32 Days in May

Rate this book
Return to the Jersey Shore with a new romance by Summertime Punchline author Betty Corrello in which a young woman recently diagnosed with lupus attempts a no-strings fling with a former television star, perfect for readers of Elissa Sussman or Tia Williams.

Nadia Fabiola wants to lose herself in Evergreen—the Jersey Shore town where she grew up vacationing with her family—and never look back at her glamorous, gainfully employed former self. After a shocking lupus diagnosis turned her life upside down, she’s desperate for a sense of control over her body, her life, and her mental health. Nadia plans on keeping her life small and boring, while continuing to ignore her sister’s relentless questioning.

Nadia’s sister isn’t the only person worried about her. When her rheumatologist not-so-subtly sets her up with his infamous former-actor cousin, Marco Antoniou, Nadia is skeptical. But Marco is gorgeous—despite carrying his own baggage from a very public burnout. After a messy (but fun) first date, they decide that a May-long fling could be just what the doctor no commitment, no strings, just one month of escape.

Their undeniable chemistry starts to feel a lot like something more and while Marco pulls Nadia deeper into his life, she is dead set on keeping her diagnosis from him. But there are only so many days in May, and only so much pretending she can do. As the stress of their whirlwind romance takes its toll on Nadia’s health, she’s forced to decide if a chance at love is worth the risk of trusting someone new.

Travel from the Jersey Shore to Rome and back in this delightfully funny, beautifully honest exploration of love, intimacy, and vulnerability while living with a chronic illness.

Betty Corrello is an incredibly beautiful and normal woman. Despite her hardened exterior, she is biologically 95% marshmallow. She blames this on the abundance of water in her astrological chart. Her greatest passion is writing stories where opposites attract, but love is chosen. When she's not writing, she can be found fretting about niche historical events most have forgotten––or petting her very tiny dog. In addition to writing books, she previously performed stand-up and sit-down comedy all over the east coast. She calls herself a stand-up comedian to avoid bullying, but she is actually an improv nerd. She does not like The Harold. She is Italian and American and spent time growing up in both countries. She is a proud Philadelphian. Go Birds.

this was very different than any contemporary romance i've read, and i think that's a good thing.

the cover and the description weren't super appealing to me, to be frank, but i picked this up for a video series i'm working on. and from the jump, i was very intrigued. our heroine has a recent lupus diagnosis that she handles very differently than other heroines with chronic illness i've read. she falls for our hero very quickly. and there isn't a ton of emotional vulnerability in the traditional sense.

but the connection these have through humor? idk it really worked for me. i found myself laughing out loud and wanting to see where things went next.

i don't think this will work for you if you want characters who retreat after dialogue to go inside their head and analyze how they're feeling. if you're skeptical of instant connections. if you don't like this brand of humor.

but again... fuck it. i enjoyed it.

“Today is officially the thirty-second day in May.”

We all know that there are actually not 32 days in May. But what if your life has been dictated by a debilitating illness, and you want to give yourself the month of May to try and forget this fact? Even if it means you keep this fact of your life from a potential love interest.

“I’d tried to be memorable by making myself scarce. I’d tried to be unforgettable by being impenetrable. I’d tried and tried and tried. I didn’t even get a chance to give up. My body did that for me.”

Nadia never anticipated she would meet Marco. So, what happens when love is placed in the equation? Will she be able to find a HEA regardless of this shocking medical diagnosis that has been placed on her?

“Self-care is healthcare. Lupus is not a death sentence.”

Exploration. Love. Dis-ease. Vulnerability. How does one continue to manifest a life with love, with dis-ease?

The author sensitively gives readers the opportunity to explore this romance for a woman who has been diagnosed with ‘systemic lupus erythematosus, or SLE, but most commonly known as just lupus.’ In her ‘dear reader’ note at the beginning the author talks openly about some of the challenges that overcome individuals with such a dis-ease. Thus, also opening up the door to trigger warnings that may be part of her characters journey, such as: ‘feelings of hopelessness, shame, anxiety, life-threatening depression, and even suicidal ideation.’

The author shared in an interview that her inspiration for writing this story came from a movie she and her friends watched called “Sweet November” starring Charlize Theron and Keanu Reaves. It also came from the author’s own autoimmune dis-ease diagnosis.

