She’s a silent angel bound to misery… and the weakness he never saw coming.
Rose I was a good girl. I followed the rules, did what I was told, and signed the songs of my people every Sunday morning at the Chapel. But everything changed when I lost my voice. Since then, a crack of doubt has been spreading in my mind like wildfire. So when I saw my new neighbor move in with his bike and his breathtaking tattoos, I couldn’t resist, like a moth drawn to a flame. Only I didn’t know that I couldn’t keep my light without learning to dance with his darkness. Between duty and freedom, what choice will I make?
Vox I thought I’d never feel this…ache in my chest again. After the accident, I held on to the things that kept me my bike and my brothers. But the walls I’ve built around my heart keep crumbling down each time I see my Angel. I should push her away, protect her from my dark and twisted world. But she awakens in me the primal urge to protect her and save her from her cult. Only she doesn’t know that the price of her freedom will be my sacrifice. Will I save myself from hurting again, or will I jump from a cliff and save my Angel ?
Whispers of Fire is an MC Club Romance standalone and the first of The Raven Sons MC Club series. This book is a closed-door romance with heavy swoon and a fair share of morally gray behaviors. Please read the trigger warnings before reading (stalking, possessive behaviors, emotional and physical torture…). All the characters are 18+.
I am NEVER going to trust Instagram reels again. Like, NEVER.
This book… I don’t even know how to describe it. Honestly, I’m not sure why I finished it in the first place there wasn’t a single reason to keep reading. But I needed something to read, and somehow, this ended up being the choice.
At first, I thought, Oh, he’s a biker, and she’s mute and innocent. That seems cool. But there were so many issues with this book, and I just can’t put them into words.
Congratulations to me for reaching the deepest, most obscure part of Instagram.
Guys, this has no smut in it. But it is such a good book, honestly, it gives you all the feels and the cute stalking he does it's just perfect. I really really liked it.
Did I start this JUST because the MMC was a biker? of course. Did I like it as much as I thought I would? I don't know, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't something wow either.
It was easy, fun, a cute read, but it was repetitive quite a lot, and it felt bland... The same things happened, and I got tired of the author mentioning the 'CHICKS FROM THE CLUB' every third page.
Long story short, she is a mute girl who is in some kind of bullshit cult because of her parents believing in some utter craps and they follow some even shittier leader who is actually a rapist and involved in some shady gang shit but everyone follows him for some weird believing in something. The women MUST be obedient, wear long ass boring, granny-like clothes, their hair must be 24/7 in a braid... Everyone in this cult shit are not allowed to eat anything much besides some porridge and oats, they don't talk or connect with other people because everything outside of this cult is known as "THE OUTSIDE WORLD" (this felt like a Harry Potter reference - with the muggles), they get punished with drowning and a lot of crazy stuff if they break some stupid "rule", so she is not allowed to talk with anyone but alas the biker get obsessed and he puts cameras to keep an eye on her... because why not :) and the rest is history...
The thing I loved the most in this book is HOW RESPECTFUL THIS MAN WAS ohmygod. He was so patient with her, soft, understanding, STARTED LEARNING SIGN LANGUAGE FOR HER, never rushed her to do something she wasn't feeling comfortable to do, never made fun of her because she didn't knew A LOT of things, he thought her so so much, cooked for her, read to her (they weren't allowed to read books from "the outside world" - what a bullshit) and saved her from her cult, oohhh WHAT A GENTLEMAN AM I RIGHT?!?!?!
"I'll read to you. Just come here and I'll take care of you."
It had zero smut and it was slow as fuck, which I didn't mind the smut part, but being slow burn and repetitive pulled my anger issues out a little bit. Only fluffy, cute scenes, they kiss like 3 or 4 times, and that's it.
🕷Biker mmc x sweet mute girl 🕷Biker club x cult shit 🕷Grumpy (secretly a softie) x sunshine 🕷Age gap 🕷Strangers (neighbours) to friends? to lovers 🕷Forbidden love
It was cute. I personally got annoyed with how much the author emphasized Vox’s southern accent. Like having almost all words that end in “ing” shortened to ‘in was annoying me. There was a paragragh that had the slang in it probably 7 times. And personally the usage of “hum” really confused me.
Again everyone has their own preferences and these were really my only problems. It is overall a cute story and tow good characters.
I found it last night and had to finish it immediately. Vox is a dumbass sometimes but usually very cute, like what do you mean maybe she wants to stay in the cult and get married to someone 50 years her senior,,,,,ITS A CULT WHO CARES GET HER OUT OF THERE. Other than that he's good, Rose is an inspiration and an amazing character.
🗣️📢🔊‼️Ares is as bad as the Shepard and anyone who doesn't see that needs their head checked. Put me right back into my reading slump. You'll experience a massive amount of rage if you decide to read it. Good luck.
Read up to 23% but couldn't keep going. It sounded really intresting but the writing felt like a wattpad book. Also lots of conflicting things which got on my nerves.
