Deadly curses. Forbidden love. Beware when the full moon rises…
There are two truths Collin and Izzy know better than their own when moonlight shines, the horde strikes. And when the full moon rises, so does the wolf. These are the two threats they’ve trained to fight. Heavy expectation follows their every move, for among the Red Cloaks they are nearly unbeatable…as long as they stay together.
Izzy is tired of secrets. Tired of endlessly searching for answers that always seem just out of reach, and tired of hiding the endless draw she feels toward Collin. The cloak she first donned so proudly becomes more of a burden each day, for with it she’s commanded to shoulder the weight of the city…and forbidden from acknowledging that Collin owns her heart.
Collin will never leave Izzy’s side, no matter what force tries to tear them apart…even if that means breaking the vows he swore when he joined the order of the Red Cloaks. Disobedience might mean death, but will his commander really punish his two best warriors when they’re fighting a war on two fronts? While the horde besieges the city, he and Izzy are safe. As long as they don’t cross that final line.
But no secret can last forever. As Collin and Izzy come closer and closer to the truth behind the wolf curse, their own secrets are threatened with exposure. And not even the Red Cloaks are safe from the wolf moon. When it rises, one man will become the wolf…and one woman the foil meant to destroy him. Will Collin and Izzy’s love for each other prove to be their greatest weapon, or their fatal weakness?
The Changed Hearts Collection is a series of loosely connected fairy tale retellings meant to capture the wonder of fairy tales with a darker twist. Read today for adventure, no spice romance, and hard-won happily ever afters. Great for fans of K.M. Shea and Brittany Fichter!
This was the star-crossed lovers story I’ve been looking for! I loved everything about this book! The romance was perfection and the battle of good vs evil kept me on the edge of my seat. I feel like there is so much more I’d like to know about this world and its history (i.e. the werewolves and their original purpose and what that looked like) But even if more isn’t shared, I got a wonderful, complete story. Sometimes I like an open ended world where not everything is explained. It lets you fill in the blanks yourself and keeps the world alive in your mind. Collin and Izzy are precious and I adore them.
Maegan never disappoints and I love each of her books I’ve read. She blends together fantasy with Biblical truths so well! Her books are like beacons pointing to the great Author. Her stories entertain, enrich, and encourage and I cannot rave about them or this book, specifically, enough. 😁
(I received a free eARC in exchange for my honest review)
A city under siege, a dark werewolf curse, and two hunters who were never supposed to fall in love . . .
This was such a compelling, immersive read. There are hints of Little Red Riding Hood, but it reads well as a standalone romantasy. Collin and Izzy have such a deep bond, and I loved seeing their pure love for each other despite the vows of celibacy they were forced to take in order to defend their city from the monsters outside and within. Speaking of monsters, this story is the perfect spooky season read because it is so creepy in the most interesting way, especially the intriguing twist on werewolves...
Note for more sensitive readers: There is violence, on-screen death, and tragic pasts as well as innuendos directed against the innocent main couple.
I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
The perfect dark fantasy with noblebright characters!
This book absolutely makes you earn the happily ever after. The mystery and plot twists and the fate of the MC makes your heart stop a few times. And the end leaves you with just the right amount of questions to eagerly await the next book.
Love this one so much! A bit darker than my usual reads but perfect for spooky season! Also I rarely read werewolf books but I knew if anyone could write a werewolf story I would love it would be Maegan Simpson and she did not disappoint! My favorite Little Red Riding Hood retelling that I've read so far! What I LOVED about this book: ❤ Werewolves (the fantasy kind NOT the alpha, fated mates romance kind) ❤ Star-crossed lovers, forbidden romance (clean, just kissing) ❤ Childhood friends to sweethearts ❤ Burn the world down for each other! (Loved this!!!!!) ❤ "Grandfather" in the woods This was so, so good!!!!! Not as cozy more of a fantasy feel as there was fighting between the Red Cloaks and trolls and goblins and such. Definitely reccomend! Part of a series but can easily be read as a standalone. Hoping for more adventures with these two! Favorite quote: “If we die tonight,” Collin murmured, “we go to the Almighty.” Izzy pulled in a slow breath, her own voice a whisper as she completed the prayer. “If we survive, we thank the Almighty.” Favorite scene: their stolen moments, specifically when he gives her the necklace Favorite character: Izzy (our main female character)
