Barbi and the Villain

Rate this book
She’s an awkward bookworm. He’s a fictional character in her favorite book.

When Barbara “Barbi” Bancroft mysteriously receives an unreleased manuscript from her favorite book series, she can’t curb her excitement. But when she gets sucked into the story—literally—she finds herself in the fantastical realm of Akkaya. Immediately, she thinks this is the adventure of a lifetime and she will finally meet her Prince Charming, and maybe have her first kiss.

But things don’t go her way, and soon she is running for her life.

Her only hope to survive and get home is the heroic Sir Damien, her fictional crush.

Unfortunately, he is anything but heroic and he decides to sacrifice her for an evil ritual that will allow him to invade her world—and conquer it.

Channeling her main character energy, Barbi tries to run away and outsmart Sir Damien. And that is how she ends up thrown in a dungeon, waiting for her death.

With the villain of the story.

Forming an unlikely alliance with the most hated character wasn’t in Barbi’s bingo card, but she will do anything to save herself and her world.

Things become further complicated when she accidentally gets mated to said villain, and now she’s trapped forever.

Or is she?

Barbi and The Villain is the first book in an epic fantasy romance trilogy featuring a bubbly and innocent heroine and a villainous love interest you’ll hate to love.

"Why are the best men fictional?"

Was this book perfect? No.
Did I enjoy it? Absolutely.
The rating is purely based on my enjoyment levels but the review will point out both flaws and strengths.

I loved the immersive writing. The way I was able to picture everything so perfectly, was mesmerizing. I love when books are able to do that. The world building is definitely not it's strongest point, but it's good enough for a book where romance is the primary focus. I found myself wishing for a book series for Akkaya.

Please note, the writing is sort of fluffy in this book and doesn't get dark until later. I point that out as it is marketed as a dark fantasy romance. So it may not work for everyone. Also, there is a lot of dog poop talk, so please keep that in mind. Don't say I didn't warn you 👀

🩷Barbi was too relatable. She is in love with fictional characters, shy, loves her pets, rambles when uncomfortable, is waiting for her perfect man and is basically in delulu world. I loved her BUT tbh she can be annoying at times. She talks, a bit too much and doesn't listen and that is something that can be irritating for a lot of people.

🖤Nykander is complex. I love him. I hate him. I love him. I hate him. I LOVE HIM. I HATE HIM. I LOVE HIM. I HATE HIM. Idk it's hard to explain without spoilers. I love him... I hate him... I love him...

I absolutely lived for the romance. I had such a hard time putting this book down cause of such beautiful, angsty, slow burning and swoon worthy chemistry. I found myself fully lost in the way this book and romance was written. It was like experiencing it all with the two characters. The way some of the popular tropes were used was brilliant. I fully gave myself to this romance.

The ending hurts and this is me putting it mildly. The signs were there. But did I listen to my rational self? No. At the end it felt like I was the one who got hurt. I felt the pain. And my heart shattered. Idk how I'll wait for the next book 😭😭 I need hugs y'all 😭 I wanna rage 😭😭

I need people to read this so that I have someone to talk to about this. I need therapy 🥲🥲

This was such a fun time.

I love Veronica’s style of writing, there’s always a humorous feel so it’s never too depressing but also addresses the darker aspects with a lot of care.

The fmc, barbi, was so unserious I couldn’t help but laugh every time she said smth. She’s cute as a button in my head. Take her character with a grain of salt bc this is only the first in a series. It’s very obvious she’s going to have a lot of developmental work done for her character. But even still I adored her naivety bc she was so relatable for wanting that book type romance lmao she’s such a diva when it comes to her dogs I love her 😭

The mmc, Nykander, had the audacity to be the most confusing villain ever. I loved him one second then despised him then when I adored him again he did smth to make me want to peel his skin into ribbons. His good moments were really fucking precious tho *dreamy sigh*

Miss Lancet never fails to make me question the mmc. But I mean, what’s the point of reading dark romantasy if u ain’t gna get emotional whiplash amirite 🌚

*

Thank you to Veronica lancet for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

This plot was so much fun and the characters were hilarious and loveable, not to mention the banter between these two was chef's kiss, and that ending🤯🤯

Pre-Read review: First my bestie Bella rated this 5✨'s and I promised her I would read this to share her trauma🫣Then my SK bby rated it 5✨'s and she said she had so much fun with it.
So how can I not read it?