For those who haven’t seen the movie…

In “Sweet November” two people meet and find themselves intrigued by each other. Since they are not ready to commit, they settle on an unconventional courtship that is a one-month trial. After which they expect that they will go their separate ways. No expectations. No pressure. No strings. But what happens when they fall in love?

So, taking this movie premise, and her own personal experience, the author gives readers the challenge of wondering, will it be possible for Nadia to find love in this imperfect world for her? Can it be a live out loud fantasy of a romance for just one month only?

Readers will follow along with Nadia and Marco in this meet-cute story, with a serious angle. It is…Emotional. Funny. Witty. Heart-warming. Passionate. Light-hearted and serious. As well as…Hopeful.

So, what happens when the end of the month is reached? What will Nadia do? Will this mean there is no happy ending possible? (No spoilers from me.)

One last thing…this is a novel that uses profanity within the narrative to tell its story, even if it feels somewhat understandable when being used. Since the use of foul language is something that causes me to feel uncomfortable reading, I have marked this book down a star. This may not be an issue for some readers, but it was for me.

Nadia Fabiola wants a summer to let loose and have fun, following a diagnosis that turned her world upside down. Former actor Marco Antoniou isn’t looking for a relationship, but is immediately charmed by Nadia during their very messy blind date.

When the two agree to spend the month of May together, à la the film Sweet November, it seems like the perfect way to let loose with no strings. But as their instant chemistry grows into more, they will have to decide if they are willing to risk the status quo at the chance for so much more.

“𝒮𝒽𝑒 𝓇𝑒𝒶𝒹𝓈 𝒷𝑜𝑜𝓀𝓈 𝒷𝑒𝒸𝒶𝓊𝓈𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓎 𝓉𝒶𝓀𝑒 𝒽𝑒𝓇 𝑜𝓊𝓉 𝑜𝒻 𝒽𝑒𝓇 𝒷𝑜𝒹𝓎”

Never has a quote so accurately summed up my struggles. And so to be quite honest, it was a struggle to read a book that is basically the story of my life when it comes to chronic illness and pain. I read, like the character does, to escape the pain I feel living in this body that’s so riddled with chronic inflammatory arthritis.

So why the heck would I want to escape back into reality? 🤣 It was a struggle, but the book itself features great chronic illness rep and shows just how much it can impact someone’s life. The romance was a little far-fetched but also super cute, and I enjoyed the setting and family dynamics immensely, especially as a forever Jersey girl myself.

For those who don’t mind reading about characters going through their same struggles or even seek them out, and those who don’t walk in those shoes, I think you’ll really enjoy this book.

🎧 I read this one with my ears, and I thought the narrator, Joy Nash, was a lot of fun to listen to. If you are an audiobook lover, definitely check it out in this format.

sad girl summer lovers riseeeeee!!!

nadia is sick. and she really doesn’t want to be. when her doctor sets her up with his cousin, she’s not expecting marco to sweep her off her feet. and he’s just as broken as she is.

this was such an emotional and angsty read. the two of them really are two broken people fighting against finding love when it seems pointless. it was supposed to only be for may, after all.

the setting, writing, and journey these two went on was so poignant and i truly could not put this book down. i loved watching them slowly unravel for each other. the third act breakup felt super realistic for them as a couple and i loved how it ended.

what to expect
⟢ only for the month of may
⟢ chronic illness rep
⟢ depression and addiction rep
⟢ jersey shore and italy setting

I tried so hard to love this. But I just didn’t.

The story was promising, and the beginning had me hooked. But I wasn’t a fan of the storytelling. It made it seem rushed.

I did not care for the characters. I had no attachment to them. To the point that if they died I would not have shed a tear. There just wasn’t enough depth to these characters to get you to want to tell the world about them.

There was no chemistry, in my opinion, between Marco and Nadia. It was nonexistent. They wanted to be that IT couple so bad. A part of me really hates myself for not loving this book as much as I wanted to. I think I might reread it at some point to see if my thoughts will change, but at the moment I just wasn’t attached to anyone or anything in this🤷🏻‍♀️

Two great main characters with an iffy ending.

