Zero action scenes in this book, all drama. It was outstanding and I loved every page. I’m impressed by and in admiration of Marvel for letting Hickman tell this story in this manner. We’ve had multiple issues without Spider-Man, and those issues have mostly consisted of people sitting around and talking. And they’ve been great.
This issue of Ultimate Spider-Man was a set up issue where nothing much happened other than setting up the next issue. Peter Parker appears briefly as a dopey dad; that’s how the star of the book is treated. instead, we have interminable panels of Ben Parker and Jonah Jameson acting like an old married couple.
This was a very boring issue. This series started out so great with such potential. However, it’s losing me as nothing seems to happen. I’m all for a slow burn, but eventually something has to happen to progress the story. Nothing of any real note happens here. The entire comic is mostly using the dreaded “9 panel” page. If you read a lot of modern comics it’s format you see when a page is just all quippy dialog . . . . and this issue is 96% 9 panel pages. So it was a chore to get through.
Sure! Here's your revised Goodreads-style blurb in your usual tone and structure:

Just read Ultimate Spider-Man #10 by Hickman and Messina — another sharp detour from the main web-slinging action. This one puts J. Jonah Jameson and Ben Parker front and center as they dig into a shady sale tied to Stane/Stark Industries. Feels more like a newsroom thriller than a superhero comic, and honestly? It mostly works. Their back-and-forth, the slow-burn investigation, and Harry’s eventual appearance all bring real stakes.
That said, this is ten issues in, and we’re still barely getting Peter. The pacing is slow, and while the writing’s smart and the world-building is strong, I’m definitely missing some momentum. Messina’s art is a solid fill-in—clean, expressive, and fits the tone—but I’m hoping we shift gears soon.
Cool concept, great dialogue, but I’m starting to feel a bit of a drag.
This series is more than could been expected. The main character is not always in the spotlight, he barely appears in this number, but this makes the product stronger. Every character is important, every piece of the puzzle is there for a reason, and everything is perfect.
I haven’t been engage with a comic series in a long, long time, and actually I am not sure if I have been this tense ever.
We may think is a re-tell, but is so different from the original universe that you never know who is safe and who isn’t. Incredible, or would in be better to say… better amazing.
Plenty of people have said it, but it really is a testament to the strength of Hickman’s character writing that we can get an action-less Spider-Man issue and have it still be peak comics! I give this issue, and this arc, a lot of credit for managing the pacing of the “happening in real time” structure a lot better. Nothing has felt like filler, but things don’t feel like they’re going too fast either. I’m still really excited to see how all these Ultimate titles are going to converge when the Maker does eventually come back.
No spider-man in this book but lots of side story and drama. I’m enjoying the unconventional route this volume of USM is taking from the usual mainline Spider-man. It still feels fresh, daring and different almost a year later and I love it! Artistically it remains beautiful and eye catching. The writing is Hickman at his best, I love it.
I would read an entire run where Ben and Jonah investigate stories, that was SO thrilling and nobody even had to throw a punch. God I love this book and the Ultimate universe so much
Its crazy how entertaining this run is when a third of it has consisted of characters sitting around and talking. Such entertaining drama and great dialogue in these issues, and makes the action hit all the better with pacing as excellent as this.
I’m running out of ways of praising this book every month, but I’ll try anyways: THIS IS AMAZING, ESPECIALLY THE FOCUS ON THE SECONDARY CHARACTERS, THE BUILD UP IS INTENSE AND SO FUN AND IT'S EVERYTHING I COULD WANT OUT OF A SPIDER-MAN BOOK!
This issue was yet again, fantastic. Hickman and Messina do a great job making dialogue enthralling, and the character building and relationships (especially between Ben and Jonah), continue to be great. It was satisfying to see them discover the secret everyone is in on!
Le meilleur tome de cette série à ce stade n’est pas tant une histoire de super-héros qu’une histoire de journalisme d’investigation. Certes un peu simpliste, mais ça fonctionne parfaitement. A une époque de fake news, un indispensable
if there’s a perfect issue in this run, it’s this one. Ben and JJJ hunt down the story Oscorp is covering up. Gwen doesn’t like it, but Harry throws them a bone and gives them all the dirt they need on Kingpin.

This literally had no Spider-Man action at all but it was amazing. A very heavy focused issue on Jameson and Ben figuring out the shady shit going around and I loved it! Seeing the two as a duo is fucking amazing.
I like how this series isn't afraid to have an issue without a fight. This was a super interesting issue and I'm glad they didn't feel the need to force a fight scene into it.
