a little too quickly for me, and felt like there could of been a least another chapter or two.
Overall though, I really enjoyed this wonderfully written book.

Kaity's father is the head of security at a mall. She visits him every afternoon after school. Since it is so near Christmas, Kaity is able to meet the Santa who is setting up to visit with children. She also meets Santa's daughter, Blizzard.
This is a lovely YA story about family, faith, hope and love. It is also about believing.
It is a quick read that brings smiles to the reader. Ms Admans has created a girl who is bright and funny and caring. And she has a plan.

Kaity is a ten-year old girl who lives in Chelferry and is in J6 class at school. Kaity’s parents divorced in June and it’s now December coming up on Christmas. Kaity wants her parents to get back together but her Mom invites Seth, a guy she met on the internet, to stay at their house until Christmas Eve. Kaity has to go stay with her Dad at his job, as Head of the Security at the Mall, after school until Seth is gone. While she is there she meets Santa and his daughter Blizzard. Kaity thinks Seth is to secretive and is up to something. Santa and Blizzard are there to foil the Anti-Claus’s plans to ruin Christmas for everyone. This is a sweet book. Kaity helps Santa and Blizzard with the Anti-Claus. Kaity gets the magic of Christmas feeling back. The beginning is a little slow but picks up and keeps the reader interested. I would definitely read more books by this author.

This was a very fun read and perfect in the Christmas season. A little creepy, but festive also.
Kaity is a 10 year old, and this is her story.
Creepy snowmen suddenly appear in every garden around her block, even though there are no footprints or anything that suggests that people have made them. And no one in her house has been outside before her, still there is a snowman in her garden too. All look the same. Feels like they are watching 👀
And so much more happening....
Absolutely recommend this book.
This was a very fun read and perfect in the Christmas season. A little creepy, but festive also.
Kaity is a 10 year old, and this is her story.
Creepy snowmen suddenly appear in every garden around her block, even though there are no footprints or anything that suggests that people have made them. And no one in her house has been outside before her, still there is a snowman in her garden too. All look the same. Feels like they are watching 👀
And so much more happening....
Absolutely recommend this book.

This was a cute story told from the perspective of a 10 year old girl. The book read smoothly and had short chapters. A great read for kids and adults. I think my 10 year old granddaughter would enjoy it very much. Highly recommended.

This is a very sweet and short Christmas story. It’s got mystery, danger, and a typical Jaimie Admans plucky heroine. I liked it (not as much as North Pole Reform School) although it’s a bit more middle grade than I expected.

A short Christmas story that will appeal to most age groups. Written from a 10 year olds view point it is a heartwarming tale about friendship and family. Anybody who loves a Christmas tale will enjoy this story with an added bit of creepiness and a large helping of intuition.

Creepy Christmas is a very quick and enjoyable read. Every chapter has some bit of action in it and often ends with a cliffhanger that you just can’t help but read the next one, and the next one, and the next … until you’ve come to the crisis and climax and you just have to know how it all turns out! Kaity is a compelling narrator and protagonist. At all of 10-years-old, she carries the weight of trying to reconcile her parents, being a good role model to her younger sister, and helping to save Christmas all on her shoulders. With all that on her plate, it’s surprising that Kaity gets on as well as she does, but she manages to bear her mother’s new boyfriend—who does not treat the girls very well—and false and highly unfair accusations made against her with composure. She struggles to discover the reason an evil Santa has set up shop in the mall, find ways of proving to her mother that Seth is not who he seems, and deal with the various changes in her and Pippa’s life that were created by her parents’ separation, and yet Kaity manages to befriend the kind Santa in the mall and his daughter, Blizzard. This newfound friendship may be just what both girls need in order to survive one very creepy Christmas.
Story & Pacing: 8
The plot is easy to follow—conflicts and mysteries abound in Kaity’s life! And the story is divided into digestible chapters that make them highly interesting and easy to read. It won’t be difficult at all to read this novel in one sitting as I did.

Kaity is lovable. She is kind to her sister and observant about the characters around her. You can tell how much she loves her family, as this resonates throughout the story. It’s very easy to like her, Pippa, and Blizzard.
Setting: 7
There isn’t a whole lot said about the geographical setting of this book. Most of the story takes place either in Kaity’s home or the mall in which her dad is head of security. The latter is a great choice for there are so many obstacles which Admans could have—and often did—throw in Kaity’s way.
Style & Writing: 7
My biggest problem with this story is Admans’ use of language. Kaity just does not sound like a normal 10-year-old, and Pippa certainly does not talk like any 5-year-old I know. I couldn’t determine if this story’s audience were meant to be middle-graders, teens, or adults. The characters meld with one another on the basis of their speeches because they all fairly sound alike. It was hard to believe that a 10-year-old would use “orifices”, “commercialism”, “underestimate the value of a good cry”, and “farfetched” in an everyday (or any-day) conversation. If Kaity were 12 or 13, it would have been much more believable that she would be speaking with such lofty language. Perhaps Admans’ prolific vocabulary poured out into her characters a little too much to make them as believable as they could have been.
Learnability & Teachability: 7
Middle-graders might enjoy this book. Despite her sometimes advanced turns of phrases, Kaity is a character to whom many girls can relate. If anything, it’s a great read for some of the themes that can be explored, including that of family and togetherness being more important than gifts at Christmastime.