I was a little hesitant at the start of the book. The FMC was popping off right away but there were a lot of short sections so it felt a little choppy. But the sections started getting longer and then I was actually enjoying the breaks we'd get because the chapters could be quite lengthy.

But Nadia was a piece of work, but in mostly a good way. The things she said were absolutely ridiculous and her personality was just so big. And Marco. What a teddy bear. Every time he was described I just wanted to hug him. And also, when can I be whisked off to Rome for a romantic getaway?

I wish we would have gotten a little more out of Marco's backstory. We were so saturated in Nadia's story, it would have been nice to get a break from it and get his story.

And the ending. I just don't how to feel about it. It was rushed. It was infuriating. And it was a little dumb. No good explanations, NO GROVELING.

But up until then I was enjoying myself and would recommend for those who like an illness representation.

Thank you NetGalley and Avon for this arc in exchange for an honest review!

Betty Corrello has written two for two absolute bangers, in my opinion. "32 Days in May" is incredible. Her writing style is very much right up my alley, and I felt every single emotion while reading this novel. Her humor and heart shine through in each sentence she writes. Her banter is top-notch. The emotions here are raw, deep, realistic, vulnerable, honest, tender, a little manic, and intricate. This book revolves around an insta-love plot, but unlike most novels, Corrello makes the trope work to her advantage by giving her characters depth and nuance, plus a touch of spice for good measure. Nadia and Marco are both extremely flawed individuals, but they are both so compelling as main characters. Their chemistry is off-the-charts good. They skate around their respective issues throughout their arranged time together (throughout the month of May) but, as they grow closer by the day, they slowly let their guards down and begin to heal themselves, and by proxy, each other. Marco is a "k-list celebrity," as they describe it, and my god, what a charmer. By far, the most interesting component of this story involves Nadia's lupus diagnosis. She has to get used to her new reality of bloodwork, daily pills, doctor's appointments, and her disease worsening. As someone with a chronic illness, I found this to be endlessly relatable. I understand all too well the notion of one's body betraying them time and time again. I empathized wholeheartedly with Nadia. If you've been an independent, able-bodied person like she had been up until that point, it's a stark difference to need to rely on people to help you do what others might deem a "simple" task. JUst getting out of bed can be a struggle, and don't get me started on the mental health aspects of being disabled. This all made me SOB, repeatedly. I felt so seen while reading this. I loved returning to Evergreen, New Jersey, and I adored every second of reading this book. This is what falling in love should feel like. I cannot wait to see what Betty Corrello writes next!

Thank you to NetGalley, Betty Corrello, Avon, and Harper Voyager for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

Wow, this book was amazing! Betty Corrello wrote such a beautiful, funny, emotional, and super real romance about a young woman named Nadia, who’s just been diagnosed with lupus, and her whole “no-strings” thing with Marco, a former TV star, for one month. She’s determined to keep her illness a secret, and the way this story handled life, love, and living with a chronic illness was so, so good.

The chronic illness representation in this book was honestly one of the best I’ve ever read. Not only did I learn a ton about lupus, but the way the author captured what it’s like living with an autoimmune disorder felt so authentic and thoughtful.

And let’s talk about Nadia and Marco — I adored them! Their connection, the way they challenged each other and brought out the best in one another, it just felt so natural and sweet.

Also, I loved how the book was set up, with each chapter starting on a different day in May. It made it flow so well, and I literally couldn’t put it down. If you’re looking for something to add to your summer reading list, this one needs to be on it!

32 days in May, on the surface, may seem like a typical contemporary romance. It has an "everyday" quality that describes the most mundane details about someone like only someone who is gently falling in love can.

We are on the Jersey Shore, seeing the world through Nadia's eyes, she attempted suicide due to debilitating depression after a lupus diagnosis. Lupus has given her terrible migraine headaches, overall body pain, and led to her being let go from her job. It was an all consuming job, one of those that we have a hard time separating our identity from. She is introduced to Marco, a celebrity former
TV actor who is the relative of her doctor. Marco is working hard at his sobriety and finding his next steps. They are instantly attracted to each other and decide to date for the month of May, a no-commitment casual relationship that will end when he goes back to LA.

Nadia doesn't tell him about her lupus or her depression, taking her medications in secret and getting to live a minor fantasy, having someone know her without knowing her diagnosis.

