Match Made in Space #1

Princess for the Space Cowboy

Rate this book
A grumpy alien cowboy in need of a princess, a betrayed human woman looking for a way to get off her planet, and an intergalactic matchmaking service. Buckle up for some space cowboy spice!

Just when life can’t get any worse on Earth, I catch my fiancé with my bestie. When I happen upon a Princess Wanted ad on another planet, I apply in a blink. In a hot minute, I’m weak-kneed with Asher, an alien cowboy who claims he’s royalty and that he really needs a princess. Like yesterday.

I have nothing to lose, so I take the chance. Aside from the whole princess thing, my new job means finding mates for the plethora of smokin’ hot alien cowboys on a planet that worships women.

Princess for the Space Cowboy is a swoony sci-fi romance with a dash of comedy, adventure and plenty of action.

Reading this book taught me a difficult lesson: just because I randomly picked up and loved one book with an alien cowboy ([[Married to the Alien Cowboy- Dax]]) does not mean I can search alien cowboy and expect to get another good result. This was BAD and I have THOUGHTS.

About 15% through this book and entirely displeased with what had gone on so far, I made my way back to goodreads to look at the rating and reviews. Obviously, these will vary and I know to take them as opinion and not absolutes, but I was on the search for any insight that would inspire me to keep going. I was baffled that this book has as high a rating as it does but it is a smaller sample size. I didn't find the answers I was looking for but I resolved not to DNF until I pushed on a little further and also because I'm bad about DNFing books because I don't want to have that lingering thread of curiosity that says: but did it get better? How does it end?

The answers: it does not get better (but I also suppose it didn't get worse?) And it ends anticlimactically.

Here's the thing: I'm am on board trope-wise for a lot of what is happening in this book (fated mates, alien differences, arranged marriage, public scrutiny, etc.) but I'm not down for it being done badly. It's not like I'm even mad at the insta love of fated mates except that there is absolutely no kind of development after that. The plot is a crudely shaped cardboard cutout but what really drove me over the edge was the writing and the worldbuilding.

The writing is, unfortunately, just not that good. Everything is told instead of shown, the scenes are cut together starting clunkily and ending abruptly. The dialogue is bland and cringe and the spicy scenes (of which there are plenty don't worry) are the cringiest of all.

But the worldbuilding steals the show as the most disastrous of all. And the crazy thing is that even though I love worldbuilding dearly, there are ways in romance with a dash of sci-fi or fantasy or dystopian that you can get away with very little worldbuilding. The issue this book had was it told us two details about the worlds and repeated telling us those two details over and over and over and over again until I would spot the words on the page and add it to my mental tally.

The first worldbuilding detail that gets rammed down your throat is that earth is a bad place for women. Completely unsarcastically, this is a believable detail. We are told that women's rights were systematically taken away by the government as climate and other disasters got worse and that men don't value or respect women. Jane's lying and cheating ex-fiancé is used as a prime example (which is a bit of a logical infallacy but still). I would have no problem with this except it is completely surface level. There are no material consequences shown. The planet is dried out and there is no green except for the rich, but that is a class problem. Jane has a job. She's able to break up with her fiancé and move out to live on her own. And yet, it is a discussed and agreed upon sentiment from the women of earth that it is a bad place for them to live. That could be interesting, but unfortunately it never gets beyond that same repeated phrase and agreed-upon sentiment that doesn't do justice to what the material consequences of discrimination and disenfranchisement are.

But the larger offender of the two was worldbuilding detail #2: that women are worshipped/revered on the alien planet of Aphroditea where our MMC, Asher, is from. And okay, I get that you want to make the alien planet seem like a more appealing option than earth. And trust me, we heard you the first seven times you said women are treated poorly on earth and that it is so much better in your planet. But you can't just be like ah yes our society reveres women and then show literally no evidence to back that statement up. You don't treat women like second class citizens stripped of their rights like future earth does? Great, but that doesn't really count as revering. There is still a King and a Queen where the King seems to do most of the actual ruling and decision making and the queen is there for emotional support. Women are allowed to be in the guard but it is still predominantly men. Literally no other details are given in present day to support this revering statement. The only thing that comes close is that the tragic event that wiped out many of the planets women (explaining why they are turning to earth) was at a festival that celebrated women. Again, it is the same issue of telling not being the same as showing and the shallow statements without any proof or sense behind them.

