The Spy Who Ghosted Me

Rate this book
Are you ready to get ghosted?

Three years ago, I fell truly, madly, deeply in love. It was kind of hard not to when Cash Denton, the sexiest man alive, literally ran into me on the streets of Bordeaux, France, and kissed me. Best. Meet. Cute. Ever. That led to the best two months of my life. Or . . . so I thought, until Cash disappeared into thin air. At first, I assumed he was in a coma or had amnesia after a tragic accident, since there’s no way he would have left me. But that was just wishful thinking because, you guessed it, he ghosted me with a capital G.

So, you can imagine my surprise when he suddenly shows back up in my life at my parents’ resort—while I’m there for my sister’s wedding, no less. It’s the last thing I need, seeing as one, I hate drama, and two, I’m pretty sure my sister’s fiancé isn’t who he says he is. There’s a lot of that going around, apparently. Because get Cash, or whatever his real name is, claims to be a spy. You heard me right—a spy. If that wasn’t crazy enough, he wants me to pretend to be his girlfriend so he can keep tabs on the supposed diamond smuggler my sister is marrying. I’m not sure who or what to believe. All I know is, this wedding is way more than I bargained for and there is nothing pretend about my feelings for Cash or whoever he is. But can a regular girl and her ghost live happily ever after? Or will the spy turn out to be just another ghost story?

USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Peel presents a swoony spy romcom full of action, adventure, and romance.

**WARNING** Do NOT start this book if you have plans to get things done. I'm here to tell you that it just isn't going to happen. Who needs food in their bellies and/or clean clothes when you have The Spy Who Ghosted Me calling your name?!

Where do I even begin to tell you how much I loved this book?! First. This book is perfection! Second. This book is absolute perfection! Third. Did I mention this book is absolute perfection?! Well, in my opinion, it is! Gah! You guys! This is the kind of book I have been craving! They have been few and far between for me this year so I found myself treasuring every single moment of this ooey gooey swoony deliciousness!

Sabrina and Cash are fantastic! They're both loyal, kind, loving, fiercely protective, and will do anything in their power to make sure the people they care about most are safe and happy. I loved watching these two get to know each other better. I don't think Cash knew what to do or say to Sabrina at times. Growing up the way he had made it hard to believe some of the things she did and said.

Sabrina saw Cash differently than he saw himself. She saw his worth when nobody else did. She saw the amazing man he didn't even know existed. She helped him to see himself as she sees him. It was beautiful to watch. I have to say that these two are absolutely perfect for each other in life and love. Watching them finally getting their HEA had me letting out all the little dreamy sighs.

Y'all know how much I love me some side characters and this book was loaded with them! I found myself laughing out loud during some antics and I fell in love with them just as much as I did Sabrina and Cash. Have a mentioned this book is absolute perfection yet?

Ms. Peel continues to surprise me with each and every book she releases. I love how she's not afraid to step out of her comfort zone to bring us new and exciting stories. I, for one, would love to see more Sabrina and Cash! I think a spy series could be a lot of fun!

As for my casting... y'all. These two are perfection! What do you think?

Not romantic or sexy to me,
He’s some kind of spy 🕵️ I thought the mistery would be more interesting
He really ghosted her three years ago, came back cocky ( I hate that kind) and uses her again! There’s no kind of grovel
He uses her time after time and NEVER has the intention to stay and have something with her, awful and a coward
I’m too proud for this type of books, I’d have betray him at the end just for revenge
Two stars because the writing was fluid and easy for my poor English but no thank you

No grovel
No sex
No love IMO,

Move over James Bond, we've got another spy who is here to save the day!!! And man oh man, does he deliver! Except he has one hiccup...a major one. And it has to do with his heart and ghosting a certain someone. Now he has a mission to show up at her sister's wedding and solve a case, take down the bad guy, keep his cover, and most importantly, keep his heart locked away and not get tangled up in a relationship with Sabrina...again! Yeah right!!! As if she'd even let him after ghosting her!

Oh! My! Heavens!!! Y'all, this book was soooooo good! And Sabrina! She's spunky and she sure knows how to keep Cash on his toes! I loved her character so much! Cash, be ware, you're going down! *smirks* And umm, Sabrina, you are too! Sorry honey, it's just inevitable when it's Cash!