This book is not really "creepy," as it's more about Kaity's family, and the spirit of Christmas. Sure, the creepier parts are slightly unsettling, but not something in the way of real horror. If you're not into horror, don't worry. I'm a total chicken when it comes to horror and I liked this book. Admans' humour shines through her writing, and this book is a fun quick read. I wouldn't really classify it as for children as there are some things that are meant for an older audience, so don't think of it as just another children's book.The plot revolves around Kaity, a young girl dealing with her parents' separation and the entrance of her mum's new boyfriend. Seriously, I had to facepalm at Kaity's mother sometimes for her decisions. She hasn't known this man for a very long time and she was already allowing him to stay in her home with her two young daughters. It's a bit... Honestly, I could see why Kaity's dad was so angry. Her parents' relationship is something I wish could have been expanded on more, like the reason behind their separation.
But anyway, the characters are a lot of fun to read. Kaity is a pretty mature ten-year-old, and there were moments when I thought she was older than she actually was. I might have placed her age at about thirteen or fourteen, given her narration. Her relationship with her younger sister, Pippa, is just so sweet. They look out for each other, and she's so caring and responsible for Pippa. Love it! Her relationship with her father was also really cute because he doesn't treat her like a naive little girl (at least for the most part). As for her mother, I wish their relationship had been more fleshed out. But it was a short book, so I understand.
The fantastical elements of the plot were pretty fun. Like I said, nothing super creepy, just more like unsettling. If this were a full-fledged YA book, I could definitely see this book getting darker and scarier. As it is though, it was an interesting fantasy adventure. Admans has a great grasp of character-writing, pacing, and humour, so I really enjoyed reading this book.
Overall: This book gets four stars, because it has great characters, a fun plot that's suspenseful but not over-the-top, and good pacing. Pick this up if you're looking for something quick to read this Christmas season!

Ten year old Kaity loves Christmas. What she and her little sister Pippa really want for the holiday is for their recently divorced parents to get back together. There’s a complication though: their mother has met a man on the internet and moved him into the basement.
Kaity’s father doesn’t want her spending time at home with Seth before her mother gets home from work, so Kaity spends her afternoons at the mall where her father is head of security. That’s where she meets this year’s mall Santa and his helper, a twelve year old girl named Blizzard who has hair dyed as red as Santa’s suit. Kaity is immediately drawn to them.
It turns out that Santa is the real Santa and Blizzard is his daughter (and sleigh navigator). But Santa isn’t the only mall Santa this year. There’s another one, who sets up in a back hallway and offers free toys as an incentive to get children to visit with him.
Meanwhile, strange things are happening in other parts of town. Kaity’s noticed that each house on her street (including her own) has an identical snowman in the front yard — but who could have built them? The first time she sees them, it’s too early in the morning for the children to have been outside playing. And they never seem to melt. It’s not long before Kaity sense that the snowmen are WATCHING her. It’s up to Kaity, with the help of her new friend Blizzard, to get to the bottom of things.
I really enjoyed reading about Kaity’s afternoons at the mall. While it wasn’t her idea to go there every day after school, she doesn’t mind too much. She gets to spend time with her father while he’s working and she pretty much has the run of the place because he can watch over her on the security cameras. What kid wouldn’t love having a whole mall as a playground?
Admans has a real knack for adding an unusual twist to her Christmas stories. I had a little trouble getting into Creepy Christmas at first, but that may have had something to do with other things going on in my life. I’m glad I pressed on, because once I did get into it, Creepy Christmas was a quick and fun read. Book Review Creepy Christmas - Jaimie Admans
Christmas is magic and a time for family to be together, this is the belief that Katie the protagonist of this story holds. She has the fondest memories of her family sharing the day together from her whole short life.
But this year is different Katie and her younger sister Pipi are facing spending this year’s Christmas day with Seth a stranger that their mother met over the internet. Katie realizes that things will be very different this year and she is not happy with the change. Like most little girls Katie idealises her father and understandably wants him back in the house.
But there are also other changes this year, creepy ones, like the snow men moving and there coal eyes watching her every move, a fairy that won’t stay on the Christmas tree and worse an extra Father Christmas in the shopping mall. A normal child may not have noticed the importance of changes, but Katie who shares some traits with her father who is a security guard at the mall, notices them all.
I really enjoyed that the story was narrated by ten year old Katie, who is a well-rounded and instantly likable and believable charter. I think that Jamie Admans was wise to choose us to view the story though the young protagonist; as after all children are more open to magical happenings than adults, and seeing he story unfold from a ten year olds perspective made it all seem so real and so much more creeper at times.
Jaimie Admans is an enchanting young adult fiction writer who has an endless and amazing imagination; she has created a magical tale with creepy Christmas. I would recommend it to over ten year olds to read themselves as it is easy to read and written in a humorous and heart-warming way.
She currently has four other books, Kismetology, Afterlife Academy, North Pole Reform School and Not Pretty Enough, but as a committed and passionate writer who is still in her 20’s I am sure many more will soon follow, to delight her readers.