And perhaps the most confounding thing of all... IN WHAT WAY PRAY TELL ARE THEY SPACE COWBOYS?? I do not understand. Asher's a prince yes which makes her a princess but he is not a cowboy. Asher has/does nothing that is associated with my understanding of a cowboy (no hat, no working with animals of any kind, no manual labor, no small town or ranch) and the cowboy connection is that loooooooooong ago the planet cross pollinated with American and French cowboys who settled there.

The worst part about this whole book is I'm just having these thoughts of--in the famous words of Taylor Swift--I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can). Like give me an endless amount of suggesting mode and the prose could be saved. Let the author back up and with the help of a consultation, create a culture for this alien planet that is not just in opposition to earth (aka Aphroditea= good, earth= bad) and I really think there could be something there. And then let the characters and plot emerge from the culture and its differences and actually give the main characters some scenes where they talk to each other instead of having sex 24/7 (and talking to each other about how obsessed they are with each other and how much they want to have sex doesn't count) and it is not unsalvageable. Come up with a different title that doesn't include cowboys so that the title isn't misleading or, reconfigure the characters and culture so that they are actually cowboys. The thoughts of what I could do to fix this were haunting me just a little. It was perhaps why it took me a month to read 150 pages.

Honestly, I will give this book that extra half start to round it up to two for the enjoyment that I got, not from reading the book but for writing this review.

This was abysmally bad. The pacing was like a car crash and it’s honestly impressive a book this short managed to be so repetitive.

What a disaster. There is nothing cowboy about this, nothing sci fi about this, nothing princess/prince about this...

This book was something else. All the tropes should have been good, but they just! Weren't! There!

Western? Nope. There's a throwaway line about a lasso around the MMC's heart. There's no ranching, no small town, no cowboy hates, no cattle, and the one time a "horse" (it's not a horse; it's an alien creature) is ridden, it's at a walk in a practice area. There's no stable, no tack, no barrels, no jumps, no boots, no prairie, no nothing.

Sci-fi? Nope. There's nothing sci-fi about this. So it takes place on another planet? Doesn't mean anything when you can get there in 2 hours so space travel isn't difficult, risky, time consuming, and it's not technologically explained. It's just a "fast transport". Woo. Yay. Yawn. The other planet? Just like Earth but better in basically every way. Literally everyone on Aphroditea is called by it's Earth equivalent. Horses, hares, and herons, we have a hard-on for animals starting with the letter H. Clothes? Same as Earth but better. Coffee, fruits, vegetables, and other foods? Same as Earth but better.

Romance? Insta-love and fated mates. An imitation of Ice Planet Barbarian's resonance called Infinity Pulse. A lotta sex.

Virgin MCs? They rush into it so being inexperienced doesn't matter. There's no uncertainty or curiosity.

Comedy? Where? I didn't laugh.

Adventure? Unless you count

Princess? Nope, she marries a "prince" (but he does nothing princely) and she's crowned "princess" but she does no princessly things. The royal family does nothing and it's immaterial that they're royalty because they "don't stand on ceremony" so like, why not just make them, idk, Galactic Senators or something.

If I read the phrase "many women died/perished" or "our planet reveres women" one more time I was going to chuck my kindle across the room. The storm that killed the many women is never talked about further than it was a storm, it was two years ago, and it killed a lot of women. How many? Idk. A lot. What storm? Idk. A big 'un.