I love, love, loved her family so much!!! Her parents and their all seeing eyes. Her Nana!!! Hahaha!!! Oh my word, she cracked me up to the extreme!!!! Cash, you better watch yourself around Nana! *smirking again* Her cousin is a hoot, when we see her. IYKYK. Her sister...ummm Bridezilla to the EXTREME!!!! Grandpa, her aunt and others are just all a perfect family combination to watch the drama!

The setting had me wanting to go on a vacation. The spy aspects had me feeling like I was right there helping Cash and Sabrina in this covert operation, sneaking around and trying not to get caught. The swoony romance had me sighing in happiness because these two are just adorable. I loved their realistic views on their situation and was there for it all!!! *Happy Sigh*

I also listened to the audiobook and loved the two narrators! They are fabulous! I hope that we get to hear more of their amazing voices for more of Jennifer Peel's books! Be ready to feel like you're right there with these characters if you listen to the audiobook. I didn't want it to end!

If you haven't read a book by this author, this would be a great place to start. I was hooked!!!

Content: Some mild swear words. Some kissing. The main characters sleep in the same location but in separate sleeping accommodations.

I received a copy from the author. I have also purchased my own kindle copy and will be getting a pretty paperback for my shelves!!! All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading & Ghosting!!!

“I had a feeling that my mostly drama-free life was about to get dramatized in a major way.”

I quickly fell in love with Cash and Sabrina’s story as it started out with a second meet-cute and the descriptions of the first one had me over the moon with swoon. Cash planted himself back in her life and it’s about to get interesting.

Sabrina is such a fun and capable woman and after being ghosted, no one can blame her for being annoyed, but…who can resist Cash? He’s like all the beloved spy movie heroes wrapped into one adorably sweet and resourceful man. I loved everything about this book, from the elements of suspense to the hilarious interactions to the delicious kisses.

Add this one to your list and you won’t be sorry!

Content: mild language; swoony kisses; mild peril

*I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own and were voluntarily given*

Romcom with a little bit of action. Very cheesy but in a hallmark comfy way.

Sabrina thought she had met the love of her life in France. He was the perfect man, they had the best meet cute, everything was going great. Until he disappeared without a trace. Three years go by, and Sabrina still thinks about the man who ghosted her. Never having closure for what happened to Cash and where he went. Until one day, she runs into him at the airport, heading onto the same flight to her home town. Not only is he heading to her home town, but he is booked to stay at her parent’s lodge. And Sabrina thought her bridezilla younger sister was going to be the bane of her stay. But things aren’t adding up with Cash, and Sabrina doesn’t trust her sister’s fiancé either. It’s time for her to Nancy Drew the situation and find some answers - only to stumble across the fact that Cash is a spy sent to investigate her sister’s fiancé. Well this vacation just got a whole lot more complicated.

2.5 stars.

Plot- Unique plot involving a second chance romance between a male spy and the sister of the bride. They were trying to find evidence to convict the groom of his crimes. Meh.

Characters- I liked the FMC a lot but didn’t relate to her when she opened herself up again to a man whom she KNEW was undependable and obviously unkind.
The MMC was average.

Romance- Low chemistry.

The spy really hurt the FMC (and rightly so) when he ditched her without a goodbye 3 years ago after their whirlwind romance that lasted for 2 blissful months in France. He just left. For all she knew, he had been killed in a car crash or something. It was atrocious of him. I appreciated that the FMC didn’t let him off easy for that offense (initially), and I was glad that the MMC understood the hurt he caused. Still, I would have liked some serious groveling, which we didn’t get. 😈

I didn’t like that he was unwilling to commit to her even near the end, after telling her he loved her etc. She was open and vulnerable to him and put herself out there even knowing he likely wouldn’t choose her over his job. For me, that kind of love with no expectation of reciprocation from the guy is the worst sort of twisted romance. Not my favorite dynamic.

I understood on an intellectual level that he felt like he couldn’t commit due to his life not being his own, but on an emotional level, I was seriously disappointed in him for lacking courage, commitment, and true devotion to the FMC.

Writing - The writing wasn’t great.

There were too many repeated phrases, like “chemistry cocktail” and her musings about “maybe he was bit by a radioactive spider or maybe he was a vampire.” I mean the first time the FMC shares those sentiments, sure, haha, kinda cheesy but okay, whatevs. But the second time? Third time? Fourth time?

