Ghost story? Yes. Mystery? You bet! Brilliantly keeps the listener on the “edge”, wondering, at times worrying for characters that have become as familiar as friends? Oh holy wow YES! “Amber House” is ALL of this and so much more! I loved the dark “noir” feeling that prevailed as I was drawn deeper and deeper into the world of Amber House, its history and the lives of both current occupants, and those of days past. I can’t divulge details without giving away what deserves to be experienced “in the moment” by each listener, but I can say that this stunning story is brilliantly executed in every way, beginning with a flawless, cohesive plot that holds one’s interest throughout! One that flows smoothly and wraps beautifully, leaving no unanswered questions, paired with breathtakingly beautiful narration that brings everything our author envisioned to living, breathing, emotionally, spectacular life! I loved everything about “Amber House”, the fabulous characters, the stunning story, the performance, the feel, EVERYTHING! Five fantastic stars!
Amber House is a breathtaking and complex poignant story as Emmie and her friends descend upon Las Vegas to Amber House, an old theater set to rise from the ashes by a friend Emmie hasn't seen since her college days. But it's not a friendly reunion, as Nova is desperate for Emmie to discover what exactly is happening within the theaters old bones and turning into a haunting battleground as Nova's father wishes of his daughter's success as an illusionist while the man's distaste for believing the ghosts of dead magicians could be the cause behind harrowing accidents that are pushing Nova into their dark cross-hairs. As Emmie, Finn, Jason and Sarah plunge deeper into Amber House's complicated past and the fiery egos of the men whom graced its stage... the darkest of spirits and even the magician's own troublesome assistants play their malicious games to protect the harrowing, tragic truth that's is a mesmerizing as any illusionist trick.
Once again, I've never had so much fun being haunted. The Emmie Rose mysteries are haunting, ghostly and chilling, but also engaging, fast-paced and entertaining. When I realized this one was about magicians in a haunted theater, I was beyond thrilled and it didn't disappoint. The story is unique and keeps you guessing, with a totally surprising ending I didn't see coming. But the warmth and camaraderie I've come to expect from this series is still there and really makes you feel at home with these characters. In this outing, Emmie and her friends aren't exactly wanted by all those involved, but they manage to persevere and get the job done. I say it every time, but once I finish one of these books, I immediately want the next one. As far as I'm concerned, this series can go on forever.
***I received an ARC of this book from the author. My review is strictly voluntary.***
Yet another enjoyable adventure for the supernatural sleuth and her gang as they try to uncover the origins of the haunting of a theatre that an aspiring magician is determined to open against the wishes of her father. Numerous spectral suspects float about the novel and the reasons behind the attitude of family members towards the opening give another layer to the plot not to mention an occasional mishap and murder. My review might seem opaque concerning the plot but I don't want to give too much away and deprive readers of the pleasure of reading it. Buy it and enjoy it
Audiobook: I enjoyed this book as much as the others in the series. I admired the complexity of this case since Emmie Rose and her group of friends were investigating a theater fraught with ghosts and clever magicians whose illusions seemed very real. There were moments when chills ran up my back. I was so absorbed by the story, that I listened to the whole audiobook in one sitting. I was entertained by Kasi Hollowell's narration, and her performance kept my attention. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
When Emmie gets a call for help from an old college friend Nova, she and the team go Las Vegas to ann old theatre called Amber House. Nova is desperate for Emmie to discover what exactly is happening, As Nova feels spirts in the theatre and are getting angry and want her out. Emmie, Finn, Jason and Sarah look into the past of Amber House's , which is filled of past egos of the once illusionist that stood on its boards. The darkest being the assistants who play their games to protect the tragic truth and wow that is just as amazing as watching any illusionist trick.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review
I get bored with lots of suspense books because by the time you reach page 3 you figured out most of it and by the time you hit page 15 you know exactly what's going to happen. This is 1 of those books that you think you have it figured out And then maybe you were wrong And then when they introduce something near the end of the book you can See the ending Not quiet all of it!
This author has the ability to draw the reader in and feel the heart pounding fear of the characters. I couldn't stop reading, wondering how Emmie and her friends were going to solve this haunting. While she was asked to come, she finds that not everyone welcomes her presence and doubt her ability. I was on the edge of my seat throughout. I would definitely recommend it. I received a free copy of this book from the author and this is my honest review.
I enjoyed this book. Emmie Rose deals with self-doubt while trying to help a friend. A very strong ghost and a hostile working environment don't make her work any easier.
Emmie gets a troubled video message from an old friend begging for her help in an old theater in Las Vegas. There’s lots of twists and turns in this ghost story. I enjoy this series and hope the next book gets here soon.
Enjoyed this book. There were so many characters to figure out that it felt a little distracting. Emmie tries to contact some ghosts on her own and finds out that the team works better together.
