From the city to the backwoods. A simple manhunt takes a complicated turn when Kenna and Ramon wind up in the bayou facing a dangerous family. The hunt follows them back to New Orleans, where things go from bad to worse the night a group of gunmen tear up a hospital trying to get to a newborn baby. Pulled in different directions, Kenna is just trying to make sense of the threads of this case. Even with Ramon’s help, it won’t be easy to solve this one.
From death to life. Forced to confront a part of her childhood she’s buried, Kenna repays a debt she’s owed for a long time. But that doesn’t stop the threat. Even with the family matriarch in jail, the case isn’t over. Innocents are at risk and it’s only a matter of time before safety becomes an illusion. Pushed to the end of her strength, Kenna realizes how much she has even when she’s got nothing left.
Lisa Phillips is a USA Today and top ten Publishers Weekly bestselling author of over 80 books that span Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense line, independently published series romantic suspense, and thriller novels. She’s discovered a penchant for high-stakes stories of mayhem and disaster where you can find made-for-each-other love that always ends in happily ever after.
Lisa is a British ex-pat who grew up an hour outside of London and attended Calvary Chapel Bible College, where she met her husband. He’s from California, but nobody’s perfect. It wasn’t until her Bible College graduation that she figured out she was a writer (someone told her). Lisa is a worship leader, tea aficionado, and dog lover of two crazy Airedales.
“Come down. Let’s talk about it. I can help you. You don’t know this, but it’s what I do. I find people, and I help them. No matter what. I don’t give up when someone is in trouble.”
This line shows just how much compassion Kenna has, and stress that she’s under as a private investigator. There are so may great fight sequences in this story, but I felt for her, she became so real as she put her life on the line to save others. This scene—along with many others—had heart and became visual like a thriller movie.
You’ll laugh and be on the edge of your seat with this one. I even winced. Poor Kenna has a dangerous life. I felt her pain lol. This is a must read for lovers of action, suspense and inspiration.
Set in New Orleans, Fear No Evil kept me on the edge of my seat as the case Kenna and Ramon are investigating becomes more involved and complex with twists and turns. Readers will enjoy a flashback to a younger Kenna and how that flashback has ties to the present. I enjoyed the faith elements in this story and the lessons that Kenna learned. From a dangerous family to gunmen trying to kidnap a newborn baby, this story will have you flipping through the pages until you get through the end. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Kenna and Ramon head to the deep south for a case where it doesn’t take long for trouble to find them. With a newborn baby and killer’s on their tails, it definitely keeps them on their toes. My favorite part of the story is that more of Kenna’s past is revealed.
I received an advanced reader’s copy from Two Dogs Publishing and the author. Opinions are my own.
Of course I read Christian mysteries because (when done well) they prove you can have a whodunit without vulgarities, and one (usually the investigator) or more people have strong faith. The reason I read series instead of standalones is because I love getting to know the cast.
The Brand of Justice world is expanding. The lead is growing in faith and opening herself to forging bonds, creating family. We’re also getting to know more about the main returning characters, and we’re being introduced to others who are recurring, people who may elevate from acquaintance to friend to “family” down the road. That’s my favorite part of this world—the growth.
Two, maybe three, such characters shine in this story. Ramon and Bear are favorites of mine who are positioned to grow close to Kenna, and Preston is an enigma with the potential to be a long-term ally as well as answer questions about Kenna’s dad. I’m looking forward to seeing more of all of them. (That said, it doesn’t mean I want less of her established circle, and we’re missing quality time with Stairns and Ryson. Even Jax is losing page time. Definitely want more of them without losing the new people.)
Aside from the characters, this was another fast-paced plot with a lot of danger and a lot of pain, physical and emotional. Both will undoubtedly lead to hiccups in later books, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out. On to the next one…
Trouble finds Kenna wherever she goes. But now that she's training Ramon to be a PI at least she has backup, much to the relief of Maizie and Jax. While chairing a bond jumper in New Orleans Kenna crosses a local hard nosed, crazy female criminal who's determined to take the soon to be born baby in lieu of what the bond jumper owed her. So now Kenna and Ramon find themselves on protection duty on the maternity floor. S usual Kenna is figuring out unsolved crimes the local police have struggled with for months. And of course being in New Orleans they run into lots of mysticism. And par for the course when Kenna is on a case they're chased, run off a bridge into the river, step in to protect innocents, and mourn when someone connected to them doesn't make it. But something different happens this time placing Kenna in extra danger. But each step of the way Kenna is learning to trust God more and show Ramon who God is rather than just telling him; praying he will learn the God is real. Also, some changes are happening in Kenya's and Jax's relationship, but you'll have to discover what it is for yourself. As always you won't be able to put this book down.
This book was such a joy to read. Part of me wishes it was longer, but…nope. It was just the right length. This story was SO engaging. I hated to put it down for even five minutes. Lisa Phillips wove yet another entertaining story of Kenna Banbury’s life. The presence of her partner Ramon and their sibling banter really made this a fun read. The end was perfect! So sweet and a little sad (no worries though Kenna’s fine.) Looking forward to the next installment of this epic series, that hopefully includes a little more Jax in it. ;)
I received an ARC copy of this epic book. All opinions stated are my own.
I really enjoyed reading Fear No Evil by Lisa Phillips! It is the 9th book in the brand of Justice book series. I really enjoyed the way the author brought the ripple effect into the story line showing the characters hidden connections to other characters. Another aspect I liked was the progression of Kenna’s faith along the way. It also showed how the experiences in people’s lives explained the way they behaved in certain situations. Kenna doesn’t judge others for their actions and connects the actions to their life experiences. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who loves suspense novels.
