3.4 Stars - Cute "boy" love. A "first time" novella

Winter Chill is a smexy college-YA novella set in Christmas times. Young men experience feelings and yummy moments for the first time.

I got this freebie two years ago and added the 2:50 hrs audiobook (only $2) narrated by Michael Pauley this morning. Glad I took a chance (...once again).

*********************************************************

Indie Walker didn't know he had a "thing" for his roommate Daniel —or boys— before that snowy winter night their room at a Plymouth, Massachusetts College is really chilly. A shared bed for warmth change everything.
‘The next morning, I slipped out of bed before Daniel woke up. It was still freezing so instead of crawling into my own, cold-as-a-block-of-ice bed, ...’

 photo imagejpg2_zps06fa3d35.jpg

‘... I was filled with anxiety. Part of me terrified that he’d be gone and the other part excited to see him. As soon as my head passed the floor boards and I saw his arm dangling over the side of the bed, happiness pushed the fear right out of me.’

Winter Chill was a touching sweet short-story to listening to. No big drama, quite a lot of smexy steam and two nice main characters. Enjoying romantic and very well narrated as well.

OMG. So this was a freebie and I just had to have it. At just before midnight, I’m wanting to read a book. I have a ton to pick from, but I know that I need something quick or else I’ll be up all night and that just won’t do. So Winter Chill was the lucky pick for the night and holy-jizz-in-your-pants, was this the best choice ever.

Andrew “Indie” Walker and his college roommate, Daniel find themselves starting their winter break with a snowstorm that not only grounded, Indie’s flight to Florida but also knocked out the power at their dorm, leaving them in freezing temperatures. So what are two besties going to do besides climb into bed and secretly jerk off!

Who would have thought that a little hand to man love would have caused Indie to look at Daniel in a whole new light? Suddenly boners are bouncing up everywhere and Daniel seems to think that boredom and downtime makes for perfect penis-play-time even if you’re a straight guy... hmm.... not quite sure about that!

Although the author had a steamy little read with just all the sexy times, she didn’t just stop there – we still got a story out of this that had a bit more depth than I expected.

Already downloaded other titles from this author and can’t wait to read them!!!

Writing by numbers, further let down by unpleasant misogynistic caricatures of all women. They are either clingy low-EQ wannabe girlfriends, slutty cougar step-mothers, mothers who ran out on their toddler sons, or shopping-obsessed teenagers. Apart from the narrator's mother, of course, who is perfect. Wish I hadn't read this.

Michael Pauley did such an incredible job narrating this book. A 5+* performance. In fact, his narration added a star to my initial 2 for the book.

The story itself didn't work for me personally. Insta-love, insta-sex, a skeevy stepmother, too many lose ends and much too short to do anything about it. It was an underdeveloped cookie cutter plot.

The narrator saved this book.

The one good thing about this book was the narration by Michael Pauley. He gave some life to the characters and mostly let me ignore the bland plot and tasteless cougar stepmom.

For those of you who like deflowerings, both MCs lose theirs the same night. You, know within minutes. Hearty and Hale college boys rarin’ to go.

A sweet story with more depth than I expected for a short story.

Indie (Andrew) is a college student that is just starting his winter holiday when the power goes out. To stay warm, he ends up sharing a bed with his roommate Daniel. From there he realizes he may have feelings for his friend that he is not sure how to come to terms with.

Indie is very innocent in many aspects. His prior relationship status overall in nonexistent. He doesn't know how to deal with his new-found urges and feelings. Let alone the question of what Daniel thinks. Daniels is a lady's man. His most recent girlfriend is a bit crazy-clingy for just about anyones taste.

From their we get Daniel's sex-starved stepmom who hits (hard) and any guy she can set her sights one. She scared the crap out of me. I would run and never look back if I was either of these guys. So this is not going to be an easy discovery of love. But that is what this is.

It is sweet and endearing. And a bit steamy too! All around a good read.

This is a sweet romance about two roommates who fall in love.

Sure, it was a bit OTT angsty at points, but I really enjoyed this. The narration by Michael Pauley was great (especially the sexy times), and I just sat back and enjoyed.

Where this fell short for me, pun intended, is in the length. Where this ends is where I feel the real meat of the story would come from.

Sure, they're together... So ultimately these were the things I was left wondering.

Oh the authors so nailed the intricacies of Indie's character! This was a terrific 'young guys discovering love' story. The way the story builds, I could just see it all happening and the pacing was perfect. Tiny little bit of angst that just cemented the emotions and made the connection between the two MC's that much better.

It was so good and I'm totally impressed.

Also, I did the audio version and Michael Pauley was fantastic.

My Thoughts Before Reading Winter Chill:

The synopsis of the story has me thinking: A power outage during a winter storm!? That's my life right now! It must be fate! I'm going to have to read this!! Plus it's friends to lovers! Yes. And I like other Aria Grace works.

So. Here. We. Go!

Ooh I just started reading! And they mention Plymouth, Massachusetts. Hey! I know that place! Ive been there a bunch! Its Where the Pilgrims landed!

The sentiments about all this snow are the same as mine!

