When it Raines it pours and I’m on the bus to nowhere with a dream that shouldn’t exist

On the bus to nowhere I meet Locke Raines who is as mysterious as he is appealing. He looks familiar yet hoards secrets and pain and the only promise he’ll commit to, is that this is a one time thing. We’re both running from something and the perfect place to hide is in the idyllic little town at the end of the nowhere trip.

Locke and I are confronted by two stubborn surly alphas and a remarkable beta, if only they could see how perfect they could be together. But the longer we’re here, the more my fantasy turns into a vision of a future that I want to fight for.

Locke’s secrets won’t be silenced for long and the more I learn, the more I’m determined never to let him go.

How far will I go for a dream and a chance at a happy ending?

Erin Bradley is an alpha force unlike any our small town has ever seen. She knows herself and she knows what she wants. Us. Between Erin and Locke, we can’t stay away. They are temptation and delicious promises we have longed to hear.

Now we need to figure out a way to get along. A way to bridge the years of hate and bitter insults. If we want what she’s offering we’re going to have to learn that maybe we need each other as much as we need her. As much as Locke needs us.

He’s counting on us to find a way.

We only have a short window before it’s too late and we lose what we never knew we had.

This is why choose, meaning our FMC doesn’t have to choose her happy ending, it also has MM content and contains some themes that may be distressing. You can find a comprehensive list inside the book. Happy reading.

This one was really, really good ☺️. Erin meets Locke on a bus ride to a tiny town for her to take a break and for him to hide out for a bit. They are immediately taken with each other. There they meet Bray, Shane, and Finn who all live in there and have some pretty big issues with the town and amongst themselves.

These character are all amazing. They are not pack yet overcome their issues to become one.

There is an intriguing plot which sucks you in.

The spice is 🥵

I loved that Erin was an alpha, and the catalyst to bring them all together.

I can’t wait for the next book.

What the flying fuck did I just read? I was not prepared.

I didn’t like how fast everything was, how melodramatic everyone was acting, but I kept reading. I didn’t like the silly reasons the pack treated each other so poorly prior to meeting the MC. I didn’t like how secondary the MC felt.

I didn’t like how stupid the confrontation with the town was - seconds after maligning their little scapegoat they are begging their golden boy to give them a chance to change when the reason that they’re being toxic in the first place is because. Just. Because. He’s from a bad family. He himself never did anything. They just vented their spleens on him because he didn’t have anyone to protect or stand up for him until just now. Yeah. Totally makes sense that they’re going to settle down in that shitty town when they spent decades victimizing an innocent person.

People getting hurt around town is added at the last minute, his manager doing a 180 from raging asshole to sympathizing with him and letting him leave so he wouldn’t be in the car when it crashed and killed everyone inside gave me whiplash.

I DNF’d after the pack murdered the rest of the band. I honestly couldn’t give a rats ass about what their HEA looks like at this point.

What the fuck.

Sometimes you just need to disappear for a while. Get away from everything. Become someone else for a while.

Erin Bradley is an overworked attorney who is forcing herself to take a vacation. The small town called Twin Rivers calls to her with its auspicious population of 320 people. It’s on the bus full of elderly people to her destination that omega Locke Raines walks into her life.

Locke Rains is looking to disappear entirely, for as long as he can get away with it. He’s the front man for a rock band, and he knows neither his label or his band is going to let him go easily. But for now he’ll take this random bus to Twin Rivers with a beautiful female alpha on it and hold out hope no one ever finds him.

The Scent of Home kicks off the main storyline for the When it Raines omegaverse after the introduction we had to the Raines clan in this series’ prequel novella, Spare the Bond. This is an entertaining story about small town prejudices, changing minds, facing your fears, healing trauma with human connection, making healthy choices for yourself, and doing what needs to be done to keep your loved ones safe.

I love Tea Ravine’s books. I always have. She’s my favorite omegaverse author in the game right now and I’ll read anything she writes. I’m excited for this universe to start in earnest and can’t wait for the next book!