Fear no evil - brand of justice book 9 - Lisa Phillips.
I've always said that the Witsec series was my favorite of Lisas and it has been for many years now but, Brand of Justice is certainly rising to the top of the list, each book in this series has been better than the last, Fear no evil is no exception. I even gasped a couple times 🤣 was also disappointed with the cliff hanger at the end, looking at you Lisa 👀 lol just means I'll be even happier when #10 comes out.
Definitely add this to your tbr asap! You won't want to miss it!
This is another great book in the Brand of Justice series by Lisa Phillips. Really enjoy the growth of the character as she learns to rely on other people to help her. Keena has always depended on herself. She kept everyone at bay. Now, after giving her heart to the Lord, she finds herself building a family of people around her. Really enjoy the masterful blend of characters, action, and suspense that a Lisa Phillips story has. I recommend this series and this book.
Trying to keep a mom and her baby safe while she tracks down the bad people has its problems!
Good read today. Hanna Banbary has her hands full this time around. Trying solve B&E kids. A threat focuses on a baby to repay a debt and an attempt on Hannah's life when culprits they to kill Hanna by crashing her vehicle into the river. Almost losing her life but, Ramon she's her. She wakes up in the hospital with pain in her arms so bad she can't use them. Now the real problems begin.
I wasn't too sure about this series when I started reading the first book, but it has turned out to be an amazing series, getting better with each book. The series is different from most Christian fiction in that it has one main character for the whole series.
In this one, more of Kenna's past is revealed, and the book takes the reader on a wild ride through New Orleans. I have enjoyed every book, but this one is definitely the best and most exciting of the series so far.
...if you can't read it all in one sitting. (Unless you have more self-discipline than I do!) I'm writing this at 2:45am, because I just couldn't put this book down! Get ready for heart-pounding, edge-of-your-seat suspense, plot twists and turns, and crazy connections leading to the final outcome! Lisa Phillips always leaves me wanting more of her stories!
I have been reading this series. I am more and more disturbed by Kenna and Jax not being able to have more of a relationship. I don't know how Kenna expects to be a protector for people when she can't raise her arms. I do hope that Ramon will have his own romance someday but have him stay away from Kenna.
This series just keeps getting better and better…p
The title pretty much sums it up. Loved reading the latest chapter of Kenna’s story. However, it’s no longer just her story, is it? Phillips has created a great cast of characters in this series and I loved the latest additions. Can’t wait for “Out of Time”!
As always, the story is compelling…Kenna is such a formidable character, that you get pulled into the story before you even realize that you can’t put it down! For me, this is when I start trying to negotiate a time frame for reading, which just gets renegotiated at “times up”.
Like all of these books, one thing led to 10. It seems like her caring for others becomes infectious. I really enjoy how some people she meets become friends where others become extended family. This woman who was without family is slowly creating her family in those who need her as much as she needs them. Excited to see what happens next.
Enjoyed being back with Kenna again. She and Ramon had quite the adventure in New Orleans. I was sorry there wasn't any romance. She didn't see Jax tell the end. She had a lot of good help with this adventure also evil people to deal with. Will read more by this author
This one kept me on my toes. The darkness was threatening Kenna but she fought back. Also can't get enough of her and Jax. All the other guys in her life may try but Kenna loves Jax and that is amazing!
Kenna’s adventures are amazing, gripping and a real learning experience in grace, truth, faith & hope! Looking forward to growing with her in faith even though she’s a fictional character.
The suspense and drama propelled me through the whole book until the end. It kept! Me turning each page! I would love to read more about several of the other characters in this book.
Absolutely brilliant. Oh wow….what an amazing storyline. I could not put the book dow. Fabulous characters to love and hate and an absolutely exciting finish.. I’m loving Kenna and Jax and of course their family’s journey.
I love this series, especially the latest 3 books. The book based in Mexico was very graphic and difficult to read, but I have really enjoyed all the others.
Great Story and wonderful characters.. Love the book and the series. Full of action and plot twists. Looking forward to reading more books by this author.
Fear No Evil hit the pages running, from the very beginning, with non-stop action. Kenna, and her partner Ramon, were in New Orleans seeking an end to a case, more than they were a late-night dinner. Over the past months, Kenna had decided to be a “mother hen” to this partner who knew her from her FBI days and Quantico. Where their lives had gone different paths within the FBI, now, they had reunited as a front of good to battle the evil within their Nation. They’re fighting, so the Truth will set them Free. Throughout the book, it was obvious that through everything, Kenna’s new faith and Ramon’s lack of Faith, was going to be the big issue as they worked together. Yet, even with differences in what they believed, they made a good team as they could literally follow each other’s moods and simply being within the fringes of knowing what was going on. I simply found myself following along page by page, chapter after chapter as I read. I loved the feeling of being in-sync with these characters and watching through every single danger they faced. There were things within these pages that offered comfort, peace if you will, that added consistency to another Brand of Justice novel. I thoroughly enjoyed the fast-paced, action-packed speed of this story involving Kenna, Maizie, Jax and now, Ramon. The thrills were non-stop, bringing in a few people out of Kenna’s past to move the case forward, even adding a few loose ends. Arrests, Injuries, death, the here and now – all played out within the final scenes of this adventurous, over-the-top story which kept me glued to my seat. I couldn’t put this book down and I can’t wait for the next installment to see what will happen next!! Seriously though, I loved the energy, the thrills, the faith, as well as the possibilities of a future as this book reached its final page. I laughed, I cried, I felt panic and sheer joy throughout this book. I give Fear No Evil 5 out of 5 stars and I am anxiously awaiting the next installment of Kenna’s journey!!
