🧡 August Teaser 🧡

“I shift my weight down onto my knees on her kitchen floor and drag her chair forward so she’s that much closer to me. With a steady hand, I brush her hair from her face and tuck it behind her ear, before settling my grasp on the back of her chair. ‘You’ve never what, Shortcake?’

‘My father would have loved you, you know,’ she replies instead, a gut punch to my fucking heart. ‘He was more of a talker than you, and that would have driven you crazy, but you would have loved each other. He always told me, When you meet the man who settles your racing heart, but is the reason it’s racing to begin with, that’s the man you should marry. I didn’t listen to his advice when I met you, and I really wish I would have.’

Fuck, her soft admission slices right through me. I knew there was a corner to turn here with us, but I didn’t expect this one-eighty. Three years of feelings dropped at my feet. Walls obliterated, and Rae looking at me like… that. Like every feeling I’ve felt for her since my first day at Loretta’s is finally being reciprocated—openly.

I watch her nervously tuck another piece of stray hair behind her ear, breath hitched in her throat, blue eyes wide and conveying every fucking thing I’ve wished she’d express for far too long.

Lifting my hands, I frame her face between my palms. ‘Then we listen now, Rae. We take his advice now.’

{…}

She nods, but I can see her swallowing through the emotions clogging her throat. ‘I’m nervous, Ty. I don’t know what this means. This conversation, what you, here, in my kitchen, means right now.’

‘It means I don’t give a fuck what happened before last night. I want you. If you want me, I want you. It’s that simple.’

‘You’re not angry with me?’

‘No.’ I shake my head. ‘I’m not angry with you.’

‘How?’ she asks. ‘How is it that simple?’

‘I don’t know, Rae. It just feels that way. We’ll take it slow, but we’ll figure it out as we go.’

‘But… what does that mean?’

‘It means whatever we want it to mean.’

‘But what does that mean?’

My laughter bubbles to the surface. ‘It means, Rae,’ I lift a hand, finger slipping through a belt loop on her shorts and dragging her closer, ‘whatever the fuck we want it to mean.’ And my lips finally claim hers—easy, so fucking easy, in the way they fit together and mold into one. Like she was made for me. Like her mouth was only ever meant to be met with mine.

I just have to figure out how the fuck I manage to keep her forever.”

Another beautiful novella by Michelle Chamberland. I still have no idea how she fits so much emotion into these pages. The end made me teary eyed. 🥹 I loved reading about Rae and Tyler and that we also got to see more of Harlan and Brie. 🧡 These novellas have my heart. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
