I’m so glad I’m a rereader. This book is just as loveable and charming as it was the first time I read it.

I said in one of my updates that this book seemed to be headed for a five star book. I’m very happy to say it made it.
Wyatt Locke is our hero. He’s a hockey player coming to the end of his career and he’s not sure how many years he has left before his before his body gives out. He’s got a few other things on his mind. The Stanley Cup playoffs are over and in the finals his team lost to his brothers team. The two of them are very close but there are limits. Plus with the very recent passing of their mother, Wyatt and brother Liam have just learned they have an older step brother their mother abandoned before she met their father. Family is everything to Wyatt so this is difficult to understand.
Sydney Malloy is a very famous and popular pop star who is going through a rough patch. At first I pictured her as kind of a Taylor Swift kind of character. But I’m NOT a Swiftie and indeed very tired of all the publicity and only know a few of her songs so I dumped those comparisons. She’s also a people pleaser to her own detriment at times.
Wyatt and Sydney meet at a celebrity golf tournament when he rescues her from a handsy kind of guy and the two of them go on to have a great time. When they get into the tequila which Sydney isn’t good with, well, they wake up the next morning married. Now they just have to figure out what to do. I’ve read this trope a number of times but this book is a whole other level. Rather than focus on the story, I’m going to focus on what makes this book so special.
Wyatt. Seriously he is such an amazing character. He’s smitten with Sydney right from the beginning. He was smitten even before he met her, being a fan. He becomes instantly protective of her, sensing a kind of vulnerability about her. He sees that very few people really care about her, instead use her and because she’s a sensitive person, she lets them. But in no time Wyatt will do anything for her. One can’t help loving that in a hero.
Sydney. As great as a hero as Wyatt is, she is a great heroine. She can see what a great person Wyatt is and she’s not used to any caring so much about her needs. She grew up poor with a single mother who only wanted to use her when she became famous and she’s been used ever since. But she has an inner strength about her and Wyatt gives her the confidence and to let her exercise that inner strength.
Secondary Characters. They are brilliantly written. First off is Liam, Wyatt brother to Wyatt. He doesn’t have a lot of page time but with what he does have, we NEED to read his book which is the next book. Their dad comes across as a dad who dearly loves his sons and wants them happy. Nick the half brother. Although he only has one scene, it’s impactful and leaves us wanting more. It’s mentioned he’s the protege of the hero from a previous book. Now that book needs I reread so I can see if Nick is in that book.
This is such a great feel good book. When reading it I guarantee you will be glad you read romance, thus discovered this treat. For sure it’s a reread book and already I’m happy knowing I’m not done with it.