Beautiful, sweeping descriptions of the boardwalk and the ocean, sometimes snarky observations interspersed with well timed dialogue, 32 Days in May is an emotional romance. Who hasn't fantasized about being able to hide the shame of ourselves and find intimacy outside of our brokenness? And to have someone say, "I love you, for all you are, and the thing you are ashamed of is not something that defines you."

I have actually daydreamed about writing a book like this one. I have a severe case of misophonia, a loneliness inducing condition that is filled with shame. It is widely misunderstood, and to have someone love me despite my diagnosis is a romantic notion I can't even rationalize. You will love Marco and you will want to wrap up Nadia and be her big sister.

Thanks to @netgalley and @avonbooks for the ARC. Book to be released May 13, 2025.

I was intrigued by this one right away when I heard it was similar to the movie Sweet November. It's an emotional read at times, but there are very sweet and hilarious moments too. I thought the chronic illness representation was really well done and appreciated that the author didn't shy away from the tough moments. The story was balanced well with a snarky banter filled (instalove) romance, but I do wish that Nadia would have revealed her diagnosis much sooner. That secret lasted almost the entire book and it seemed far fetched that Marco wouldn't notice anything given how much time they spent together. This made the ending feel incredibly rushed and incomplete. I wanted more of a reckoning (with groveling) between them. I'm glad this one had a happier ending than Sweet November though ;)

I both read and listened to the audiobook of 32 Days in May. Joy Nash did a great job overall with the narration, but the Jersey accent felt forced at times. It was distracting and unfortunately took away from the story. I do wonder if I might have enjoyed this one a bit more if I had just read the ebook.

I couldn’t put this one down. The banter!?! I fell in love with Betty’s writing.

Nadia is flawed in the most relatable way. She made me laugh with her and ache for her as she navigated her diagnosis. Marco was the perfect counterpart, and I kicked my feet at his wittiness.

32 Days in May is a beautiful and emotional contemporary romance. Jessica Joyce/Hannah Bonam-Young fans, this one is right up your alley!

I am officially declaring Betty Corrello as a favourite author! Her writing is so funny, bantery, and emotionally insightful. And the format of (mostly) short chapters in this one, each set on a different day in May, made the story fly by in the best way!

Nadia is struggling with a recent lupus diagnosis. A detail about her life she keeps hidden from Marco, the man she agrees to date only for the month of May while he’s temporarily in Evergreen. The portrayal of chronic illness here is so hard-hitting. Her pain, her exhaustion, the way her entire sense of normal has shifted—it’s all so honestly depicted. As much as I wanted Nadia to be honest with Marco, I completely understood her mindset. She wants him to see her the way she wants to be seen. Spontaneous. Fun. Healthy. And that just broke my heart.

Marco, meanwhile, has his own struggles, and he was just ... so incredibly sweet and charismatic and ready for a good time. And clearly falling for Nadia without knowing the full weight she’s carrying. Their one-month dating pact makes their relationship build quickly. It’s frantic, fast, intense. But their emotional connection felt so palpable and believable. I couldn’t get enough of them. And the title explanation in the epilogue! A perfect end to a deeply moving romance.

“It’s so unfair.” ...
“You’ve just existed all these years, and I only get to have you now.”

*audiobook and paperback

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (there is spice but it doesn’t FEEL spicy…see review)

“If ever there were a physical manifestation of depression, it would be the Jersey shore in the middle of January.”

“He looks like he could change a tire or smack an ass with authority.”

“My guard is down and for the first time in months I feel like I’m one with my body.

“Is it possible Marco has melted me back together, cured me, penile-ly?”

“I had to trap you.”

“Forgive me Father, for I have Googled.”

“Sickness has a way of making you aware of every dimension of yourself.” #facts

“When I keep things small I can manage.”

“…she reads books because they take her out of her body.”

“I will brush your hair.”

Random Thoughts Upon Reading: Nadia is right the perfect haircut for a man is short on the sides longer on the top; OMG so my husband and I aren’t the only ones that get migraines from hotdogs.; Is the thing about Spanish Sex (Italian Translation Titty Fu@king) for real? I’d check it myself but I don’t want the algorithm to start putting nonsense on my phone 😂: How on earth did that mother leave her son Emmitt in the hands of a complete stranger for a boat ride!!!?

