I have read plenty of bodyguard and undercover agent books, but this is one of the best I have read. Usually, when you read them, it is the undercover agent infiltrating an organization and trying to bring them down. In this book, it was him getting hired as the bodyguard of a billionaire’s daughter and trying to get information on her father’s alleged illegal business activities. There are not a whole bunch of gun fights, beating people up, or any of the “gang activities” you see in the other books.
Conrad is an FBI agent who is selected to take on a high-priority assignment. He has some very important things going on in his life, and taking an assignment at this time is not something that he is comfortable doing, but when he is given a life-changing opportunity, he knows he has to take it. After taking the job and Rachel ends up in danger, Conrad realizes there is so much more to Rachel and that he is more invested than just as her bodyguard, but he has to decide which is more important, his mission or being with her.
Rachel is his principal for this assignment. She has been through multiple bodyguards in just the last week. She made a wager with her friend Jess as to how fast each would leave. She thinks she has finally won against her father when Conrad arrives. She soon realizes that not only is he not going to be an easy one to get to leave, but that he won’t be an easy one for her to avoid being attracted to either.
I enjoyed this book because of the realistic way their relationship grows. They don’t just hop into bed together asap. They build up their chemistry, and then it comes to a head in a natural way. Amelia writes this story with a real-life feel as they go through their confrontations and how each event they have going on in their lives is handled. There are so many books that you read that there is no emotion or personality put into the story or the characters in the story, but with this book, there is plenty of both.
If you enjoy a good book about forced proximity, second chances, and enemies to lovers, then this book should be next on your TBR list! There are s*x scenes, but nothing too graphic.