Also, another instance of poor writing:
There is a literal gunfight happening at the wedding rehearsal, where the bride and groom and family are exchanging fire with criminals who have crashed the event. And the elderly grandpa yells, and I quote, “Nice shootin’!!” I’m sorry, WHAT? People are dying around you, it is utter mayhem, with blood bullets and screaming, and Pops yells Nice shootin’???? Like we’re at some carnival game or something??? Just let me bang my head on this wall right here.

Sorry, but I have to mention one more thing.
There is the dreaded pervy granny in this book.
I HATE THIS TROPE. WHY DO AUTHORS DO THIS?

If an old grandpa behaved that way to the FMC, that would be revolting, and yet authors have a perverted, handsy granny making moves on the MMC (grabbing his butt, palming his muscles, flirting outrageously) and we are expected to laugh it off??? The MMC is expected to chuckle at the fact that he’s being sexually harassed?
What the heck?!
A GRANNY ACTING LIKE THIS IS SO WEIRD!!!!!
Think about it for one second in the real world! Plus the granny is married and her husband is still around. So so disturbing. Ew.

Content-

Language- some low level swears
Spice- some kisses
Violence- not really
Substance abuse- none
Cover- I love it!
POV- dual POV
Cliffhanger- no.
Format- audio via Audible
Narration- I did not like the male performer’s voice for the FMC, and I did not like the female’s voice for the MMC. I would say that it detracted from the experience for me.

Oh my gosh! Is this ever a book you can get lost in! It made me so happy to read and when I was finished I knew without a doubt that I needed more Jennifer Peel books in my life!

Sabrina and Cash have a past, but he ghosted her 3 years ago. Little did she know Cash is actually a spy and now he is back to protect her, but Sabrina isn’t making it easy on him at all. As well she shouldn’t. She is so annoyed with him but at the same time is having a hard time resisting him.

This story was just so much fun and super addicting! I did not want to put it down for even a minute! I loved Sabrina! She is smart, resourceful, and can definitely hold her own where Cash is concerned. She had the best spunk and was so intuitive. And Cash he was swoony as heck! I loved his flirty side but he also broke my heart a little. His backstory was so sad. Sabrina makes him feel real and gives him some hope that he is more than just an asset. I fell in love with them both right away, but this book also had a stellar group of side characters that added to the amazingness. Lexi was so fun as the Bridezilla and Sabrina’s dad was such a sweet Teddy Bear. Don’t even get me started on Nana! She had me cracking up so much! This book had action, intrigue, and the best kisses! It was so well done. The romance and action scenes were perfectly blended. At any given time I could be laughing at the constant taking and deleting of Sabrina's photos, on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next on this adventure or my heart could be melting like it did when Cash had his talk with Sabrina’s dad. This is pretty much the swooniest ghosting ever and I would give it more than 5 stars if I could! Please don’t miss it! It is just fantastic!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I know I was expecting a second chance romance but I honestly wish there was more angst and more groveling. While it was cute that Sabrina and Cash couldn't resist each other, I just needed more. But, still cute and I thought it was fun

“Note to self: Never fall in love with a spy again.”

Also of note: you will not want to put this book down once you start- it’s just that good!

This book was absolutely addictive, and all I can say is I need more. The story grabbed my attention from the beginning with such an interesting plot, a hero and heroine you immediately love and root for, moments I literally laughed out loud, a setting that had me itching to be in the mountains with the fall leaves, so much added suspense and a bit of a mystery, and a passionate but clean romance that left my toes curling long after I finished.

Sabrina and Cash had a sweet love and a story that needed to be told. This author has such a talent for bringing you into a book and making you feel a part of it, as well as developing wonderful side characters you can’t help but love. Amidst the crazy of a diamond smuggler and a quirky wedding party complete with bridezilla, there was so much good in this story, and many moments throughout truly touched me. I adored Cash and Sabrina, and oh my word- I loved the combination of romance and mystery/suspense! I was definitely surprised at the explosive climax and ending to the story!

I truly hope we get to revisit this genre (and maybe even these characters?!) again, because this is for sure a book I will be reading over and over!

2.5 to be fair! I am just not a contemporary reader and I need to remember that going into these.

Spoilers.

This book is perfect for you if you like cutesy rom coms. It has meet cutes, banter, and a cute plot of him being a spy and just wanting to protect her. The happily ever after comes full circle and we see them grow together as people. All good things.