Omg the intro about triggers spoke to my heart as a fellow autoimmune disease warrior. I feel seen. However, I’m fortunate enough that mine is relatively well-controlled for the most part. The author shines the spotlight on how you can be physically exhausted but your mind is awake due to the pain and then when you’re feeling good you’re just waiting for the other shoe to drop, waiting for the next flare.

Synopsis: Nadia is so over having lupus and everyone fussing about it. Nadia doesn’t want her family freaking out over her lupus diagnosis. Especially after she finds out it has progressed. The relentless worrying of her family and her doctor are driving her insane. Her rheumatologist decides to set Nadia up with Marco an infamous ex Hollywood type. They agree to have a fun fling for the month of May. Only they fall for each other but this isn’t a relationship that could ever work, it’s a logistical nightmare!

Then there’s the issue of Nadia not wanting to tell Marco about her diagnosis because the last thing she needs is another person nagging and worrying about her.

It’s interesting because Marco and Nadia seem so great together and there were several intimate scenes but I didn’t feel the chemistry on the page but at the same time their relationship did feel genuine. This one was unique in that (1) geographically Nadia and Marco make no sense yet it works, (2) chemistry was lukewarm despite intimate scenes yet you feel the connection, (3) the “own your sh!t” mentality was so great, (4) there are secrets but the MCs really GET each other. All that being said they just make soooo much sense for some reason. Instalove usually makes me gag but as abbreviated as this love affair was they really packed a lot of development as both individuals and a unit. It was refreshing honestly.

I've been in more of a romance mood lately so I'm trying some more out. I like the comforting fantasy of them some days. But I have a hard time finding contemporary romances I really like. I like this blend of cozy but not so cozy that I get bored and see it as unrealistic, but I also like reality to intrude a bit and there to be some stakes. I am drawn to contemporary romances that have a different angle.

This one intrigued me because it features an FMC with a chronic illness, lupus, who is hiding out in Evergreen on the Jersey Shore. I like seeing people of all backgrounds finding love despite the challenges. I thought the representation of Nadia's lupus was very well done and I liked seeing that in a romance.

But I struggle when reality intrudes on romances in the form of betrayals and lies. Some people swear by no cheating in romances but other types of betrayals are just as hurtful and they make me doubt the romance.

Nadia is set up with her doctor's cousin, Marco, a former actor who has struggled with addiction. The two agree to a casual fling, dating for the month of May, and then will go their separate ways. Nadia gets a chance to just be herself as if she were a healthy person deserving of love, and Marco gets an escape from his past.

I enjoyed the two of them together but I really struggled with Nadia's decision to withhold her diagnosis from the closest people in her life. She doesn't tell Marco about lupus until after they have fallen in love and while I understand her motivations, to me this is an unforgivable emotional betrayal for something that has a huge impact on her life. I wanted to see how Marco would handle sick Nadia, too, other than a scene where she has a flare up and a seizure.

I didn't like her family, either. They kept pushing her to live like a well person without stopping to consider why she might have so drastically upended her life. I found them stifling and cold instead of loving and supportive. Most people in her life were so judgmental.

At least Nadia had Soph and Allie, her supportive queer neighbors.

There was also too much instalove, developing strong feelings after just two weeks, and I didn't believe in it enough. I kept rolling my eyes at the cheesiness after their love declarations. All while living the lie that Nadia was a well person.

I also was a little appalled that they went on a whale watching cruise and a pregnant woman hands two strangers her toddler to watch and then obsesses over whether they've gotten laid yet. Who does that??? The scene was supposed to be cute but it made me uncomfortable.

I hold out hope that I will find the perfect contemporary romance but this one wasn't for me.

This didn't work for me.
The plot is intriguing and I was really excited for a first person account of Lupus and day to day life of living with it while still trying to, you know, live your life.
I just didn't like the characters and the pace of the story was a bit rushed.
I felt no development of true feels between Marco and Nadia which made it difficult to be invested.
It all felt very superficial and I had hoped for a deeper connection in the story.