Imagine falling in love with world building and the two main characters only to get your heart ripped out in the end. That happened to me I’m left with so many questions, I’m wondering what was real.
The plot is so interesting and engaging. It’s incredibly fast paced and I just love everything about it

“Sleep now,” he whispers. “Sleep until I am the only thing you can think about…”

“Barbi.” He sighs, though a smile pulls at his lips. “You speak an average of two hundred and five words per minute when you are excited.” “Two hundred and five?” My lashes flutter. “That is a very exact number…” “Of course.” He nods. “I counted.” “You…counted?” He proudly nods again.

“You are so beautiful,” he murmurs in a low voice. I tip my chin down, suddenly shy. “This is the first time you’ve told me that.” “Really? My bad. I should tell it to you daily. You are absolutely stunning, Barbs.”

For all the girlies who wish they could travel to their favorite book world and fall in love with a fictional character. And for all the girlies who would choose the villain over the hero. Barbi’s favorite color might be pink, but I know yours is morally grey.

Barbi and the Villain will release on August 15th on Amazon and in Kindle Unlimited!

Short teaser:
“How old are we talking about?” I dare to ask.
“Time flows differently here, but in Tartareian age, I am thirteen thousand five hundred and nine years.”
I gawk at him.
Thirteen thousand…
“I am twenty-one,” I whisper.
“I did not ask for your age, human, nor do I care about it.”
“But don’t you see?” I burst out, grabbing onto the material of his shirt and dragging myself closer to him. “I am twenty-one and I am mated to a thirteen-thousand-year-old god/demon, whatever you are! I’m getting lightheaded,” I add dramatically.
“I do not see the need for histrionics, Barbi,” he mumbles drily. “It is what it is.”
“How could it be? Do you know there are hundreds of forums making fun of books where the heroine is a young and innocent human and the hero is a hundred-year-old supernatural baddie? In our case, you’re thirteen thousand years old—even worse. You’re basically robbing the cradle.” I shake my head at him.

y'all...i was really trying to get into this book. the plot is interesting but i genuinely can't. i hate the fmc, her dogs, the love interest, the world, everything.

don't get me wrong i love dogs but if she talks about how pompom is her child ONE MORE TIME 😭 but then pompom finds her true love🥳😤 bonbon i can't 😭 anytime there's nothing happened it's just talked about. on and on about how she needs to protect them. there's a point where our fmc gets locked up in a cage and she's not even worried about anything, she keeps crying and sobbing asking where her precious dog is and how the other dog might take pompom's virginity 🥰

so lets talk about the plot. so, the fmc barbi really likes this book series and this old lady offers her the next book in the series that people have been wondering what would happen in it for years. while reading it (with pompom) she gets teleported into the world where the books are set. the couple in those books turned out to be the WORST people and she doesn't even question it once after it happened. she's only worried about her precious dogs. the plot is actually interesting though and i wonder where she'll end up, but it's not worth reading the book anymore, i can't suffer any longer.

theres absolutely NO worldbuilding in the book. there's history, but i skimmed through it. all it is is them walking to a different place, but you have absolutely no idea where they're going or anything. like wow...we walked to a house..now a river.....and now were walking up a hill..🤯😨

our love interest, nykander, what do we know about him...? he's old......yeah thats all i know about him

i might finish suffering through this book later in the year since it's in the 25 books i want to read in 2025, but if it wasn't...this book is dead to me

nothing has been able to keep my attention
lately so I hope this does it!!

the ending was predictable AF #sorrynotsorry 😅🙈

maybe it would've been less obvious if I hadn't seen lots of reviews, where a "shocking ending" was hinted at. and realistically, this is the only way this book could've ended 🤣👉🏼👈🏼

the main heroine, Barbi, was too much: too immature, too "fluffy", too forcibly relatable to a point it turned too ridiculous 🤡 she had her admirable qualities, don't get me wrong. I liked her optimism and fast thinking skills, but overall, she wasn't my cup of tea of a heroine.