From the moment I started reading I was hooked. As with all Tea’s books I loved how well developed the characters and their world were.

I really enjoyed the switch up of Erin being an alpha and Locke the Omega and liked the small town setting. The story had exciting plot and explored the omegaverse world of scent matches, packs and fighting against pre-conceived ideas and opinions.

The story had just the right balance of steam and heart and I highly recommend it for anybody who loves the Omegaverse world.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Intense omegaverse. I really had no idea where this was going. The fun quirky small town characters against the dark subject matter had me stumbling a bit. In the end, a lot of revenge, and a sweet HEA rounded out this spicy omegaverse. RH with m/m.

I love when I get the chance to read an omegaverse that has something different than everything I’ve read in the past. This book is one of those different omegaverse stories. I love when an omegaverse has a female alpha and a male omega. A lot of these stories have a pack of alphas and betas who find their scent matched omega. But in this book, there is no establish pack, and even though they have feelings for each other, some of the alphas can’t stand to be around each other at first. With a male omega, we get a lot of that fragile omega that wants to be protected, but we also get the cocky, masculine attitude. One of my favorite things in this book is that, because there isn’t an established pack, it takes more for the pack to come together and takes a great omega to build their pack around. Each of the main characters is so different and they come together to create a strong, loving pack.

Locke is such a great omega. There were times when I was reading that I wanted to be his alpha, wrapping my arms around him and protecting him. He puts up this brave, cocky attitude but inside he’s suffering from his past trauma. He is mysterious when each of the new alphas meet him and when he has a nightmare that causes a complete breakdown, the rest of the pack finally finds out what he he has suffered through.

I love the three alphas and the beta. The most unique is Erin, the alpha lawyer that is on a forced vacation and runs into Locke on their way to Three Rivers. She’s tough, confident, and means what she says. She is so protective of Locke and I love how she will rip anyone apart that has hurt him. The rest of the pack has their good traits as well as something that they have suffered with in their past. But they all come together to take care of each other and show the love that they have all been craving.

This book is spicy and entertaining. The conflict that arises make this so much more than just a simple omegaverse romance. It makes the story something that you don’t want to put down.

An Enthralling Start to a Promising New Series

Sometimes, you just need to disappear for a while—to escape the noise, find yourself, and start fresh. The Scent of Home captures this sentiment beautifully, kicking off the main storyline of the When It Raines omegaverse series.

Erin Bradley, a fiercely driven attorney, is overdue for a vacation. When Twin Rivers—a small, quiet town with a population of just 320—calls to her, she decides to take the leap. On the bus ride, filled mostly with elderly passengers, Erin encounters Locke Raines, and sparks immediately fly.

Locke, a troubled omega, is the frontman of a famous rock band, desperate to escape the pressures of fame and the people who won’t let him go easily. Twin Rivers offers him a chance to vanish and take a breath, especially when a confident, alluring female alpha like Erin is along for the ride.

What follows is a heartfelt and captivating story about small-town prejudices, personal healing, human connection, and the courage it takes to make healthy choices for yourself and your loved ones. Tea Ravine weaves an intriguing plot full of emotional depth and steamy romance. The spice? Pure 🔥—and perfectly balanced with the story’s heartfelt moments.

Erin’s role as a strong, independent alpha is especially refreshing, and her presence becomes the glue that ties everyone together. Watching these characters face their fears, heal their wounds, and grow into their own makes for a truly rewarding read.

Building on the groundwork laid in the prequel novella Spare the Bond, The Scent of Home establishes an incredible foundation for the When It Raines universe. Tea Ravine’s talent for creating richly developed characters and immersive worlds shines once again, cementing her as one of the best omegaverse authors in the game.

I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. If you’re looking for an omegaverse story with heart, complexity, and sizzling romance, this is an absolute must-read!

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

3.5 stars for me — and honestly, a really enjoyable read. I love omegaverse and why-choose, and this one hit the right balance of plot, tension, and straight-up delicious spice.

