My birthright was stolen by my own father and bestowed upon my worthless brother. Fate’s middle finger is all I witness as the Salt crown fell on his head.
Alas, our penniless nation desperately needs coin. Delivering another king’s head seemed worth the payment until she took up the war against me.
Queen Avina. Sole heir to the Ridge Province and married to the despicable king whose head paid for my people to eat. Her mind is a sight to behold even if the wench did condemn me to the Treland Arena.
Within this wretched Abyss, I have been stripped of my title. My home. Even my gods damn name. I will take my vengeance. Avina will fall to her knees and succumb to my wrath.
My little Queen. My deepest obsession.
His Little Queen
Loneliness has been the sole comfort of my life. The greatest joy I have known is Prince Sigvid removing my abusive husband’s head from his shoulders.
I took up the fight against Sigvid’s brutal form of warfare and won! The twisted reality is that he is the only person who has desired me for all I am. And I cannot get enough of him.
My sick fascination with him has led me to the Treland Arena. I cannot bring myself to admit the passion he has wrought in my soul.
D. & C. Night are a married couple who prefer their heroes to be violent and their worlds to be medieval. When they aren't plotting their next story, you can usually find them in the woods listening to Viking chants.
They live with their menagerie of rescue animals, including a disabled cat, Freyja.
I received an ARC of this book and it was easily my favorite read of the month! This book has it all: Vikings. War. Smut. Enemies to lovers. Touch her and die. Definitely check TWs, it is dark romance, it is detailed. It is DELICIOUS! D & C Night just made a fan out me!! I will be anxiously awaiting more reads for this duo!
‼️‼️❌❌SUICI!E ideation is HEAVY in the first 60% of this book. DO NOT READ THIS BOOK IF YOU HAVE unresolved SUIC!dE trauma ‼️‼️❌❌
Not even fucking kidding. It’s bad.
Ok. Anyhoo. I feel like I should just say my relationship status with this book is COMPLICATED. 😆
Not sure I wanted to like this story.
But strangely, I do. 🤷🏻♀️ I’d give it 3.2-4.0 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ depends on the area of the book as well as some other issues I list below. If that makes sense? First few chapters are boring. After Avina the fmc is in the story it gets better.
Good stuff? Lots of twists and turns. Keeps the story interesting. Lots of world building. Interesting characters. Standalone which I prefer. Plot drew me in. Enemies to lovers. Viking type people. That shit.
It honestly could have ended without the two of these people getting together and I wouldn’t have cared. Romance was secondary in this book. Body betrayal was upfront and center. Mainly. It’s adventure. Mystery. Pain. Violence. Sadness. Loneliness. Political intrigue. God given special powers.
The bad? Now I didn’t remove stars for any of the stuff I disliked in this book. Keep that in mind. The star is for some plot holes, slow points and the way the chapters are labeled. Not gonna spoil EVERYTHING HERE. Just know. There are some plot holes. IMHO.
I just don’t like how consistently violent the MMC is with the fmc. At first I get it. He’s a beast. And he hates her. But as her story unfolds and he KNOWS her background.the continued back and forth and violence wasn’t something I enjoyed reading. I would have liked to have seen a softening in that aspect. But it just morphs into this bdsm violence anytime he got pissed at her, that just made their sexy times unpalatable to read. Once he stopped raging at her and they proclaimed love, I was like uhhhhhkay then. Magically they are tied together. Historically they are tied together. But I feel like the damage he did was not forgivable and she was WEAK to forgive him. He did a fuck ton.
To each their own. So again, I don’t remove stars for shit I don’t like. 🤷🏻♀️but violence and sex don’t mix for me.
Be aware the MMC grapes her. Several times. Body betrayal is HUGE in this book. And at times very gross. The axe handle in her poor vag is one time that sticks out. Or when he beat her black and blue with a belt. Or when he chased her when he was masked and she has no idea it’s him and is confused and again is gettin graped.
The fmc gets beat up a shit ton. Graped over and over. No wonder she sometimes wishes she could end it all. 🥹
She is supposed to be a great mind (and shown to be clever) but then to move the plot along they make her act like a dumbass. Hated that. Hated it. Didn’t match her character energy at all. Also, we are supposed to believe she is now all of a sudden a warrior thanks to her magic running around fields chopping men up but then we are also told over and over how fat she is. Fat shaming is so annoying in these sort of books. She didn’t look like the slender people around her. SNORT. Whatever. No way would she be the only fat chick around. The only one? Ever? Being soft or curvy ig is one thing but then to use it over and over again in the story made it tired for me. I already HATE any focus on body types in my books. Descriptions aside, it just can get easily overdone and then takes away from the story for me.
Violence. Graphic. Detailed bloody gore and violence. The entire book. Think Game of Thrones or Gladiator. You feel at times like you are reading a movie script, not a book. I’m ok w that but it read like things I have watched on TV. You might be able to pick that out too. One ex is Grim. A friend the MMC meets while in a gladiator arena. Grim is dark skinned. Wise. Becomes his close friend. Ring a bell? Juba in Gladiator?
Anyhoo. I skimmed all the violent parts. And there were a lot. The violent “sex scenes” I skimmed a bit too-I didn’t want to miss any story but at the same time I kept rolling my eyes. It was gross.
The time line jumping was confusing esp at first. It’s the way the chapters are labeled.
The reader has no idea what method of calendar or even the area the authors are referring to.
It would have been simpler to write present day, Salt Region. Ten years ago, Ridge Region. Present day, Treland Capitol. Four weeks ago. Etc.
But instead the writers overcomplicated the chapters being labeled. I DID remove 1/2 star for this. It took away from the story and was unnecessary.
So how is it that I gave a book w plenty of typos, editing issues, violence and grape on page the entire book a 4 star? Idk guys. It just, GAH. After all the bullshit, it was a good story.
So if you are ok w sexual violence disguised as bdsm bt fmc and MMC, on page gore and violence but with a true HEA for the fmc and MMC AND you LOVE Game of Thrones, Gladiator, type movies or shows….i think you could enjoy this too.
Go in knowing what lies ahead.