the main hero sorry, villain no, guy of the book was only slightly better. his actions at the end didn't shock me one bit. frankly, it would've been unbelievable, if he did a switcheroo in the middle of the book and forgot all his motivations that drove him for THOUSANDS OF YEARS! 🚨🤷🏼‍♀️

the world-building was severely lacking. it read as a fanfic written by a teenager about a favorite character/ship, transported into some fantastical world 🤭🤔 their constant walking or "questing" from one location to the other, without any understanding what's what and where it leads... the side characters that only served for a chapter or two, and then were forgotten completely later on. also, I may be completely wrong, but it felt like the author clearly saw the beginning and the end of this book, and everything in between was a forced mix of random scenes, thrown in together to get us from point A to point B 😕

now we're nearing the MOST ANNOYING POINT: THE MF DOGS 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 I love animals, but this book almost forced me into some literary animal cruelty 🆘😅🚨 first we had only PomPom and her POOP ADVENTURES (I kid you not 🙈🤣) then BonBon was added and I was forced to suffer double the cringe. But then... THE DOGS HAD A LOVE CHILD, YALL 😱😭😭😭😭😭 so now it's a whole dog family, used as a convenient device to fill up the pages every time there's nothing going on 🤬 also, the whole time it was shoved down my throat how much the heroine loves her dog, how it's her LITERAL CHILD, how the dog is a PERSON, how she's going to protect her etc. I GET IT! I REALLY DO, BUT STOP 🛑 SAYING 🛑 IT 🛑 EVERY 🛑F#CKING🛑 CHAPTER🛑 😭😭😭 🆘

also, the heroine was soo immature, that it felt almost criminal reading about her romantic/sexual encounters/thoughts. she gave almost Early Teenager Energy, and to read about her spicy scenes was disturbing... 🤔

Now, don't hate me, but...wouldn't it be great if at the end she'll end up with Nykander's brother, who's trying to kill him? 👉🏼👈🏼 BONUS POINTS: if she was supposed to be his mate all along, but Nykander somehow stole the "matehood"? 😅

After that ending, I'm considering getting euthanized, that shocked my to my core that I reacted so LOUD my baba asked me to calm the fuck down. Yes.

At first I was like, huh this guy is not a villian at all, but no, he is one y'all. I am tying myself up to not give you spoilers.

Now, is this a dark romance book? Yes, after the 96 percent mark. But it's SO worth the wait. This is what I want in a villian. He is just awful, but we love that.
I am SO excited for the second book, and honestly if it wasn't for the ending, this would be 2 stars, but THAT ENDING, THE PLOTWIST💀

Thank you Veronica Lancet💕 RELEASE THE SECOND BOOK NEOWWWWW.

I'm sorry to everyone who loved this book but this is the most stars I can give it. It's funny how I didn't like a single character in this book but something made me keep on going? I just needed to know what's going to happen next and I wanted to know about this hurtful ending, which I liked BTW 😈

A mentally 12 years old Elle Woods wannabe isekai-ed into the world of her favorite series, where she meets her idols, who gasp are not how she imagined them to be and she also met a mummy 😂 Honestly, Barbi was a bit too much for me but that's my personal opinion. When it comes to Nykander, I wasn't his biggest fan from the start. Something was fishy about him and then I started to become very suspicious of him after he "supposedly" couldn't rescue her.

I hope after this ending that things won't go the way someone hopes for and maybe we'll get a new villainess? That would be a lot of fun! 😁

So I just finished this book and all I have to say is wow. It was very cute and very funny. But after she got attacked by the men in the lighthouse his reaction to that triggered red flags in my brain. Because of how he acted but then the main character ignored it so I ignored it as well I'm coming down to the end when she was about to fully mate with him and he said "You're mine. Untouched. As it was meant to be." That gave me the ick and I thought I was imagining it. ONLY to have the betrayal slap me in the face and then the knife to stab me as well. I thought we were portraying him as a villain that hates everyone else but is willing to do anything for her but he's willing to do anything for some bitch who is not even his fated mate like WHAT THE FUCK. Bro had me crying cause I was betrayed too cause ain't no way, you just come and do us like that Nyk... Actually no, Bastard, you really came and are willing to sacrifice your fated mate made only for you, for your ex-wife who is dead...... I hope that Barbi is actually the reincarnation of Mo so it wouldn't work and when she comes out of the lake and he realizes how much he messed up that he grovels and grovels and grovels and that she does not forgive him at all. OR it does work and he finds out that Mo actually betrayed him for his brother or something, cause he cannot be happy not even for a second. Let the author bring in someone who deserves Barbi cause fate made a whole ass mistake.