Locke Raines as a male omega was such a refreshing lead. Soft where it matters, vulnerable in a believable way, but still with a backbone and a real emotional arc. His whole journey of finding safety, belonging, and actual love gave the story more heart than I expected.

And his pack? Each one brought something different without blending together:
• Erin, the female alpha, was hands-down one of my favorites. Strong, protective, grounded — her connection with Locke had weight.
• Shane had that moody, possessive alpha energy that added so much tension.
• Brayson felt like the steady, quietly protective one — the kind of presence Locke could actually lean into.
• Finn, the beta, gave the softer contrast that rounded everything out and kept the dynamic from being one-note.

What I really loved was that the spice didn’t interrupt the plot — and the plot didn’t bury the spice. Everything flowed together. The story had enough movement, climax, and emotional payoff that each character felt like they could carry their own book. It never dipped into “pure erotica with thin plot,” even though the heat level is high.

It’s not my absolute favorite omegaverse ever, but I definitely liked it. It was fun, well-balanced, emotionally warm, and satisfyingly spicy. A great pick if you love male omegas, strong female alphas, and packs where every character actually matters.

This book? This book devoured me.

It starts with literal fire and only gets hotter. We’ve got one Omega on the run, one badass female Alpha (yes, finally!), and a full cast of complex, emotionally messy men who somehow made me want to adopt them and ruin them. The tension? Off the charts. The smut? Frequent, filthy, and feral. The emotional angst? Maybe a touch overdone in places, but still addictive.

There were moments where I felt like the growth arcs were dragging a bit while the actual external tension simmered quietly in the background—and when that plot finally boiled over, it felt a little fast and easy. I kind of wish that balance had been flipped: a bit less emotional back-and-forth on repeat, a bit more time unraveling the darker elements of Locke’s situation. That said, the ending still hit, and the journey was absolutely worth it.

And listen… this pack? Hot. Complicated. So stupid with feelings that I wanted to scream at them. But the payoff? Bunny-level chaos. I was very entertained.

It’s one of the most refreshing takes on the Omegaverse I’ve read in a long time. Everyone’s strong, no one’s a doormat, the chemistry is nuclear, and I already have the author pinned to my watchlist. The next books are about other characters and I’ll probably circle back once I recover from this emotional gangbang.

Highly recommend—especially if you're into knotting, angst, found family, and characters who fuck like their lives depend on it.

When it Raines, it pours, I wholeheartedly agree. This is one more jewel in the crown or more like one more book in Tea Ravine writing's crown. There is something irresistible in the way her plot lines pull a reader in, something undeniably magical in the way love, loss and heartbreak are always represented. She not just creates characters, but breathes life in them gently and very loving and leaves you a little empty when the last page comes.
I hate summarizing plots, preferring to revel in the feelings a book evokes in me. Hurt, healing and figuring out your priorities and what you want from your life are heavily emphasized in the Scent of home. Maybe I think, if Home has a scent this story is a very good contender for the ultimate praise - the salty tang of freshly shed tears, the creamy lightness of happiness, the bitter after taste of disappointment, the overwhelming dizziness of joy, all mixed together.
Under the lights and music of Twin rivers festival, Shane, Erin, Locke, Bray and Finn meet in a tangle of emotions, heavily influenced by their history and the past that keeps intruding in what they are trying to build together. Twin Rivers might be breathtakingly beautiful on the surface, a seemingly perfect place to meet your scent matches but there are secrets and darkness, hiding underneath the sparkle. While the town is a loving mother for some of the people living there, for others it's the evil Step mother.
It was captivating to read and heart touching to experience.

