I know that the only time a person starts a sentence with “I just think it’s funny how…” is when they’re angrier than they’ve ever been in their life, but I swear that’s not the case here! …I just think it’s funny how comic books always have way better art on the cover than on the inside. I mean, I get it, you’ve got to get people to buy the thing, but it’s always been one of my pet peeves, you know? Of course, I don’t mean this as a disrespect to the artists of this issue. It’s more of a personal preference thing… in that the art in this issue isn’t really my thing. This is kind of the same reason why I’ve never really been able to get into One Piece despite all the anime bros on Twitter telling me that it’s wa~aay better than Dragon Ball. Hey, a manga can be the best of the best, but I’m afraid I’ll never come around to it if I don’t gel with the art style. This is my way of saying that I really enjoyed the story here, as Miles Morales is my favorite Spider-Man and the fact that he’s joining up with the man himself, Black Panther is really cool. Count me in! My issue with this issue was that I didn’t really think the art lived up to the dynamic action that the cover promised. As an aside, and let me preface this next statement by saying that I don’t mind Macklemore (incoming hater alert), I’m sure he’s a fine man with a haircut that’s not at all embarrassing, but I just think it’s funny how his songs always have this infectious and catchy chorus that you can’t help but want to hum along to, but then when it gets to the actual rapping, the man sounds like he’s fighting for his life just to stay on beat. Like damn, you're a rapper, just ride the wave dude. All out here sounding like an Uruk Hai on the mic. Gravelly ass flow. A song with nice set dressing, but not much in the way of meaningful content. Oh, by the way, I’m risking my life putting this in writing because Macklemore slander is considered blasphemous in Seattle. They won’t have it! Don’t worry about me though, I’ll go into hiding after posting this. As an aside to the aside, I saw this tweet earlier that was like, “People who refuse to read pre-2000’s comics because of the art and the dialogue are so odd!” And while I kind of get the sentiment, as we should always appreciate art from the days of yore, I just think it’s a funny way of wording it. Like, “Grr, I can’t believe some people judge comics on things like art and dialogue,” it’s not like comics are a visual medium and those things are the most important things to get right, right!? Anyway, this really wasn’t bad, and I’m not a big fan of disparaging things like writing and art styles (which sounds odd because this is a review, I know), and I never want to come across as mean-spirited, so instead I figured I'd just list a few things that I found funny.
