I've been waiting to get my paws into this novel for MONTHS I tell you, months.
The wait was worth it.
I think everyone knows I'm the demon bear daddy - right? I write the dark stuff.
Hold on to your f@cking hats kids, my crown has been snatched.

I had to read this in the light of day. But let me tell you why...

Even though this is a piece of fiction - I happen to know MD rather well so I know he went out and interviewed people directly involved with paranormal, parapsychology, and ghost hunting experience and backgrounds. He also interviewed folks from the Catholic church and an ex-exorcist - yes you read that right. Not sure how he managed to get those interviews because the church is notoriously hush hush on this topic. What did he find out?

The events listed in Golden Hills Haunting aren't as unusual or rare as you might expect. Let that sink in to your already goosepimpled flesh. Are you going to sleep tonight? I didn't, for the last week - THANK YOU MARVIN.

In other words - THIS STORY IS BASED ON REAL EVENTS. Made up for the novel? Sure. But the elements of it? Garnered and gleaned from real-life stories. (Jesus, please take the wheel, and may the spirits calm me down).

Now, I'm a good pagan boy—I've been for years. I've had my fair share of run-ins with ghosts, entities, and even a demon once—no lie—and this book portrays them in every single terrifying, sweat-inducing, spine-tingling reality. I've also felt that all-calming, love-filling, and safety of a god being present - knowing that everything will be okay.

This is not for the faint of heart. Be warned, forge ahead carefully - but my gods, go read this.

Now - one criticism - sometimes the dialogue gets a bit clunky - even MD will admit to this - but who cares - the chills this story delivers will wipe that from your memory.

Holy crap - now I gotta come up with something really terrifying to get my soul-snatching, blood dripping, hellbound demon summoning crown back.

I'm not a real fan of horror since I am a huge coward but I really enjoyed Golden Hills Haunting. While there was certainly scary stuff, the focus was on love. The love the narrator has for his husband and child and the new community they move into. A wonderful approach. The book reads like a friend telling you about a haunting they have experienced. I liked that a lot. The characters in the book are diverse people all trying to make a home in their new neighborhood while dealing with terrifying supernatural attacks. You really empathize with them because they're just ordinary folks dealing with extraordinary events. A fast and satisfying read.

Golden Hills Haunting

When Kyle and Alejandro move into the small community in Golden Hills to make a fresh start for their adopted daughter they believe their troubles are behind them. Unfortunately new and terrifying ordeals affect them and their close community.
M. D. Neu writes a story that becomes more riveting as it progresses from seemingly random and unexpected events to full blown hauntings and more.

Kyle and Alejandro Del Rosario had found a deal of a lifetime. They found a place in San Jose selling and building new homes that were going fast. The price was right and there were incentives, bonuses and a fifteen year warranty contract. Most of all this would benefit their adopted, Afro-American daughter, Chloe. They adopted Chloe at the age of five. She’d been terribly abused buy her mother and now at the age of twelve she was being bullied at school. She is also in therapy. But this move would be worth every penny to give them all peace of mind.

The Golden Hills Court was a beautiful spot. About eight homes and families had moved in the: Johnsons, Martins, Gills, Patils, Hernandez, Harris, Chens and Walkers. There was a small park and many children that Chloe could befriend. It all seemed to be going well.

When the first strange incident occurred, Kyle knows what he and Alejandro saw, but it was unbelievable. They even contacted the police and met with Officer Danielle “Dannie” Lancey. As the paranormal events increase and become very dark and lead to anger and danger the residents have little alternatives to move. As Kyle looks into the history of the property he finds that the wishes of the previous owner were not followed. With the help of Dannie, she brings in various people who deal in the paranormal and the local priest Fr. Flynn.

Everyones lives will be turned upside down with the terrifying events. Will Kyle, Alejandro and Chloe find the peace and happiness that they had thought they found?

M.D. Neu brings a dark and haunting novel with “Golden Hills Haunting”. It’s a story of two men who want the best for their daughter and hopes for a brighter future to build their family. Kyle and Alejandro will have to fight to strengthen the bond between them and what they have with Chloe. It’s also about acceptance of a religion that has denied Kyle and Alejandro’s relationship and those that many not agree with religions. For Kyle and Chloe it’s an acceptance of the abilities they discover they have. Besides their own bond, the trouble that has fallen on the neighbors also will be the test, if they can join together and fight for all of their existence.

The story also reflects the greed of builders and the cities master plan, and not respecting the wishes and the past.

There’s a host of characters and organizations that come to the aid of the residence of Golden Hills. Dr. Anson Thomas, Lead Researcher and Investigator of the Silicon Valley Paranormal Research Society; with Ethan and Zoe. Michelle the psychic who gives support to Kyle and his family. Dr. Reza Zadeh-Ezra of Research East Coast Paranormal Institute of Clearwater and many more.

I especially enjoyed how a recent novel I read also addressed the historical facts about Native Americans. With the Spanish explorers and missionaries arrival in California the peaceful Indigenous people became devastated. With the Spanish colonizing the various tribes such as the Muwekma, Tamien, and Ohlone tribes there came: destruction, death, disease, and enslavement. Religion, culture, government, greed for gold and war was a major reason the Indigenous population lessened. Both novels also addressed the subjects of: Psychokinesis, precognition, mental and physical powers. The difference is “Golden Hills Haunting” is paranormal and the other dealt more in sci-fi, universes and centuries.

I highly recommend “Golden Hills Haunting” for those who love a scary novel. I felt M.D. Neu also brought a more serious side to the story with points on: Religion, different cultures and races, demons and angels: St. Michael the Archangel, Laraje and Ibos and love of a family. Very entertaining!

Uh...

Lets just say that I liked the idea of this story, but the execution needed alot of help and a few rounds of editing.