I like Ravine's other series, and I've been curious about this new series. Plus, I keep seeing the covers for them all the time, and I wanted to give it a try because it seemed like it was going to be more on the suspense side than the previous series, and that's something I really wanted from those previous books. However, this one just didn't work for me. It was alright overall, I just wish we had focused more on the suspense because we had so many angles where it could've been sprinkled in! Especially from the three guys in this small town! There was so much tension between them from the very first page, and the book's kind of a slow burn for them since it takes time for all 3 to finally come together! Then there was all fo the small-town drama. One of the guys was like the person the town held on a pedestal and could do nothing wrong, while the other was the one that they literally blamed everything on! So that alone had so much to add in here. Then Erin and Locke's past are full of it. There was just so much potential, but the steam just took over, and it just felt a little too choppy. We would be in one scene where they are making progress to boom a couple of weeks down the road, and back to fighting. It was just a bit all over the place. We just had so many different stories trying to melt together that it just didn't mix well, and it just all felt jumbled in the end.

Within the chaos Locke is the key

I definitely was not prepared for all I got in this book. This is a group of people finding their pack when everything was feeling so empty.

Erin the female Alpha is of to nowhere to find herself and relax. Locke the hidden rockstar running from a lot. Finn the Beta who was trying to do everything while being so terribly lonely. Bray the outcast bad boy mechanic stuck in his mothers shadow. Shane the author hiding from the world.

When Locke meets Erin on the bus they decide to hang out in this tiny no where town for a few weeks and enjoy whatever may come. Turns out the town is in the middle of a crazy celebration that means their only place to stay is next to the cabin of the grumpy author.

Come see how these guys come together against all odds to support Locke. As they days pass they all slowly realize what it is they have been missing in their lives. Will this town and these people finally find home?

I absolutely loved this story. Throughout I just wanted to bundle each of them up and hold them. Each of them have been battling against things they didn't even know where holding then down. I definitely missed some clues as to what was going on that surprised me upon reveal.

What happens when two random people meet on a bus and end up in a small town? They find their happily ever after with the towns residential grump, the golden boy, and the bad boy! Turns out that everyone is holding a flame for one another! Locke is running from his abusers, Erin is running from a life that no longer fulfills her needs, Bray just wants to belong, Shane is wary of relationships, gets overstimulated easily for such a big guy, and Finn doesn’t want to let anyone down so he just goes with the flow. Locke’s past catches up to him and takes Pack Bradley on for a wild traumatic ride! When you thought it was just one culprit and it turns out it was the lot of them! We get to Erin turn beast mode to protect what’s her! Love Erin DOWN! All the characters meshed well together! Their chemistry with each other was off the charts. The character development was beautiful and brilliant! Finn taking up for Bray (FINALLY) and confessing his love was a major SWOON loved every minute of that (so did Erin). I honestly can’t wait to read more from this series! Pack Bradley has its tough obstacles to overcome and they did triumphantly! I really enjoyed this book!

Almost a cute small town romance with a mystery, but there were a number of darker themes being addressed throughout making it a heavier read.

One of our MMCs has been feeling trapped and had been actually at times locked away, by whom we don’t know, but with his life burning down around him he finally runs. Our FMC has been put on a mandated vacation and decides she’s done sitting around her condo after a few days, so she hops on a bus headed to a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. On this bus headed to nowhere is where our first MMC and FMC meet.

I really adored all of the MCs by the end of the book, some had more growing up to do than others, but they all got there in the end. The building of all the relationships took time in the best way, they were all complicated characters and factoring in everyone’s pasts really didn’t make it easy on anyone. There was of course the struggle with communication, but everyone’s preconceived notions from past hurts made it all the more difficult.

I will definitely be picking up the next book in this interconnected series to read the story of the next family member that we know has also been hurt.

Omegaverse is quickly becoming an area that I absolutely LOVE to read. From the moment I picked up this book, I was sucked in and locked there. I was going to go on a wild ride with the characters -- not that I was complaining!
Things start off heated (literally) before gears shift and we're introduced to both Locke and Erin. Two people from different worlds who happened to end up on the same bus to a small town. A small town that, it seems, very protective of its own -- for the most part. (Not revealing that! ;) )
It was interesting to see how everyone starts coming together. Three town natives, plus our lovely Erin and Locke. All of them coming from vastly different worlds with souls haunted by unique pain. I couldn't get enough of the way bonds started to grow.
Be prepared, y'all. This book has steam. It's got secrets. We've also got some very protective alphas, an omega who wants something different, and a misunderstood beta. The bonds that form is an amazing sight to behold!!
AMAZING job, Tea Ravine!! I can't wait to read your next book!!