So many coincidences already!

Ooh I'm excited for this!

My Toughts After Reading Winter Chill:

First off, I liked this story because it basically took place in my back yard! Which had me all giddy! They mention the towns of Plymouth and Hanover, Massachusetts which I have been to many times, so I thought that was cool. Yay for Massachusetts! When the Hanover Mall and movie theater was mentioned, I could actually envision the actual movie theater and mall and the restaurant the characters went into. So I felt sort of special! I don't care if it's lame! I liked it! So it gets a rating boost. No doubt! But I would have rated this in the 4 star - 5 star range anyways.

This is the story of two college roomies who are friends and are stuck together in their dorm room during a winter
Power outage. (Unfortunately, this would be impossible in Massachusetts. Right now in my state there are many homes without heat/power and you simply cannot survive over night. U would literally freeze! Even in the story they say the dorm building is like 29 degrees Fahrenheit. I mean, u would freeze. And it would be scary pitch black. And how did the generators not work? But anyway, that is the catalyst as to how these friends turn into lovers. Awwwww. and there is no college campus in Plymouth, Ma. But that's obviously okay and a part of the story.) but this story does not just take place in the dorm. It takes places other places as well. It even crosses state lines! Wow!

I liked these Characters. I feel like at times their relationship and how it unraveled seemed a little too unrealistic and a little too neat and tighty, but that's ok. I would have liked this to have been even longer with more chance for the characters romantic relationship and sexual explorations to build up even further, but as it is a novella, for what it was, I thought it was good.

This is similar to Aria Grace's other novellas and as I liked those, I liked this too. And I would imagine that if u like Aria Grace's other novellas, that you will like this too.

I don't know how I felt about the stepmom issue, but I wasnt turned off too badly, as it served its purpose to the plot.

My Other Thoughts:

So all in all, an enjoyable novella!

Happy Reading!

This was a sweet, light, and quick read. I always have to say I am obsessed with His Undoing by this author, so that's always hard to live up to. Although both stories star college roommates they are in fact, very different. Both boys are straight in this... or so they think!

I liked this and the pace it went at felt natural, for the most part. Of course there was a little rush at the end there but that's OK. Since Indie was our narrator, and Daniel was sort of the instigator, I have to say I thought things would play out differently , so I was a little hesitant to believe Daniel had all of a sudden changed his player ways and was a little gun-shy about trusting him. Or course he ended up being super sweet though and they were good together.

I do think it would have helped a little if we got more background on the boys and their previous relationship. The initial impression was that they were just roommates, sure they ended up hanging out but it seemed more a friendship of convenience. Later when Indie told Daniel he was his best friend, and Daniel agreed, I have to say I was surprised. Maybe I would have felt more trusting of them together initially if it came across that they were besties earlier on.

This book was a giveaway by the author. As I loved both books I read by her previously I was looking forward to reading this one. Although it took me some time til actually getting to it, once I started I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting over the last couple of hours. Very good writing, I felt the connection between Indie and Daniel, how they started as roommates and then gradually, first for Indie, but then also for Daniel, their relationship changed. Very good read indeed. What kept me from giving 5 stars: But that's just me.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly. The way that both Andrew and Daniel came together was very well written. My compliments to Ms Grace. The "first time at college" theme has been done a thousand times but it worked perfectly here. Good secondary characters, nice pace and hot sex all wrapped up in a short story. Give it a try.

This was an engaging sexual-awakening story with some outdated attitudes that were not handled with the care they'd need. This story is over a decade old now, and I'm hoping the authors would do it a bit different today.

This story is supposed to be getting surprising hots to your roommate and I can work with the casual 'bruh' homophobia with your straight curious stuff and the annoying-girlfriend-obstacles, because these are young guys and unfortunately it all rings true. But there's an honest to god rapist in this book and while she's definitely represented as the bad guy, the story is still missing the needed severeness.

Still, I really liked Indie and there was promise. And I was pretty glued to the book. So I'm going with 3 stars and I would be interested in reading something more recent from these authors.

Heartwarming and an honest portrayal of the realization that the one you have feelings for is someone you never knew was there to love. Indie and Daniel start out as college roommates but become so much more when the power goes out and staying warm is a priority. But Daniel has has numerous girls and Indie is a relationship and sexual virgin? Can the two break out of boundaries and find love? I loved the innocence and inner strength of both of these characters. This is a relationship I would like to read about in another book further out into their relationship. A great read.

For a simple little free read this was ok. It's a gay for you story with very little in the way of angst. Both guys have never really experimented or thought about being attracted to another guy, but everything goes pretty smoothly for them as they figure it out. There's one little bump in the road, but mostly no real drama or issues. For a novella it was sweet, but there wasn't a lot to grab onto with either character. I liked them, but wasn't left with that strong a reaction to either boy.

A very sweet novella of first time love Winter Chill introduces us to Indie and Daniel, two college boys rooming together and finding love.

Indie is 19 years old and he’s still a virgin. While he wants to get into a relationship he feels uncertain of himself. He just can’t bring up the confidence to talk to girl, the same confidence his roommate Daniel exudes. Yes, Indie admires Daniel a lot. He’s his best friend and the one he looks up to.