If you are looking for a Romance with Vikings, war, brutality, and spice, look no further.
This book centers around Queen Avina and Prince Sigvid, two polar opposite personalities navigating their lives.
Queen Avina struggles with her identity as Queen, feeling snuffed out and uncared for. She is always trying to do what's best for her people while being undermined by her father and the council.
Prince Sigvid is the true heir to the throne, but according to his father, the gods have bigger plans. He is at constant battle with his brother, the current king, on how he runs Salt. He is a brutal viking, running his own battalion, many with a blood oath dedicated to serving him.
When Avina and Sigvid cross paths, sparks fly. Unbeknownst to them, they are at war with each other. Lives being lost and eventually leading Sigvid to be sold to the Arena, a place where most go to die.
Upon his escape, he captures and enslaves Avina to him. As the time passes, they begin to discover they are meant for each other. Opposites indeed attract. With their loyal subjects at their sides, they begin to take what is theirs and uncover details about themselves that were unknown.
This book is a brutal, gory, slow burn, spicy romance novel that does NOT disappoint. Very much a HEA. I look forward to what comes next with these authors!! I'm so very honored to have been able to get a sneak peek in to this book ♥️

(This is an opinion on both books out currently, followed by my sharing rec of what to find in book 1.)
There were a few typos throughout both, and I also found that sometimes events/decisions didn’t quit "flow". Even the introduction to characters was also very abrupt when they are talked about as someone you should have already "known". Some scenes also seemed like they were missing information (even if just a paragraph). Both books endings also felt a little fast/lacking. The spice and tension though? 100/10, GOOD LAWD. Both Sigvid and Calder are top book husband material!! Can't wait for the next book!

I cannot say how much I truly enjoyed this book. Fantasy can often be hard for me to follow. The lore and world building can sometimes leave me behind. In Beast of Salt the information was delivered so effortlessly I absorbed it with no problem. Not once did I feel lost in the story. Beast of Salt is set in Viking Times. As a result, Avina (FMC), is often body shamed for her fuller figure, overlooked, abused and essentially used as a bargaining tool by men, even though she is currently Queen. Sigvid, aka the Beast, doesn't shy away from a fight, and Avina sure does give him one. The chemistry between them was spicy and the sex is not for the weak. It does err on the side of darker so definitely mind your TWs darlings. Sigvid loves to get pleasure from his "little Queen" and is not shy about it.
If you like your romantasy a little dirty, unrestrained and filled with gratuitous axe usage, Beast of Salt would be the one.
I received this as an ARC and I just finished reading “Beast of Salt” and it quickly became one of my top reads this month. Set in Viking times, the book delivers an intense, dark romance with powerful enemies-to-lovers dynamics and the ever-alluring "touch her and die" trope. The main characters, Avina and Sigvid, have sizzling chemistry that jumps off the page, though their relationship leans heavily into darker elements, so be sure to check the trigger warnings (TW) beforehand.
Avina, despite being a Queen, faces constant body shaming and mistreatment by the men around her. Sigvid, also known as the Beast, is a fierce and possessive warrior who doesn't back down from a challenge, and Avina certainly gives him one. Their relationship is complex, passionate, and intense, with some moments of dubious consent and plenty of violence. The world-building and lore are seamlessly woven into the story, making it easy to follow, and the action—complete with brutal axe play—keeps you hooked from start to finish. If you enjoy dark, steamy fantasy romance with an edge, “Beast of Salt” is a must-read!
When he kills your abusive ex, kidnaps you, and then he rescues your cat.
An exploration of the ‘enemies to lovers’ trope, Beast of Salt tells the story of two individuals on opposing sides of a multi-year war. Queen Avina and Prince Sigvid are sworn enemies. Battling with both armies and wits, the two clash relentlessly. But as the pair soon discover, their lives have been entangled far longer than their supposed first meeting when Sigvid is captured and taken as a prisoner of war. Throughout gladiatorial-style imprisonment and being taken far from one’s home as a slave, the relationship between Sigvid and Avina is punctuated by scenes of kinky sex and possessive behavior. BDSM is the name of the game, and authors D & C Night paint an enrapturing image, sparing not a single sexy detail. From chains to axes, this book had me simultaneously eager to uncover the next secret, frothing to read the next violent death, and blushing furiously. If you’re a fan of vikings and smut, then Beast of Salt is a must-read. The premise is unique, the sex is hot, and the violence is graphic.