Tea has a way with characters. I’m not typically a fan of female Alphas but they really are intriguing people when written by Tea. Several books I have read by other authors paint female alphas similar to male alphas with different equipment. Teas alphas are just women, with a strong, and feminine, and only dominant when the situation calls for it. I love all her books and was happy that she has written another series. If you like OV you will love any of Tea Ravines books. Now review if this book, I was seriously thinking a few days before I picked this one up there’s hardly any books that are predominantly from a males perspective. And while this book isn’t necessary all Locke, I love that it started from his pov. Each of the characters have equal pov time in this story. Erin is a typical overachiever forced on holiday by her employer. And along the way builds the pack of her dreams. She shares a lot of characteristics with me, probably why I loved reading her so much. How far would you go? Key phrase throughout the entire book.

You had me...

Then you lost me. I really enjoy the omegaverse and look forward to books from authors I've read. Here's the thing, I don't have a problem with the general "environment" you find in these stories. I, just personally, don't do shape-shifting or Mpreg. It's not my thing.
I like gray characters. Have no problem with possessive and over the top alphas. I can picture the characters, and I'm off to my omegaverse dreamland. Usually. I should say. I had problems with the character concepts and found myself creating their attributes myself instead of the author's because, quite frankly, it just didn't make sense. The plot is flinsy. Adding instances where grave things happen and the handling of those issues with a dark response doesn't actually work if the setup is, again, flinsy. I read Nest Of Lies and enjoyed it. This book.. lost me. Adding a breeding sentence, literally one sentence that pertains to the male omega just ripped the whole mess apart.

Definitely at high angst 'why chose' novel! You will love it all. The characters, the town, and the plot. Between the heightened emotions, strong personalities, and steamy scenes you will not be able to put this book down! If you dont mind sensitive and tough topics and the internal/external conflicts, you'll enjoy this. It is so well written that it's almost like you are there, experiencing Locke's fear, Shane's anxiety, Finn's loneliness, Bray's isolation, and Erin's depression. But at the same time get to see each of them come together and grow. Shedding that baggage and turning it all into something positive. You get to see their passions and love burn bright. More thoughts and feelings of trust, safety, love, companionship, and happiness. Basically a the true scent of coming home! Highly recommend reading this one!

Scent of Home is an omegaverse with a male omega, female alpha, an unformed pack, and a bit of suspense. If you are sensitive to certain triggers, read the content warnings first. This book had me in my feelings. Each main character was dealing with something that affected their relationships with other people. Loneliness, past trauma, feelings of inadequacy, and so on. I think these misfit people coming together, overcoming the what ifs, and learning to love is one of the sweetest stories I've read in a while. While there is some angst between some of the characters, through it all, I felt the need to love and be loved. It is a story of hope. I love all of Tea Ravine's stories, and this one is no exception. She writes beautiful and engaging characters that pull at your heartstrings from the first chapter. I am excited to see what will happen with Lia in the next book in this series.

This is the first book in the When It Raines Omegaverse duet. This is also my first time reading a Tea Ravine book and I am so happy I did! This book had me in tears, pi$$ed as H-LL, happy and ready for some smexy time!! This was such an emotional read!
There were a couple of things I loved about this book. The first is the role reversal of a female alpha and a male omega. I have only come across this type of story a handful of times. The second thing is the darkness that comes from a couple of the characters that you never expected! And what truly stands out from this story is the omega’s purr. You have to “read” it in action to understand the woah factor!
Thank you, Tea Ravine for such a great story and characters! I need to read your other books because this story captured my attention and my imagination! You made my hot flashes worse! LOL

Warning : if you don't like miscommunication trope, this book is not for you.