The timeline in the book is all kinds of messed up. At first the FMC says humans started space travelling "a few decades ago" which I interpret to mean more than two and less than five. But then we change the narrative and start talking about how humans have been space travelling for about a century, and then we change it again to say a few centuries, and then we state that humans have been intermarrying and reproducing with Aphroditeans (?) for centuries and then we state that Aphroditeans (?) are descended from humans and share a common ancestor. The lore don't make no damn sense.

Other details change: one character, Helena, suddenly becomes Helene. The capital of the planet, Lapis Loch, suddenly becomes Misti. I'm not sure why another planet is naming capitals after Scottish words, either. The small town Silver becomes a town, then a small city, then the other major city on the planet. "Maybe the population grew!" you think. "Maybe the town was small but had a boom!" Bruh, lemme tell ya, this book takes place over the span of like, 10 days tops. It's mentioned that Aphroditeans (?) speak English and French due to their Earth-Human ancestry, but French is never mentioned again after the MMC speaks the delightfully complex French single-word sentence of "Oui."

I have this tagged as grumpy/sunshine and I honest to god don't know why. I know I found it on a SYKD website during a promo event, so I probably got the tag there, but there was no grumpy and there was no sunshine.

This book is the epitome of telling, not showing, and the dialogue is cringe. I present, for your consideration, the following examples
1. “Hee, hee.” I giggle to myself
2. My curly brown hair is a rumpled mess. “I excel at bedhead,” I announce to myself in the mirror.
3. I’m legit confused
4. I’m technically a prince, for reals.
5. “I’ve always wanted to be a princess. I think I’m uniquely qualified. For starters, I love pink.”
6. I’ll be perfectly honest now that we’ve kissed.
7. You will live in Lapis Loch, the capital of our planet. There are mountains and a lake nearby.

I honestly cannot tell you why this has the rating average it has. There's breeding kink and not much else here. Fans of sci fi will NOT like this book.

Princess for the Space Cowboy de Phoebe Belle Serie Match Made in Space libro 1

Argumento:

NOT cowboy at all 😕
I’m not one to leave low reviews because the books is not my cup of tea but the title says space cowboy. We got space but cowboy? None. There is nothing cowboy at all. And I don’t see how any of the other books would be cowboy - ish because they are just finding matches for other members of the upper class?

I love plenty of books that were alien cowboys. Just because they rode a horse once doesn’t make them a cowboy

If you’re expecting something like Ursa Dax’s ‘Married to the Alien Cowboy’ or even something like Seven brides for Seven Alien Brothers series or How the Aliens were Won series by Honey Phillips. This isn’t the book or series you’re looking for 🙁

If the title was different I wouldn’t feel this way. Perhaps the title should’ve be “A Princess for the Alien Prince”. At least then it would’ve been accurate

The writing is fine. A bit fanfic-ish (don’t get me wrong. There are great fanfics. This one just missed the mark) . Just seems more smut driven which is fine but doesn’t make a story (and I read a TON of smutty books)

My review scores are
5⭐️ AMAZING. LOVED. Will recommend and read again and again!! New Fav!
4⭐️ very good. Might read again
3⭐️ Meh
2⭐️kinda bad
1⭐️ not good

🛸Princess For The Space Cowboy - Phoebe Belle🛸

What To Expect:

🩷 Insta Attraction
🩷Human X Alien
🩷Fated Mates
🩷Breeding Kink
🩷Sci-Fi Romance
🩷He's Royalty
🩷More Spice Than Plot
🩷Fast Paced

This was my first alian romance & when I saw he was a cowboy too, I was really excited, but this was not it! There was nothing cowboy or sc-fi about this book.

Asher is a grumpy alien prince in desperate need of a princess so that his claim to the throne goes unchallenged. Jane is a human woman looking for a way to get off her planet after being betrayed by her ex-boyfriend and ex best friend. In a drunken state, she sees a job advertised looking for a princess on another planet and signs her herself up.

