The action-packed series from the #1 digital comic platform WEBTOON continues in a whirlwind of drama, conflict, and secrecy as a rogue group called Ember wreaks havoc and begins attacking the students of Wellston High!
When Seraphina finds herself powerless in a world that prizes powers, she becomes an unexpected target. As Arlo grapples with the task of keeping Seraphina's predicament a secret, a rogue group called Ember begins attacking students without remorse.
Tensions come to a head in this struggle of power dynamics, loss, and the weight of secrets in a world where abilities reign supreme.
john's "I'm a zero" haircut actually makes me feel a level of anger I didn't expect from a haircut. i FINALLY decided i needed to keep reading and will now be catching up with the webtoon hehe
I wish I had the next volume to read right now. I need to know what happens next. Still not a fan of Arlo. Isen and Blyke I’m starting to like. Also, kinda wish John would step up a bit. I understand he has an ugly history, but I mean….what about protecting Sera???? Teenage drama at its finest.
This book was good. I originally thought that the story was a bit slow but then the book took a turn for the better! I am very much looking forward to seeing how John solves his own problems!

The most disappointing thing about this is John has gone back to his stupid hairdo again, haha.
I mean, it doesn't look as horrible as it initially did when I started reading, but when the COVERART advertises his less-stupid hairdo, it's jarring seeing him go back to the stupid one.
The next most disappointing thing is I know I'm nowhere near the current episode in the series and I'm not likely to be since I dislike Webtoon's infinite scrolling. Yes, it's cool when there's a paywall* that you get basically a whole issue for a few cents, but less so when I get motion sick from the scrolling.
This volume contains episode 80 through episode 105** (of 382 at the moment!). At a glance—and only a glance, since the infinite scrolling is pissing me off—I do see a number of panels got dropped entirely when migrating to print format. That seems inefficient—I figured *even when* planning for infinite canvas, most Webtoon artists specifically would plan for print and just crop out each panel accordingly to "fit width," as it were.
Nope, guess a lot of them are doing it arbitrarily! PRINT? Who does THAT anymore?
It's just a little weird in this volume because the panels flow more sensically in the web comic at the end of 105, where reordering the panels to fit the page for print means the end of Chapter 7 for this volume has John re-recoiling, as it were.
On an unrelated note, I went back to deciding to collect this series after all and vaguely regretted giving away the autographed copy I'd gotten, only to find when we went back to the store that there were STILL some copies left. So, now I have one again! Weird that it's only book 2 that's signed, but it's something!
(I will no doubt re-donate the series once it's done, though, given how I'm cycling through books lately.)
...I didn't review the STORY, did I?
Well, hmm. It focuses a LOT on John (and, now, Seraphina) having no powers, and "getting" them for it (or not). It's sort of annoying just how much their society is fixated on powers, but I suppose that's a casualty of powers existing in the first place. Even more "Royalty of the Hill" than normal high school shenanigans, particularly since this is a boarding school (with John now forced into the dorms for extra drama).
I'm definitely still interested in seeing how this pans out, but not on-pins-and-needles interested. I'm almost definitely accurate in my assessment that I will donate the lot after the series is done without some significant plot changes down the road—I suppose I mostly started collecting it again because it's not that many volumes in YET, and it's not (YET) threatening to be the 50+ volumes that Tower of God would be that made me tired of it at book 4 when they changed the print size.
Or, I might give up this series, too, if they ALSO try spontaneously changing the print size on us. Though I'd at least read the books (assuming the library gets them), since reading the slur in the web comic is a bit distasteful to me.
*not that the PAYWALL is cool, but that at least you get a LOT of content for your proprietary "money"
**it's 83 to 108 on the site because intermissions throw off the numbering
If you're looking for a fast-paced high school super-hero action series with great character development, I definitely recommend!
I'm not usually a big graphic novel fan, but this story is riveting! It has a pacing issue that most graphic novels suffer from (not enough happens in each book), but I care a lot more about these characters than I usually do in graphics, so, so far, it's totally fine lol The magic system is fun, if a little loosely defined, but that doesn't take away from the story as the author doesn't use it as a crutch to dig herself out of plot holes. And the class system is very interesting and realistic and is heavily focused on in this volume (good thing!). Will definitely be picking up the next volume once it's out!
The bullying of high tiers against low tiers and zeroes is just as bad as in the past. One of the few good things coming from it though is that Remi, Isen, and Blyke begin to learn the repercussions of such tensions as kids become adults and people are abused.
Before this, Remi learns that authorities don't really care about EMBER and she comes a true superhero.
Other repercussions are those of John beating Arlo and Sera losing her abilities in the past volume. These come full swing by the end of this volume. And John really spirals.
Just like volumes 1 and 2, volume 3 has had me ANCHORED. We’re seeing character dynamics change, more lore, more insight into other regions of their world, and truly understanding the social impact one’s supernatural ability has.
I don’t imagine vol. 4 will come out shortly, but when it does, I will definitely be one of the first to get my hands on a copy. This shits way better than My Hero Academia.
Not my favorite book of the series, needs a little more action and excitement (yes the birth of X-Rei was action packed) but overall it’s setting up this incredible story and I can’t wait to read more!

I have been reading this series on Webtoon for a very, very long time. I am loving every serial, every arc and every character. The progression between the here and now is outstanding and I can't wait to see where this ends.
I bought this volume in order to give back to the creator, Uru-Chan.
J’adore vraiment cette série de roman graphique. En plus d’avoir de super beau dessin, elle remets en question la hiérarchie sociale et la place des élites. Je vous recommande cette saga si vous aimez l’action, la magie et les mystères!
Things are heating up in this volume as tensions begin to rise. The storyline seems to be setting up some intersting plot points, and we get some good character development in this particular volume as well. I'm excited to see what comes next!
No wonder it takes hey-chan over 10 years to write this, I would need over 1000 to come up with these ideas. It’s incredible to see her art style grow along the characters. Rereading it has been one of the best decisions I have done recently!
This is why teenagers superpowers no way the cruelty and inhuman behavior no wonder there is groups out there like EMBER targeting any high tiers. Awesome story already requested volume 4 from my local library.
THIS IS REALLY AMAZING I CANT WAIT TILL NUMBER 4 COMES OUT .This series just keeps adding more and more.I love this.I might just read it online 🤭 Hehehe
