Finishing up his first year as a cadet-adept, Desmond’s life is going pretty well as far as he’s concerned.
Three beautiful and exotic women love him and have agreed to entwine their lives together. His powers as an Adept have continued to grow as he practices and refines weaving the threads of mana into the world. All while he continues to defy the expectations set by his origins. Sure, he’s still a member of the active military training for one of the most dangerous jobs in the entire Hegemony, but with his girls at his side, Desmond is confident he can handle it.
But things that have been set into motion continue to whir in the background. With a nation as large as the Hegemony of Velvet Stars, occupying nearly two-thirds of the Milky-Way galaxy, there are plots within plots. Plans and schemes that have been moving for longer than Desmond has been alive continue along their planned path, and some of those paths will converge with his.
What is a man who’s goal in life is to live up to the image his girls have of him to do? Will they do their duty? Or will they keep their heads down?
*** Monster Girls In Space is a Sci-Fi, fantasy, semi-military, men’s romance, progression fantasy about a man becoming a space-wizard amongst a universe full of monster girls (it’s in the title, you should have expected that part). Expect adventure, mischief, magic, fighting, and unconventional relationships in a galaxy that is curious what sort of mischief Humanity will get up to.
I loved the right balance of space drama, space wizard, and harem.
The pace was good, the story was just on the right side if luck and OP world.
The bad part, there were a few details that should not have been left out. The issue could have been taken care of with a broad brush, however certain actions should have been at least covered with something like, "the medical check up showed all was fine and there was no damage to the mana system...." or "take two weeks off and come back for a follow up visit...." instead it was left hanging.
Note, I did give 5 stars, I just hope the author reads this and doesn't take it as any but a constructive observation to increase the enjoyment of the story.
...
Now, if you love "monster-girl esk, stories and you are a sci-fi fan, worth reading.
If you don't like this genre, then skip this series.
The third book in the series has the same solid and awesome character and world development as the previous books. Each one sucks you in for a fun filled wild ride that you don’t want to put down; and when you’re done always impatiently waiting for more. Highly recommend this book and the series to any reader, has a great story and the intimate scenes enhance the story not detract. Nor is it 80% intimate like some harem books, this book had few physical intimate scenes but enough emotionally intimate scenes that you can feel the depth of feelings between the characters. So if you want to skip the physical intimacy then you can without losing anything from the story.
The best yet of a very good series so far. I'm loving the story and the characters so far. The MC is exactly what one should look for in harem genre. Tough but caring, self assured but not narcissistic, smart but open to learning. He's an Alpha but like te best Alphas doesn't feel the need to run around telling the world I'm an Alpha. His actions prove it. The women are just as important in the story. They aren't just there for the readers fantasy. They are strong and smart on their own and prove themselves repeatedly. This series is what harem should be. Considering sci-fi is one of my least favorite genres this series was a great surprise for me. I now have another author I would put up there with Daniel schinhofen. Can't wait for book 4.
awesome series, hope it keeps going or gets a new perspective
I really loved Desmond and the girls adventures as cadet-adepts and I hope to still see some action especially with the other stellar empires or some crazy mana stuff happens to earth after being mana starts coming back. There is one more thing but I’ll put it below since it’s a possible spoiler. Regardless you have a lot of avenues to continue the story with Desmond and I believe still has 1-2 slots left for his team so maybe more have yet to join?
I really loved Chloe’s blurb about gods being 4th dimension beings after the Morrigan spell and maybe see if some gods come back to humanity or makes themselves known to Desmond due to his humanity.
On all first 3 MGIS books: really TOO LONG!!! M. Tress (recent author in the genre) should not be discouraged to continue writing (BTW, did not yet have a chance to look at his other 2 series). However, whatever action is spread over 4 (AFAIK) 500 pages books could best be told in half as much, with the consequence that progress is too slow, encouraging the reader to skip pages even chapters. Also, had the impression that the author does not really know whether he should be focusing on the SF (alien characters) / Military / Harem aspect. Last, the galatic-spanning alien civilization totally lacks realism; combining different physical features with almost identical cultural traits does not work for me.
In the second and final year of the academy, this story is hitting it’s stride as we start to see things moving beneath the surface. The author has done a good job fleshing out his main characters, and everyone feels like they are getting adequate attention (unfortunately that still frequently involves constant blushing). This author is growing on me in general as he seems to know what’s up based on his references, although Desmond does spend an inordinate amount of time teaching his “girls” memes. It was good to have more humans added to the cast and see their reactions to Desmond, so I’m interested to see them make a visit to Earth eventually. I’m excited to continue and see what happens in book 4.
I'm really lucky to have picked up this series when the third one was to be released a week later. Anyway, I really enjoy this series and this book. The story is progressing in quite an interesting way. I like that it's all still pretty grounded and what's being achieved is actually earned and makes sense.
I'm just really curious how Camilla's character is going to play in; in the future. For how little she's actually in the book, I find the scenes she's in drawn to her. Like her actions are just building her future events with how she interacts and what she evokes.
The story continues on from the last one, the developments of the larger Hegemony start to make themselves known and the larger world building throughout the series begins to make it's display.
