While I was introduced to Krash as a brown-skinned teenager, the word nigga appeared almost 80 times in a 230 pages novel!!! Wasn’t it crystal clear either from the start or after a couple of times it was mentioned??
This gave me all the feels the 1st 2 hours and then Mya broke my heart with what happened. But then she brought things back full circle and Krash made sure he didn’t come up off Bern and I loved it. Beautiful story of 2 people coming together, leaving to be who they were meant to be and then coming back together and building a better love. Enjoying this from start to finish.
This was a real second chance romance that definitely had me all in. From the moment Krash and Bern met they were inseparable. He was her protector and she was his peace. For years their friendship blossomed into more, only for them to be pulled apart. 8 years and much success, they find each other again when he hires her security company and she shows up at his door. From there, it is all gas no brakes on their parts because Krash reminded Bern about their agreement... If life brought them back together, nothing was going to tear them apart again, and didn't! Happy Reading Y'all!💋
This second love story was medium paced & minimum drama. I loved it! Honestly they both had a selfish spirit. He wanted her to stay so he can have a thriving career and she was tunnel visioned on her goals which was understandable. Krash was true to his word & got his woman & she kept her word by making herself open to accept his love! I love the growth that was shown!
Krash and Bern is a second chance romance that really has you rooting for Krash to get his woman. Krash and Bern are best friends who fall in love but fall apart when one can’t deal with the other one moving away to accept a once in a lifetime opportunity. When a burglary brings them back to each other, Krash doesn’t waste another moment getting his love back!! Mya writes the type of book baes that may have you looking at your man sideways!
Author Mya will always give you the sweet to make you fall in love. I normally don’t love seeing high school portions of a love story, but it was beautifully written and so necessary to how and why Krash and Bern ended up needing a second chance at love. Bravo!
I loved the story of Krash and Bern!! They were meant to be but had to experience life without each other. I wanted to shake Krash but understood he was dealing with past trauma, and I was proud of Bern for standing on business when it came to her goals. This book laid a foundation without unnecessary information, and it flowed all the way to the end.
This was a really cute second chance book from Mya. Books who have that added childhood love just always hits and Bernice and Keyshawn story was no different. Definite recommend
Krash & Bern is a young friendship that blossomed into true adult love. I enjoyed this story. Keyshawn aka Krash needed to know what genuine love was and Bernice aka Bern needed security in a new place. They balanced each other out and although they did not want to separate for real but they needed that time to grow. Sports Romance He Falls First Friends to lovers
The concept was cool but I'm not sure I was into it, I found myself skipping pages to get to the end and that's not how I read so I'm going to give it three stars.
Krash & Bern were a joy to read from beginning to end. I loved watching their bond blossom from a sweet friendship into a loving relationship. & although they had a not-so-brief intermission, I was ecstatic when they ultimately found their way back to each other.
*slight spoilers below *
I loved how Keyshawn assigned himself the role of Bernie’s protector from day one. He never played about his Bern! Lol He was confident & caring even as a teen. Which made me love him more, because he had every reason to be the opposite. & Miss Bernice! We love a Brilliant Baddie! Lol Her style was everything. I loved her drive & perseverance to achieve her goals. No matter how difficult it was, she always chose herself. I am just so proud of her. So proud of both of them for overcoming.
& the boxing scenes flowed so well in my head. I’m terrified of watching matches in real life, but Krash made me want to give the sport another chance. I feel like a real fan now.
Shout out to Mr. & Mrs. James. They were excellent people. Patient, Kind, Understanding, & Mindful. They steered Bernie & Krash through the the worst things imaginable, with such grace. They are the parents every child (& grown up) deserves. I absolutely adored them.
Rodney.. I have nothing nice to say, so yeah.
Now, Miss Mya.. You wrote the phuck outta this book, ma’am! That “Hello, Niecy.” made me scream & toss my kindle like a hot potato. When I tell you I was gagged! My heart fell through my a$$! Lol. I had to take a lap around my apartment to get my blood pressure back down. The entire book, you navigated the heavy topic of abuse exceptionally. It felt real without being traumatizing. & it didn’t take away from the joy & overall entertainment of the story.