Nadia Fabiola seeks refuge in her childhood beach town after a lupus diagnosis upends her life, determined to keep things simple. However, a fling with charming former actor Marco Antoniou complicates her plans, challenging her to confront her fears and the possibility of love.

It is amazing how books and authors come into my life. I randomly came across Summertime Punchline and Betty Corrello in February, and I haven’t stopped recommending her books since. I absolutely adore her voice, wit, and charm. Not to mention - she’s one of the kindest authors I’ve chatted with. And she indulges my messages 🥹🫶🏻😅.

Needless to say… I’ve been dying to get my hands on her second book. I preordered immediately, and I was invited to read a digital copy.

Y’all. There’s no sophomore slump here. Nadia and Marco have SIZZLING chemistry from the get. I was immediately drawn into their dynamic, and I wanted MORE. I dropped everything to read this, and didn’t put it down til I finished. The yearning. The fear. The joy. The love. The banter. The tension. These two are HOT.

Not only do our leads have incredible chemistry, but they are dealing with some heavy sh!t. From lupus to feeling like a failure to sibling fights to finding your place in the world. I love a grand gesture y’all and I love quiet love. These two have both.

I can’t wait to hold my physical copy in my hands. I’ll leave you with a couple of my unhinged reactions.

“Thank GOD Marco has chest hair. I’d die if Nadia didn’t get to run her hands through it.”

“I am a sucker for dimples.”

“Ok but what if I cry!!”

I absolutely loved this book! I feel like it was written for me!! I also have lupus and while reading I connected with the main character so much! Between the meds and flare ups and exhaustion the author did an incredible job writing about the illness! This sweet romance was just what the doctor ordered!!

Nadia Fabiola has lupus she’s still reeling after her diagnosis and the loss of her job. When her doctor introduces her to his cousin Marco Antoniou an infamous former-actor cousin she decides to to keep her illnesses hidden from him, she doesn’t want him to treat her different. She’s tired of everyone looking at her like she’s fragile and weak, plus he’s only in town for a month. Determined to keep things simple and boring . After a messy (but fun) first date, they decide that a May-long fling could be just what the doctor ordered a no commitment, no strings, just one month of escape.

Betty Corrello’s SUMMERTIME PUNCHLINE was one of my favorite books of 2024! Her sophomore novel, 32 DAYS IN MAY, is just as romantic and full of heart 🫶

Returning to Evergreen, New Jersey was a joy 🎡 the main character, Nadia, was recently diagnosed with lupus and finds herself in a no-strings fling with a former TV star.

I learned so much about lupus and how debilitating it can be. Betty wrote such a real character with real thoughts and feelings.

Loved the found family, loved the real-life topics… simply loved it all.

At times this story was heartbreaking. But the love story and Betty’s sharp humor bring home a truly beautiful story, with characters I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to.

Please add this to your TBR (and go preorder it)! You’ll thank me later 💛

I haven’t been totally surprised by a book in a while, and this heart-filled story did just that! ☀️🐋🐚🌊 Thank you to @lavenderpublicrelations for the advanced copy!

Having been recently diagnosed with lupus, Nadia just wants to not be sick. After escaping to the small town on the Jersey Shore where she grew up, we watch as Nadia seeks to gain control over her life post-diagnosis. When the hot cousin of her rheumatologist comes to town and proposes a no-strings summer fling a la ‘Sweet November’, but for the month of May, she decides to jump at the chance.

The chemistry between Marco and Nadia is instant. I am shying away from calling it insta love, but there is something magnetic there right from the start, and I was OBSESSED! The way these two flirted and bickered with one another made me giggle and subsequently roll my eyes. I loved every second. Marco brought out a side of Nadia that she became desperate to hold on to, and I loved to see her flourish.

I absolutely love it when a couple says their relationship is only temporary, but slowly they begin to wonder ‘what if’! I mean… *SWOON*! As the days passed, Nadia and Marco found themselves falling deeper and deeper into each other’s orbit, despite the looming end date.

This story made me giddy, it made me teary, it made me anxious, and it made me believe that with love, you can overcome even the hardest things. This story was just so wonderful! With her perfectly timed one-liners that had me laughing out loud, I couldn’t stop myself from falling in love with Betty’s writing. I need to go back and read her debut next! I cannot wait!