This book took me a little while to get into, but I am glad I persevered. It has it all: Vikings, war, smut, enemies to lovers, and touch her and die.
I am generally not a fan of Fantasy books, as the lore and world-building can sometimes be very lengthy and time-consuming to understand, but this writer did it perfectly, and I was intrigued to see where the story was going.
Not once did I feel lost in the story. The Beast of Salt is set in Viking Times. As a result, Avina (FMC), is often body shamed for her fuller figure, overlooked, abused and essentially used as a bargaining tool by men, even though she is currently Queen. The Beast of Salt had its ups and downs for me. It took a while to get into, and the pacing felt off—some parts moved at lightning speed while others dragged, which made it take me longer than usual to finish. The world-building was a bit confusing at times, with lots of moving parts that weren't always clear.
That said, the plot was still pretty engaging. Sigvid was definitely a messed-up character, but I weirdly found myself liking him, even with all his violence. Avina, on the other hand, didn’t quite feel as queenly or compelling to me, though their twisted dynamic kept me interested. There’s a lot of graphic violence and sex, which had more of an intense, dangerous vibe than any softness or sweetness I was hoping for.
Overall, if you’re into dark, violent stories with Viking vibes, it’s worth a read, but I do think it could have used a bit more polishing and maybe even been split into two books for better flow.
This big was by far one of the best viking type books I've ever read.
I absolutely loved this book and everything about it, and I need more of Avina and Sigvid and their entire found family.
This book is dark and spicy and has many triggers, so please be aware before reading if you are sensitive to body shaming, emotional and physical abuse, and thoughts of suicide. There are others so read up on them. If you enjoy triggers then read this book haha.
Sigvid is totally unhinged and is absolutely my favorite book boyfriend ever.
Avina is strong in her own right considering what she has gone through in her young life, and I absolutely feel for her and so happy she found her home and family.
Wow. I truly enjoyed the back-and-forth banter between the two main characters. Queen Avina wasn’t what you normally picture as a lead FMC and I truly loved that about her the way she was more brain over beauty. I love that kind of character. She sure held her own against our beast of salt the warrior the Viking. I loved the Viking fantasy so much and it was definitely very spicy . But I’m big on plot and spice and this book had both I enjoyed that the spice wasn’t the main thing in the story but you got a good amount of spice. All in all I enjoyed it I gave it 4.5 ⭐️ and I can’t wait for the second book in this series . What’s next for Sigvid & Avina ? Who will be the new main characters? I can’t wait to find out who booked two will be about.

This book was astounding from start to finish. Vikings, War, Spice, the world building was pretty intriguing. I felt submerged from the very beginning.
I would definitely read this one again, and if you like your fantasy/romance to be dark, twisted, and very well detailed. I highly recommend you give this a read.
As always, please check trigger warnings before reading.

I was not ready for this book and how good it was. I wont lie. It started out slow for me. I was worried that I would not be able to get into it. I am so glad that I kept going! Sigvid and Avina kept me on my toes. I have become accustomed to predicting what will happen in books but I was so surprised by all the twists. I was not ready! It was so well written too! I can not wait to see where this series will go!
✨ARC review✨ I’ve never read a Viking themed book so I wasn’t sure what to expect going in to this but honestly I loved it. Might have to seek out more Viking books.😅 the world was interesting. I really enjoyed the magic system. The spice was spicy.🌶️ it’s definitely a dark romance so read TW before starting but so worth the read. Can’t wait for the next book.❤️
My first Viking Romantasy read, and I loved it! It took me a few chapters to get acclimated, but by chapter 7, I was all in!! I loved the banter back and forth between the fmc and the mmc. The story was intriguing, great side characters, the magic, the fighting, the plot... and the spice!! So good!!
Amazing book this was!! I was hooked from the start!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars of course and the spice omg I absolutely loved it! It made me want to read it again and I wish I didn't read it so quickly but I had too! Everyone should absolutely read this amazing book!
Beasts of Salt is a delicious viking story that has everything you could want. It's spicy, it's twisted, it's a great read! Check those warnings though !
Spicy viking inspired story. I was on the edge of my seat until somewhere in the middle. When it became more politics and less banter.. but still overall very enjoyable.
This is a DARK romance. It does have triggers so read the warnings carefully before you read this book. It is full of action, nail biting, and makes you want to scream and throw things, war, enemies to lovers and a lot of smut.