This was an amazing read. This book gave you all the feels, but the two that stood out most were love and healing.
Krash & Bern built an amazing friendship after she waltzed into his Sophomore English class looking like a dear caught in headlights. He felt an instant connection that had him keeping her close and away from the trolls and bullies. These two were inseparable. Krash was dealt a bad hand at home and truly went through it. He suffered mental and physical abuse 💔. Bern’s parents took him in and loved him as if he was their own son. These two go off to college and after Bern is excepted into a high ranking Tech School in another state they end their relationship.
Fast forward eight years and a chance encounter has them back in each other’s orbit. It was as if time never passed cause these two connection was so strong. Of course they both had their reservations of what if’s, but Krash was very intentional when it came to ensuring his future included him and Bern. Although very successful, Bern went through it when they were apart and her past came back to find her. Rodney deserved that azz whooping Krash gave him and then some for the ish he put Bern through🤬.
These two had an amazing support system between her parents, Jaelyn, Coach Larry, Gary, Blake, Deionte, and Nehemiah🥰
I really enjoyed this story from beginning to end. I’m glad the author gave the trigger warnings and the chapters to expect them in because it made it easier to prepare for those scenes. Krash and Bern were so cute together. I loved their genuine and organic friendship. I hated that they crashed and burned but I think it benefitted them both having that time apart to grow up even more so that once their paths crossed again, they could fully embrace their relationship as adults. I also hated that they both endured such trauma but loved that they didn’t allow their trauma to define them and they still thrived in spite of.
Once their paths crossed, Krash was all gas and no breaks when it came to getting his happily ever after with his Bern. He was very intentional with her from the beginning and I loved that for them. I also loved how he gave Bern the reassurance she needed that she was his focus and the only woman he wanted to be with. I also loved that they both were able to acknowledge what they could have done differently before their initial breakup and that they both were determined to make it work once they reconnected.
This is a definite must read if you love a good friends to lovers and second chance romance story.
This was such a heartfelt and dramatic second-chance romance that pulled me in from the very beginning. Krash & Bern had everything I love in a love story—intense emotions, strong chemistry, and that “meant to be” energy.
From the start, Krash and Bern were inseparable. He was her protector, and she was his peace. What began as a deep friendship during their high school years slowly turned into something more, only for life to separate them. Eight years later, success on both sides, fate brings them back together when Krash hires her security company—and Bern is the one who shows up at his door.
From that moment forward, it was all gas, no brakes. Krash made it clear: they made a promise that if life ever brought them back together, nothing would come between them again. And nothing did.
This book hit all my favorite romance tropes: • Sports romance • Friends to lovers • Second chance • Soulmates through and through
The emotional growth, the chemistry, the vulnerability—it all worked beautifully. The love scenes were intimate and meaningful, never just thrown in. Mya did a phenomenal job crafting a story about love, timing, and destiny.
Krash and Bern were cute from the onset of the book. They met in high school and became friends when he took her under his wing. I loved Krash's protective spirit. As he said, it was like his soul knew that she was the one. They separated after becoming more than friends but fate brings them back together 8 years later. I hate that Bern went through some things with her ex that made her leery of giving Krash a second chance. I was glad that the love and passion she received from Krash helped her overcome her reservations. Krash taking care of Bernice's ex, Rodney, was a highlight in the book for me. He should have kept himself in his own state. This book contains tropes that I love to read - sports romance, friends to lovers and second chance, and the author did justice to them all. The love scenes were full of love and so 🔥🔥🔥. Mya did a great job as always!!!
I enjoyed Krash and Bern’s journey to a HEA. A connection was established immediately and morphed into love. While their initial separation was sad, I understood both sides of what occurred. I wish they would’ve really sat down and communicated, but it was for the best. They both got to experience life and success apart, which made them appreciate being reunited more. I would’ve liked a front row seat to their time apart though. I feel like it was mentioned, but I didn’t connect with it as much because the flashbacks were only about Bern—though those were intense. However, in the end I found myself smiling as Krash got his lady back and they reestablished what was meant to be all along.