It was a challenge to finish. I got so much whiplash in this book that I was lost.
I feel like all they do is run. Something is not going their way ? They leave. A conversation a bit emotional ? Walk through the door. Trying to get a MC to open up ? He's already in the woods.

MC's are described as complex, sometimes they're sweet, caring and vulnerable and other times, they're badass. Pretty good thing for me. But everything felt off. Some issues could have been solved quickly, if. only. they. talked. about. it. And it's not just in the beginning, but also after they realized they're scent matched. I didn't get any characters' development.

Would have love to give it more than 1 star, but it's been a few days since I've read it and the frustration is not gone. Sorry.

LOVED! I absolutely love Tea Ravine’s books. I get so excited each time a new book comes out by this author! The writing is well done and it flows so good. I absolutely love the depth the characters have to them. Each one brings something different to the table and relationship.

I really loved Erin and was so excited that she was a female alpha. I love that she will do whatever to protect who she loves and adores. It just has a way of making me smile. I really enjoyed the MMCs and loved how the pack fit together. They each brought something different to the table.

Overall, this book was so good. Highly recommend if you love omegaverse. I could not put it down. I stayed up late to finish this beauty and I don’t regret it one bit lol.

I LOVED the Omega Accords so I had high expectations going into this book. The characters designations and dynamics were good but the writing was not. I wish this story was written by someone else. There was just some carelessness to it. At times you’d like wait who’s talking? Or there was a group scene where it mentions the alphas but it was the alpha and beta. Plus the dog. Why did it need to be part of the story? Was there a word count the author had to fulfill?

Anyways, I love a good female alpha and Erin did not disappoint. I didn’t like Finn (beta) but I liked the dynamic of the male alphas and their relationship. Maybe the beta should’ve been a female? That would’ve been interesting.

When I first started this book, I was completely confused. I really couldn't work out what was going on. But as the story developed, it became a lot clearer. I'm not really one for reading books with female Alphas (my preference), but this one felt different reading it. I did enjoy it, and the parts where there characters were intermit with each other were great and the story line picked up after about half way after getting to know each character and a little bit if back story and once they became.a pack it was great to see the relationships develop and actually how far the Alphas with go to protect their Omega and their pack.
Brayson was definitely my favourite character. Bad boy reputation but with a heart of gold even if no one else in town saw that about him. He just wanted to prove himself worthy of them, and with the help of Erin and Locke, s he did that and more.
I just loved him

So FYI there's some things you may want to check triggers on...(not within the pack though).

Anyhow...it was okay, not my favorite but not bad. It was a little confusing at first, keeping the alphas straight (not Erin, obviously) as far as who has what backstory and what personality. I think it was a little unbelievable that the entire town would suddenly do a 180 but okay...

I did like Erin's strength. I'm not always a fan of female alphas but she was consistent. Sometimes they can get lost once the male omega comes into the scene when the FMC is supposed to be the leading character. The author did a good job balancing that.

Two strangers meeting on a bus to a smalltown where they meet their scent matches.

Locke was absolutely adorable but had such a horrible life before meeting his scent matches.

Erin fiesty and protective.

Shane moody but a big softie under his shell.

Finn the guy everyone in town loves but is secretly depressed and hiding his feelings for the guys he likes.

Finally Brayson the misunderstood 'bad boy' who is actually the most caring guy.

Honestly one of my favourite omegaverse books. Just found out there is a prequel so going to read that before the second book 😊

this author is an amazing writer. I don’t typically read stories with solo male omegas but I did read this. the author has a gripping way of telling a story.

I really liked the fmc of the story, she was amazing and honestly why I was able to get through the story so easily. the mmc’s were well written as well. I know plenty of people who would love this story so I think it’ll be a hit. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. as I mentioned I really like how this author writes.

I did receive this an arc and all opinions are my own.

this book will release on december 2, 2024 and will be on ku.
