Appalachia taught Leah about the monsters who hide in the dark. The trouble was she was never afraid of the dark, and she craved the monsters.
Life taught Leah that the real monsters are human, and craving monsters is dangerous, so she chose to seek her thrills in other ways. That's how she finds herself locked in a dark basement alone... or so she thinks. When she begins hearing sounds like footsteps and the distant call of her name, she must decide whether to fight the fear or succumb to it. When she comes face to face - or mask - with her specter, she must decide whether to cower or play his game.
Leah has a fear kink. She loves being afraid, feeling adrenaline, and being *chased*. Insert The Dare that changes everything. Dared by her friends to spend and hour and a half in a dark apartment basement, automatic lights shutting off and phone dying, Leah's nerve is tested by the demons of her past...and the fact that she's not alone.
There's someone lurking in this basement with her. Someone who whispers her name. Someone who wears a mask. Is it a perfect stranger? Or one of her friends?
This book is short and sweet but packed with suspense, thrilling descriptive writing, and the hottest masked stranger I've ever read. And The Reveal? You won't see it coming. And did I mention it is HOT??? The spicy scenes will burn you up 🥵
Spice is three chilis 🌶🌶🌶, plot is fast-paced but excellent, all in all an exceptionally fun, thrilling read and I cannot WAIT to read more by this debut author ❤️❤️
Loved this little Primal story! If you are into a little fun, grab this one, check the TW as there is sensitive issues, but there is a HEA! Will definitely recommend!!
This book was on my spooky fall reads and I honestly almost didn’t finish it. I wasn’t feeling the characters and the plot was strong enough but omg I’m glad I finished it!! A little after the halfway point sucked me in and I was sad when I realized I reached the epilogue. Definitely recommend and don’t give up on it!
🚨As always, make sure to check TWs/CWs! Your mental health matters! 💜🚨
This was such a fun & steamy read! I’ll admit, I walked away from MF dark romance because it felt like every FMC was a mindless damsel in distress with no common sense or an inkling of self worth.
But that’s not a problem with Leah! She is a tough & fierce cookie. She knows exactly what she likes & wants & isn’t afraid to make it happen. And when she gets taken advantage of, she tries to get herself justice.
Enter our masked man..
Oh. My. Gawd. The way he had me sweating at 9AM on a Thursday morning was embarrassing! 🥵🪭😅 how dare you be so hot, sir!?!
This one is for the girlies of the masked men. The ones who love the chase. Who know hide & seek isn’t just a kids game 😏
This was absolutely delicious! Definitely haven't read anything with a primal kink but this had me questioning if those type of books might actually be up my alley. This book is an easy read to enjoy on your day off. I was so gripped it took me 4 hours from prologue to epilogue and I ate up every last bit of it. If you are looking for all plot no smut, keep on walking. But to my girlies who devour all smut no plot, this is for you!!!!! It was perfectly ended and sealed with a bow but still has me wishing there was more just from how amazing the book was.
Finally, a stalker(ish) romance I like. This is more about fear/primal kink, but still. I’ve never truly liked stalker or primal like this.
Well written and fun, but also a little sad and cathartic. Check trigger warning.
Also, I LOVE that the author wrote the ending as a HFN but then said there’s an epilogue for those who need an HEA. Obviously I skipped the epilogue, as I almost always do. I wish all authors did something similar. I never know if I can skip an epilogue and miss out on something major or if it’s just the HEA details, which I don’t need.
Who knew in a toxic, messy, and fun facebook group, I would be getting one of my favorite book recommendations ever! (Might I add, a wonderful friend for promoting books!!) I enjoyed every minute of reading this book! The lead up! The chase! The catch!!! It was such a thrilling and exciting read! I thoroughly enjoyed it so much!
As someone who is dipping their toes into dark romance… this was an ok place to start. Short, fast paced, with a nice ending. I appreciate that consent was openly discussed even though a masked man literally hunted her down lol.
Found this book at a local book fair and decided to support an indie author.
Leah is dared to spend a hour and a half in her building's basement while playing truth or dare. She had no idea what would be in store for her that night and how it will change her life. (In and thriller but not thriller way). Leah has some fantasies that are different from her friends. Her friend group is accepting, love her, and want to keep her safe. I thought this was very sweet and would be true to real life.
There was no stone left unturned here. From the moment you enter the Prologue you're sucked in. I finished it in a few hours (with a Walmart break in the middle 😂) So much intensity in these pages; I felt like I was genuinely feeling Leah's emotions the entire time.
AND THE REVEAL. While it's like "fuck that makes SENSE" I was still totally caught off-guard. Such a good build up. Plenty of spice to cure those cravings.
While I thoroughly enjoy a HEA, I'm satisfied with the HFN ending (no cliffhanger). And I'm craving more (this will stay on my shelf for life because it's a good, quick read).
The trigger warnings were very helpful - it let know what to expect so that I could mentally prepare myself for a few scense. As a survivor of SA, this was very much appreciated.
