This collection, designed to be the primary anthology or textbook for courses in Asian American history, covers the subject's entire chronological span. The volume presents a carefully selected group of readings that requires students to evaluate primary sources, test the interpretations of distinguished historians, and draw their own conclusions.
I appreciated the approach of having students learn about history as it really is: a collection of recorded experiences and its interpretations. However, I seemed to read and not retain anything, and at the end of it I do not have any sort of sequence in my head of the events. Maybe that's just my fault but a format like this makes it difficult to get a sense of what really happened or perceive the connections and causes.