Aside from the whole princess thing, her new job means finding mates for the plethora of smokin’ hot alien cowboys on a planet that worships women.

This was a short, fast-paced read with more spice than plot. I did like the idea of getting human women matched with alien men on another planet that would worship and look after them as the conditions and men on earth in this novel were less than stellar.

'That intense attraction, twined within an unfamiliar emotion, shimmies to life between us. Our eyes meet. While I still have a gazillion questions, my doubts burn in the ashes of the heat of our connection.'

I really enjoyed this book. It was such a fun, fast-paced adventure. Good world building. I'm always curious why and alien species would be in need of women and I liked the concept of this one. Asher is from a planet and people that revere women, and during an annual festival to honor them, and massive storm blew through and killed many of them. It was unique and I liked that it wasn't a disease or genetic anomaly where more males were born than females.

I really liked both Jane and Asher. He's not only looking for a human mate- his princess so he can take the throne- but also one who could help matchmake more human woman to their males. The attraction between them was immediate and things got hot and heavy in moments. And then they were off to space. There was a little danger, some humor. Overall a fun read. This was the first book I've read by this author. 4 stars.

Jane catches her boyfriend cheating with her best friend and it sends her into a tailspin. She finds this ad for someone looking for a princess and applies. This leads her to Asher and becoming his bride. Her earth is different from his because it doesn't treat women well whereas his celebrates women. Once they arrive at his planet its not long before they are married, and she starts the matchmaking job she is supposed to do. Jane is a little shocked by how much she truly enjoys her new life. However, there are people out to get Asher and she may be the way they try to get to him. Can he keep her safe? Will she be able to help bring women to the planet to match with men for marriage?

This is an amazing story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book for bad Boy Update.

This book is so great, I loved it! Earth has drastically changed and is a desert almost everywhere. Jane catches her bf with her bff and that the end of them! One night she’s tipsy scrolling and finds an ad for a job being a princess. She’s had just enough to drink that she applies. Asher is the Prince on his planet, he arrives on Earth to meet Jane after she’s selected as a potential mate. After one meeting they both know they’re meant to be. There’s not a lot of drama in this book but the story starts immediately and I really appreciate that. There are lots of smexy times, cool new planet stuff to explore oh and Jane’s very hunky alien cowboy. This was a fun and quick read and I can’t wait for the next book out in this series! I read an ARC of this book and am happily leaving this review.

If you like Sci-Fi, you’ll enjoy this book. It’s overflowing with humor and was a fun, quick read. Who could have thought of this? An intergalactic dating agency and space cowboys. A planet that loves women and alien cowboys who worship them. Asher is a space cowboy who needs a Princess and his assistant places an ad on earth for one. Jane answers the ad and is hired to be the matchmaker for the planet and also Asher’s bride. She had her work cut out for her as they were so many who needed mates. A major storm had killed the women who were at the festival. Plenty of drama, angst and a little danger. A kidnapping, a threat to the throne, a baby and more. I read an arc via Bad Boy Updates and voluntarily chose to write a review.

This is book one in the Match Made in Space series and it features alien and Prince of his people, Asher and earthling, Jane. In this quick read, earth has become barely habitable and women are like second class citizens. Only the wealthy are able to travel and live on other planets. This story is Asher’s quest to find love on planet earth and return to his planet.

This is a sci-fi type of insta-love story, filled with LOTS of spice. Even though it’s a shorter read, it has the potential to be novel length with further explanation and a bit more seriousness to it. This is not within my scope of normal genres but it’s a nice break from the norm.