Thank you again to Lavender PR & @avonbooks!

This book is COMPULSIVELY charming. I found Nadia's grumpiness so funny, not a put-on to live into the grumpy-shine trope. The author did a great job creating a character who's guard is up in a honest way. Nadia processes what it looks like to mourn her old life in relation to her diagnosis, which felt authentic. Fighting with your sister in the most brutal way possible? Absolutely. This book felt so lived in. Highly recommend.

Thank you to Avon, Harper Voyager, and Netgalley for the ARC!

There’s so much good stuff going on in this heartfelt romance, I loved some of the themes that are explored. Our heroine is grappling with the recent diagnosis of a chronic illness, so she’s not in the right headspace for a relationship. Our hero is in a messy place too, but they form a connection that is impossible to ignore. I loved the complexity of the characters and the fresh, nuanced storyline. I can honestly say I’ve never read a romance quite like this one, and there were moments that were really, really good. There was also something about the writing style that kept me feeling like an outsider looking in. Not sure how to describe it, other than to say that it felt abrupt at times, and that’s what keeps this from being a 5-star read for me. But it’s well worth the read.

The story follows Nadia, a firecracker of a woman who was recently diagnosed with lupus. It’s an illness that can feel like a death sentence at times, wreaking havoc on the body with no end in sight. So when she’s set up with Marco, an actor who is dealing with his own issues, it’s not a match made in heaven. The two have fun though, and it’s a refreshing break from the reality of their lives. Since Marco is only in town temporarily, Nadia and Marco agree to a month of fun, carefree dates before they part ways. But their connection gets stronger every day, revealing the potential for something big and scary.

I heard such good things about this book before diving in, and I can see why. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more from Corrello in the future, she’s got some serious talent. I empathized with Nadia, but also loved her fire and strength. She’s a strong heroine who knows just how to handle the wildcard that is Marco. I liked him more as the story progressed, and it was great seeing them grow closer when that wasn’t something they were trying to do. There were a few moments that didn’t quite work for me, but the vast majority of the book is fantastic. The voice also feels unique, and I’m excited to see the author’s writing continue to grow.

Audio note: Great audio, but I recommend listening to the sample first. Nadia is from the Jersey Shore, so the narrator uses an accent throughout the audiobook. It adds a lot of personality to the performance, but not everyone will love it. Joy Nash is a new-to-me narrator, and I think she did an excellent job. The runtime (9-10 hours) is perfect for a single day binge, and the women’s fiction crossover vibes are ideal for the format. There’s a little bit of spice, but it’s not particularly descriptive, so probably not a bad choice for a workday listen. Definitely recommended in the format overall.

4.75 stars!!!

actually blown away by betty corrello's sophomore novel!! this one had me on my knees - sobbing, laughing, hyperventilating, sweating, swooning, blushing!!!! marco is one of the smoothest men i've ever met wow. nadia is one of the strongest women i've ever met. everything about this book was fantastic! hilarious moments. so much character growth!! a whale-watching scene that was truly tooo sweet! meeting YOUR person. learning to love life again!

the beautiful thing about this book is that it's not just the struggles of a chronic illness and the mental health toll it takes (which betty tackled in such a fantastic way - so real and raw); there's so much laughter and love and life. these absolutely impactful moments that nadia and marco both experience that give hope for a future. and the way they love each other and support each other and get each other, amazing!!!

having a hard time putting into words how much this story meant to me, someone who deals with chronic pain in the form of migraines. the fear, the anxiety, the struggle of everyday life -- betty put that experience so perfectly into words that i just ... WOW. and nadia's journey through it all 😭 yeah the tears flowed. it is SO HARD to take care of yourself and not feel like a burden to other people. it is so scary and frustrating to go through so many tests and so many different types of medicine to just hope and pray one will stick. it is exhausting to cater your every single move to prevent pain. and nadia definitely has a more intense chronic illness than me. the mental health toll it takes. if you've experienced any form of chronic illness, read this because you will feel so seen. if you've don't have that particular blessing, read this to better understand what those with chronic illnesses go through.

the ending took me out (in a good way) i love marco & now the month of may an insane amount!!!!

thank you Avon & Netgalley for the eARC! this is my honest review.