When a storm delays his departure and traps him on camp Daniel offers to stick around for the three days required to keep him company, before he has to head home himself. Their chilly room is ideal though and a power outage forces Indie to ask for body heat and crawl into Daniel’s bed. But strange things happen and confusion hits Indie square in the head. He never thought he might be gay but there is no doubt that he’s attracted to Daniel.

An invitation to his parent’s house from Daniel makes things even more complicated between the two friends. Between Daniel’s crazy stepmother and their own evolving feelings their easy-going relationship faces the danger of falling apart.

I liked this story a lot. Indie’s confusion and approach was very sweet and at times bordered to heartbreaking without it becoming too dramatic. And God, Daniel’s family situation was scary and a constant emotional wreck. I can’t even imagine what it would be like in real life but the author’s approach was pretty realistic and had me feel very sorry about him. It is safe to say that there was definite connection with the characters throughout all their “adventures”.

I might not have liked the “I love you” part that much due to the speed it happened but their intimate moments were extremely sweet and charming. In the end it was a first time love story and keeping in mind the obsession that overcomes us when we’re faced with our first love, this was a well written approach and I loved it.

I would recommend it to all the fans of the genre for it was a great read.

I listened to the audiobook version of this novella. The narration was well-done. Like most gay-for-you stories I have read, it's more of an entering-a-gay-relationship-for-you story.

One of the guys, Andrew/'Indie', has never considered the possibility that he might be gay, because it was expected of him to be straight. However, he never really had any interest in girls, either and focused on school and sports. My personal experience in admitting to myself to being gay was similar, as I chose not to think about it, not to deal with it yet, because I know it would change things. I focused on school and other things until I was ready, so I can certainly relate to the character.

The second main character, Daniel, has a girl friend at the beginning of the book and realizes that he must be bisexual, when his close friendship with his best friend turns into something more. He never cheats on his GF, but I must admit I did not like the way the two MCs talked about the soon ex-girlfriend, even if she was not very likable. I felt like she was just used when convenient and then thrown away, when she became to clingy. While I did not like her, a different way to deal with that situation would have made the MCs more likable to me.

And they were very likable otherwise, had a great chemistry and hot sex.

I enjoyed that we got to meet the families of both MCs, even though the story was short. I did feel like some of the characters did not have the depth I hoped for, however, which probably has to do with the length of the story.

There is a very serious issue between Daniel and his stepmother that was very shocking and heartbreaking, but the step mother's behavior is so bad that it almost seemed unreal. I would have liked for her to be more three-dimensonal or for something to explain the way she acted and for the consequences of her horrible actions to be explored more thoroughly.

In any case, I did enjoy the book, loved the sweet romance, the hot sex and had my heart break at what had been done to Daniel.

There’s nothing quite like snuggling under the covers with another warm body on a cold winter’s night! And that’s what sets the wheels in motion (after a power outage) for this friends-to-lovers, first time, gay discovery and coming out novella. It’s sweet and cute, filled with the appropriate angst for the situation, but also has some surprisingly cringe worthy scenes/discussion surrounding Daniel’s low life of a stepmother (just, ewww). After getting through their respective family angst, the future looks bright for these two guys as they head back to school from winter break. A nice read!

Nice short story about two jock roommates over a college holiday and their visits with their parents. A winter storm brings them together and then add in one wicked step-mom who causes problems.

Overall a nice story. I did find a couple minor typos like in one area the word fist where the context really needed the word first. But not so many mistakes to be distracting from the story.

Ok for starters I had some issues with the begining of this story. I get the whole "gay4U" premise. But let's face it any guy who allows another guy to climb into bed with him while he is JOing to any kind of porn has got to be either gay or at the very least bisexual. I mean even with the whole "freezing to death" scenario he would of at least asked Andrew to wait till after he came or stopped JOing before Andrew climbed into bed with him. Now that I've said that, once past that point I loved this book. Their whole relationship totally worked from the start, mainly due to the fact that they were best friend already. I thought the whole "Stepmother" storyline was creepy as heck. Personally rather than promoting this as "Gay4U" I think it should have been touted as a "Best Friends 2 Lovers" story. That said the writing for this was awesome, I loved both of the main characters as well. Interestingly, I found their respective families reactions quite believable since it is much more likely to happen that way today than back when I told mine. I really felt like Andrew and Daniel's relationship by the end was exactly what it should have been and totally believeable. Over all I really like this story and definitley will be reading more of these authors works.

I loved this book.
I loved Indie and Daniel.
Indie is learning who he is and what he wants. Daniel has a clingy girlfriend he can’t seem to get rid of but he has feelings for someone else.

The attraction is both sided but neither of them know it. They are forced into each other’s space and things start to heat up.

I loved Indie’s family, everyone’s family should be like his. Daniel’s home life isn’t so good at all. That step mother needs to go. I am glad the father finally saw the light I am glad he didn’t blame his son.
Daniel seeking out Indie really was sweet and I loved the narration for this one.