I love that there are cowboys in the future, and hot alien cowboys at that! Earth has changed drastically in both climate at how women are treated. Jane catching her fiancée cheating is the icing on the cake of the life she dreams of escaping. Asher needs a bride asap so they place an add for a Princess Wanted. One look and he knows Jane is meant for him, now he just needs to convince her, and get her agree to go home to his planet...and then her life begins. This has just enough intrigue and drama to go along with the smoldering passion between Asher and Jane. Great read!!! I received this ARC form Bad boy Updates

I was going to give this book 2 stars, but by the end I found orthographic errors, and for me ended up being a 1 star. This is a book that had a reviewer/editor. This is not a one man fanfic published online.
My main issue with this book, appart from being a simple and starightfoward story (no issues with that), is that it repeats itself constantly. There are phrases that are repeated constantly, without changing the words, I understant reiteration but this is not it.
Then the smut scenes are not that well written. No foreplay, no crescendo, no nothing.
The characters have no depth whatsoever, some I get, they're background characters, BUT THE 2 MAIN CHARACTERS HAVE NO DEPTH.
I finished the book out of spite, but it's a book I would have dropped.

Fun, easy story

This was a fun, quick read that was easy to read. It was pretty engaging and just lighthearted even with the issue happening with the other side of the planet. I enjoyed Asher and Jane together and things happen very quick between them but it was fun. They have the infinity pulse which only happens between true mates and not everyone finds theirs. Asher and Jane have it though and it does draw them together while things are on fast forward for them. I enjoyed this easy, lighthearted read and am looking forward to Kayden and Nadine’s story.

Such a great read.

You will not be disappointed, if you want a short, great Feels, kind of story. Earth is a mess, and women are treated like replaceable servants. Suddenly there is an Ad, looking for a Princess for a Space Cowboy. Jane thinks it's a hoax, but she was depressed and needed to see what it's all about. She arrived and quickly finds herself feeling like she's tingling all over. The big handsome guy who is staring at her is feeling like that too. A happy ending is there for her. I recommend this series.

Electric Pulses

Jane is sick of life on Earth! Her fiancé and her best friend have betrayed her and life sucks. When she sees an ad for a Princess for a space cowboy she drunkenly applies. The job will also involve some match making. For her interview she meets Asher. Immediately the two click and before she knows it, she has the job and the male. Whisked away to a new planet, she finds that Asher is a Prince, the have to be married immediately and she has 11 months to get pregnant and have a baby. Talk about pressure! It was a cute and sexy story with amusing characters.

This is not my normal pick but I thought I would give it a go and I am pleased I did as I enjoyed learning about new worlds, races and ways of life. I also enjoyed the connection, chemistry, support and respect between Asher and Jane. I saw a few things coming but I didn't mind as I enjoyed seeing these two connect and get to know each other. I am looking forward to reading more from this author and this series. I am voluntarily leaving this review after receiving an ARC.

DNF - quit at 50%
What a boring book. I lost interest & set it down, intending to pick it back up, but just couldn’t bring myself to pick it back up. Up to the 50% point when I quit, there was no excitement or real plot for that matter. The insta-love made this predictable and boring.

At my age (approaching 62), life is way to short & my time is to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

Jane and Asher

This is a very good, well written, Alien/Human romance. Jane drinks too much wine and answers an ad for a Princess after catching her fiance cheating. Asher is the Princess of his Planet and looking for a Princess. His planet needs women due to a Solar Storm killing so many women. Read how Jane and Asher meet and fall in love.

Whoa! Asher and Jane's story is one of the most sizzling sci-fi stories I've read in a while. To say their romance is fast-paced would be the understatement of the century. I love their instant connection, the so-called infinity pulse, I love the world Ms. Belle has created ... I just love everything about this perfect series starter and can't wait to read the next story about Kayden and Nadine.

Loved the whole space cowboy thing!!! Follow Jane on her adventure to new love after finding her fiance cheating with her best friend. She responds to an ad she thinks is fake, but its not, and finds instant attraction with Asher, the prince. Some good spice too 😁🔥🔥🔥

I got to page 81 and I could not handle it anymore. This needs so much more information and it moves far too quickly while also jumping around and being repetitive. It would be better at 350 pages with an actual plot and so much more going on.