Where do I even begin with this one? 😩 Normally, I’d be waving a solid 4.5-star flag, but after that ending, I'm teetering on the edge of a 1-star cliff. For now, it’s a wobbly 2.5 stars, but this rating will flip like a pancake depending on what happens in book 2! I’m also perfectly fine if Barbi decides to stay single forever—just as long as she doesn’t end up with Nyklander. The way things stand, she needs to find her inner warrior and show some real strength!

Here’s the kicker: it’s not just the cliffhanger that’s got me twisted up. Nyklander as the MMC? No way! I absolutely despise the dead lover trope, and discovering he’s been pining for 7,000 years? Come on, 7,000 years? That’s just way too over the top.

But wait, it gets worse. He’s planning to sacrifice Barbi to merge her with his deceased lover’s soul. 😡 That’s beyond unacceptable. Barbi deserves so much more than this dark and twisted fate. Even if Nyklander was to grovel on his knees or sacrifice the entire realm, I’m not sure that’s enough to fix this mess. Unless there’s a major plot twist—like a new MMC swooping in or a revelation that Nyklander had some secret plan all along—I might just be done with this series. It feels like a betrayal, and I’m seriously frustrated with where this story is heading.

What I need now is for Barbi to go full villain mode! 😈 She better come back stronger, darker, and ready to get her revenge on Nyklander. I want to see her make him regret every single one of his decisions.

But let’s not forget the good stuff! This book was an emotional rollercoaster with some seriously hilarious moments. Barbi’s bubbly personality and her adorable interactions with her dogs were pure gold. Her adjustment to this fantastical world was so relatable and fun.

As for Nyklander? Ugh, what a rollercoaster. One minute he’s sweet and protective, and the next he’s planning to kill Barbi for a dead lover? Like, make up your mind already! The twist left me reeling. I wanted to root for him, but that ending? It felt like a slap in the face. He better be on his knees, begging for Barbi’s forgiveness in the next book, and I mean begging. If she forgives him too easily, I’m out!

Overall, this book had so much potential and I was enjoying it until everything took a nosedive. I’m clinging to the hope that Veronica Lancet has some epic surprises for book two, but right now, I’m just drained. Barbi needs to come back with a vengeance and make Nyklander regret everything. If she doesn’t get the justice she deserves, I don’t know what I’m going to do.

I received an ARC for this book😘
OMG I don't have the words to describe this book. An entirely different set up and storyline. The chemistry and banter between the main characters were so on point and damn hilarious🤣 I got a solid gut feeling around 80% of the book when those men attacked Barbi and Nyk was nowhere to be seen that he is definitely hiding something. That's when I realised there was something fishy about him and I was 💯right.
I love and hate Nykander because as much as I admire his love for Mo whatever he did with Barbi by betraying her trust is unacceptable to me. The way he used to get jealous of other men around Barbi cannot be a lie. I hope he realises his mistake and grovels hard.
And Barbi what can I say about her, she was feisty, stubborn, kind and a protective mumma bear for PomPom, BonBon and Ander🥺 She loved and could do anything to protect them. She is mentally very strong, loyal and was so much in love with him. Her blabbering was so adorable😜 She was a complete sunshine and a bookworm who was obsessed with the fictional characters. I hope she comes back super strong and takes revenge on Nyk and doesn't forgive him anytime soon. I have a doubt that she is reincarnation of Mo (though I might be wrong)
I loved PomPom and her Little family🤩

“I am sorry, Barbs. I really am.” He smiles as he tucks a strand of hair behind my ear. “I do care about you, you know.” He leans to whisper in my ear. “But I can never love you. My heart will be forever with her.”