I am deeply excited with how the world and characters are built. This author does well to build upeach character and makes a story that stays interesting. Just when you think things might settle into predictability, the story takes a turn. It's not always the shocking kind either, it all feels really well written and pleasant.
I can't wait to see where the series goes from here! The series is great
The MC completes his cadet training, delving rifts, fighting terrorists, slavers and mauraders. They pick up an Aelfa guard to round out the squat to 4 guards and an Adept. They also foil a plot that had been brewing for awhile, but it lands them in the brig.
The story is well written with lots of cultural worldbuilding for the fantasy races. There are training montages, firefights and some intrigue. All told, this is a well written story with very good bones that also has some depth to it.
Loved this series so far. The characters are believable and relatable to. The action is intense and well written. The mirth and humor provided by each character fits in their character very well. The world building is on par with any movie in the sci-fi genre. I look forward to reading more of "Little Boss's" adventures in future books. Thank you M. Tress for such a fine series so far.
This book continues what is easily the surprise hit series this (2024) year in haremlit. The storytelling is elite, the characters are awesome, and the plot is very nicely woven.
It's always a treat to read about a MC that isn't the pinnacle of everything. Sure, he's really good in this case, but it's more about enhancing his team and really listening to both his teachings and instincts. And he's not a jerk about how good he's getting.
From start to finish, the whole series, kept me captivated. I thought it might be slow and boring but the way it is written on the day to day endeavors just kept it rolling. Nothing special, just describing a person adapting to a new life, a new world, just putting one foot in front of the other. A great story how a person overcome obstacles in everyday life. How not letting prejudices rule your world.
...and that little telegraphed bombshell about who the ship's captain was at the end still made me cackle like an idiot. I absolutely adore the fact that the author doesn't just do "sex is a great page filler material" and keeps it kinda' relevant.
My only complaints thus far are the comparisons of the supporting cast to dogs and that I haven't found art for all of the characters.
Very impressed with this series. Generally don't go in for "monster girl harem" books, as they tend to be targeted at 20 something males, which I am far past. Glad I picked it up. Well written, well edited, interesting storyline and characters, and well thought world. Enjoy.
This is a great space fantasy that will keep you up at night reading it. It is exciting and dramatic and will tickle your emotions. It has its erotic scenes that are pleasantly thoughtful. I loved reading all three novels in the series and hope to read more in the future.
This 3rd instalment was equally as excellent as the first two book were. I really enjoyed reading it. My only gripe is that the book had to end at some point. I enjoyed the world and the journey it invited me to join in. The editing was very good. I am looking forward to read the next book in this series!
This series popped up,a few times in my selection and finally gave it a read. Hadn’t finished the first book before I grabbed the next two knowing that I would want to keep reading and not have to search for the next ones. Can’t wait to see what Adept Desmond and team get up to in further adventures.
Still the fun series. The lovey dove can be a bit over the top at times but overall, greatI enjoy the setting universe that this story is played out and and of course, that unique. Situation that the MC finds himself in. He is special but not that special. I was hoping his magic would be a bit more leveraged. But overall, it's a great balance..
Love this series and love this author. The HLit aspect could not even be here and this series would be great. But the interactions between the characters are what really do it for me. There are real connections with believable romance which is a little rare in this genre. It is sweet and very well written. I can’t wait for more!
Alternate universe, magic, SF advanced technology, harem adult situations
Marauding aliens, enemy assassins, politics, and Rift monsters. And another guard joins the team. Excellent editing. Over 525 pages for the price. Dense universe building. Diving into book 4 next.
Day four and about to start the fourth volume. As ever with Kindle unLimited, irritated by the incomplete editing. The most common error in this work is homophones: fazed/phased, compliment/complement, though the grocer’s errors persist. Thoroughly enjoying the story development, though I do skip most of the sex scenes.
This was a great continuation to the series and I’m already counting the days until the next. It was a great wrap up to the current arc of Des is current adventure and leaves plenty for a new path for the author to take. Worth the buy not just read
Dess gets a forth and formalizies his clan. This book finishes his time at the Academy and sets up his next series of missions as an Adept. Looking forward to that series.
The third installment didn't disappoint. The Mc and his group continue to grow. The storyline progressed wonderfully. The only thing is the wait for the fourth book is going to hurt!
This has been a great surprise of a series. Love the pace of the story and the camaraderie between Desmond and his girls. Filled out the group with a 4th and a good fit. Can’t wait to see where the story goes now that the academy part is done.
I can’t believe I went through all 3 books so fast, this series was just something else. One of the best harem series out right now. Cannot wait to read more of this authors work in the further and the next book in the series.
Overall the book ticks all the boxes . Action, spice, intrigue ,great characters BUT The whole I’ll do anything for my mates being beat to death was somewhat annoying,we get it no need for it to be in every other paragraph
I don't normally write a review but want to encourage this series. Love the fully fledged characters with unique personalities and not just tag alongs or notches on a bed post. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
Wow!! Tight narrative! Never expected politics out there related to here.
So I have enjoyed the adventure 3 times. Each time brings more outdoor enjoy! My concern is when is #4 coming out. Please hurry as my time here is diminishing so please hurry!!!
