Gharb-e-Arezou is a beautiful collection of intertwined stories, portraying the immigrant experience, the struggle to find a place to call home, and the perpetual heartache that comes with choosing between staying and going back. I especially appreciated the non-linear structure of the narrative; the stories unfold like scattered puzzle pieces, each contributing meaningfully to the whole and inviting the reader to delight in assembling them.
This book is full of familiar stories for me, from college days and coming to the U.S., to academic life and raising a family. It goes deep into challenging moments and portrays the parallel lives we experience between two countries, through all the ups and downs.
Listening to these stories in Fatima’s voice felt like meeting my younger self after a long time. I can’t wait for your next book!

I started listening to this and just couldn’t stop. It kept me company for a few hours. I laughed, cried, and felt the pain and beauty of being far from home.
Some stories were funny, others were sad, all full of emotion. Also, the author’s voice felt extremely warm and engaging . it honestly touched my heart.