Esto es un recuerdo que la protagonista ve al final del libro, está en la cabeza del mmc:
“See, but it does. I am curious, Nykander v’Kyró. You would forsake your true mate, the only being made just for you in the entire universe, to fulfill a revenge for someone who is long gone?”
(…)

“I will not fall for her. There is only one female for me, and she is gone. Anything I do now is to honor her as I have vowed.”

Luego la avienta de un barranco para matarla y que regrese la otra JAHSJAJA ay no

“Goodbye, Barbi,” he murmurs softly as he lays a chaste kiss on my lips and wraps the necklace with his ring around my neck. “I will remember you fondly for your sacrifice.”
Sacrifice? What sacrifice? This is murder, plain and simple.
He is…killing me. After all we shared, after all we have been through. He is killing me.
None of it was real.”

Miren, aunque resulte después que la protagonista es la ex esposa muerta o algo así, tampoco lo querría leer porque eso significaría que hizo de todo físicamente con alguien más JAJAJAJA.

Am I infatuated with a fictional character?
Guilty.
But real men just aren't the same.
Maybe my standards are too high from years of daydreaming with my nose in a book instead of going out and experiencing the real world.

I loved the beginning but after a while it took a weird turn and I didn’t really like where it went.

I honestly don't know how anyone likes tropes like "dead ex that the mmc can't get over", like grow some balls dude it's been 700 hundred years or however long it was. GET THE FUCK OVER IT.
The ending was just out of nowhere, like when the fuck did the mmc just decided to kill the fmc? And for what? A girl that's dead and probably will not come back in the second book, fucking revolting. Never mind that Barbi was his fucking mate, he wants his dead ass wife like whaaat. I genuinely did not like the mmc at all. There was something fishy going on from the start and I just couldn't enjoy their "romance". Sure the book had funny and cute moments but then you get to the more "spicy" ones and theres just red flags fucking flyyying. Never mind that the switch up was CRAAAZY. How do you go from "Moo my wife my one and only" to "I love you the most, Moo is my past, I grew up, I'm different" to fucking "I was using you to have Moo back" Like bitch u did not grow up, balls haven't fucking dropped. If theres gonna be a second book I don't see how the fmc could still be with the mmc.
I don't necessarily hate this book but I honestly hope my girl Barbi ends up with someone better because she does NOOOT deserve that shit. I'm officially a hater of this villain, and I'm usually in love with them. And I know it's supposed to be "dark romance" but cmonnnn we can do dark romance and not basically ignore the almost rape of our mate, and then try to have sex with her, like damn. Kinda destroyed my want to read about villains for some time, I need to go back to the respectful and obsessive villains cuz this shit ain't it.
Anyway don't take my ranting too seriously cuz I will probably be reading book two, but the mf better be on his knees begging and crying for her to forgive him and the bitch better make him work for it, if she falls for his bullshit again I'm deffo dnf'ing lmaoo. I hope Barbi fucking destroys his ass in the second book, she better be saying shit that will hurt him and he better be fucking SIIICK an sorry for all he did to her for all his mf life, like brooooo I can't. Also this did not need to be 500 pages long, it's been hard not to just dnf it at some points. Barbi also was just fucking dumb, don't get me wrong I support girls rights and wrongs, but girlie was just in her own little world, fucking dancing with that stupid ass dog around the red flags, and talking about shit half of the time. I seriously hope the second book will be better cuz this has potential but it could be more than just "I want my dead ass wife back" and more actually villain vibes about power or some shit. I doesn't really make sense that a thing that old would be grieving for that long and when he finds "the one" litterly since she's his mate, he would still be thinking about the dead ass wife.

{ARC RTC TO COME}

edit *** A not so ARC review ***

Honestly, Maybe it was me but I shouldn't have read the ending first because it ruins the whole book for me. Nevertheless, reading the whole book and finishing it will make me so disappointed still so nothing would change. I was actually so excited to read it lol. But, I did not enjoyed reading it, not one bit knowing how the direction of the story went. so, I honestly ended up sorta skimming.

