Villa transforms the words of the Odyssey into silent portraits, created by 361 inmates who reinterpret selected pages as intimate confessions—fragments of desire, regret, hope, or sorrow. Unseen images of life emerge from sheets punctuated by silences, marks, and empty spaces. Each word becomes an act of mercy.
The resulting volume weaves these pages into a choral meta-text that resonates with humanity and vulnerability. It is a gesture of participatory art that restores dignity and voice, honoring moments of silence while offering an authentic—and often heartrending—portrait of lives in suspension.
Each self-portrait is anonymous, yet profoundly personal: words surface as reflections of the soul, revealing an emotional truth that transcends aesthetics.
An excellent paperback edition by Quodlibet.
