ULTIMATE HAWKEYE TARGETS CAPTAIN AMERICA! Hawkeye No More? Not for long! A new challenger approaches when an unknown civilian picks up a discarded bow and arrow - and refuses to let the Ultimates reclaim the stolen Stark Tech! Captain America tries to settle the dispute, leading to an action-packed brawl of arrows versus shields! Meanwhile, the Ultimate Hellfire Club is up to something…
A “we’re back” moment for this series. This is the most resonant approach to contemporary social issues that Camp has tried so far. That combined with a great battle between Cap and Hawkeye made for an awesome issue.
Keeping in theme with issue #2, Ultimates #5 has Deniz Camp giving us social commentary wrapped up in an introductory battle between Earth-6160’s Cap and Hawkeye.
I’ve never been a fan of 616 Hawkeye, guys a douche imo, so it’s nice to see this Hawkeye.
Let’s call him the people’s Hawkeye, named Charli (or so he says). Anyway, the sci-fi elements found in the tech were fun, the art and colors popped off the pages, and showed that if Camp keeps this up? Hell, we may have a classic on our hands.
This is another one of those issues I use to sell people on reading this book! It’s another new character taking up a 616 mantle: Charli Ramsey, our Ultimate Hawkeye! They’re so based because the book is about them blowing up Roxxon oil pipelines that go through their ancestral land, so once they explain that to Cap, he just joins them in beating up AIM goons. Again, imagine if Captain America from Earth 616 or Earth-199,999 had even a fraction of this sauce! I’m super stoked for the one-shot about this Hawkeye, by the way!
This book just won’t stop being amazing. The new Ultimate Hawkeye may be my favorite Ultimate yet! This was an awesome character introduction by Deniz Camp. They’re confident, snarky, political, & a total bad@$$. LOVE THEM.
I thought it was an insanely smart to juxtapose their introduction in a confrontation with Captain America for obvious reasons, yet Camp’s dialogue was so smart. I do hope we start to see more team ups, but the cliffhanger makes me think that’s not too far off.
Another smart, sharp issue with important social commentary done in a nuanced way that advances the story and builds out the Ultimate world (in a way that’s much more like our world than the 616 universe…)
Pues nada. Sigue siendo una gozada estas reformulaciones Ultimate. Si terminas el número no aupando a este Hawkeye que recoge el carcaj del héroe predestinado con la dignidad y estilo que le gustaría a Clint Barton, pues es una lástima.
Liked the take on Hawkeye, but found the art to be severely lacking. Feels like they took a couple small panels and really blew them up for a couple pages for whatever reason
A cool twist on the mantle of hawk eye and a cool costume design at that. I like that Charli has attitude but isn’t insufferable, you can understand where he’s coming from.
Love the new portrayal of Hawkeye and the commentary for the character. I love how much care is placed for the characters and the world it’s building for this series.