I would never ever enjoy a dead lover/mate/wife trope like ever. And ×× surprisingly ×× disappointingly, this has that lol. Or does it really have?

however, my theory was that FMC was the reincarnation of MMC's lover. anw, according to miss veronica, MMC lied a lot on this book. The second book would be on his POV and I think he is a virgin and has only ever been with the FMC because based on her reply on one of her post, asking if mmc was a v. she said along the line of "not on this book." and knowing her, I do think she loves writing v mmc as much as i love it lol. Anw, maybe I would enjoy it once I read the second book.

All in all, This did not worked for me but might work for you!

Fantastic plot idea but terrible execution! ❤️‍🔥

Barbie falls through parallel universes and lands in a world of her favorite book series. AND THAN FALLS FOR THE VILLAIN! Fantastic idea! I would it this up if it weren’t for the:

💔 insufferable fmc (I now know why her parents hated her)

💔 double 00 on spice meter! ITS ALL IN THE LAST CHAPTER! *the horror*

💔 irredeemable villain mmc

💔 massive plot holes (he will teleport to Earth for a piece of chocolate but then they also starve?)

💔 poor editing that exhausts the reader

The story reads as a parody and it feels like a never ending joke. It’s all hehe & haha but also there is 500 pages of just that. It’s giving fanfic that I accidentally found on a archived paranormal forum 📄

I cannot emphasize enough how much I hated the fmc. She was just annoying and insufferable from the way she infantalize her dogs to the way she approached relationships. I swear it felt like she was 13 and going through her first high school crush.

romantasy
bookworm fmc
fated mates
book universe
the blood play 👎
no HEA!

Thank you, Veronica, for this ARC!

Barbi - Barbara Bancroft - only has a few loves in life. Her dog, Pompom, the color pink and cosplaying her favorite character from her favorite book series. But one day, a strange woman hands her the new unreleased next book in the series and gets teleported into a new world. I absolutely ADORED Barbi, you are a girl after my own heart. They could never make me hate you. She was kind, strong, funny and DID not let a man walk over her. Her love for pink, her fears that everyone views her as delusional and a airhead. I felt it all. She was the epitome of morally good.
I am in no way a fantasy lover but I found myself sucked into the world of Akkaya with the magic, different realms and her sidekicks.

However, the dark one really is the complete opposite to her and surpasses morally dark in my eyes. He did not care for her feelings, or hurting them but his possession with Barbi was strong. I have not read a book in a hot minute that has left me reeling at the actions of a character, and how clueless they lead the reader to be until the last 30% my jaw was to the floor at the cliffhanger.

I could talk about this book all day.

I’m going to need my second book next week as the ending reminded me why, Ms. Lancet knows how to write a villain.

Thank you so much for this ARC read I can’t wait for the next book 🎀

I don’t even know what to call this? A dark fantasy rom-com?!
Whatever it identifies as, it is a 10/10! I freaking loved it.
Barbi is like a lot of us. A book obsessed girl who falls literally into one of her favorite fantasy series.. only this world she accidentally traveled into?! It’s not word for word of the series. In fact, the characters she loved are now the villains.

Barbi ends up arrested and thrown in a dungeon where she meets Nykander. A broody immortal… and her fated mate in this realm. Woah… every bookworm dream right?!

“I am mated. Quite accidentally, if not forcibly. To a god/demon.
You wanted adventure, Barbi. There's nothing more adventurou than being stuck with a god/demon for an eternity. Lucky fucking me.”

Age gap. 13,509 verses 21 years old. lol
Barbi finds herself conflicted on what is her real world? Surly she had a life on earth for 21 years but she’s clearly learning that she’s a main character in this world too.
What.is.Happening.

Somewhat ditzy, gullible, and talkative, and “weird”, we watch Barbi navigate her favorite book world and fall in love with a villain, Nykander. She’s only beginning to learn her role and who to trust….

This book is one of my absolute new favorites of the year. I’m literally completely obsessed. And it leaves off on one of the tallest and meanest cliffhangers you can possibly have in a book. Lol I’m literally still shaking and begging for more.!!

ARC REVIEW.

OH MY GOD, VERONICAAAAAA!!! WHAT WAS THATTTT ENDING???? 😨😨😨. Lmao, I never thought I could be fooled along with a female character in a book until I read this😂. Veronica, you do not do that to a personnnn!!!