I was just bored and wanted it to hurry along. I feel like the inner monologues were too repetitive and we kept just getting the same arguments with a few words changed. I wanted to just yell "get over it" by half way when she hadn't forgiven him. It's why I struggle with contemporary romance so much. You are telling me the problem is that you hooked up with this guy for two months in Europe and he ghosted you. That's it? He didn't murder your family to take a throne? He didn't capture you and hold you against your will? He wasn't an extreme bully to the point where you'd cry yourself to sleep? No? Okay then I don't see why you are mad at the 50 percent mark. So this is clearly a book taste issue for me, not that the book was bad.

Had to read it after seeing the Kindle Unlimited description. 😂
Such a cute and fun rom-com type book. Sabrina and Cash were fun characters and the situation was wild and slightly outlandish, but fun all the same. Also it took place in Tennessee, so that added to the fun for me. <3

Content:
I would consider this book clean as far as content. There are kissing scenes and they definitely notice each other a lot. Didn't bother me. :)

There aren’t enough words to say how much I loved this book! I was hooked from the beginning and loved every bit of it until the end. And the bonus chapter!!! Wow! Just, wow!!

After spending an amazing 2 months together in France, Cash suddenly ghosted Sabrina leaving her heartbroken. Not only did he leave without a trace, she was unable to find him or anything else about him anywhere. Even her pictures of him on her phone had disappeared!

Now, 3 years later on her way to her hometown for her sister’s wedding, she sees Cash in the airport and feels like she’s seen a ghost. Little does she know, they are headed to the same destination and Cash is about to become a part of her life once again!

Cash and Sabrina are SO fun! Their history together just adds to the chemistry between these two and has you rooting for them the thought the story.

Sabrina was so spunky, kind, snd smart! I liked how she loved to hate Cash. 😏 She really couldn’t help how quickly her old feelings for him came back, but she sure did try to fight them! She was so kind to her sister, even though she was a pill! And I loved that she was able to piece some things together herself to help Cash with his mission.

Cash was a dream! Despite ghosting Sabrina before (with a valid reason for doing so) he really was so sweet! I loved how protective he was of Sabrina, and how sweet and kind he was. He was always putting her first and helping her see how important she was to him even though he knew they couldn’t have a future together.

Such a fun, fun read! You’re going to love it!

There has yet to be a Jennifer Peel book that I do not finish in 24 hours

Imagine falling in love with a guy, in France, after one incredible meet cute and then he just vanishes only to turn up at the airport you are at where you are both heading to the place where your selfish baby sister is getting married. Oh - all to basically help this guy (spy) take down your sisters fiance because news flash, he’s a bad man (and not in the fun way 😉)

This was such a fun light hearted read where the writing sucks you in immediately and you cannot stop until you get to the very last page

So I was picked to receive an ARC for this book by the author!!! I was so excited!!! And let me just say..J Peel did it again!!! I love ALL of her books! This one had me swooning from the beginning! Cash and Sabrina are so incredibly cute! They have the most perfect "meet cute" and end up spending a couple months together being inseparable and falling for each other. And then you guessed it, Cash ghosts her! Little does she know, it's bc he's a spy! But something comes up later on and they are brought back together due to some..unfortunate events. Cash's next mission. Sabrina and Cash end up having to work together to save her sister, Lexi. During their time together, Cash gets a feel for what a true family is like. (The garage scene with Cash, Mercer & Pops..😫🥰) It makes your heart melt! Cash doesn't know what true love is until Sabrina & her family welcome him in with arms wide open. This book will have you a little frustrated, but then giggling, and then nervous with a racing heart and then grinning from ear to ear! All the feels! I absolutely loved it!!! I honestly would've read this in just a couple hours but..life as a full time working mom of three..duty calls! Lol If you need a light, fluffy, easy to read romance that makes your heart happy, this is for you!!! Which really..everyone will love this one!

This Spy can Ghost me any day

Sigh. This book is so great. I loved it. It's a perfect romance with some spy adventures. I loved the supporting characters, I loved the main characters, and I loved the honest conversations they had with each other and themselves. It's a great fall read. I read it in a day. Jennifer Peel is one of my top authors and you should totally give her a shot.

A fun read!

This is a lighthearted, entertaining romance. The spy part of the story is serious but not overly so. I enjoyed it! And in answer to the bonus part of the story: Yes, more please!