2.5 Stars This book was a solid 2.5 stars. It started out pretty rad– and by started out, i mean the first few pages were decent. I thought it captured the cult atmosphere pretty well and thought it would be a pretty decent book. But then… I got to Vox’s (the MMC whos apparently supposed to be a bad boy and a black hearted dude but i see that literally nowhere) POV. And what the flipping floppers. ITS LIKE HE HAS A GRUDGE AGAINST THE LETTER G. OR SHOULD I SAY RUDE AGAINST THE LETTER G. LIKE ALMOST EVERY OTHER WORD HE WOULD HAVE THE “n’”. I GET IT. YOU HAVE A SOUTHERN ACCENT. I DONT NEED TO BE REMINDED EVERY FIVE SECONDS. Anyway, after I started noticing the sucky POV for Vox, I started paying more attention to the actual writing itself. And oh my goodness, it SUCKED. The writing seemed like it straight off Wattpad and was written by a 10 year old. The plot was decent but oh good golly, that was very concerning writing. The world building sucked pretty bad and out of all the things to describe someone’s scent, the author thought, “manly scent” was just absolutely PERFECT for the job. ALSO MY FRIEND AND I MADE FUN OF THIS BUT IT SAID HE HAD A MANLY VOICE BUT IN THE NEXT SENTENCE HIS TONE WAS BREATHY???? HE WAS LIKE “Feeling better?” AND SHE MOANED. LIKE I GET YOU CAN’T SPEAK BUT YOU COULD JUST NOD??? Anyway, so another thing that I thought while reading this book was “damn thats so sweet that he calls her cute and adorable” But then it kept happening. Over and over. Literally you couldnt go a page without it. LIKE WE GET THE IDEA. YOU LOVE HER YADA YADA. But by now I feel like its fairly clear this isnt a huge dark romance vibe. ALSO, I LOVE NICKNAMES, BUT “ANGEL” WAS USED WAYYYYYY TOO MANY TIMES AND WAY TOO OFTEN. Another thing i didn’t like was the way that (also really quick, forgot to mention, hes in this “club” type thing thats really just a biker gang) bro was told by Ares (the head biker leader dude) that he couldn’t see Rose (the FMC) anymore and he had to move to Seattle which was halfway across the country. But like…. Vox killed Mr. Collins, a cult teacher who beat Rose…. So why couldn’t he kill the Shepherd (the cult leader)??? LIKE IT WOULDVE SAVED SO MUCH TIME but whatever. ALSO THE SYNOPSIS SAYS ITS A “BIKER X SHY GIRL” THE FLIP YOU MEAN “SHY GIRL”. I MEAN YEAH SURE IF BEING SHY MEANS YOU LITERALLY CANNOT SPEAK AND ARE SCARED OF BEING DROWNED AND BEATEN BY YOUR FATHER FOR LOOKING AT A GUY FOR TOO LONG THEN SURE PAL. THATS SHY. AND I SAW A REVIEW WHERE IT SAID THAT VOX WAS GRUMPY. IM SORRY— GRUMPY???? LITERALLY WHERE. IS GRUMPY IN THE ROOM WITH US? BECAUSE I DONT SEE IT. AT ALL. Part of the problem with this book is that its a lot of telling and not a whole lot of showing. Like Vox TELLS us that he’s a monster with a black heart and that he’s a ruthless killer but you don’t really SEE it. Until the end of course which i will get to soon. Anyway so later on in the book Vox ends up taking Rose on a bike ride and they’re looking out over a hillside (or a mountain idek) and he decides that right then, in that exact moment when she was happy, that would be the time to tell her he was ordered to seattle and couldnt save her from her arranged marriage. Mind you, just a few hours earlier Rose found a contract that the parents signed to the Shepherd that basically said “yeah no one will spill the beans if you only use our children only for sex”. Anyway, so he broke the news to her and obviously she was upset BUT THEN HE WAS ALL LIKE “I DONT WANT YOU INVOLVED IN CLUB BUSINESS, ITS MESSY” (AGAIN, TELLING NOT SHOWING) AND THEN HE PROCEEDED TO THINK THINGS LIKE “I HAVE FAITH THAT SHE COULD ESCAPE ON HER OWN” MY GUY, SHES BEEN INDOCTRINATED AND IS ONLY RECENTLY DOUBTING WHAT HER CULT HAS BEEN TELLING HER. SHE DOESNT KNOW SHEET ABOUT THE OUTSIDE WORLD. AND YOU EXPECT HER TO COME UP WITH SOME EINSTEIN MASTERMIND PLAN???? SHUT THE FLIP UP. Anyway he ends up kissing her and is like “we can live together, ill take you with me to seattle” and he takes her home and then goes back to the club where Ares is all like “NOPE. YOURE NOT TAKING HER ANYWHERE AND IM BASICALLY LOCKING YOU HERE SO UNTIL THE WEDDING IS OVER” So a guy named Carter (one of the club members) is there to make sure bro doesnt make any escape attempts. This is where it started showing what the club did, and it showed how Vox took out his anger on rival gangs and skinned them and crap blah blah blah. So the day of her wedding arrives and part of the ceremony is to basically get drowned by the shepherd and people can watch and crap. Now you have to get drowned for 3 minutes so thats a pretty long time. Anyway go back to the club and Vox goes up for some mac n cheese and this guy named Shadow was like “nah bro fight for your girl. Ill support you even if it means disobeying Ares” and so everyone was all like “cool cool” (and by everyone i mean Shadow and Vox) and so when he went to go drive to wedding with Shadow apparently