Actual Review:
Barbara is not only living the dream of every sunshine bookworm but she’s very relatable—she’s funny, petty, witty, delulu, cuddle bunny with her dogs, and a lover of pink. She reminds me of Cher from “clueless”😄. Her monologues are so funny..I kept giggling to myself even when I wasn’t reading (on a break to do something). But one thing I love about her is that even though she is delusional, she still doesn’t let anyone walk all over her including the villain she is head over heels for. When he does something she doesn’t like, she speaks up and calls him out on it immediately. She kept me turning pages and laughing all the way. Matter of fact, I think this book could pass as a dark romance fantasy rom-com because of her— even the spicy scenes made me laugh so hard.

“Maybe I should’ve asked him to fuck me from the get go. I’m kind of digging this forceful action he has going on. It’s hot not going to lie. Even as I’m choking and sputtering and my eyes tear from the intensity of it, it’s hot”

See what I mean??🤣🤣

Now, Nykander??! I hate him, I love him..I don’t even know. I’ll leave you to find out for yourself. All I know is, he better grovel hard in the next book and I can’t wait to see Barbi’s comeback😍..something tells me she’ll give him hell and I’m here for it!😈

REVIEW

Barbi and the Villain is book one in a brand new and unique dark fantasy romance trilogy.

Did you ever wonder what would you do if you were transported to your favorite book setting? I have. Countless of times. And that's what happened to Barbi in this book.
One day she is reading the newest book of her favorite fantasy series and in a blink, she is in The continent of Akkaya.
The urge to slip the book to the end to make sure all my babies are safe and sound is overwhelming. But I can’t.

Barbi is one of the most relatable characters that I have had the pleasure to read about. She is a reader like me. She can't neglect her skincare routine, like me. She dreams of an epic love that can defie the odds. She also has parents that expect a lot from her.

At first Barbi appears to be an entitled young woman that thinks because she has money she can have anything she wants. But slowly, layer by layer, we are shown a different side to her. One that yearns to be enough and be loved for what she is.
Throughout this book I felt incredibly sorry for the way she was treated. First by her friends, then by her mother and lastly by the characters that she loved with all her might. She is very naive and that has proven to be a character trait that people will exploit to get what they want.

But despite the heavy hand life dealt her, Barbi was also very optimistic. And funny. I can't remember ever laughing as much as I did while reading this book.
The way she approaches every situation through her reader's lenses was comical.
That’s when he shakes his head and turns his back to me. Damn you, romance novels! You’ve skewed my standards for love. Finally, I have the opportunity to experience the one-bed trope, and my not-quite-love-interest vehemently disavows cuddling.

In this book, unfortunately Barbi doesn't get the Hero. No, that would be too easy. Barbi gets accidentally mated to the Villain and they have to work together to survive.

I loved how this book seemed predictable and suddenly did a 180° on us and threw a ginormous Plot twist and left us in an even bigger cliffhanger.

I cannot believe I did not see it coming even tho the signs where there. I was lured into this sense of serenity and safety believing that everything was okay and then BAAM.

I feel incredibly manipulated and betrayed by the stunt Veronica pulled on us.

I hope you are writing that second book Veronica, or else I am flying there and forcing you write.

A much appreciated highlight in this book definitely has to be Pom Pom. The little Pomeranian pet baby that Barbi has. Another thing that I relate to this phenomenal character. Her love for her pet companion can be felt through the pages and it was such a beautiful part of the book

Thank you to the author for providing me with the early copy of this book. I am ecstatic to read the sequel.

PS: notice how I didn't say anything about the villain? That was intentional. You have to find everything by yourself.

DNF @ page 33

Look, I’ve had this book on my wish list for such a long time that I thought I’d finally give it a try. I haven’t read Fairydale and I didn’t know what to expect from this book, but the blurb sounded fun. However, the writing is so cautious that the story lacks any emotion or depth. Barbi comes across as insufferable and so childish that I had to double-check how old she’s meant to be. The countless questions she asks herself don’t help (those should have never made it into the final edition). I think we needed more time with the characters and more time to experience Barbi’s “normal” life before her adventure. Things happen too quickly and we don’t get any time to digest what we read. I can see the humour in the story, and for some readers that is probably enough, but it wasn’t doing the job for me.