*Romance level: passionate kisses, some innuendo, but no graphic descriptions; a handful of common swears

*Gripe: I really don't get people's entertainment with the concept of a gropey, perverted grandma character - if it was a grandPA, nobody would think it was funny, so what changes when it's a woman? Nothing

Not what I expected at all but wow! Lots of spy gadgets but not the violence or the drama. Clean. There's a history between these two and not a good one, even if their past chemistry was off the charts. Family wedding and the guy who ghosted her shows up, and who is he after? Will everything be ruined? Great read, I really enjoyed it. I do wish we had more of either of their past history, but the current events were definitely enough.

Romance, intrigue, and second chances collide in this latest romance from Jennifer Peel, delivering a thrilling ride that is as heartfelt as it is funny. This story is a unique blend of swoon-worthy romance and suspense that kept me hooked from start to finish.

Sabrina and Cash had a whirlwind romance three years ago in Paris aka the city of love, then *poof* like a ghost he disappeared! As in he never existed! When Cash unexpectedly reappears in her life, claiming to be a spy and entangled in a dangerous international plot, Sabrina's world is thrown into Chaos. That's chaos with a capital C.

Oh. My. Word. What a fun story!! Cash had a daunting assignment--work his back into Sabrina's life without telling her he's a spy--that was never going to happen. I think he needed Sabrina to succeed in his mission to find the diamonds and arrest the diamond smuggler. There's so much to love about this book:

🕵️‍♂️ Dual POV (I love it)
🕵️‍♂️ Second chance romance (one of my favorite tropes)
🕵️‍♂️ Swoony kisses
🕵️‍♂️ Wonderful side characters
🕵️‍♂️ Found family (always a favorite)
🕵️‍♂️ Great chemistry between the main characters
🕵️‍♂️ That prologue!!

I love suspense and mystery so of course I loved the tension and intrigue surrounding the diamonds and the deadline to find them. On the flip side, there are several laugh-out-loud scenes. The side characters are great, especially Nana--she's hilarious. Cash's background is sad but I love how Sabrina's family accepts him as one of their own.

If you're a fan of romantic comedies with a dash of spy drama and a hearty dose of second-chance romance, this is a must-read. It’s a delightful escapade that will have you laughing, swooning, and rooting for love against all odds.

I listened to the audiobook and loved the dual narration. Both of the narrators are fantastic. Stephanie Rose is one of my favorites and Neill Thorne has such a sexy voice!

Content: parental neglect, a child in the foster system is mentioned, some Bible swears.

Audiobook Review⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to @jpeel_author for the #gifted audiobook.

The Spy Who Ghosted Me by Jennifer Peel is a swoony spy romcom that perfectly blends action, adventure, and romance. I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Stephanie Rose and Neill Thorne, and their fantastic dual narration added so much depth to the story.

This second-chance romance had everything I could ask for: a charming spy male main character, a brave and intelligent heroine, and plenty of suspenseful scenes to keep me on the edge of my seat. The dreamy meet-cute and fake dating trope made for some swoon-worthy moments, and the kisses? Absolutely perfect.

The bridezilla sister added a layer of humor and entertainment, keeping the story light-hearted even amidst the danger and intrigue. I also loved the themes of found family and the hero’s protective nature, which complemented the heroine’s courage beautifully.

A must-read (or listen!) for anyone who enjoys romance with a thrilling twist!

Quote: "Cash," I whispered.
"If you weren't a spy, what would you choose to do?" "Love you."

So Much Adventure

Wow! Ghosted by your lover, surprised by his reappearance, scared of a sister's fiance, and all sorts of intrigue; and people think Sabrina leads a boring life? What an absolutely fun, impossible-to-put-down story! Cash is a dreamboat. Sabrina's family is loving and a hoot, and the whole story is just amazing. I loved every single chapter, every dialog, every kiss. I especially loved the ending.

This book had me thinking I would be ok with being around criminals if it meant a spy like Cash came into my life. I do love a good crime story so I do wish there was a little bit more on the technical investigation side of things and there was a lot of build up but the climax felt slightly rushed. Still I would absolutely recommend this go on the TBR if you haven’t already read it!

It was fine but I felt like MMC was a bit selfish and the FMC had little self respect. I KNOW that’s what they were supposed to give at the beginning but idk it didn’t change for me at all until the very last part.