Krash & Bern, in my eyes, was a complete definition of soulmates. The story of two high school students from very different backgrounds who become the best of friends then lovers. But then life throws them a curveball that changes the trajectory of their futures. Then fate throws them a second chance to get it right.
Every time I read a book by this author, I know I'm about to be taken on a journey that has highs and lows but will ultimately end with an amazing happily ever after. And make no mistake, she did exactly that. Straight up, no chaser. Mya has done it again.
This author writes far beyond her 24 years of life, which is a compliment indeed. I am well over my 20's but I always enjoy her books. Krash showed us what an amazing young man he was from the beginning. And though dealt a difficult hand at life, he first protected then ultimately loved Bern with his whole self. It was beautiful to see them in the beginning and even better to see them after. Bern ultimate made a decision to choose her and it was refreshing and inspiring to read about. This book came with some triggers but the author detailed them very thoughtfully in the beginning of the book, and while the situations were detailed on the pages they were not graphic. Both Krash and Bern were survivors and this love story came completely full circle. I really enjoyed it!
This is a second chance romance. Krash and Bern were high-school sweethearts that broke up once Bern decided to move away to pursue career opportunities in Massachusetts. they were so in love, I thought they would at least try the exist long distance. instead, ended up not talking for 8 years. during that time, they both become incredibly successful. when Bern moves back home, they reconnect and the feeling are still there. the question is, can they merge their lives together or has too much time passed?
Krash and Bern!!! HR wss such a great friend and protector in the beginning, it was really cute. His dad was a ...... That needed help and wasn't man enough to get it. I was, furious with him when they broke up because he made, her choose knowing how much it meant to her. I was,mad at burn because she was being selfish as,well.. But I'm glad they found their way back to each other
Krash had a rough life growing up his mom left and his dad was a drunk and abusive...... Bern was the new kid at school skipping two grades and Krash became her bodyguard and friend., he couldn't take the abuse anymore and fought him back and dad took his own life. Now who do he have, Bern's family and his Coach was all he had. They became a couple but life happened and went their separate ways but in the end they found ways back to each other.
This book is now added to my top five list of best friends to lovers as well as second chances. This author did an amazing job of writing a story of two young people who met in high school, they became best friends and each other sanctuaries. Life took them away from each other but brought them back together many years later. Such a wonderful story and we get to see the pain, the joys and the love clearly as if it was a video and not a book. Well done!
This was sooo corny & a cringefest...one that I actually kind of liked, for some reason💀. the part that made me cringe the most was when Krash & Bernie were addressing the hate on camera (we still don't know what happened to that video) that had me wanting to rip my hair off. "I love you more than there are stars in the galaxy" whatever that means. Krash tried so hard to be poetic but it just came off corny & I- 😭. That Lola girl was on some 🐂💩.
This was a cute second chance romance. The drama was minimal. I love how Krash took Bern under his wing in the beginning. They couldn’t be more different from one another. With second chance romances I’m always curious to see what went wrong the first time around. For these 2 they never really needed to break up 😂
This beautiful story was well worth reading. Didn’t put it down. Could hardly wait for karma to show up and “ DID” it. Krash was such a gentleman even though he was living in hell. Bern was a determined, intelligent young lady. Interesting how they met and reacquainted. With the dark times they endured it was interesting to get to a solution.
It amazes me that Bern had loving parents that she did not reach out for assistance. That broke my heart to see the trajectory her life took, and she did this in silence.
Krash had insecurities that foiled their plans, but a second chance at love came with some unsuspecting drama.
They both grew up, but their love and connection remained.
Krash only made one mistake and that was when he gave Bernice an ultimatum. He promised to get her back if her had the chance. This book had a wonderful back story and I loved them from the beginning. There was minimal drama in this book and that was refreshing. Just two people growing up and finding themselves.