carter was in on it and so all three of them went to save her. ALSO REALLY QUICK INTERJECTION BEFORE I FINISH THIS, HER FATHER LOCKED HER IN HER ROOM IN HER OLD HOUSE AND SOMEHOW A FIRE STARTED AND THATS HOW SHE LOST HER VOICE. But anyway, so continuing on, news flash, SHES DROWNED AND ALMOST DEAD (OH GOLLY GEE, I CANT TAKE NO MORE IM GETTING WEA- i mean OH NO!!) Anyway so Vox ends up killing the Shepherd WHICH LIKE I SAID BEFORE, WHY THE FLIP DIDNT HE DO THAT BEFORE?????? LIKE?? IT WOULDVE SAVED SO MUCH TIME AND ROSE WOULDNT HAVE ALMOST FLIPPING DIED. But whatevs. So anyway he takes her back to the club and shoots her father in the knees and takes him too, and gets some medic and crap and while the medic is tending to Rose, Vox goes and talks to Ares. Ares is like “YOU BETRAYED ME” which in my honest opinion, if bro really cared about Vox as much as Vox cared about him, then he wouldve let him save Rose but thats just me. Anyway so Vox is all like “WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE IT UP TO YOU” and Ares said “KILL HER FATHER IN FRONT OF HER” PERSONALLY, THIS IS JUST ME BUT IF MY FATHER, DROWNED ME, SIGNED A CONTRACT TO LET ME GET RAPED, INGORED ME, WAS THE CAUSE OF MY MUTENESS AND LET ME BE ABUSED, I WOULDNT FEEL SOOOOOOOO TERRIBLE SEEING HIM DIE And ykw Rose wasnt either. And she watched as he died and then moved on with life. So she ends up moving to Seattle with Vox and living happily ever after and opening a flower garden and getting married.
So like i Said, it does have a pretty decent plotline it was just very very poorly executed. Pretty disappointed with this one.
Overall plot was promising but execution was lacking. Maybe got overly excited from the teasers I saw on booktok and it was underwhelming. Felt like it was extremely repetitive and the internal dialogue the characters had was the same for like 90% of the book. Also not a huge insta love fan would have preferred more build up. All in all quick read, enticing storyline but not worth it with everything else out there
Vox and Rose, wow just wow. Fantastic start to a new MC story, love both Vox and Rose. The story was written to perfection. If anything I wish that the ending could of been more about them, finding there perfect life and maybe a few love scenes would of made it perfect.
So this book is neither good nor bad. Banal, mawkish, naive, sometimes stupid and disgusting. I love books about bikers very much, but there was something missing in this one. Everything was predictable and boring in places. And I have never met such a disgusting club president. Yes, there were different bastards, but in this book it was disgusting. Although you may like it, I personally don't. And I'm not going to read a second book about him. Rose turned out to be a really lovely girl. I really liked it. A strong spirit that cannot be broken. This may be the only advantage of the book. The religious cult, as for me, is described very sparsely and there was little of it. It's kind of shallow. Very little is invested in it. The author needed to spell it out better in a little more detail and not in a muddled way. But despite all the disadvantages, I will still leave 4 stars.
Listen, I am a basic ho. He's a biker? Great. Age gap? Even better. She's mute and stuck in a cult? Now you're talking my language.
Is this going to shatter your view of literature as a whole? Probably not. But sometimes you just want a hot, tatted-up, gang enforcer (apologies, MC club VP) who spoons out eyeballs before breakfast to look at you lovingly, stalk you mildly, and be literally ready to blow his life to smithereens for you.
I typically don't gravitate toward the Harley riders' aspect of the biker community (please don't judge me), but this book turned out to be a pleasant surprise. While it was enjoyable for a single read, I'm particularly intrigued by what the second book in the series promises, especially regarding its characters.
The sudden departure of the cult from the girl's life felt a bit rushed and somewhat predictable to me, but overall, it was a great book that I really enjoyed. 👍🏼
The writing was so bad, I thought it was translated. Characters were so flat. Some moments were funny though; like the kiss scene, wedding, and the MLs weird country accent. (pls why tf did he talk like that😭) I don't think it's a comedy though
I found this through insta and wanted to see if it was cringe. Andd yes it was giving I'm the alpha I'm the leader 💔
I thought this was so freaking cute! Made me squeal and tear up. She’s born into a cult and doesn’t know any better and doesn’t question anything until she goes mute. She meets a handsome, ONLY FOR HER loving, caring, sweet, learns ASL for her motorcycle gang VP 🩶🩶🩶🩶
Actually such a good book! It was a dark romance with an interesting trope and no smut which I think was absolutely great!! I often think people think dark romance is just smut on smut but this was written so well without it!
