Five years ago, Adlivun defeated the Clan of Zalcan in a crushing victory. Since then, Queen Aazuria has liberated all of the oppressed underwater nations and joined them together under the crown of the Oceanic Empire.
Everyone is enjoying this time of peace, prosperity, and rebuilding, when whispers begin to surface that danger might be afoot again. The CIA has taken a special interest in Vachlan and his family, while a new threat called Leviathan baffles sea-dwellers and land-dwellers alike.
Princess Varia and her childhood friend, Glais, are now teenagers, trying to find their place in the world as they grow up at the palace. The tensions run high between them as their innocent friendship teeters on the edge of evolving into something more. Meanwhile, far from the capital and her beloved family, Queen Elandria struggles to survive the grueling training of the high priestess.
Visola seems to be concealing important information from her husband; could this bombshell upset the carefully achieved balance in their lives?
Nadia Scrieva lives in Toronto, Canada with no husband, no kids, and no pets. She does own a very attractive houseplant which she occasionally remembers to water between her all-consuming writing marathons.
Absolutely loved this book. As with all of Nadia's books you simply cannot put it down until you are finished. This is book 5 in the Sacred Breath series and by far my favorite, but then again I say that about all of them until the next one comes out. It takes place 5 years after the fall of the Clan of Zalcan, Varia is 14 and Aazuria is busy rebuilding the kingdom. With everyone spread out Vachlan tells her that they are truly only whole when the family is together and it's time to bring them all home. We see a kinder and gentler Vachlan and Visola and meet their twins. It is a time of peace but don't let that fool you. An old enemy comes back and all hell breaks loose, you will be on the edge of your seat. We see Elandria come back and throw a kink into Trevain and Aazuria's relationship. There is a moment when we see the old Trevain (pre-Elandria) but he quickly reverts back to his self absorbed poor pitiful me I have 2 wives and no one loves me. He and Elandria deserve each other as they both are into self pity. They are still my least favorite.
There is a death at the end and while I won't say who I will say that while reading I prayed that there would be a way to keep this person alive. It was so heartbreaking and leaves you exhausted and sad but it leads up to the war to come.
Nadia writes in such a way that we feel like a part of the story and we know and love these characters so when one dies we feel the pain and loss. Book 6 is called Maelstrom and I can't wait for it to come out. I am so glad that she is not tired of writing about the people of Adlivun. I can't say enough about these books and I highly recommend this series.
I loved each and everyone one of the books in this series. Nadia took our world and did a fantastic job of adding to it. The mermaids are so real and each character is so vibrant and real. I can't wait for the next book to come out.
What a roller coaster!! So many pivotal instances. Hard to read some of the stuff in this book, but OH MY GODDESS!!! Aazuria once again shows her amazing strength, Varia has so many moments, and Sionna...oh my! Not many authors can move so many emotions through me in just one "short interval"!! I just.. It is *very* important to read the other books before this one to truly understand everything!!!
Just when you think everything is settled and peaceful in Adlivun, their world gets turned upside down. Of course, leave it to the land-dwellers. I had a feeling that they would have a condescending view on the sea-dwellers and seeing our own nature, I knew they would have a problem with the obvious restrictions that come from having people live in the ocean -cough- Oil -coughcough-. It is also apparent that a part of our nature is believing we're entitled to many things because we're so advanced as a species.
I just love that right when you think that everything is settled (though we know that isn't the case, otherwise there wouldn't be a book. lol), the rug gets ripped out from under us. I loved the character development in Varia and Glais. I am very much looking forward to more of their development and the new characters added were fantastic.
It was strange seeing Mother Melusina in the alternative light. She always seemed like she was good, but I'm having doubts on that now. She's very much the kind of person that won't do anything for you unless she'll get something out of it too. She reminds me of Rumplestiltskin from Once Upon a Time in this aspect. I would be lying if I said I didn't get mad at her at those points and the more I read of her, the more I'm convinced that she's actually a delusional villain. She believes she's good, but she's actually not.
This is book 5 of the Sacred Breath series and I strongly urge you to read in the correct order for full affect and to fall in love with all the right characters. I cannot believe that this book has been just as great as the last 4. I guess I just keep expecting the story to get boring now that it has continued on but it stays so interesting and full of life. And for once we get to experience the lives of our beloved characters as they grow and learn. I have loved this series from the start and look forward to reading book 6, Maelstrom. Beware: There is loss and heartache, but there is loss and heartache in every person’s life. I think that is what makes Sacred Breath so endearing.
I think the writer has a good story line with many interesting characters. But there are so many characters to keep track of. A better proof reader would help also or maybe it's just the downloads, all the books have them. But it keeps you wondering what happens next.
I love the series! Although some turns is not what I would have wanted I look forward to book 6. She always has me on suspense and i couldnt put it down. It took me about a week to finish the whole series. I hope she finishes the next book before her August expected date.
My second favorite in the series, I do not want to spoil anything for the readers, let's just say....all hell is about to break loose, I cannot wait for the next book! I have a feeling we are about to see a Vizo that we've never seen before!!!!
OH MY GOD this book was so good! the ending I could just see in my head like a movie even the dark music that would go with it! such vivid words! love love love it
