Where darkness dwells, mortals best not tread. For you will enter the Land of the Dead.
Briar Goode belongs to the Keepers of the Eternal Below, and in the heart of Sebago Lake, her coven watches over the crossing to the Underworld from Frye Island. But when zombies mysteriously show up on her shores, the introverted, socially awkward witch winds up waist-deep in a necromantic conspiracy that threatens the balance between life and death.
Halloween is in full-swing the entire month of October on Frye Island, drawing way too many unsuspecting mortals to the town while the population of undead rises as well. As if that we're enough, Briar is forced to start breaking the Arcana Guild Covent left and right when she's forced to team up with a monstrous reaper and a lust demon.
Who just so happen to be her mates.
Zombies, death magic, and unholy bonds abound in Frye Island culminating on All Hallows Eve. And to defeat them, Briar's going to have to embrace a darker path that will claim her soul forever.
Lover of dark, decadent, and deadly romances, RE Johnson has been a passionate storyteller and fantasy fan since they were in elementary school. In fact, they wrote their first novel in fifth grade.
Now, they use their Creative Writing degree to create stories that profess love, respect, and triumph over evil and contain strong female characters who are always ready to throw down – both in and out of the bedroom.
Currently, they reside in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they spend their free time playing Dungeons and Dragons, wrangling their two rambunctious children, and reading all the smut, fantasy, sci-fi, and mythology they can get their hands on.
I loved the autumn vibes this book was throwing. A witch, a sex demon, and a reaper all coming together to fight the big bad. Now I don't want to give too much away ... but someone bangs in spectacular fashion and ends up wrecking a church . I really was able to be transported into the story, and the pacing was good. It was really easy to connect with the characters and their back stories, and briar is a lucky woman 😉 Having a mixture of powers and beings is my favourite kind of story. Add in some fated mates, and you have me hooked.
I will say this, and I'm probably going to get hate for it. Using their really pulled me from the story, trying to think it was their or their. It may not affect others, but it drew ME from the story(my experience). I appreciate pronouns and representing everyone in books. (I've only come across a few that represent people with disabilities and it can at times be frustrating that you can't find a book that represents everyone). But would it be so wrong if 'them/they/he/she' could it be in a slightly different font or italic/bold in books. It would be much easier for my brain to process quickly. The English language is hard enough for neurospicy dyslexic brain having to think about their, there, they're. -no hate intended, just trying to make life a little easier.
As always, READ THE triggers, and if it's not for you, put the book down and move on. There are plenty of books out there for you. There's no need to hate on the author or the people who use trigger warnings as a shopping list.
Necromancy by RE Johnson is part of the Spells and Sins Series. I always quite enjoy books by this author so when I saw that it was dark, witchy and a romance I knew I was in for a good time/read. Wow what an interesting treat this book was, my kindle should have been smoking by the end. I devoured this book; the characters hands down is what made me enjoy this as much as I did. You put together a witch, a reaper and a “certain” type of demon… you’ve got yourself a top grade story in my opinion. Oh and let’s add in a zombie element. But I was a fan of Briar because I could relate to her being awkward; she felt so real to me. But I really enjoyed this book, I was at the end before I knew it. I flew through the chapters because I just kept wanting to know more. This was written so well that I almost instantly fell for the trio not to mention the interesting storyline. I do want to mention that this is a why choose romance that deals with gated mates. (Yay) I thought the epilogue was cute and adorable. It made me smile. But then there were those three words in parentheses. Now I’m eager for even more! This is a park what will be a part of a shared world so I’ll be keeping my eyes out for more from the different authors. What I can say for sure is I definitely recommend this book.
Briar is a witch and part of a coven who guards a gate from the underworld. But something is off, it feels wrong and now there are zombies crawling out of the lake.
Shaedir, (Shaed), is a reaper. He is brought to the human world when he feels something out of place. Then he sees Her, the witch, she is trying to push back zombies. ZOMBIES? He has to get this under control.
Sazzonoch, (Saz) is a lust demon and a dammm good one at that! He can and will do anything you ask, you’re going to get some bratty attitude though. He loves to push Bone Daddy’s buttons, but he loves Briar burgeoning Domme side even more.
Saz is the first one to recognize and accept that Briar and Shaed are his mates. And who wouldn’t want a witch and Reaper as mates. All three were never fully complete until they met.
Not only did they bond romantically and physically, they also saved the world. No biggie.
I hope we get more of these three, they are wonderful together.
In all seriousness, I am in LOVE with this book. 10/10 here for the plot. This book had twists and turns that you wouldn’t have expected. Now, the spice, oooh mama.. yeah that was a surprise. But maaaan 10/10 you don’t want to miss this one. Necromancy is a phenomenal Halloween read, or any time read if you’re like me and love all things dark and spooky! RE did a phenomenal job with this one and I hope I get to see more!!
I NEED A PAPERBACK, ASAP. Let's face it. I knew I would absolutely love this book going in just because I've already read something by RE Johnson and loved the writing style! True to that gut feeling, I was sucked in deep on the very first page. I adore these characters SO MUCH that I'm extremely sad that I'm done!!! You know right off the bat that shit is getting ready to hit the fan. As a witch from the island's coven (who strive to keep a local gate closed and the balance protected), Briar is fully aware of the dangers that can happen. That doesn't mean she was prepared for someone to tip that balance with some greedy, endless desires. That disruption in balance brings several unlikely characters to the island. When they all clash, sparks fly. Alliances that were never meant to be become possible -- and so much more. We've got steam, mystery, and plenty of character humor that you're sure to enjoy this Halloween themed book. I know I'VE got some favorites, not to mention some scenes that are going to live rent free in my head. There were also moments where I was literally reacting out loud, in shock/panic/rage/delight. I really can't wait to grab a paperback of this book because it's definitely going to be one that I reread often, especially for the spooky season!! If you want something with paranormal and two delicious men for a witch, I BEYOND recommend this book for you!! Fantastic job RE Johnson!!!!
A witch, a Reaper a s*x demon, zombies, death magic, s*x demons, fated mates, unholy bonds and action form this book in a gripping fantasy adventure. That keeps you flipping the pages, wanting to know more.
Briar along side Shaedir( the reaper) and Sez(s*x demon) fight together against the undead.
“That will be a no, doll. Like I said, I’m a sex demon, so unless you want me to fuck them to death”
The FMC has a moral dilemma because she does not want to k*ll the bad guy who is actively trying to murd*r everyone else. That does not work for me.... Just nope I don't get it and this book is terrible even though the spice is fun.
